ibkaye:In all fairness ibkaye, i think you should stop commenting here. If Sky B is your standard, you should leave discussions like this to the grown folk. Okay. No vex wengewenge:K16 is not a punchline rapper. He is more into the storytelling thing. If you listen to most commercial rap (from Yankee), you will notice that they're not trying to run 100 metres with punchlines. It's more about telling a story or making a statement. And even when they drop punchlines, it's for effect, not just one after the other after the other. Everybody can't be the same. We need variety |
ibkaye:I don't think you'll ever be drawn to be honest. You can't like everybody. If you don't like OYA and Free ME JOR (in my opinion, the 2 best rap records i've heard this year.), then i'ts unlikely you ever will. One is a party track, one is a nod your header. His flow is completely unique, so if you don't like the flow, you won't like anything he's doing. That is of course, unless there is something else you haven't already mentioned. |
wengewenge:ofo, you are now acting like a hater (a word i don't use lightly). For once, everyone has agreed that K16 has done well and brought out a banger, but you are still yabbing the guy. You are entitled to your opinion of course, but if you're missing unseen, dont take it out on K16 @obinodmx, he does raise a good point though. Where is unseen? Was feeling the guys joints as well. reminder [flash=640,385] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_b_aFObfobc&hl=en_GB&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>[/flash] |
rapjunkie:Damn, co-sign. Dude is on some busta/twista s*** in pidgin. Really feeling that one. |
Rapjunkie, you beat me to post the link. This track is pure fire. I really mean it. My best track this year. I say this with no prejudice. Finally people will see his talent. |
Iyabo is definitely a stand out for me. Welcome to Nairaland DaBlaze. Good post. I took a break, but now i'm back. |
N25,000 is too much for a pair of sneakers. That's above £100.00. I lawd his enteprenaurial spirit, but he has to bring the price down if he wants to attract any serious business. Anything above N10,000 is too much. A new product in a saturated market place and he doesn't have the same brand power as someone like D'Banj or maybe MI. He needs a rethink. |
Mr Junkie, we've had our differences, but i just wanted to say well done on actually managing to put this together. Most people on this forum blow hot air, but at least you said you'll do it and you did. Good publicity for Nairaland, the artists and of course, yourself. A win win all round. |
frijos:Well i can see that i haven't missed much on Nairaland. Lol. Still the same old off point gibberish. The hiatus continues. |
We need Jerry Rawlings to provide the Ghanian Solution. |
Until i see a TV interview, i'm not convinced. I see actors doing perfect imitations on TV everyday. A phone interview organized by the very people telling us he's still alive sounds as contrived as hell. His puppet masters need more time to milk the country. Once that's done, they'll break the news. Whenever i think Nigeria can sink no lower, it always proves me wrong. God help us |
Good Effort Junkie. Mixtape is solid too. |
Saw this on Nigeezie. At first i thought it was a soundtrack for a Nollywood movie where they tell the whole story in the song. After about a minute, i realized this was like a proper record. Very off-putting. He cheated on his wife and made his house girl pregnant and now he wants God to help him? Call me old fashioned, but if this song becomes a hit, i will loose all faith in naija music. What will we have next? I raped my friends sister and she wants to put me in jail, oh lord help me. |
one of naija's most underrated. Wish he had used more locations, but still a very good video |
slimshay:i wonder oh |
@ Topic For some reason, someone is paying for a huge negative viral campaign against P-Square. Making sure the blog topics and comments are all leaning to the dark side. Personally, i don't think it will work. The man on the street in Nigeria doesn't really care what Blog world is saying, in fact any true music buyer should not be swayed by hearsay. The song is as catchy as they come, i personally love it. The video is different from 80% of the crap currently in circulation. With this record, they have shown that they can offer the complete packgage. Catchy AfroPop with a great video to match. Fortunately, i hear the track is already a hit in Nigeria, so all this hateration i think is in vain After all, the most you guys can offer them is a request for a download link. It's not like anyone buys records here anyway |
Good Reply. Once again i agree with most of what you're saying. The track was below standard generally, considering the fact it had 4 of raps supposed heavyweights on it. M's verse at the end made me wake up i guess. Maybe the artists on the collabo were wrong. Too many laid back flows. Remember flavour in your ear rmx, by Craig Mack. Biggie, Craig Mack, Busta, LL Cool J, Rampage. So many contrasting styles. So sweet. These days, all the flows sound the same. |
@ Bamstyle While all you say is true, M's verse is the only one i remembered. Flow/delivery is almost 60% of a rappers skill. And M's flow is unique. Doesn't matter what you're saying, if i don't like the way you're saying it, you've lost me. The reason Biggie is heralded as one of the greatest of all time is because his delivery was as sweet as what he was saying. I don't have time to be rewinding videos or CD's to bask in the glow of some line a rapper said when the bass is almost drowning everything out. Besides, lines like "labels want my name beside the X like Malcom" don't mean shit to me. What does that even mean? I'm not going to buy a CD for that. Reference Notorious again: Tracks like Who shot ya opening line "who the hell is this, paging me at 5:43 in the morning/crack of dawning/now i'm yawning, immediately, i'm interested and what to know what happens next. All these "i'm cleverer than you punchlines" are like coke. Might satisfy for the moment, but you feel hollow afterwards. Bring back the old school man. Rap is dying |
No offence Ofokasibe, i'm sure the guy is hot on the freestyle, but i'm tired of freestyles personally. I want to hear completed records. I only rate rappers that can make hot records. Head nod beat, Hot verse and hooks to match. That's the difference between the men and the boys |
Heard this joint on FB. Very disappointing. Mixing was well below par and the beat sounded like Primo's 2 week old leftovers from 1995. Didn't even sound mastered. Mode 9 is single handedly killing his own legacy. I know you come on NL, so i'm going to speak directly, with no Bias. You need to make a comeback album, that will re-establish your poisition in Nigerian Hip Hop history. Supress the need for instant gratification and do some serious work, behind the scenes Work with up and coming heat, producers, rappers. Step outside your comfort zone. Challenge yourself Lose your current posse and hangers on. THEY ARE NOT HELPING YOU. You constantly say you're in it for the love of the game and not the money. Fine. But a good album will not go amiss. Rappers are judged by flow, wordplay and hit records. Right now, you're way down in the pecking order. I'll probably get the normal predictable barrage of "you're a hater", you're this , you're that, from you're viral (not helping you in anyway constructive just want download links fanbase), but i'm writing this as a hip hop fan, without bias. You can take it or leave it, but i felt i had to say it. I'm out. |
Beat suits the song. A song doesn't have to have a name brand producer to be good. Jagz is over rated anyway. How many hit records has he produced? Maybe if you'd said Frabz or Cobhams or K-Solo then that will be different. Lots of events on the 2nd in London, but i won't be missing this one. The Facebook group said Un-Seen and Taiya Soul are also performing, so should be on point. Make we see how far |
If you're still asking questions like this, you're obviously not ready. Go back to the drawing board |
He might need to change his name then, cause there is already a Nigerian Rapper named Skills in London and he already has a big fan base. It will just confuse things. |
This is the definitive article on this topic. Don't sleep on it. http://www.africanhiphop.com/africanhiphopradio/naija-nigerian-80s-rap-on-vinyl/ |
@ Topic Saw the video for this yesterday. Hands down, Eminem slaughtered all the other MC's on the track. He even had slaughterhouse in his corner (not that that had anything to do with it). Drake is aiight, but personally, i don't find him to be the messiah or whatever. Kanye and Wayne (Very overrated) shouldn't have bothered. They were there in name only. Especially Wayne. Frankly, all MC's really sound the same to me these days. It's all money this, money that, Swagga this, swagga that. All trying to outdo each other with punchlines, without actually saying anything tangible. All they're flows are like derivaties of the same gene pool. Nobody is really doing anything different. All instantly forgettable. At least M's flow is his own. No one has been able to imitate it or duplicate it. That says a lot. |
Don't see what the fuss is all about personally, but here are some more tracks i found. Enjoy http://www.notjustok.com/2009/09/03/skales-goosebumps-bo-se-se-mi/ On a side note, he needs to get his PR game up. It's not just about having rap skills these days. Not if you want to make any money anyway. |
lalaboi:Very well said Lala, lol |
