Politics › Re: Why Enugu Airport May Not Be Profitable by asha80(m): 4:35pm On Aug 10, 2013 |
Jingo-OAU: Am very sure that 90percent of us here are novice when it comes to aviation business. As a Cabin Crew, I still know some details concerning the passenger traffic.
Those things some of us know are little compared to those things we do not know. Some of us just concluded prematurely that Igbos constitute over 50percent of air travellers in Nigeria, and I laugh. As a cabin crew, before a flight take off, we already have the flight manifest with us where passengers name are written.
Let me divert our attention a bit, Aminu Kano int'l airport in Kano carries more passengers than all the south east airports combined both local and international flights. Infact, most flights coming from Libya, lebanon, malaysia, egypt, saudi arabi, Dubai, UAE, Kuwait, Oman, Georgia, and some other middle east countries are populated by the Hausas. All these flights are restricted to the nothern part of Nigeria, especially for those Hausa traders who import and export their goods. 95percent of Hausa traders ply Kano airport instead of Lagos for international flight. Infact, all the hajj and umrah operations concerning Hausas are done in Kano.
Let it be clear to most of us here that flights originating frm LOS to Kaduna, kano, Maiduguri, abuja, and some other less important airports are populated by Hausa traders. Nevertheless, in as much am not disputing the fact that Igbos do travel a lot. Their travellings only peak once in a year and dats during december alone. For the northerners, they travel everynow and then, but dey dnt stay permanently in foreign countries.
The reason no airports in southwest of Nigeria carries more passenger is cos of proximity to Lagos. It will definitely make no business sense for another airport to be situated in Ogun state. For instance, southwest of Nigeria is as big as Ghana, yet the whole of Ghana only have Kotoka int'l airport as d main functional airport. Its very much better for any passenger residing in ibadan, abeokuta, oshogbo, etc to drive straight to Lagos rather than boarding an unnecessary flight direct frm their source.
Moreso, some people even talk as if we are so rich in this country. How many nairalander has travelled out of this country not to talk of travelling with an aeroplane within Nigeria. And yet, some idiots would be beating their chest that their ancestors travelled more than others when in actual sense, they are limited to their erosion-driven region doing farming. you sound bitter. |

op why not allow the foreign airlines that have decided to use that route make the decision whether it is profitable or not. |

Any update on geometric power plant aba? This is august, that plant should be up and running now with at least 23hrs of electricty supply now! Any aba resident on this thread to give us update? not sure but there was a thread here about geometric laying transmission lines all over aba some weeks ago.i can't post it here now as i am typing with my phone. |

billante: The project was on the papers last week asking for contractors that will construct transmission lines from the okija plant to nnewi and onitsha sub stations to submit interest!
Ernest azudialu(nestoil) is putting down 50% of the money while african development bank(AFD)is bringing the rest! Hamakorp a civil construction company that is part of the nestoil group has been mobilised to do d civil works.....the first phase of 450MW is expected to fire its turbines by last quarter of 2014, the other 1000MW will follow suit in subsequent phases!
What am excited about the project is that it is coming from a serious business man that has the capital to actualize the project in record time(that guy dropped the whole 20 something billion naira cash to julius berger to build his nestoil 20 storey building headquarters in Victoria island....this one no be mobilization fee rubbish...the whole contract money cash)....and this plant when completed will energies the whole of anambra industrial/residential energy consumption for years to come. i actually know azudialu is a no nonsense biz man but the advert about contractors that would lay transmission wires to nnewi and onitsha is it in any online newspaper one can see? |

duality: Buhari has the right to run for president. he has massive cultlike follower-ship in the north. and should not back down. Buhari should know that this is a media campaign by the ACN to dictate what happens in the APC. Buhari should insist on running or he loses his political investments and relevance. what you just wrote is recipe for crises in apc. |

slap1: Onyeka Nwelue is a young, fortunate writer. However this 'article' is very childish, acutely subjective and embarrassingly pretentious.
Even so, every writer, at a point, becomes ambivalent about what they have written or said in the past. For Mr. Nwelue, this write-up may just be one he will remember with mixed feelings sometime in the future. slap1 guy off topic.....remember our discussion on ihedioha and mbaise...you said 60 percent of road infrastructure are being done by him...are the roads quality?are they wide spread in mbaise land?i called someone and he confirmed the same thing for me. |

Before Ngige there was no state govt rd with Nylon grade tar, there were no roads at all whole towns and villages where blocked of from civilization salaries were not paid No pensions, strike
Now after rolling on the mud with Obi for 8 yrs you want to continue. is that not what obi has been doing?constructing roads linking forgotten communities and towns?did obi stop paying salaries and pensions?. |

Now u got Rochas in the fold too. APGA is disorganised, it is a party of mercenaries. U should be ashamed associating urself to that party. actually massob and obi were not in good terms at that time of 2011 elections. |
