Mode-9 fans are jealous of M.I.
All of a sudden, Mode-9 is now 2nd best to what most of his fans deludedly love him for.
Mode 9 is better than MI lyrically anyday. MI just drops punchlines for the sake of it and as you can see from the last 5 posts, most of them don't even make sense "i'm rare like assets" i mean come on.
He is a product of the Payola hype machine and good timing and everybody bought it. The proof however will soon be clear for all to see, when a real rapper comes along. I just feel so bad that naija's hiphop game is so bad, that someone like MI is being called the best. Don't believe the Hype.

For the Record, I think that eating dog meat is disgusting. I think of eating a dog, the same way i think of eating a person. My personal preference. I'm not a crusader. If you like to play with a dog and pet it and then subsequently eat it, please be my guest. Me personally, i prefer not to play with my food.

Intelligence? Do a search on intelligent animals, in fact try youtube sef, something should be on there in this regard. You have horses doing maths, pigs doing intelligent things, etc, so that point seems invalid to me. Can't goats also be domesticated? If you argued along the lines of "endangered species" or something of the sort, then fine. If not, I don't get it. And by the way, people do eat monkeys in Nigeria and other part of the world LOL.

And since when was it generally accepted that dog has been man's best friend? What about people in the middle east who would argue with you that their camels are their best friends? Again, it just seems so anglocentric an idea. So you mean in the days of okonkwo of things fall apart, they had dogs running around called chidozie that they kept as pets? LOL
I give up. LOL. Eat Away and may the force be with you

Please i am rounding up my ND2 and i need some project topics on Business Admin, please post some for me, Tanx.
Are you on Crack. Didn't you read the topic before you posted, bloody hell.

@ Sky Blue, cool down. My point is this. Yes i eat goats, yes i eat chickens. Traditionally this has always been the case, but it's primarily based on the level of intelligence of the animal concerned. Dogs guide blind people, they can raise the alarm in a fire, they can be trained to understand commands and they will never leave you if you're hurt. It's the same reason we don't go and shoot monkeys and eat them. Or are you going to justify that as well?

The reason we don't kill and eat each other, is because we have attained the level of intelligence to know that it is wrong to do so. The more we cross that line with other species and justify it, the closer we get to who knows what.

About that incident, how could you possibly know the guy was Igbo? Did you interview him afterwards?

@Topic. Although Dogs are also meat, so are human beings. Dogs have been mans best friend for centuries. If we say it's okay to eat them, next thing we'll be killing each other as the newest delicacy. I can't believe someone will look at a dogs head to check the parts.

That to me is gross. I had several dogs growing up and i loved all of them to death. I'm sorry, but the practise is repulsive

I dont feel H man but whoever is backing him is really SPENDING MONEY. that 3 minutes cost 1mil plus.
In addition, does anyone actually know how to sing anymore without that bloody Autotune T-Pain voice. It is so irritating. I worry about the youngsters in Naija growing up listening to really crap music. MI's rap here was way below par. I'm pretty sure he was paid to do it. He shouldn't blow his legacy before it starts

and that is eventually what is going to kill the industry. It will be reborn, but it will crash first. You can't export a song to the rest of the world with crap lyrics and 80% of naija jams have them. Music is now a biz in Naija for both people with and without talent. It's like formula.

Make a party jam and you'll be fine. But the truth is, all the people that have truely made it, had good Lyrical content in the songs or at least better than most. P Square, 2 Face, 9ice, D'Banj etc

I kinda agree with your point here, but what i'm saying is, what does that say about Naija hiphop. MI's flow is not original. He bites other peoples lyrics and for me, has no swagger. But still, he's better than 90% of other rappers. At least That we know of. Doesn't that worry you?  By rights, we should have at least 20 top MC's fighting for the crown. In a country of 140 million, you're happy to go around saying MI is the best we've got. N**** please.

I've got to agree with dejiariyo on this one, apart from the swipe at Sauce Kid and Tosinaded

MI's hype machine has spammed the whole internet into making us believe he is the best rapper in Nigeria and probably the whole world/universe/ galaxy/ milky way.

Funny, i was talking to my cuz in Nigeria and she never even heard of him. Her question was 'what track of his is popular at the moment?' . . . . .errrr, there is no answer to that because none of his tracks are popular on the street.

On TV, he only has that badly produced and directed  'crowd mentality' video and a few guest appearances that are not particularly good. The knighthouse one and the one with DIPP.

MI's  been out for 5 minutes with no hit records and he is better than everybody else because he can string a couple of sentences together . . . . like ' MI's too ill  like sickness an STD like syphilis' . . . . . Na wa o!!!

The illegal mixtape is garbage and i am surprised that he would  release it so soon after his album dropped. Surely, it should have been the other way round!

I've raised the issue of M.I being a biter several times in posts on NL but the MI hype machine remains silent on that.  Now he wear suits like Naeto C  and thinks he is Kanye West . . . . .Only God will save us!!!!
hahahahahahaha, that is too funny. RapJunkie you're on point. They will kill us with the MI hype machine. SauceKid is living on borrowed time though. If he had released his album already, all this won't be happening. One hit record since 2007 can't last forever.
MI should go and thank his investor and PR people for the work they've done so far. I have to admit, they almost had me singing his praises. But for me, the proof is in the pudding. As public enemy said "don't believe the hype"
Music/RadioRe: M.i.'s Emancipation - Should Mode9 And Ruggedman Hang Their Boots? by audio: 2:59pm On Apr 16, 2009
MI's album is good, but for him to be considered the God of naija hiphop with that album, just one album, says very very little about Naija hiphop. It's by no means a classic and just shows that Naija doesn't have any real MC's.

Why should Mode9 and Rugged retire? Please. All these people on Payola here to start topics should relax. It's so boring. Are there no other MC's In Nigeria?

Tosinaded and Khanye, everyday Mode 9, MI, Mode 9, MI. Don't you have your finger to the pulse? Who is the next guy on the come up. Thats what i'm interested in and i'm sure a lot of people as well.

Why is it when anyone gives a constructive response on this site, all they get in return are insults? Is it because you're incapable of replying intelligently or you know it's true so you try to deflect from the subject matter with insults?

Bottom line. The guy is right. I went out over easter and for all the raves i went to (in London before you ask), i didn't hear one single MI track on the dancefloor or Rugged or Mode for that matter (although saying nobody likes mode 9 is ludicrist), but i heard plenty Nigga Raw and of course SauceKids one and only hit.

I don't agree Nigga Raw is the third best rapper in Naija (I've head much much better), but i agree specifically with what Julian said as quoted

Don't let these forums fool you. On ground, things are very different. 140 million people is a lot. They don't all visit the blogs
Music/RadioRe: Naija Djs And Their Shameful Demands For Bribes! by audio: 1:49pm On Apr 14, 2009
@ topic. the Nigerian music industry is an emerging market, but already, it's being steeped in corruption like everything else. Is nothing exempt? In developed nations, the radio stations pay the artist to play their records, because they use the playlists to sell advertising, which in turn pays the DJ's salary. Lets not forget, the radio stations do pay these DJ's. They are not doing it for free.
We as Nigerians need a major shift in thinking. We condone corruption, even justify it, so it continues from generation to generation.

A Dj is their to entertain his listeners with the latest and hottest jams. If you do this consistently, believe me, the money will come. If people know and recognize that you play tracks on merit, not payola, people will listen to your show for exclusive GOODmusic.
The problem in Nigeria is, nobody wants to build up a reputation and make money. Everybody wants the money right now, so they can floss immediately.

Music/RadioRe: Naija Djs And Their Shameful Demands For Bribes! by audio: 10:48pm On Apr 12, 2009
ElRazur:
Interesting thread. I have heard of this and in some way meet people who have experienced the "out of order demands" from potential artist.

Ideally, no one should be paying a DJ to have their record spin for air play period. Anyone who even tries to give a hint of justification clearly do not know what they are talking about. As with most things that is consumer derived and driven, it should be the forces of demand and supply having a say on what should be play - i.e the consumer should be the one who ultimately have the say directly or indirectly.

Having said that, most things tend to work upside down in Nigeria and there isn't a respect for the rule of law.

Another issue to consider is that most of this so called "Artist" [if they can be called one] are after the fame and money with little or no passion for the Music side of things. MOst want to do it for the Women and VIP treatment.  This wont be a problem per se if the so called Artist have a fan base!

Most of them just hit the studio, without first considering they are even talented - aint no wonder over half of our so called artist are gargabe - no offence. Perhaps focus and emphasis should be laid in cultivating and honing their skills [if they have any] and then building their fan base at the same time.

Just because a couple of close friend tell you that you can rap or sing, do not mean you are talented. Even, if you are, it do not mean people will buy your style - Canibus [rapper] is a good example. He is good, but his rap style is a niche.

The point I am making is that, if someone is good and have massive fan base behind them, then it is guaranteed that DJ are less likely to demand money to play their joint. To break it down in a simple way - If I have a massive fan base BEFORE releasing any major album. fan will be eager and willing to hear me. DJ would have heard about me etc. I am sure you guys can see how this can be a major advantage?

To go back on topic. I personally believe it is wrong to demand money from artist. If things are equal, DJ shouldnt even take that "gift" if it was offered by a coming up artist. Period.
Very well written. I agree totally. Most artists out at the moment have no talent whatsoever.  If i hear another Terry B or K Solo sounding beat with lyrics that make absolutely no sense, i'm going to go mad. It's like a factory. Originality is totally dead.

The DJ's shouldn't be demanding money obviously, but people are now trying to learn how to be DJ's so that they can demand bribes. They see it as a way to get rich. Nigeria is steeped in corruption from head to toe. Nothing is exempt

K16: If you never sabi - top punchline "I'm like a pirate just after a bucaneer slapped his babe, enraged". Might be a dark horse. Like this guy. His style is original and his flow is on point. Liked Ikebe but wasn't too crazy about it. This is more my thing. 3.5/5

Unseen: No Try Me - top punchline. "I'm Unseen, lyrically dope so i get high, off the punchlines and ryhmes i recite in perfect time". Another very original style and flow. Again lyrically on point. Liked his verse on Sabi as well. 3.5/5

Overall, a good start for IKUKU RECORDS. We'll see what happens next. I know Ikebe is on Nigezie, so they've started the Naija push. Lets see what the masses decide
Music/RadioRe: Illbliss Ft. Terry G - Aiye Po Gan (official Video) by audio: 10:53pm On Mar 25, 2009
So Illbliss has joined the Terry G bandwagon. I've heard like 7 versions of this song in varying recycled degrees. Terry G must be cleaning up. In this case though, i don't think the formula works. In an attempt to make a "party track" he has sacrificed his flow and his lyrics are way below his usual standard.
It's like Biggie trying to rap to a FloRida beat. He'll probably still kill it, but Bliss is not biggie. So in this case, it sounds forced and unoriginal, even slightly desperate.
I'm a fan of bliss. I think he has potential, but this is not the way to go. Do what you do best.

Stay true to the game people. A party track is not the be all and end all. Good Video Though. Clarence does it again.
Nice try bliss,  but way below par for me. 2/5
