Foreign AffairsUkraine Will Not Join NATO, Says Zelensky by ArewaNorth(op): 12:46am On Mar 17, 2022
Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday that his country should accept that it will not become a member of the US-led NATO military alliance, a key Russian concern it used to justify its invasion.

“Ukraine is not a member of NATO. We understand that. We have heard for years that the doors were open, but we also heard that we could not join. It’s a truth and it must be recognised,” Zelensky said during a video conference with military officials.

On the same day, US President Joe Biden will use a trip to an emergency NATO summit next week to demonstrate Washington’s “iron-clad” backing for its allies, the White House said Tuesday.

Biden will also attend an EU summit in Brussels to discuss Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and Western efforts to impose “economic costs on Russia (and) provide humanitarian support to those affected by the violence,” Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters.

At the March 24 NATO summit — also in Brussels — Biden will “reaffirm our iron-clad commitment to our NATO allies,” she said.

Psaki did not rule out Biden adding stops to his European trip, amid speculation that he could meet with some of the three million refugees who have now fled Ukraine.

She said his “real focus right now is to meet with NATO partners in Brussels. If there are additional steps, we’ll share all those details.”

Addressing a key Russian concern used to justify the invasion, Ukrainian President Zelensky said earlier Tuesday that Ukraine should accept that it would not become a member of NATO.

If Russian forces attack a NATO country, all members of the transatlantic alliance, including the United States, are obligated to come to its aid militarily.

The emergency NATO summit “will address Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, our strong support for Ukraine, and further strengthening NATO’s deterrence and defence,” NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said in a tweet.

“At this critical time, North America and Europe must continue to stand together.”

Stoltenberg also said Tuesday that NATO was worried Russia is gearing up to carry out a chemical attack in Ukraine.

“We are concerned that Moscow could stage a false flag operation possibly including chemical weapons,” the NATO chief told reporters, citing “absurd claims” from Russia that Ukraine possesses biological weapons labs.

NATO, he said, remains “very vigilant” on that risk and stressed that Russia would have “a high price to pay” if it carried out such a “violation of international law.”

A meeting on Wednesday of NATO defense ministers, Stoltenberg said, would cover “concrete measures to reinforce our security” and adapt to the changed threat arising from Russia’s “senseless war.”

“This could include substantially more forces in the eastern part of the alliance at higher readiness and with more pre-positioned equipment,” on top of the bolstered NATO forces already sent to NATO countries bordering Ukraine, he said.

On Tuesday, in the highest-level EU delegation to go to Kyiv since the war began, the leaders of Poland, the Czech Republic, and Slovenia travelled to the besieged capital in a sign of support for Ukraine.

After all, U.S has more than $26.trillion debt and the Chinese do own a lot of U.S. debt—about $1.1 trillion as of early 2020. Japan and China own about 5.2% and 4.6% of the U.S. debt, respectively. Japanese-owned debt doesn't receive nearly as much negative attention as Chinese-owned debt, ostensibly because Japan is seen as a friendlier nation and the Japanese economy hasn't been growing at a 7% clip year after year. The other countries that hold the most U.S. debt include the U.K., Brazil, and Ireland. So, forget all that debt issues and invest, when it's time to enjoy the debt, enjoy it. HISTORY OF NIGERIA'S LEADERSHIP DISTRIBUTION BASED ON ETHNO-RELIGIOUS AND REGIONAL BACKGROUND

Below is the data that calculated the years Nigerians are ruled under religious, ethnic and geographical location considerations. 60 years since independence, Nigeria was ruled by:
11years Obasanjo- Yoruba
9 years Yakubu Gowon-Angas
8 years IBB-Nupe
6 years GEJ-Ijawa
6yrs Nnamdi Azikwe-Igbo
5 years Abacha-Kanuri
7 years Buhari (+2yrs military regime)- Fulani
3 years Shagari-Fulani
2yrs Yaradua-Tuareg
6 months Agunyi-Ironsi-Igbo
2years Murtala, Shonekan & Abdussalam-Fulani, Yoruba & Hausa.
If calculated along religious line, it can be seen that Nigeria was ruled under Christians Presidents for atleast 32years while Muslims Presidents ruled for 28 years.
When calculated along geographical location, it can be seen that South ruled for almost 24yrs while North rule for almost 36yrs.
Yoruba ruled for approximately 12years, Fulani ruled for less than 11yrs, Angas ruled for 9yrs, Igbos ruled for 6yrs, Ijaw had 6yrs, Kanuri had 5yrs, Nupe had 8yrs, Tuareg had 2yrs while Hausa had 1year only.
North-Western presided Nigeria for about 17yrs, South-West presided for about 12yrs, North-Central enjoyed approximately 18yrs, South-South presided for 6yrs, South-East had 6yrs while North-East are still struggling to get to the apex position and still not agitating for it.
PoliticsEXCLUSIVE: Osinbajo Notifies Buhari Of Presidential Ambition by ArewaNorth(op): 11:36am On Mar 14, 2022
Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has finally informed President Muhammadu Buhari of his presidential ambition, Daily Trustlearnt from credible sources.

The sources said the VP told the president of his desire to take over from him at the expiration of his tenure in 2023 to consolidate the achievements they recorded since they took over from the opposition PDP in 2015.

With the intent, which had not been made public, the vice president will struggle for the ticket of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with the likes of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who had a few months ago visited the Presidential Villa where he told Buhari of his intention to succeed him.

There are reports that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele and the Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi would also vie for the presidency even as the Minister of Labour, Chris Ngige had said he would soon join the race.

Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzo Kalu, and Senator Rochas Okorocha have all declared their interest in the presidency on the platform of the APC amid speculations that some aspirants from the North would soon join the race.

“Certainly, VP Osinbajo has told the president that he wants to succeed him,” one of our sources said.

“The vice president had first consulted some prominent Nigerians who encouraged him to vie for the presidency and they also encouraged him to tell the president himself.

“They told him not to allow a third party to tell the president so that the ambition will not be misconstrued,” he said.

Another source said when Osinbajo approached the president with the story, Buhari was not surprised.

“Buhari smiled in his usual characteristic manner…he listened to the VP carefully and while responding, he gave him the green light and wished him well without giving him any commitment or assurance of supporting him ahead of other contenders.

“He blessed the intention just the way he blessed Tinubu when he visited him in the Villa and unveiled his plan to vie for the presidency.

“And I think the president is being careful. Remember what he said while granting an interview to a national television.”

Though Osinbajo, a lawyer, politician and pastor, is yet to declare his intention to run for the office of president in 2023, many support groups and individuals have sprung up rooting for him.

The groups have been going round the country and sponsoring adverts in print and broadcast media urging the vice president to contest.

Another source said recent happenings indicated that Osinbajo will “Definitely slug it out with Tinubu and others for the APC ticket.”

He said, “The projection in certain quarters that the VP will not contest against Tinubu is now over. The two of them who are from the South West would confront each other. They both have their support bases but Tinubu, of course, is more of a politician than Osinbajo. He has more support base across the country but that notwithstanding, the truth is that whoever the president supports would surely have an upper hand,” he said.

Why VP shelved today’s meeting with APC state chairmen

The vice president on Sunday postponed his planned meeting with all the state chairmen of the ruling APC who had converged on Abuja.

The meeting would have been the major contact of the VP with party chieftains from across the 36 states of the federation and the FCT.

Sources said the meeting was planned ahead of Osinbajo’s formal declaration for the presidency, which would have put paid to all speculations around his presidential ambition.

Multiple sources said the meeting planned to hold today (Monday) at night was shelved because of a directive from the villa.

It was learnt that accommodation had been reserved for the state APC chairmen while some of them had already arrived Abuja ahead of the meeting before it was abruptly shelved.

APC sources in Lagos, Kano, Enugu, Kaduna, Osun, Cross River, Adamawa, Bauchi, among others, said they were aware of the meeting with Osinbajo and had mobilised for it.

A member of the APC in Kaduna who is familiar with the development said the meeting was shelved after rumours began to fly that the vice president was planning to use the chairmen to promote his political ambition.

The APC Chairman in Cross River State, Barrister Alphonsus Ogar Eba confirmed that he was invited to Abuja to attend the meeting.

He said he was in Maiduguri, capital of Borno State attending a colleague’s social event when he received the invite.

“As I speak with you, I am inside an aircraft to Abuja to attend a meeting with the presidency.  I am told the meeting is called off or put on hold but I am inside an aircraft.”

The Bauchi State Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Babayo Ali Misau, through the Publicity Secretary of the party, Adamu Aliyu Jallah also confirmed that he was invited for the meeting with Osinbajo.

A credible source within the APC in Adamawa State told our reporter that the state Chairman of the party, Ibrahim Bilal was in Abuja to attend the meeting.

A party source in Kano told our correspondent that their Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, was also in Abuja.

We don’t know why meeting was postponed – Chairmen

The APC chairmen in Lagos and Enugu who confirmed that they were invited for the meeting with the VP said they don’t know why it was postponed or when it will eventually hold.

Lagos Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi, who said Osinbajo as their principal had the right to meet with them, added that it was unhealthy to speculate the purpose of the invitation. He noted that the outcome of such a meeting would be communicated, whenever it was held.

When asked if the meeting was convened by the VP to declare his intention to seek the presidential ticket of the APC, Ojelabi said Prof Osinbajo had the right to aspire for any position.

“He has the right to contest but the members of APC will decide who they are going to field as their candidate,” he said.

He said Lagos APC was supporting the aspiration of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu because the former governor of Lagos state was the only aspirant from the South West who had declared his intent to run for the office of the president in 2023.

His counterpart in Enugu, Ugochukwu Agballah, who said he was on his way to Abuja when he heard of the postponement, added that he can’t pre-empt the purpose of the gathering.

“I am not an aide of the VP, I don’t know if he is going to use the meeting to announce his intention. He might have also called the meeting to resolve the issues in the party, so it is not good to pre-empt or speculate,” he said.

Real reason meeting was postponed

Sources in the APC and the Villa said the Osinbajo’s meeting with the state chairmen was halted at the last minute at the instance of President Buhari.

One of them said, “You know that Buhari is in London and he had hosted many interest groups from the government and the party.

“Of course, there was clearance for the meeting but after the president was briefed on the uncertainty around the party and pressure on the polity, he was advised to give directive for the meeting not to hold.”

But another source said the scheduled meeting was not on Osinbajo’s ambition.

He said, “The vice president was directed to meet with the chairmen because of the crisis bedeviling the ruling party. They supposed to discuss some contentious issues ahead of the NEC meeting coming up on Thursday preparatory to the national convention on March 26.”

However, a reliable source at the APC headquarters said the postponed meeting was fixed for 8:30pm and it was meant for the VP to get the support of the state chairmen ahead of his declaration for the presidential race.

“The Vice president knows that they are key delegates at the convention. He (Osinbajo) will declare for the presidential race. As long as President Muhammadu Buhari is alive, he will get the APC presidential ticket,” he said.

Contacted to comment on whether the VP had gotten a green light from President Buhari to declare for the presidency, Osinbajo’s spokesman, Laolu Akande said, “Like I said last week, any information regarding the activities of the vice president will be communicated officially.”

When asked to confirm if the vice president planned to meet with state party chairmen, he said: “I don’t know about it. But I will find out.”

VP in a fix over Tinubu, RCCG

Daily Trust reports that apart from pressure in some quarters within the APC, the VP was also in a dilemma because of his relationship with Tinubu.

A chieftain of the party, Senator Abu Ibrahim had told the Daily Trust that Osinbajo would find it difficult to contest against Tinubu.

He said that Asiwaju and Osinbajo had come a long way. “Osinbajo was Tinubu’s commissioner in Lagos State. It was Tinubu who picked him for the vice presidency and so, he will not be in contest with him,” he said.

Some sources said the creation of the directorate for politics and governance recently by the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), where Osinbajo is a senior pastor, had raised an eyebrow in many quarters.

They described the development as a move to use the church’s large followership across Nigeria and beyond to actualize the VP’s presidential bid.

But the church had said that the new directorate was expected to help mobilise support for members of the church who were into politics.

Politics2023: Osinbajo, Fayemi Can’t Stand Against Tinubu – Sen Abu Ibrahim by ArewaNorth(op): 9:42am On Mar 13, 2022
No aspirant from the South can stand against the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, on the contest for the presidency ahead of 2023, a chieftain of the ruling party, Senator Abu Ibrahim, has said.

Senator Ibrahim, who is a close confidant of both President Muhammadu Buhari and the Asiwaju, told Daily Trust on Sunday in an exclusive interview that all those being taunted for the presidency in the South-West were protégés of the former Lagos governor and would not compete against him.

Narrating how he linked Buhari with Tinubu in 2010, the Katsina-born politician, who had been in the Senate for many years before he quit, said the alleged plan by some northern governors to retain power in the North would not scale through.

Asked if the reported presidential ambitions of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State would not affect the chances of Tinubu, Ibrahim said, “It is normal, but the issue is: Can they stand Tinubu in the South-West? They can see what is coming up. I don’t want to start discussing this issue; it is a different topic.

“Fayemi, for example, knows very well that he is Tinubu’s boy. He was living in Ghana when Tinubu brought him. I once slept in his house in Accra.

“Tinubu brought Fayemi back to Nigeria. Above other leading contenders, he picked him to be the governor of Ekiti State. When we met at Bourdillon (Tinubu’s residence), he told me to thank my friend for him. He said Asiwaju even mobilised fund for him after nominating him to be governor.

“He won the election, but in the second tenure, he failed to even win his ward, and he was made a minister. When he wanted to go for this present tenure, I went to the president and I said Fayemi may not be able to win without Tinubu, so he called Asiwaju and gave him the responsibility to deliver Ekiti for him.”

And on Osinbajo, he said, “The vice president was his commissioner for justice. He never lobbied for the office; he just picked and gave him that position. I have discussed with the vice president many times. I went to his house and office and we discussed the party and everything, including his relationship with Asiwaju. I know how he felt or how he feels about their relationship. He respects Tinubu so much that I feel he may not be able to contest against him.”

Senator Ibrahim also said the leadership of the APC was not using internal mechanisms to make the party stronger, hence the ravaging crises threatening its existence.

Asked whether the president would support Tinubu to actualise his dream of becoming president, Ibrahim, who said President Buhari was his house captain at secondary school in Katsina State, said he had no doubt on that because the former Lagos governor was instrumental to the emergence of Buhari in 2015 when he brought South-West votes to add to Buhari’s 12million in the North that culminated in victory after many trials.

“If we don’t support Tinubu, North-West politicians will suffer in the future as nobody will trust us again. So we have to make sure that this understanding is for our future politics,” he said.

Two of you are very wrong.

Nigeria is a multi ethnic country where each ethnic nation has it's own indigenous foods and delicacies... Which means each ethnic nation have their own set of farmers which is also why when the north did a food blockade it only affected northerners..

You guys are talking as if Southern Nigerians don't farm and as if Southern farmers are not been killed by northerners who want to take over the supply and sale of food in the south.
I live in the south and the kind of farming in the whole South can't even be compared with 3 Northern States (Adamawa, Kano and Jigawa), everywhere u go in the North is either farm, grazing land or residential areas with farms preoccupying most size of lands close to towns and villages. I want u to know that subsistence agriculture can't feed millions of people 3 square meals a day. Think of the huge population of abt 250m people and the farming level that can sustain them.
When I go to markets in the south all I can see are tomatoes, onions and spices supplied from the North, almost all the rice u call foreign rice are from mostly Jigawa and Kano rice mills I very well know. The roads that link North to South are full of trailers transporting foods and meat, the number of trailers is pretty much on the roads all transporting foods that are often sold at relatively higher price for profits gain in the South by business men from both regions.
If u really know how Northerners crazily farm u would know that yes, those people are really into farming because the consumption rate is very huge, honestly!

Rotimi is an accidental politician, he doesn't understand the game nor know how to sell his candidate at all.
Rotimi will likely be a disaster to Tinubu's ambition.

Under Apc government

A Yoruba deeper woman was slaughtered in Abuja while preaching

A Yoruba woman was killed in Kano mArket because of her religion

Southern kaduna tribes and Benue Christians are daily being slaughter by Muslim bandit and Muslim herdsmen

Same Apc government Muslim did wipe out a Christian tribe in Benue

A bishop head was machetes by boko haram in a live videos

Apc is evil

Hope the igbo man survive

Anyhuman saying they’re intolerant in the east should go to zamfara or Kano and build a big church in Kano central or rano..

Nigerian and religion sentiments

Trust Yoruba people to come and add fire ..

Ndi igbo haterz that same Muslims have been slaughtering their people grin
Nonsense, ignorant. You know nothing but religious fanaticism. Tell me the last time when Igbo man is attacked in the North because of his tribe. It has been more than decade now there is no more any tribal conflict in the North (since 2011).
There are more churches in KANO than jumaat mosques in the state combined. Go and buy sense. Nobody will trust u forever!

ONLY who doesn't know those people will think otherwise.

They're the most intolerant ethnic ever.

If they can mock their son who died in car crash all because he's a Muslim, how much more this? They'll definitely mock him.

This is why they shouldn't be entrusted with power
Totally agree with u.
They're very sick people with no aorta of civilisation. Extremely fanatic, intolerant with zero conscience.
Their fb comments is a reflection of them.
They can never be trusted with power, never with such uncivilized attitudes!
PoliticsRe: 2023: It's Better North Retains Power Instead Of South West - Deji Adeyanju by ArewaNorth: 11:49am On Mar 11, 2022

@ArewaNorth
Thank YOU for the positive thoughts.smiley

I have very little patience for ethnic bigots and people who tell lies or speak out of deep ignorance about the North. There are highly
educated people from the Old
North as well.

We must always learn to say the truth. Thank goodness I had my high school at an FGC in the North in the 1980s and this is the one of the reasons why I'm familiar with Northern Nigerian history even though I was based in Lagos State and schooled in the North.

All the best!
ignorance is a disease. Most of these bigots have never set their foot outside their villages!

I always wonder how can these kind of animals win election by always stereotyping group of people and always giving them bad names alleging nonexisting agenda.
Nonsense people, for the past 23yrs since our return to democracy South ruled for 16yrs but with only 7yrs of Buhari they're all over social and mainstream media blackmailing, intimidating and accusing Fulani for their self inflicted Mayhem.
Masari, Ganduje, Zulum, Sani Bello, El Rufai, or I can say all Northern Govwrnors endorsed Southern ticket under APC but lack of confidence, cowardice and disorganisation is still making u people spitting all sort of rubbish and blame games!
