Cityguy: Nooo, we need you to come and perform surgeries with lantern, attend to patients whatever the risk with torchlights, treat ebola patients without protection, cram all that is written in British National Formulary cos when you check doses and drug interactions using internet, it shows us you don't know anything. We want you to bear all insults and aggressions from other health workers with smiles because it's what you swore to do and you have to so we'll continue to see you as noble. It does not matter whether your prescriptions are altered without clarification or you are prevented from checking status of your operation sites after surgeries because, unlike in the past when you bullied all your 'team' members, a miracle of sort has happened and they have evolved 'erikally'. It is 'international best practices'. Pls, don't mention relativity in pay. It is greed to insist it has to be observed when other workers' emoluments are raised such that they are at par with yours. Beisides, whoever knows the 'way' is smartest? It's an area your association would need lessons for from JOHESU. Strike Don't even think it however unhappy at shabby treatment you may be! That would be suicidal as it could draw the ire of our emperor with attendant 'immediate sack'. Why should you be treated differently? We don't want to know what forms the basis of international social classification cos to us, you are not more important than a cobbler. Please, we are begging you, we've sent our honorable minister to you in different fora and we are would love to welcome you back 'home' to your root. That much you 'owe' us cos we 'subsidsed' your undergraduate training. We sacked these ones here because they don't see it as a 'calling' but money making venture. That am sure would be a mentality alien to your likes honed abroad. Who says Nigeria cannot set the pace for the rest of the world? I thought I could be sarcastic but I have to hand it to you. |

Guykhena: The way it was directed,CGI,Casts, everything was wrong,,, the spin-off Elektra as well was worse,, even the actors said the movie was bad, Ben Arfleck said because of the embarrassment of 'Daredevil' he assured himself he won't play any super hero in costume again(but I guess he has changed his mind, cus he's playing Batman come 2016 ) And Jennifer Garner said and I quote "Elektra was terrible" ,that she only did the movie bcus of the contract of Daredevil.
The good thing about both movies,is that's where Ben Arfleck and Jennifer Garner met and later got married... Any links for new movies. Clear ones |

Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Mistakes Dat I've Made In Job Interviews That You Should Avoid At All Costs by armadeo(m): 4:15pm On Aug 19, 2014 |
Oxone: Here's a thread worth bookmarking
Mine was a couple of months after service and that was my second interview. I was so jittery because i was desperate for the job.
The interview panel was made up of a number of my peers and there was a pretty lady in the group. Everything was going well until i was asked how much i would want as my take home pay. i gave the usual "pay me the standard rate" reply. I didn't want to commit to a particular figure because i didn't want to short change myself by mentioning a low figure as there seem more to the company than meet the eye.
The lady now asked if i would accept 15k as salary and i pointed out to her that a 15k salary was a joke in Abj in 2011 and wouldn't even meet my basic needs. she then told me that there are ladies who take home pay was 15k in Abj.
*At this point i should have politely stuck to my gun & kept my mouth shut but the next few minutes was like an out of body experience for me. my brain shut down and my mouth took over, i watched myself from afar blow my chances of getting a job with that firm with the things i said.*
I Agreed with her that some ladies taking home 15k a month but pointed out to her that ladies don't always spend their money & have other ways of getting money. The group became animated and wanted to know how. That's when i finished the job with a list that includes money from admirers, dates and all. I cringed with each word but couldn't stop myself. The look on their faces especially that of the lady's when i was done told me all i needed to know. I knew i wasn't going to be called back ever. There are just somethings you don't say. I guess that daily 5 mins of madness chose that moment to manifest in the worst possible way.
Till date, i still can't explain what happened or what took over me because I'm not usually a chauvinistic Prick. it was all so surreal I feel you. My fav part ' you cringed at every word but couldn't stop yourself'. Lol. It is well bro. |

Amhappy: Hmmm if what Mcstoic said is true about residency training. Do the govt pay resident drs salary while still paying their sch fees? In addition why is the health sector not generating fund in this country with the quality of Drs we have in Nigeria? Can govt hospitals fund their equipment,if yes why is this not happening?I noticed that some Drs are now into India visa for medical treatment. Why cant we get anything right in this country? What mcstoic said isn't true. |

provenus: I'm a barrister, and I do pro-bono work all the time. Free consultation ain't no crime. That said, In my humble opinion, I think it's foolishness for the 'doctors ' to keep commenting and responding to insults from half- illiterates (aren't we all? )! Maintain your elevated stance as king of the jungle (health sector)! If government in all her wisdom or foolishness decides to terminate residency program, retreat and wait till they come begging. Bantering words on the pages of nairaland will avail nought! The battle for the soul of Nigeria will not be fought in this generation. Shebi we are doing 'siddon look'!!! Spoken like a lawyer Best advice I think. This issue will not be solved on naira land. Just sit back and enjoy the comments. |

phantom: you dey mind the jester. pharmacists and chemists make more impact than doctors and it doesnt give him cause for concern.
nigerians run tests at will in the labs and ask the chemists to "MIX" drugs for them. effectively they have become their own doctors...
its exactly what happened to a man who we saw in the teaching hospital, acutely ill. i scanned and discovered his kidneys were gone. totally fibrotic. of course we dug deeper only to find out that he recieved a certain IV drug from a nurse(in a bid to avoid the doctor) in his neirgbourhood for 5-6days. when he presented to us,he was almost dead. when we told the wife that the IV drug most likely packed up his kidneys, she threw herself on the floor wailing. but it was already too late.
i know of women who have ruptured their wombs because quacks had allowed them labour endlessly where v.aginal delivery was impossible. of course these women go through this with support from their pastors who declare the doctors "mere mortals" and encourage these women to deliver like the "hebrew women".
we see these everyday.people who have become too smart even for themselves and end up in trouble. this scenerio plays out in front of us daily. majority of nigerians are illiterate and poor and are "destined" to toe the dangerous paths i outlined above. they have embraced every single person out there except the only person who truly can help them....the doctor! I remember as a h/o, prior to this time I never thought a woman could rupture her uterus, come and see matter. They call it rubbing back then. Like 3 weekly ruptured uterus. I also remember this boy about 11 who had an open fracture and went to a home setter who promptly shoved the bone back in his leg and tied it. By the time they landed in the hospital gangrene had finished the leg above the knee. Ortho peeps here know what was done. |
