Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke October 24, 2012 An oil exploration bidding round will be held before the end of the year, while licence renewal talks with Shell and Chevron over existing onshore fields are in their final stages, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, has said. The licensing round is coming five years after the last one held in 2007 by the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo. Obasanjo also held oil licensing rounds in 2000 and 2003. Nigeria, Africa’s biggest oil producer, exports over two million barrels per day and also holds the world’s ninth largest gas reserves of 182.75 trillion cubic feet, which are largely untapped. The Federal Government also hopes to increase oil reserves to 40 billion barrels by 2020, from the current 36.2 billion barrels. The country’s light, low sulphur crude oil is popular with United States and Asian buyers, but oil majors said uncertainty over changes in regulation in the Petroleum Industry Bill and insecurity in the onshore Niger Delta were holding back new investments. “We expect within the next couple of months a marginal bid round will be announced. We hope a major bid round will follow before the end of the year,” Alison-Madueke told Reuters in an interview. “Shell and Chevron (onshore licence renewals) are … in the final stages now, those will definitely be out before the end of the year,” she added. Exxon Mobil signed 20-year oil licence renewals on Nigerian onshore assets, producing around 550,000 barrels per day in February, but other oil majors are still negotiating terms with the government. Some industry experts have questioned why licences are being renewed before the National Assembly has passed the Petroleum Industry Bill, which will adjust terms on these types of contracts. “It would have become slightly cumbersome to keep waiting on the PIB before the renewals,” Alison-Madueke said in reply. The National Assembly is currently debating the PIB, a wide-ranging law that has been delayed for more than five years on disputes between oil firms and different arms of government. If it becomes law, the bill should end years of regulatory uncertainty that has blocked billions of dollars of investment. Foreign oil majors, including Shell and Exxon, have said the tax terms in the current version of the PIB would make exploration in the deep offshore, which is the key to growing Nigeria’s oil and gas output and reserves, non-viable. “I think it is very difficult in general if you have been receiving a certain level of profit over quite a long period of time, to adjust to a slightly lower level of profitability,” Alison-Madueke said of the oil majors’ complaints. “We went over these terms several times … we kept ourselves competitive,” she added. The minister said after the changes were made in the PIB, the “government’s take” on offshore projects would increase by 10 per cent to 73 per cent, lower than in rival producers Angola, Norway and Indonesia. The PIB is meant to overhaul everything from fiscal terms to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation. safarigirl: It's the lecturer-student relationship that's getting disturbing, if you know the average age of a Nigerian lecturer to that of the student, going byu the fact that these people don't want to retire, you'll be a bit nauseated at the rate these marriages take place, it's almost like child abuseGive me an age ratio please? It sounds somewhat sickening but I do not believe lecturers alone indulge in that sort of nastiness. What about politicians, business men? |

I am not surprised that you are upset and angry. If I were you I would be upset and angry too.... at myself for foolishly expecting her to lend me money that she does not own. Technically she could get into serious trouble and it would be illegal if she were working for a bank and followed your request. She was smart and your request was silly. |
ivorybabe88: Very true, if he has the means and cates he should atleast offerWhy doesn't she move in with him so that the rent issue can be resolved. That will free up more money for her education. |
lafile: Lol. I don't know who this guy is o. But I know he is fake. Sell at N75 per liter. Thats a joke. South Korea sells petrol at over $1.50 per liter. Yet you want to get it there, add logistics costs, bank charges, storage and clearing fees and sell it at $0.6 or there about. Na magic? Do you know the cost of crude on Platts today? Do you know the cost of refining? Nigerians should let people play on their intelligence and emotions. Is it really the portfolio marketers we should be screaming at? They are not the ones who are holding the country to ransom with strikes etc. Didn't they just carry the head of Capital oil? Are they not a major marketer with storage facilities? This myth of the portfolio marketers has been exposed because the kerosene situation was by the big boys? |
King Solomon I: With all these discovery of oil wells everyday? they better be guided in the predictions o!They are not discovering oil wells rather they are discovering new reservoirs. They are also making more accurate determinations of the reserves in existing reservoirs (STOIIP etc.) |
Freksy: Do you mean we'll all turn to dust at death? Some slowly, some fast (cremation). Others have some of them live on as donors in other peoples bodies but yes we all eventually do become dust. |
How many times has he been summoned? I agree that he needs to answer to committees and legislators for whatever purpose they may have but he also has a major role to play in our economy as the CBN governor. How much work can be done if he is spending all his time at committees etc which are of course mostly fact finding anyway. I call no more than 4 summons a year on all issues. The rest should be perhaps by a representative. |
Religion in itself is a BIG placebo effect. Everybody knows it deep down ![]() |
Mrs.Chima:Of course you are my dear ![]() However, if you did want to leave him, you would not do it until you are financially stable/comfortable. What a load of nonsense. How is Mr Chima meant to sleep at night |
^^^ Interesting. I might need to look into this. So I am assuming it cannot be passed on if it is dormant (while taking antiretrovirals).... hmmmmm.... She could call it high BP pills or wieght loss pills etc. I take it that if the guy is smart, he grabs one or two pills, checks out its name (most likely on the pill) and goes on the internet to check up on it some more. That could work in some cases. Other than that it doesn't look good. |
Enigma: @ Atheist:-DThank you for your corrections. You stated with more detail what I have been trying to say. The church at the time was united but mostly as a group of churches with no single leadership but by discussion, agreement, councils etc. No church exerted ultimate authority over the others as the Roman Catholic church has always suggested. The schism was not the beginning of the divisions as we had Arian Christians as well as some other small denominations. At Nicea, Constantine was responsible for enforcing what was decided by the Council. He virtually outlawed Arianism. If it was prior to his time it would have been impossible to enforce this and Arian could have most likely continued in Alexandria etc. This time around it was easier to resolve by use of force if necessary (and there was use of force against Arians supporters in the upcoming persecutions). My understanding of SEE is somewhat different and probably wrong . I thought it was dominion or territory under which the Roman Catholic church existed. This was broken down into smaller SEEs and the whole region or Roman Catholic church was classified as the SEE of the Roman Catholic Church. I am probably wrong about that because I was almost a toddler when I was a member of the Catholic church. |
Mrs.Chima:A common statement amongst women. "Only divorce when you are financially comfortable" hmmmm.... ![]() |
gree-die: This will surely give me sleepless nights. Men have a lower rate of HIV transmission than women and that is even without a condom so condoms still make a difference. You are however 100% correct that she could easily get him to go without a condom. The frequency of intimacy would increase the chances of transmission. Add a few cockburns and bruises from multiple rounds of intimacy and things get scary ![]() one question, if she is on antiretrovirals does that reduce the chance of her passing the virus on to him? It would be difficult for him to be unaware if she did use antiretrovirals. |
chukwudi44: Ol man it is obvious you do not know anything about the history of the church. There was nothing like the see of the catholic church. What we had was differant sees of the catholic church among which were Rome, alexandria, carthage, antioch e.t.cI rest my case. Do you know there was mention of a specific incident in the bible where a council came together to resolve some issues. Check the Council of Jerusalem. It was resolved by James the head of the church in Jerusalem. Here are the main early councils: the Council of Jerusalem (c. 50 AD), the Council of Rome (155 AD), the Second Council of Rome (193 AD), the Council of Ephesus (193 AD), the Council of Carthage (251 AD), the Council of Iconium (258 AD),[2] the Council of Antioch (264 AD), the Councils of Arabia (246-247 AD), the Council of Elvira (306 AD), the Council of Carthage (311 AD), the Synod of Neo-Caesarea (c.314 AD), the Synod of Ancyra (314 AD) and the Synod of Arles (314 AD) Check this link for the Council of Nicea: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Council_of_Nicaea Read specifically where it states: The role of the Bishop of Rome Roman Catholics assert that idea of Christ's deity was ultimately confirmed by the Bishop of Rome, and that it was this confirmation that gave the council its influence and authority. In support of this they cite the position of early fathers and their expression of the need for all churches to agree with Rome (see Ireneaus, Adversus Haereses III:3:2).. However, Protestants and Eastern Orthodox do not believe the Council viewed the Bishop of Rome as the jurisdictional head of Christendom or someone having authority over other bishops attending the Council. In support of this they cite Canon 6, where the Roman Bishop could be seen as simply one of several influential leaders, but not one who had jurisdiction over other bishops in other regions. According to Protestant theologian Philip Schaff, "The Nicene fathers passed this canon not as introducing anything new, but merely as confirming an existing relation on the basis of church tradition; and that, with special reference to Alexandria, on account of the troubles existing there. Rome was named only for illustration; and Antioch and all the other eparchies or provinces were secured their admitted rights. The bishoprics of Alexandria, Rome, and Antioch were placed substantially on equal footing So to state. The Emperor had to resolve it because there was no spiritual authority over the other churches hence there was no way to enforce any agreements. This is indicative that the head of the Roman church had no power or authority over the other churches. There were churches spreading as far as India and China, were these under the Catholics too? What was the Council of Nicea all about? How was it resolved? What is the most important impact from it today? What can we learn from it? That was way before the schism. Try and read history books etc written by non Catholic scholars. |
So finance plays a major role in women divorcing men.... hmmmm!!! Why bother getting married in the first place. The women marry for the comforts and benefits only to divorce the men when they have gained all they can. Men are getting shortchanged in marriage. |
