The Russian Ukraine conflict puts UK on a long rope. Which ever way they take is difficult for them. They need gas like mad. If they decide to back Biafra totally, Nigeria could stop playing neutral and join the BRICS to further isolate them(UK). Moreover, one of the contentions in Ukraine is separatism. Nigeria can make argument against such 'double standard'. And they could end up loosing Nigeria, their milk cow to Russia.

Again, will the UK decides to make u-turn against IPOB and declare it a terrorist organization in order to make way for seamless gas supply, the fears of walking alone in that path will deter them. US doesn't have energy problem and will likely not be dragged along that path. Israel's fear against west is manifesting increasingly and this could be seen from their neutrality on Ukraine crisis. US is cozying up to Israel's arch enemy Iran for oil while making nuclear agreement with them. This will not only empower Iran but other anti Israel proxies like Hezbollah, Hama's etc and Increase the morale of anti Israel Islamic extremist element in Northern Nigeria. Therefore Israel position in Biafra will not change. It will rather become tougher and UK knows this. That is why they are being very careful. You will notice UK started acting like they support Biafra after Israel sheltered Kanu. They also played neutral at the beginning of the civil war until the Russians started supporting Nigeria. Their policy on Biafra vs Nigeria has been more of who has more support among the leading nations. Also if UK goes totally against Biafra in this current situation, Russians who are already in Mali will feel threatened as the dominant gas suppliers and play some spoilers. Remember, any additional backing to Biafra could make a lot of difference bearing Nigeria's numerous challenges in mind. So their low key support for Biafra is best for them.

UK did not designate IPOB as terrorist Organization. There is a separate process for that. All they did was to release a detailed guideline for asylum on IPOB which seems to recognise some of Nigeria's narrative and concerns but really made no fundamental changes.

You are also wrong to say that Igbo subgroups didn't identify as Igbo's.The correct statement per haps should have been that Igbo identity was subsumed by subgroup consciousness. This is why within these subgroups you have town and communities with Igbo suffix like Igbanke (Igbo akiri) Ibuzor (Igbo uzo) Akwukwu Igbo, Umu Igbo in Igweocha. You also have them in surnames.

Not very accurate. Lagos was a seperate colony from the colony of the north and southern Nigeria, it was a separate protectorate. During the regional system it was the capital of Nigeria. Now it's a separate state. My point is that it has never been part of a self governing political entity of the yorubas.
