Elythron16zero4: i guess you are blind.did you read the post that attracted my post. what do you mean by pure jealousy. why will i jealous doctors when some okey and bros Nig ltd at Alaba earn millions daily. jealous doctors my foot. with whom i am if i want to study that your medicine i can because i have what it takes to do that. One of my convictions that there is no big deal in studying medicine was that one of my friend who finished with a 3rd class in the biological sciences went back to study medicine and today he is a doctor. so why can't i especially that he and i knows i am academically better than him. i do also know that if not for the restrictions in admission into the medical school, the preponderance of doctors would be better imagined than we see today. If all and sundry becomes doctors then we will become vet doctors because we can treat ourselves and nobody will be the patient. I don't jealous any doctor, but my ordeal with them is that many of them are filled with ego as if no one can attain their heights/fit in life and the arrogant manner in which some of them attend to patients in government hospitals which completely negates how they attend to people in their private hospitals. sometimes,i wonder if they are the same people you see at government facilities. I will be glad if someone can explain the reason(s) for this abysmal variation in character by the same doctors you see in private and govt hospitals. somebody once said they can't do otherwise in private because the owner of the business is there and won't condone any nonsense from any of them but because govt job is no mans job, anybody does as he/she pleases without any sanctions. may be the fellow is right;let the doctors defend themselves. shikina
The tone of this post is different from the message.

That you friend are you sure he knows you are smarter than him.

MrsAwesome: Armadeo, a question was asked and an answer needed, that is what nairaland is here for. No sentiments attached, you answer what you know and move on.
There is a reason for every question I am very sure the purpose if this question is to complain on how much they earn. Anyway what is my own.

As for johnfavour calling me medical student. If I am a medical student so what? Does it mean I shouldn't have an opinion.

I simply disagreed with an opinion and you call me proud and a student.

Na wa for you sha!!

Once negotiations take place you can't expect 100%. However if some point have been met fine. So its the fgs move now.

You know we cannot really say what Tue delegates have heard or seen before they came to thus decision. However I feel if all demands were not met reasonably and the strike us called off then there was no point in the first place.

It is well. Let's see if residency has been reinstated.

Also hope nma won't call another strike in the next 10 years or even forever.

MrsAwesome: Why are you hiding the fact that HOs earn that much and have already resorted to calling names as usual?
The info is right.........between 170,000 and 200,000.
This is full registrar salary in my center. Anyway what's the whole argument about. Why bother with what someone earns? If you like the salary then get trained for the job.

I wonder what does a driver earn, a lga chairman, a tout, an oil engineer. These people have their salary structure so what's with the h.o and his salary.

For those of you who wonder its called demand and supply.
Health › Re: Residency Programme For Other Health Workers by armadeo(m): 9:54pm On Aug 23, 2014
MrsAwesome: Yes, after graduating with either RN or BNSC or both,..

Post basic clinical nursing specialties are midwifery, cardiothoracic, intensive care or critical care, ear nose and throat, ophthalmic, burns and plastic, orthopaedic, anaesthesia, perioperative, public health, psychiatry, peadiatrics to mentioned but a few.
OK I think I get the post basic. So for example if you want to do cardio you apply to the school, if admitted you go for lectures and at the same time work as a nurse in the cardio dept.

Your work in cardio for example is it sanctioned fully by the hospital I.e is a post basic nurse left alone to run a shift? Or handle the theater or run a clinic alone at the end of say 1 yr?
Health › Re: Residency Programme For Other Health Workers by armadeo(m): 9:31pm On Aug 23, 2014
MrsAwesome: Yea , I paid my school fees and write exams in between the training then thereafter a final qualifying exam at the end of the program. Most of the post basic schools are attached to a teaching hospital, so It won't be a bad idea if these post basic nursing students are placed on a salary till graduation.
Again I ask please excuse me, at what point is it neccesary to attend post basic training.

I know of run + mid and bnsc. What's post basic about? Is it what makes nurses specialty in theater, wars, cardio, ear, anaesthesia etc.

I dey talk plenty meanwhile strike has been called off. OK over to fed govt as we can't resume until the recall.

Health › Re: NMA suspends strike.....Live Update Of NMA Emergency Delegate Meeting At Abuja. by armadeo(m): 8:09pm On Aug 23, 2014
From my sources the strike apparently will be called off. Let me state this here if this strike is called off without Tue drs Getting what they want and govt back tracks OYO.

We started this issue with 24 demands now we are talking recall of suspended drs. Didn't they know that suspension and outright sack was possible before embarking on this issue.

Let us go back to our demands not recall cos if this strike is called of on recall then we have lost and please no further strike.
Health › Re: Residency Programme For Other Health Workers by armadeo(m): 7:55pm On Aug 23, 2014
MrsAwesome: There is a thin line between work and train when you are in post basic school. As part of the training sometimes we are required to take charge of the ward.
My course requires constant presence in the ward and theatre, it is intensive. I was not employed by the government but our basic RN was used, duty rosters are always created for student nurses whether post basic or not for the period of clinical posting experience .
It is a lot of trouble though without a penny in your pocket.
Please excuse my ignorance on this issue.

A nurse who goes for post basic training is or can be an RN + midwifery + BNSc.

This training is strictly on an academic note with clinical exposure where due to experience the nurses are used as full staff.

Now some nurses carry out this program with study leave due to its nature while others may follow up directly without pay.

We also have residents who aren't paid by the govt who are self sponsored or on study leave.

I think you case was one of supranumerary on a personal sponsorship. I have one question did you pay school fees and write exams in school or were you required to be in a hospital and after some training sit for exams.
Health › Re: Residency Programme For Other Health Workers by armadeo(m): 6:39pm On Aug 23, 2014
MrsAwesome: When I was training for my post basic certificate, I wasn't financially okay because I was not paid. Since I already have RN ,RM and BNSC I was expected to work when posted to the ward likewise others without restrictions for 2 years of the training. It is frustrating I tell you.
Let me get this straight while training as post basic were u employed by the govt or you were in post basic nursing school.

The duration 2yrs.

Were you taking shifts with those in the ward or were u just used by your superiors because if your previous exposure and training.

What I am asking is as a post basic candidate are you required to work or be trained?
Health › Re: FG To Privatise 6 Public Hospitals by armadeo(m): 6:24pm On Aug 23, 2014
^^^

The term privatisation is what I am talking about. I named those two areas because they are the areas private individuals will like to invest because there us instant reward on investments.

Lest I forget the radiological department too.

Drs will be affected too if the entire system is privatized, but iI feel its going to be sectoral that's why I listed those areas.

MrsAwesome: Are you asking about the perks? Please be real, come on.

Financial stability till you finish your programme will enhance the zeal that will be put in to learn and work while training knowing that you are appreciated by your government and not being used......as if others came for moonlight games.
No be only dokita waka come a beg.

US has taken precedent for nursing residency....

Emory, Vanderbilt, Penn's state, NYU to mentioned but a few for graduate nurses, there is also residency for nurse practitioners too.
My point about Nigerian residency is rhetorical and sarcastic.
I missed the sarcasm angry angry

What does financial stability means aren't you already financially stable. Aren't you being paid salary as if now.
Please explain.

Again what does feel like you are being used mean. I am sorry I don't understand.

Every staff has an appointment letter where the duties required are listed why do you feel used in accordance with your appointment duties.

dokilolo: updates pls
lets know aw its going.
my opinion is....lets show some faith in d FG nd call off d strike stating that the decision is based on d expectation that d FG will suspend residency and stay true 2 d conditions stated by david mark.failure to that within 1 week of strike suspension will in nma going bak on strike and dis time it is all or none.
I believe that if this strike is called off then no more strikes. We better get what we want now and forget strike forever than suspend only to go back again.

Also let it not be suspension of the residency program that make us call it off, let's get our act together once and for all.
My opinion.

Labs and pharmacy get ready.
Health › Re: Residency Programme For Other Health Workers by armadeo(m): 4:33pm On Aug 23, 2014
MrsAwesome: Nurses have post basic schools were the aforementioned specialties are studied, it would be worthwhile since they are also being trained in the teaching hospital to receive the perks associated with residency too.
If Nigeria is going to set precedent in residency training of other essential health professionals, then so be it. It is time to set the pace if it is going to solve Nigerian health sector problems.
@Mastify, we all hit the labour market after graduation and whomever is lucky get employed first but the perks of studying and getting paid handsomely should be extended to all and sundry.
So you agree that nurses are already trained post basic. Good. Though they aren't residents.

I thought international best practices have already started residency training fir health workers but according to you this isn't so.

What perks do residents enjoy if I may ask
Nigeria
Health › Re: Residency Programme For Other Health Workers by armadeo(m): 1:15pm On Aug 23, 2014
Residency.

Nurses already have subspecialty as midwifes, theater, surgical, went, eye, etc.

Lab science. I don't get what a resident in lab science would do.

Radiographers now here's a laugh. Let me guess residency in MRI angiography.

Please Oga op answer the guy above me.
