LOL, just read this and it is totally true. If you can't take criticism, don't be in the music business. Some people will say crap to bring you down, but if the majority are feeling you, then you know you're on to something The truth is, naija does Zombie a lot. Nobody wants to take the risk first. But if one person takes that risk and comes up with something creative that enters worldwide markets, people will spend even 10 million to copy or outdo that one. In the meantime, we have to put up with crap music and payola blog comments. |
beware the age of false prophets |
Everything about this story is suspect. Unless there was an eye witness, where did the exact details of the story come from? Even worse of course is that if it's true, armed robbers can mount a 3 hour operation with no resistance? I mean what's the point of even having a police force. It seems the the only thing there good for is mounting road blocks and killing civilians or becoming pawns for political power brokers. Are Nigeria's problems actually fixable? |
The programming is not bad, but it's not an original beat. You've ripped off the Young Jeezy track I LIKE IT. Stick to original stuff and you should be fine. You know what you're doing. |
ElRazur:Okay. The problem as i see it, is that they get a bad product and then try and use hype to make you think that it's good. But because the market is so saturated now and they're is suddenly a lot of real talent on the scene, a lot of them are getting found out. The core record buying audience in Nigeria is the man on the street. Timaya/bracket/jay martin crowd. Rap is normally for the more enlightened that come on Nairaland everyday asking for download links, but not buying anything. I think that is the reason why MI changed his strategy and used more pangolo beats and made his album more pop. But in a country with a population of 160 million, there is definitely enough room. Even 1% of the population gives you a platinum album |
slimshay:That's a good point. Hype is important. It makes people pay attention when your album comes out. But these days, you've already heard half the album before it is released, so most people have a rough idea what they'll be getting and have made up their minds. When 9ice dropped gongo Aso 1st and then Street credibility after that, most people were already dying to get the album. The music created the hype. Not the other way round. eldee:Eldee, you didn't even understand my point. Please re read earlier comment. ElRazur:Who is talking about Beef now? Music is a business, so it matters how many units are being shifted. Do you know how much money storm spent promoting SauceKids album or Choclate ciy on Jagz of all trades? It's not small money. Next Jesse Jagz album, Alaba will say, after all the hype, it didn't sell and they won't want to pay the big bucks. tosinaded@:As par wetin bros? |
It's not a bad site, but it's just like all the others. You're just reposting what they posted. |
As everyone knows, in the music business, there's a big difference between hype and actual sales. You don't listen to hype on your phone or ipod or in your car. It's the music. Even if a song has the best video (ie Dipp) if the songs are shit, their shit. Take Eminem, never releases any club bangers, but still had the best selling album in the US last year. This is because he makes music that connects directly with the buyer Don't get sucked into this Internet hype. People spreading rumour and 1000 retweets and all that crap. When the time comes to buy the music, people buy the one they really like. I'm not surprised about saucekid. Half the time, i have no idea what he's saying and he's lyrics and songs have very little repeat value (Tosinaded, this is my own personal opinion before you start your normal insults and you're a hater gist), which is essential for album buying as you'll expect to play it more than once. Anyway, until the business is regulated and there is an official chart show, i won't pay too much attention. Alaba buys the album and pays upfront, so the artist has already made his money. Alaba are the ones who really lose or gain in the end financially |
@ poster, come, is this a real building or photoshop? This building definitely deserved to be taxed and the architect put before firing squad. |
The privatization of energy supply should have been done decades ago. A private supplier will be operating purely for profit and you can't make any profit, if there is no supply, so they have to ensure that there is constant billable electricity being generated. However, that is only half of the problem. Vandalization of equipment should be made an offense with a harsh custodial sentence to act as a deterrent + all new buildings should obtain planning permission, to ensure that they can actually adequately obtain power off the current network and not just pay someone to illegally draw power. This is however, an important 1st step. That's if they don't screw it up and chop all the money like they normally do. |
wait oh, how come nobody nominated Frijos? After all the hustle wey the guy hustle. E no good oh. |
A Nairaland mixtape sounds like a good idea. tosinaded@:That's a valid point. Not ridiculous, but valid.Although i like the tracks, i'll have to agree that 1 was a fairer representation of where he is in the game. But then POPE shouldn't be there and neither should PRYSE, but there still great tracks. Last year was the same. Who really knew skales then the way they do now since he signed with E.M.E, but he still made the tape. What i will probably suggest is a tightening of the rules. So each artist gets maybe one main track and feature only, to cover more artists and records. There's no point listing the same artists everybody else is listing. Nairaland has to have the inner track. If K16 blows big in 2011, then the fact he was on this mixtape will mean a lot more. |
rapjunkie:Cool. Well done. Looks good. Don't agree with all of it, but some of the tracks i like are there. I've just skimmed through, Ibime's track is sounding good. Meanwhile to previous posters, stop with the negativity. Even if they put a 1000 tracks inside, you people still won't be happy |
LOL. Make we hear am first now. |
Okay. My Top 10. But 1st, a disclaimer. I don't think 2010 was that good a year for Nigerian Hiphop. Very few stand out moments. Even the great Messiah's MI, Mode 9 and RuggedMan didn't save it for me. These tracks are the ones i liked the most, that i actually listened to. I'm sure they're some great tracks hidden in albums somewhere, but since i didn't hear them, i can't comment. Two tracks also just missed out. I like their hooks, but as soon as the rap starts, i fast forward, which is not a good sign. Anyway, in no particular order, here goes: 1. Olamide - E Ni Duro (Love this track. Can listen to it all day and not get tired, even though i can't understand everything he's saying. Great video too) 2. JahBless feat Lord of Ajasa - Jor ( Saw this on Soundcity and instantly liked it. downloaded it the next day. Still on my Ipod) 3. K16 - Oya (A K16 track that i really liked. Saw him perform it live as well at CARGO. Has strong crossover appeal) 4. RuggedMan feat Chinaydu - Here comes Chinaydu (Banging hiphop track. I'm a bit hot and cold on rugged, but the combo was too much. Great track) 5. K16 feat Unseen - School Daze ( Still on my IPod 8 months later. K16's best track to date for me. Enuff said) 6. Ice Prince feat Brymo - Oleku (No point saying anything. On every playlist everywhere) 7. Pherowshuz - Correct (It's been a while, but over the year, this song has to make my list. Really liked it) 8. Pryse - Kolo (Saw this girl at the Bang Mode 9 show. I think she's Nigeria's best female rapper at the moment. You can quote me) 9. DJ Neptune ft MI, Naeto C and DaGrin - 123 remix (To be honest, not to crazy about this song, but i want it to make the list, cause DaGrin shines on it) 10. Mr Raw Nwanne feat Ransome, Minista Busta and Phyno - Turu Ugo ( One of the best ibo rap collaborations i've heard. Ransome kills it) So there you have it. These are the ones i want to enter. Listen for yourself and see if you agree with me. |
eldee:LOL, forum politics. I don't have poverty mentality, but if i had 100,000 dollars to spare, i know what i'll be doing with it. If he earned the money legitimately, and decided to spend it bringing Rick Ross (not Justin Beiber or Willow Smith or anyone remotely even more suitable), then he's an idiot. But hey, that's his choice. It's his money. But my problem is, i'm sure it's looted money. Money that can be used to help the life of ordinary Nigerians, who don't have a pot to piss in. But i'll bow out of this discussion now. Nigerians only think about Money. It's their God. Nothing else seems to matter. I'm sure in a couple of years, Wikileaks will drop the story on who it was and you'll see for yourself. |
Mobinga:Possible, but unlikely |
eldee:Eldee's way of thinking is a pointer to everything that is wrong with Nigeria. Nobody who legitimately earned 100,000 dollars will blow it on bringing Rick Ross to a 10years olds birthday party. The money is obviously looted. I don't know how old Eldee is, but i'm assuming he's a young guy. The next generation. Nigeria truly has no future. Very sad |
@ Basseti, do you live in America? |
Where is the electricity to power this project going to come from? Or is it Eko Atlantic Generator City? |
Seconded. One of the best tracks off Tribute to the South. RIDE is pretty good too. A bit pop, but i like the football punchlines |

If I don't know means I'm not meant to know? Are you for real? They steal our money, go to war, commit atrocities and because I'm not in that "level", I should close my eyes and shut my ears? It's my country too. I voted them in. If I don't like what's been done, I should be able to cry out. If I don't have info, how will all that happen? Abeg, ignorance na disease o. I'm sorry, but whoever made that comment (for me by me i think) is an absolute self-servicer. If you don't know, means you don't need to know My God, how brainless can Nigerians be. Fela will be turning in his grave. That Zombie record makes more sense today than when he wrote it all those years ago.You need to know, because Politicians are elected by you, to protect your interests and run your country. They are not Gods above the law. This wikileaks saga has shown how the world really works. Not all the crap we watch on the privately owned News channels. As far as i'm concerned, he's a hero. Nigeria is going to the pits, no lights for Decades, people stealing money by the billions and some slowpoke makes a comment like this? God punish you. |
Reference:What an excellent comment. Thoughtful and progressive. You be correct guy. If only people like you were in Government running the country, i guarantee things will be better. |
pebs2007:Gbam!! |
Marriage is based on mutual respect. Nobody should hit the other under any circumstances. If you feel you need to start getting physical, it's time for a divorce. A man should not hit a woman under any circumstances. It's a cowardly and shameful act and should be frowned upon in the strongest possible terms. |
04kaa:Please stop all this hating and enemies talk now. It's too much. This forum is actually helping the guy. So if anyone doesn't talk like a Zombie, he is now a hater? This is quite bad. It is a big deal because to make real money in the music business, you have to go international. It's a well established fact. You have to look at the big picture. He can't even perform this song abroad, because if the se7en guys record company hear of it, they can shut the show down. Please encourage originality. Inspiration and plagirism are not the same thing. Look at 9ice for example. The real deal. An artist i truely respect. |No photocopy. |
Lentini1:Any small thing, they start calling hater this hater that. Sampling is nothing new, it's allowed, no one is disputing that. BUT YOU MUST OBTAIN CLEARANCE FROM THE ARTIST YOU'RE SAMPLING if you plan to sell you record legally abroad and avoid lawsuits. Please talk intelligently. Now that this situation has been exposed. EME should work towards obtaining clearance from se7en for the portions of the song sampled/copied. The song is a good song, that can go far. It will be a shame for it to fall because of something like this. |
Please, please, this is what's killing the industry in Nigeria. Small mindedness and people like you guys who talk without thinking. What you are basically saying, is that Wizkid can only blow in Nigeria. Have you stopped to think what will happen if Holla at your Boy becomes popular outside of Africa? He will be sued to high heaven and his international career will be over before it starts. There's a big difference between stealing a harmony or something that sounds similar, to stealing the Harmony and LYRICS AS WELL. If you're an artist, write your own song. Don't steal someone else's song that they worked hard for and shot video and featured Lil Kim on and then pass it off as your own original work. Or at least acknowledge the Se7en guy for his efforts. Na wah for una. |
The track is called GIRLS. It's by a korean artist named se7en. This is the youtube link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRsILQP_O04&feature=related. I don't know how to post the video. He stole huge portions of Holla at your boy from this record. He even copied the same lyrics. Very disappointing. |
Come on, are things so bad now that we can't even sympathise for someone that got robbed at gunpoint? My parents were robbed in a similar manner (less the discount) and my mum is still traumatized by the experience till this day. The robbers are the enemy here not her. Don't get it twisted please. |
rapjunkie:Looks like it. How was K16's set? |

My God, how brainless can Nigerians be. Fela will be turning in his grave. That Zombie record makes more sense today than when he wrote it all those years ago.
