The rate at which governor Ikpeazu is trying to please the already embittered abia people has not gone unnoticed.

Abia state, though blessed with huge natural resources and some of the best brains and hands in the country, has been in a political mess for a long while now, and the mess has driven many Abians into Apathy. This political mess affected the economy and appeal of the state. It also made Abia's detractors more vocal than ever.

Although Abia's poverty index stands proudly at 21%, and has a high literacy rate, Abians are still not smiling. it appears these, alongside Alex Otti's legal tussle with ikpeazu, has made the present government stand on their toes, especially on the urban renewal of Aba, a major commercial centre in Nigeria.

Thank God for the criticisms, it is making the present government sit up.

Nairalanders, do you think the Abia Goverment will get it right this time following the criticism spanking them?

NB: Pls let's be constructive in criticizing the state. thank you.
do you live in abia?

I am sorry but only a one-party region can make this dream come true.

For instance, APGA can drive the initiative across five states. Today, we have PDP, APGA & APC dominating.....with different priorities.

I.M.O only APC can truly and genuinely transform the economic landscape of the region. Otherwise, till then cool
yeah like rochas is transforming Imo state

To be honest someone that spent most of their formative years in Nigeria only really know the way it has always been done which quite frankly is regressive. I'm talking about Igbo's born and raised abroad that obviously have an inclination towards Nigeria and know how other systems work the way they do. There is no point asking people who have never really been part of a progressive culture to replicate those systems. They only end up introducing the Nigerian factor into anything they do. The culture in terms of actually being part of a system is different.

How can they reproduce what they don't know?
the problem is what is the percentage of Igbo born and brought up abroad appreciate where they are from because of the way they are being brought up?you live in uk look around you

Any time I come around I will try my best to reach there. Any construction work this rainy period is mere shakara. Governors should stop wasting our money claiming to be constructing roads during this period of heavy rains. Rehabilitation is allowed as I learnt was done on Douglas.

Op how I wish it were someone like you and not this cancerous KANU that had resulted in Igbo's looking towards their region. One thing Nigeria and Igbos often overlook is its diaspora.

The diaspora is not just people to send money for school fees many of us have positions in the engine rooms of nations Nigeria wants to emulate. Many are privy to how these systems work and are maintained. There needs to be some bridging of ideas and resources. If we can think of state cooperation for mutual benefit that would be a start. I know Obiano is thinking this way and the rest of us have a vested interest in its success.

We have small scale industries that need to be supported and allowed to grow, for example look at the shoe makers and tailors or even those that replicate almost anything at Aba or Onitsha.....we need to be organising them and even developing trade schools and colleges so they can produce world class quality goods and the term 'Aba or Igbo made' will actually have a different connotation. Many times you hear of young talents creating thongs and you never hear of them again after it is no longer news. This should not be so. We should have organisations or crowd funding facilities for their talent to flourish and one day be responsible for breakthrough innovation in Igboland and Nigeria.

Politically I think the diaspora should be more involved by supporting progressive candidates and their grass root ideas. When I say diaspora I mean those that were either born and raised in the diaspora or spent formative years abroad.
depends on how those raised or born in diaspora think or are raised..not the like of Liverpool ibe that insists the pronunciation is IYB..meaning he has no regard about where he is from..i actually prefer those raised in Nigeria or preferably east and travelled out to become professional as those have inclination to where they are from

They need to evolve, I will be meeting a guy that will build an ecommerce site for me next month, online stores and shopping malls are now taking over the retail business in Nigeria but our people are not seeing the looming danger, they still stuck to the old other.

They need to evolve and move along with the world, governments in East need to be organising symposium, seminars, workshops and summits on comtemprorary ways of doing business now so that our people will joiin the bandwagon.

See how different automobile coys are making inroads into Nigeria, will our people keep importing instead of divesting and to manufacturing and local production.

Our people should buckle up
yudala already has an outlet that is about to be opened in owerri..i am sure you know the people behind it

Well, it doesn't beat London's transport. How would the country realistically be restructured?
simply allow states to have the rights to be in charge of every available resources within its domain..state and fg can agree on the taxes to be remitted to fg to take care of foreign affairs, military and the likes..problem however is that unlike in usa and Germany states here were created by FG rather than coming together to form a country like the earlier countries I mentioned

Straight roads are different from planning. That Onitsha was built on a grid plan doesn't mean it's automatically better planned. London is not a grid system but has better infrastructure than New York. If Bridgehead is truly being restructured, then that's great, but I still think there's a lot of drastic restructuring to take place taking the market people into account. And a central reservation with some grass is different from an actual park.
sure about London having better infrastructure than new York?..i still think the issue of exclusive list should be revisited for any meaningful thing to happen...the country at the moment is structured for consumption and sharing rather than wealth creating and development

You see, Agbachakwa egwu, ona n'ukwu.

There is something fundamentally wrong with Nigeria. And this is why it will never be a great country. Nigeria needs restructuring, but to do that, you will strike at the very thing that made some people yearn for "One Nigeria".

The demand for more states and the reason we have many states is because of lack of fiscal federalism, the amount of state you have determines the amount of Senators, LGAs, house of rep members you have, it also determines how much you get from the FG monthly and appointments into civil service, ministers, Ambassadors even things like NDA admission, siting of federal institutions like Universities / University teaching hospitals, and FMCs.

If every region is allowed to manage her resources on her own, no monthly "bambilala" to Abuja, equal representation at the national assembly, etc.
People will see more reason to unite and save the cost of governance, but with the way Nigeria is structured, it will be stupidity to merge states in your region, you will lose out.
what you just wrote is the biggest problem we have both in the east and nigeria..some dont even understand why one should generate their own resources

Most of your 'infrastructure' amount to no more than residential homes that are mostly empty except during Christmas since the bulk of your really successful population reside and earn a living outside of the region. And did I hear you say economy? Beyond trading at Onitsha, Aba and Ariara markets, what other viable businesses exist in the region? Oga, there are many world class things in this state more especially the multi-national industries.

Come to Aba with unbiased mind i promise you won't leave again, the city is well-planned with sweet buildings, and there's life in the city.

Besides, Abia does not receive huge allocation like other Niger-delta states, Ondo, Edo, and Imo receive more than it, while Akwa-ibom, Rivers, Delta, and Bayelsa are the almighty in Niger-delta region in terms of monthly allocations.
no need defending ouk and ta orki's inept regimes
