i do not see any big deal. being healthy is priceless, if the man needs medical assistance, let him go get it. i don't even care if it takes 8 months. you need a good health to be able to function well. with all the unclosed deals/rubbish the previous administration left behind, i still feel that yaradua is doing ok. things are starting to change for better, our constitution is now being embraced more than before, we are now seeing many new development all over the country and investors are now returning back to invest their money. it is a matter of time, nigeria will be back on the map like those old beautiful days. again, if the man needs medical trip, let it be. afterall he's still the president of this country. please, do not let us make big deal out of this new development. |

Here's hoping when he comes back, he will be ready to face the nation's problems headon. We really need some push forward in that nation oo!! The way I see it, we as a people are not ready to force change on him, so we might as well hope that he be given some drug or eats something out there to spur him to start working on, say, leaving a good legacy for himself or something. That might move him to start working on some of the countries issues, else, all I can say is we just have to wait till the next election 2 years from now to see change. @kobojunkie I like your optimism but sorry dear, nigeria is already gone to the gallows. |

Politics › Mend Calls Off Ceasefire,threatens Attack On Jtf by asha80(op): 10:33pm On Jan 15, 2009 |
http://www.punchng.com/Article.aspx?theartic=Art200901153335292 MEND calls off ceasefire, threatens attack on JTF By Ibanga Isine, Port Harcourt Published: Thursday, 15 Jan 2009 The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta on Wednesday said it had called off the ceasefire it declared last year and vowed to launch an attack on operatives of the Joint Task Force.
MEND issued the threat following the killing of Mr. Tubotamuno Angolia, also known as ‘Boy Chiki’, by troops stationed in Bakana, Rivers State ,on Tuesday.
Spokesman of the group, Jomo Gbomo, in an e-mail to The Punch, said MEND had got a report of the murder of Chiki after being arrested by soldiers on the orders of the JTF regional commander.
Although it said the deceased was not one of its members, the group debunked the claim that Chiki was killed while trying to escape.
Part of the mail reads, “Since the JTF is not a law onto itself, it cannot arrogate the kind of justice to mete out to any suspect on its so-called wanted list.
“Our source tells us that Mr. Angolia was handcuffed, urinated and spat on by the soldiers who referred to him in Hausa language as a ‘dead dog‘ before pulling the trigger on the defenceless man while they laughed as he bled to death.
“This is not acceptable. MEND has, therefore, decreed today, January 14, 2009, that every soldier in uniform inside the Niger Delta region is a fair target in reprisal for the killings which are now becoming a common practice and endorsed by the Nigerian government.
“Our first spectacular urban attack on a military patrol will announce the end of the ceasefire.”
Meanwhile, troops stationed in Bori are said to have arrested two top aides of Ateke Tom, the leader of the Niger Delta Vigilance Movement, in their continued clampdown on militants in Rivers State.
A source gave the nick name of one of those arrested as Ecomog, adding that the action of the troops had infuriated Tom and might likely spark off reprisal attacks in some parts of the state.
When contacted on the threat by MEND, the JTF spokesman, Lt.-Col. Sagir Musa, said, “They are welcome. If they want to attack military locations, let them go ahead.”
Musa also confirmed the arrest of two members of the Niger Delta Vigilance Movement and said that the suspects had been brought to JTF headquarters in Port Harcourt |

Here is what I do not understand. Does one have to compare one's current situation to worse before one can conclude whether there is an urgent need for change or not? I have a problem with persons telling me to be thankful that I am not in ward 7 in LUTH when I am able to see that my current situation is not even close to the best I can attain. Why do we feel we ought to compare life in Nigeria to worse situations out in WAR-Torn countries? Why? Maybe because we are thanking God that we have not yet approached that situation though we are closing in. |

My verdict is that me as a person will not lay my life down or even put it in risk to be a hero or clamour for change because those that have died in recent years have just died for nothing. So why should i be inspired to risk my life when those who did it did not have any useful impact? Well it seems you and the the man are thinking alike |

Politics › Re: I Hereby Renounce My Nigerian Citizenship by asha80(m): 8:22pm On Jan 13, 2009 |
The man is an idiot. That's all there is to it. Not to mention attention seeker.
This is why I always say people should learn how to apply whatever form of literacy they think they have, to practical use.
He organized a rally- no one showed up. Or few people showed up. He then went crazy and started raving about Nigeria as if he knew nothing about the place before.
He should learn from his so-called birthplace how they do things there. Google how to organize a rally.
First of all, if you're relying on the faceless people you meet on some random internet forum most of who are just posting for leisure, to be the backbone of your so called rally, then you're setting yourself up for a big shocker.
Which rally has he himself ever attended and does he know how these things work.
Thirdly, there's no hard and fast rule about how many people have to be there for a demonstration to take place. 10 people can picket somewhere as long as you have the relevant PERMITS. I saw a photo of the rednecks for Obama during his campaign- the "rednecks" rallying for him were barely up to 10. They probably did it for the free coffee and doughnuts.
So instead of crying because thousands of people didnt show up why not make do with what you have even if its only four of you. Display placards and the like and if you have the connections, call some local newspaper and snap a few pictures. Even religious riot instigators know this basic fact when they want to collect cash from their sponsors.
don't know if the guy has been watching too much coverage of Holy Ghost Congress and thus thinks Nigerians will troop out in the millions to attend his rally. What's in it for them?
geez, all this is basic stuff.
And this is why its important to read. Prior to becoming the US president, Abraham Lincoln unsuccessfully ran for various offices and lost. If he'd started cursing out the US and thrown in the towel, the idiotic poster wouldnt be typing all this trash today. He (the tantrum thrower)'d more likely be growing cotton or rubber on some plantation in Africa most likely . What is in it for nigerians to join demonstrations against bad goverment in nigeria? With this kind of reasoning no wonder nigeria will continue to be a disgrace in the world |
