Egwusi, okwuru and Ogbono are all Igbo soups that have gone global. Some even call it a "national delicacy" (whatever that means) Even the names are self evident |
Hope that doesn't collapse it ![]() |
If you post or open a thread about nollywood afonja boys are the first people that will tell you they don't watch nollywood because it's crap, they only watch foreign movies. How then are they blaming nollywood for their skull mining epidemic? How can what you don't watch influence you? Hypocrites! |
cosmatika:He is not Igede, he is an impostor. |
Oil was not first discovered in oloibiri in present Bayelsa, it was first discovered in a town called Iho, dimeze in present Ikeduru LGA of IMO in 1937. Almost 20yrs before Oloibiri. |
TalkTalkTwins:are you OK? Love is unconditional but marriage is not. You are to love your mother, a lady of opposite genotype, your sister and even your enemy, but can you marry them? |
verybadmouth:inferiority complex brought Anambra into your post. |
In the new masquerade he always visits when the food is done and sometimes comes with spoon. Sad. Rip. |
I laugh at those who say we are different in social media. Social media is only the clearest reflection of our feelings towards each other. Anonymous forums like nairaland only allow us to express feelings that we can't easily express in the real world. The feeling of hate is real and that is all that matters. He doesn't even know that if the overwhelming majority of the congregation rejects him on account of not being fluent in Igbo, the Church will have no choice than to remove him, but there he was being the "aggressor" |
Do they answer distress calls in such manner against herdsmen? |
Righteousness2:You are very wrong. Marriage is more cultural than anything else. Marriage is a union and common sense should tell you that for a union to become strong, elements such as culture, language and religion must agree or be same. Can a Christian submit to a non Christian? Marriage is 50% successful if someone marries from his ethnic/religious group and possibly, hometown! |
Sometimes I wonder whether there is a set standard for journalism practice in Nigeria. Dailytrust is such a terrible media organization. |
headSmasher:you can deceive yourself for all we care but that can't halt the rate on degeneration we are seeing in SW. BTW, Okija shrine saga wasn't a money ritual incident. Be properly guided. |
jesusjnr2020:most times they know the so called converts will quit later. They need the your picture with them to propagate their message. |
An unidentifiable people surrounded by people on Yoruba and Hausa attire in an unidentifiable place sourced from a propaganda Facebook group. I see you lots so much value Igbos. |
At least nobody will call it a case of nollywood actress "seeking attention" |
BuddhaPalm:that's because you were in primary school then. |
When you become a billionaire, come back to your post and see what's wrong. |
Tranquill:All the places you mentioned are Igboland except Ikom |
Hm |
khalleb:Channels, Arise and AIT |
Tinubu's agents fooling around. TVC is not among the three best broadcasters in Nigeria. When you talk of the best mention Channels and Arise that are owned by career journalists not a local biased tvc. Even AIT owned by a politician is better. |
See how Yoruba's are defending Lagos like they're all from there because they know Lagos is the only city in yorubaland and it's a shame if it compares to Onitsha. |
Every lawyer is saying the same thing |
Nairaland using IPOB to trend |
alhassanyusuf29:Answer my question |
AwkaFinest:PH is big no doubt but the simple question is, what good thing is PH known for? AwkaFinest:seems you didn't see where I wrote 'based'. Nevertheless, even Duncan mighty didn't start in Portharcourt. I already wrote Chinwo and Rex Lawson was pre 1970. PH is big and it's people like luxury. It should easily be the home of big names in music and a fertile ground for talented upcoming ones who are instead headed to lagos. What is happening? AwkaFinest:Neither epic nor urban movies are done in PH. If Asaba, Enugu and Lagos are villages, why not Urban movies? The truth is that far away Abuja by far more has movies shot there than PH located in the East, a nollywood hub. That should be strange to you. AwkaFinest:You are the one to calm down. Nobody is doubting its size.. But it appears the city is big for nothing. |
Kosoco:pls name such popular movie |
Kosoco:kindly state where I lied |
Portharcourt used to have stars like Harcourt white, Rex Lawson etc but since 1970 the city slided into "dark ages" The only thing putting it presently on the world map is soots |
Mods please stop hiding my post. I did not break any rule ; I only asked a question. |
It used to be called Igweocha meaning "white hill or pure hill". In the Eastern region it was called " Garden city" . A city that was to combine beauty and industry. The Eastern region created Industrial layouts and agric settlement throughout the region like Trans Amadi in PH. The major cities of the eastern region like Enugu, Portharcourt, Onitsha , Aba and Calabar were among the most planned in the country. After the civil war the FG took over the city under the guise of rivers state capital. To make the idea of Rivers state plausible, the utopia of an easy life for the natives in an "oil city" was promoted in order to lure the Igbo natives of Portharcourt and ahoada divisions into a supposedly non Igbo rivers state. Hardwork and industry were systematically discouraged while luxury and sense of entitlement were inadvertently promoted. The once beautiful garden city turned into a model of everything evil. Cultism, militancy, waterfront ethnic clashes, dualistic economy, pollution and sluming. Today, Portharcourt is known for everything bad an oil city gets but lacks everything good. It can neither compare favourable with Lagos and Abuja nor it's fellow Igbo cities. Onitsha and Aba are creative and market hubs, PH is not. Nnewi is a technology hub, PH is not. Enugu and Asaba (of yesterday) are music and nollywood hubs respectively but PH is not. Have you seen nollywood movie shot in PH? Beside Duncan mighty and mercy Chinwo who are natives, is there any major porthacourt based music star since 1970? Owerri and Awka are turning into Hospitality and educational tourism centers but PH is not. Even Abakaliki of yesterday is racing to join the league. The good things in portharcourt such as its planning, industrial layout, Uniport etc are those inherited from the eastern region, while the the bad things such as economic inequality, laziness, ethnic strife, lack of creativity, culture of violence and pugnacity, sense of entitlement and above all, environmental pollution(soots) are all a fallout of the city's detachment from it's Igbo soul and identity. For those who do not know, an average resident of PH suffers the same risk a smoker does and other respiratory health risk because of the soots. A relation of mine who run a big eye clinic in the city is moving to owerri and a lot of people are considering that. Do not be fooled to think only illegal refinery that causes it. If Such happens in the north, environmental audit would have taken place and approximate action taken. For those who think I am jealous, I am from one of the SE states that has gas in abundance. Here comes the big question, what has the city of Portharcourt gained since it's detachment from it's Igbo motherland? |
