McDoe:
If you have tasted unemployment, you would say the move is better than nothing. Don't forget that every job in this country except very few, are slave jobs. I watched the other day on tv how young lawyers were complaining of the poor pay the receive from their bosses which ranges from N15,000-N25,000. Good job in name but no fulfilment and no good money. How do we see this? If we can ride cabs in abroad and be respected and make good money, then it behoves that we change our attitude/orientation and accord every job the respect and pay it deserves. what is important is how to keep body and soul together.
You are comparing driving cabs abroad to driving cabs in naija especially in relation with graduates huh

I have always told english people that cares to listen that the first thing i will do when i get to africa is to renounce my english name,if not for anything but for self-discovery,a name that connects my roots and reality.

Some times i wonder why my father gave me an english,he wasn't particularly a christian,up to date for his time, yet he ignored the mediocrity in naming a child after a tyrannic french or english kings and queens, names like edward, louis, micheal, george, mary, elizabeth, etc.
I this is more of a subsaharan african problem.I once worked in a place where there was only me(a nigerian) and a Zimbabwean as the only African there.Others were white people.

The Zimbabwean made one funny statement in front of the whites than she thanked God that that her parents gave her and english name huh. This statement was made by her because of the discussion going on at that time about the whites there finding my name a bit difficult to pronounce.

I also once met friend of this Zimbabwean who said that her name was Posher huh cheesy

Some of the contributions here show that there is no problem having many wives. In fact, Nigeria culture and law does not limit the number of wives a man can have.

Let us face the reality. What about the consequence of having more than one wife? I mean the effect of having more than one.
Anyone still there?

UUmm, I am not 1 out of 7 and I don't know a lot of ibo couples of that age with less than 3 kids. In fact, some lost a child or two to end up with less but many more have about 4.
Like the Senator opined he is aware of the economic climate in nigeria.I guess people you know are mostly based in US.Nigerian economy is a different kettle of fish. Most parents from that side of the country are not ready to bring babies they are not sure of they can train these days.Hence the tendency for fewer babies.

German beats Nigerian to coma, arrested
National News Oct 7, 2009 By Emmanuel Aziken
An expatriate German staff of Julius Berger Plc was yesterday evening being held in Police custody in Abuja after allegedly pummeling a Nigerian staff of the construction company to coma.

The German technician simply identified by the Police as Mr. Rainhargt Fleischer, according to sources, is a supervisor overseeing maintenance of part of the Senate new building.

He had reportedly entered into an altercation with a Nigerian staff identified as John Adeniyi over the latter’s alleged idleness yesterday morning.

The incident which took place at 9.30 a.m. ahead of yesterday evening’s football encounter between Nigeria and Germany in the ongoing FIFA Under 20 World Cup tournament taking place in Egypt. The brawl was, however, not directly linked to the football match which German won 3-2.

According to a witness accounts, Fleischer had accosted Adeniyi, an air-conditioner technician, where he sat along the corridor of the Senate new building, asking why he was idle.

The German, though, not on the air-conditioning maintenance unit, was said to have demanded explanations from Adeniyi who, his Nigerian colleagues claimed to have finished his round of maintenance duties at that time.

Following what he was said to have seen as Adeniyi’s unsatisfactory explanation, the German was said to have demanded Adeniyi’s identity card, a demand the Nigerian turned down. Fleischer, according to sources, brought out his mobile phone attempting to use it to take a snapshot of the Nigerian, an attempt that was frustrated by the latter.

Adeniyi, according to witnesses, was said to have blocked the view of the German’s camera phone, an action that was said to have irritated him who thus gave Adeniyi a kick in his private part.

John, according to sources collapsed and went into convulsion and subsequently into a coma, an action that prompted his Nigerian colleagues to rush to his aid. He was rushed to the nearby Julius Berger clinic in the National Assembly from where he was rushed to the Julius Berger clinic in Life Camp, Abuja.

The technician was apprehended by security operatives in the National Assembly and was as at press time yesterday evening being held at the National Assembly police station.

The Divisional Police Officer at the National Assembly, Mr. Mohammed Shehu confirmed the arrest.
