The only time imo state witnessed this kind of opening up of access roads was during mbakwe's tenure. He uses local contractor because he believes in empowering imo citizens. And most times, these contractors do not do the best of works, i must say. if you are building a house and the contractor is misbehaving you either caution the contractor or replace him because you are monitoring his work so your last line does not hold water |

Like the Douglas road. at least he constructed roads is not good enough because Imo state is a located within a rainforest region therefore adequate drainage and thickness of asphalt must be put into consideration..no need constructing roads that would fail in three yrs..ok the roads that are getting bad are those he refurbished which were constructed by previous admin..does this sound right to your ear?how would you feel if fg reconstructs owerri aba federal road and it started failing in three yrs? So because he reconstructed previous admin roads is an excuse for road failing instead of poor quality works? And no it is nor just reconstructed roads..go and visit ongoing umuguma road construction and see if the quality of construction will make you proud |

RareDiamond: Glimmer of hope for forgotten Enyimba Hotel 0 By Our Reporter on July 22, 2015 Oriental News
…As state govt gives illegal occupiers quit notice
From OKEY SAMPSON, Aba
Are you looking for a place where human beings struggle with rodents for accommodation? If so, travel to Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State and take a ride to the abandoned Enyimba Hotel located by the side of the Aba River, a few metres from the city’s main motor park.
For those who may not know, Enyimba Hotel was built by the late Dr Sam Mbakwe administration over 30 years ago, the foundation stone haven been laid shortly before that of Concord Hotel, Owerri.
While Concord, a three-star hotel like Enyimba Hotel is still bubbling with activities year in year out, churning out revenue for the Imo State government, Enyimba Hotel is standing as a wasted edifice and free abode for policemen and rodents.
Despite the fact that some policemen and members of their families reside inside the abandoned hotel, grasses and weeds have taken over the expansive compound housing the six-storey three-star hotel.
Added to this development is that fact that relations of the policemen leaving inside the hotel have also converted the compound into car parks, kiosks and shops.
To be precise, Enyimba Hotel’s foundation stone was laid by Dr Mbakwe in 1979 before the administration was booted out by the General Muhammadu Buhari-led military junta in 1983, and then the main building had been completed but without furniture and fittings.
But this gigantic edifice that could have added to the aesthetics of the Enyimba City, as well as boost the internally generated revenue of the state has been lying fallow, and serving as a hideout for Indian hemp smokers before mobile policemen affected by inadequate accommodation illegally took over the premises.
A visit to the expansive compound lying beside the waterside river showed that the adjoining buildings which appeared to be the staff quarters were yet to be completed, while its surroundings had been taken over by overgrown weeds and thick bushes.
Speaking to Oriental News, a resident of an adjoining street to the hotel, Mr Azubuike Nweze, who claimed to have witnessed the foundation stone laying ceremony of the edifice, lamented that the hotel which he said would have been a major revenue earner for the government, as well as a source of employment and relaxation to the people of the city has been allowed to lie waste.
While commending Mbakwe for his vision in siting industries and hotels across the old Imo State which now comprises Abia, Imo and the Afikpo bloc in Ebonyi State, he, however, expressed some reservations that Enyimba Hotel was abandoned in preference to the completion of Concord Hotel in Owerri.
His words: “It is unfortunate that Enyimba Hotel has been abandoned by successive governments after being also abandoned by the Mbakwe administration in preference to the completion of the Concord Hotel in Owerri, Imo State.
“It was built by Governor Sam Mbakwe, but it is regrettable succeeding administrations have not found it worthy to complete the hotel which would be a major revenue earner for the state. Look at the scenery situation beside the Ogbor Hill River, it can serve as a tourist centre attraction and you know what that means. Governor Sam Mbakwe’s vision of siting industries across the then old Imo State is commendable. He laid the foundation stone of Enyimba Hotel which was started before Concord Hotel in Owerri, but he completed Concord Hotel. The Abia State government should make haste to complete the abandoned hotel.”
It was in the midst of the abandonment of such edifice that some policemen who were hit by accommodation problem converted the hotel to their quarters and due to the unkempt nature of the place, rodents also found some spaces in the hotel, co-habiting and finding the police as their good ‘friends’.
However, this co-habitation has got an expiring date as the current government in Abia has given the ‘occupiers’ of the hotel quit notice.
In a statement released in Umuahia, the government said it was giving those living in the hotel two weeks to quit or they would be forcefully evicted.
The government’s action it was gathered was to re-acquire the hotel, rehabilitate and put it into proper use.
Residents have applauded the government’s move, describing it as the right step in the right direction.
They contended that since the hotel was among the projects to which the Mbakwe administration borrowed substantially to build and to which successive governments in the state laboured to pay back, that everything possible should be done to ensure that the hotel comes on stream for the state to recoup the money it spent in building it and then serve as a source of avenue for IGR for the state.
http://sunnewsonline.com/new/glimmer-of-hope-for-forgotten-enyimba-hotel/ if abia state government decides to rehabilitate and make the hotel functional they must bring professionals to run it and nit govt running it |

abagoro: http://imostateonline.com/economy/1234-ikeduru-born-businessman-set-to-build-abattoir-across-nigeria
Decrying the poor meat condition round the country, an Ikeduru, Imo State born businessman,Dr Uzoma Obiyo, may have stepped in to rescue the situation as his Group,Multi-Net, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the Federal Government on the development and operation of Modern International standard abattoirs in the six geo-political zones of the country.
Rising from the brief signing ceremony in Abuja recently, the Permanent Secretary,Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr Sonny Echono tasked the Multi-Net Group to deliver healthy, quality fresh meat locally and further generate income and livelihood for the livestock farmers.
Speaking to the Press after putting pen to paper,Dr Obiyo said: “My dream and objective for this modern abattoir is to produce healthy and quality fresh and local produced animals, provide income and livelihood for livestock farmers of whom he is intending to work with, towards achieving his dreams, and also to attract young unemployed youths into farming and live-stock production.”
He said his company expects a situation where a young person will be proud to say that he or she is a butchery expert and earning good living with it. Obiyo noted that Africa, especially Nigeria, has no excuse to rely on imported meat products.
He said: “I believe that Africa and Nigeria should not be relying on imported meat products of which the hygiene and quality are questionable, he wants to develop a meat and livestock process value-chain whereby there will be traceability in our meat products, and also the quality and hygiene will be guaranteed.
“ At the moment such facility and process is lacking, so it is of no surprise that most of the large hotels and restaurants in Nigeria, import their meat and livestock products from South Africa, and costing the nation a large chunk of its scarce dollars in capital flight and of cause denying our local farmers their needed in-come.”
The Chairman of Multi-Net maintained that he is on a mission and will not stop until Nigeria and Africa is self- sufficient in feeding its populations and providing them with adequate energy for domestic use and industrialisation. He stressed that his company is also concerned about the provision of locally produced petroleum products for local consumption.
Obiyo said that issues of local content unsettles him, noting Nigeria has the human and natural resources to drive its economy without a recourse to foreigners. “I believe we have the capacity both in human-resources and natural resources and it is for that reason. I am a passionate supporter and promoter of Local Content in every sector, because I see no reason our best are running out of the country and helping to build other country’s viable economy while we are employing people from those foreign countries, whom their own countries will not employ,” he said. Projecting into the future, the chairman maintained that he is committed to seeing Nigeria dominates the global economy in food export and production.
At the moment, Obiyo said that he wants to produce healthy and fresh quality food for Nigeria with zero wastage because everything in the farm and in the abattoir will be utilised. He regretted seeing a lot of wastes in the food, agricultural and livestock chain. He revealed that he has also got a viable and implementable plan to go into fisheries and fish processing and storage.
Obiyo called on the Federal Government, the citizenry, especially other entrepreneurs to emulate the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to support the local industries. On his own, he said he is ready to collaborate with Federal and State governments and agencies to make foods and livestock, healthy, hygienic and affordable by all. He sought the concerted efforts of all Nigerians and the President for a serious and sincere fight for locally produced food in the country.
Obiyo recalled that Multi-Net Group Limited had early this year signed an MoU with the Federal Ministry of Power for the development of the coal fields in Enugu. The MoU, said the chairman, is for the generation 500mega- watts (mw) in the first instant and in the long-term increase the generation to 1,000mw. He revealed that after the pact with the Ministry of Power, he has flagged-off the studies necessary for the implementation of its project -”Using coal to Light Up Nigeria.” The chairman noted that unlike many who just sign MOU and do nothing with it, he “ is a restless, creative, energetic and innovator who is resolute and convinced that we have all it takes to produce enough power for domestic and industrial use but also for export.”
Since signing the MOU, Obiyo noted that he has commenced and nearly completed all the necessary studies needed to commence the next stage of making his project “Using Coal to Light Up Nigeria” a reality.
He however explained that “the only delay now in bringing my dream to reality is the Coal licence of which I am hoping that, with the intervention of the Federal Ministry of Power and all the necessary agencies that I will move fast with his very detailed and time-lined road–map on generating 500mw of electricity from coal.”
Commenting on his enterprise, he said MULTI-NET GROUP LIMITED is wholly owned and an indigenous Nigerian company, of whom he is the Chairman. He described himself as an established and successful entrepreneur in the Telecom Industry.
Continuing, the chaiman said he “is a man with a good nose for business opportunities that sometimes people are becoming to imagine me as the Warren Buffet of our own but they can see me by-passing the success of Warren Buffet, so the only comparison between us is our noses in smelling out business opportunities even when others do not see it. “For Dr. Obiyo, any difficulty I encounter in the process everyday life and business becomes another business potential, because I do not believe in moaning or passing bucks but I believe that Nigerians and Africans should solve all our infrastructure problems.” l hope he can finish one first before jumping to the other |
