And churches don't make the worst noises during night vigil? or on Sundays?

Now I used the above example because the victim of his own insensitivity is a pastor.

Have you been to barking market? Umm a better example is Premier league matches which sometimes demands the closing of roads in big matches,

Look, you have no argument here,
the pastor was insensitive or just being a hater,  No where in the article did it say every week it said sallah celebration and that ain't every week,

He deserves the beating,
you are actually arguing with yourself here.

i said

asha 80:
blocking of roads during specific days of the week for prayers whether friday or not.
what makes you think i meant only moslems with that comment  huh

my main grouse is that you are comparing festivals like nothing hill carnival(annual event) to worship days (weekly affair)  with respect to obvious inconveniences.

sallah might just be the final nail to the pastors mind but if you know abuja well fridays there are almost always like that.

Sectarian violence almost erupted at Gwarimpa Estate, Abuja on Sunday when one Pastor Ernest Onyems of the Shore House Church narrowly escaped being lynched by Muslim youths who were offended by his comments over the use of a road as praying ground for the Sallah celebration.

Please when did Sallah turn to a weekly thing undecided undecided undecided undecided undecided undecided undecided

ummm I know the worst case is still the redeem church's camp ground =. tho not on the road, it really causes a mess for the road still,  The pastor was insensitive simple,  It was an islamic festival not like they do it everyday geez,

He deserves the beating,

Please I don't want to here non of you "Americans" saying "in the US",  Please please,   Please during parades etc,  roads are blocked too,  Notting Hill carnival in the UK is same,  Caribana in Toronto, is same, it goes on,  So please don't display your ignorance here
you are comparing yearly rituals to weekly ones?
Politics › Re: If Nigeria Don't Revolt Fuel Subsidy Removal by asha80(m): 9:16pm On Nov 09, 2011
Blackteeth:
If Nigerians don't embark on a rampaging revolt when the fuel subsidy thing is eventually removed then it means nothing on earth will ever make Nigerians kick-start a revolution. That will further embolden our leaders to introduce more tougher policies that will be very unfriendly to the citizens and also make them abuse their powers further cos they will always say "dem no fit do anything".
I pray the subsidy is not removed, but if they go ahead with it Nigerians should make sure they give our leaders the Gaddaffi treatment or else. . .
forget it.it is not happening

Back to topic: then we don't have real democracy. If this is the situation, why do many people put so much energy on rotational presidency instead of addressing real issue of representation at all levels? It beats my imagination. Nigeria is full of enlightened minds.
answer = oil money

asha 80,

Are you suggesting that lack of accountability is as a result of absence of direct tax? Aren't people aware that allocation is public fund?
that is not entirely the reason but i am sure you might be more concerend with the money you pay as tax to the lg chairman living close to you or next door if he uses it for himself.

as for allocation being public fund yes the people might know but i think the issue is more cultural.

Peter Odili was busy looting Rivers State money, sharing chunk of it with militants and thugs while, Mua'zu Of Bauchi is tiling pavements, planting inter road flowers and mounting solar powered street lights. You see.
not doubting the above but i know for a fact that you dare not build a road in the east even if it is a highway with up to 60% of the length of the road not having drainage system unlike the north where the whole length of the road can go without one
Politics › Re: Do We Really Have A Democracy In Nigeria Compared To Other Countries? by asha80(m): 7:47pm On Nov 09, 2011

Dear all,
I was privileged to serve for a period of four years in the Municipality of Modena, northern Italy, as Counsellor. With immigrant community numbering over 70 thousand, the local government deemed it proper to give resident non nationals two seats in the Assembly. Within my counsellor-ship I had a glimpse of democracy in action. I noticed that Representatives cut across professions from law, to teaching down to trading. Counsellors sat once/twice a week without giving up  their own trade - being their major source of income. We only received sitting allowances of a hundred euro per sitting - gross pay. Reps had regular meetings with members of their constituency and who could equally come to witness deliberations in the house.

My question goes: do we practise real democracy in Nigeria? Do we have a devolution of power in a three tier formula? Why do we clamour only for the seat of the presidency ignoring vital areas of Reps, Senate and local government? Why do local government chairmen become rich overnight but no one seems to care? Are the separation of powers working in Nigeria? Please I will be glad if someone can join me in my perplexity.
Thank you
my guess here is that in nigeria people do not pay tax directly to the local council.lg chairmen get there money through allocation

Business › Re: Orient Refinery Fully Operational End Of 2012 by asha80(m): 7:27am On Nov 09, 2011
Tinyemeka:
When I first read the post and saw Emeka Anyaokwu as Chairman of their board, my first thought was: "wow! From Statesman to business-man. Interesting". But then that's the function of most non-executive directors and chairmen of boards- some to contribute their diverse experience to corporate decision-making and others to lend credibility to the board, a function which I believe Emeka's presence strongly created.

On to the main issue, a few items noted in the newspaper article gave me cause for concern. I am not fully knowledgeable in these matters but is it actually possible to fully construct and commission a 55,000 bpd refinery in the space of 12 months? Yes, so much time has been spent on the pre-construction phase, I'm also aware of their office presence in Awka as far back as 2003 (when I used to be a Unizik undergrad), orders have been placed and presumably credit has been put in place for the component parts to be shipped in, why even EIA has been conducted already, but can the refinery actually be assembled and commissioned in one year? Although I'm a bit skeptical about this, I'd be very happy if they deliver on their promise. There is also another refinery of a similar scale that had been proposed to be built in Akamkpa, Cross-river state. The promoter then in an interview (2005 or thereabouts), cited discussions they'd had with refinery builders in Texas. My fingers are still crossed on that one.

A second issue I observed is the OPL licences that Orient was granted as extra security to availability of crude stock. An Oil Prospecting Licence as compared to an Oil Mining Licence in a location, does not give a 100% guarantee that crude will be extracted from that location. With an OPL, the licence holder has the right to prospect for and check the availability of extractable oil deposits in quantities that is commercially-viable. Does the licence holder now have to apply for an OML before pumping out oil? I don't know. Our better-informed readers can enlighten us more. But I am aware of a dispute Gen T.Y Danjuma had when OBJ was president, in which Danjuma had been granted an OPL and after spending so much money on prospecting and oil was eventually discovered, the OML was sold to another entity because of an alleged fall-out Danjuma then had with OBJ. So the OPL listed in the article seems more like counting the roosters before the eggs have even hatched. And what did they mean by saying the oil-fields were relatively closer to the refinery site? Are there oil-fields in Anambra state? Well, that is talk for another day.

All in all, let's just pray that this project comes to fruition as promised. I'm eagerly awaiting this one in particular. More private refineries are needed in the country as the fuel subsidy removal is being considered. If not for anything, at least to cushion the price shock that'll follow. And they'll still make their money in the process.
there are huge gas deposits there
