For decades, the stretch of road connecting Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos to Oshodi was a national disgrace. The road, which is a gateway into the country, offered first time visitors a very uncomplimentary first impression of Nigeria. From one administration to the other, the road remained in an atrocious condition – one that required urgent attention in order to salvage the nation’s image. Sadly, the resuscitation of the road, which falls within the purview of the federal government, was completely ignored. However, in May 2017, and with facilitation by Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, the federal government finally gave the approval for the Lagos State government to commence a total reconstruction of the road. In the spirit of the regeneration and urbanization of Lagos state by the Ambode-led administration, work begun on the project in September 2017. The project will see the transformation of the road from 4 lanes to 10 lanes from Oshodi to the International Airport. It would also feature an interchange and flyover that would drop commuters to the Local Airport. Work is ongoing on the road. The work is being handled by the construction firm of Hitech Construction Company Limited. Somi is one of the housemates of the Big Brother show. He was driving a Toyota Camry often referred to as ‘spider’ or ‘muscle’ when it happened. He made it out safe and sound. He made a video after the accident and claimed the accident is worse that it looks. He also said it would have been something else if he didn’t manage to control the car. From what I can see, the oil sump is gone. https://autojosh.com/ex-big-brother-naija-housemate-somi-involved-in-an-accident/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove Marpol Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy Seun

The A-Class Sedan will be launched at the end of 2018. The four-door sedan car has a wheelbase of 2729 millimetres and the proportions of a dynamic and at the same time compact sedan car with short overhangs at the front and rear. It is at the top of its segment with regard to rear headroom. In addition, the sedan model has the familiar A-Class virtues. These include modern, efficient engines, the high level of safety thanks to state-of-the-art driving assistance systems with S-Class functions, and the intuitively operated and learning MBUX – Mercedes-Benz User Experience infotainment system. With a Cd value of 0.22 and a frontal area of 2.19 m², the new A-Class Sedan has the lowest aerodynamic drag of all production vehicles worldwide and thereby defends the world record of the CLA Coupé. The new A-Class Sedan will be built in Aguascalientes, Mexico, and Rastatt, Germany, and was developed in Sindelfingen, Germany. The new model will be presented to the general public for the first time at the Paris Motor Show (4 to 14 October 2018). Mercedes-Benz already presented the A-Class L Sedan at this year’s Auto China in Beijing in April. This sedan model was developed exclusively as a long-wheelbase version for the Chinese market and is also produced there exclusively. “Following the successful start of the A-Class, things at Mercedes-Benz are happening in quick succession with regard to the new family of compacts. In response to the wish of many customers, we now offer the A-Class for the first time also as a sedan car”, says Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing and Sales. “Anyone looking for a compact, sporty sedan with a separate boot now has a new attractive alternative. It will enable us to win new customers for Mercedes-Benz“. The A-Class established today’s compact car segment of Mercedes-Benz in 1997 and since then more than six million compact car models have already been delivered worldwide. The A-Class Sedan as the seventh model further expands the range of compact cars from Mercedes-Benz. A logical addition, because with the C, E and S-Class, Mercedes-Benz has more premium sedan competence than most other manufacturers. https://autojosh.com/all-new-mercedes-a-class-sedan-revealed-photos/

The Inland waterways, curiously, is an unexplored mode of mass transit that has the potential to decongest the chaotic Lagos roads. In a megacity, where 25% of the landmass is covered by water, the Inland waterways offers a an effective alternative for mass transit in Lagos. This mode of transportation also has the potential to save the state of valuable man-hour wasted annually in road traffic gridlocks. Curiously, successive governments in Lagos state have ignored this option. In fairness, a certain administration demonstrated some measure of commitment to explore water transport as an alternative means of mass transit in Lagos. It was the administration of Alhaji Lateef Jakande. During the Second Republic, Governor Jakande introduced in the state the “Baba Kekere” and “Ita Faji” ferries. The introduction of these ferries brought a new lease of life to people in many riverine communities along the state’s coastline, especially around Mile 2 to Marina, Ipakodo and Ebute in Ikorodu. From then, up until the late 80s, the water transport sector hit about three million passenger traffic yearly. Sadly, from the 80s till date, the waterways traffic dropped to about one million passenger per annum, with hardly any presence whatsoever in goods/cargo freighting. That feats achieved by Lateef Jakande in the ‘80s have not been replicated. Then comes Governor Akinwunmi Ambode. The Ambode administration have demonstrated some interest in investing in water transport sector. The current governor of Lagos state vowed to develop the sector in the overall interest of the state. Over the years, authority over the inland waterways rested on the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA). This Federal Government-own institution regulated and supervised activities on the Inland waterways in Lagos. Part of their responsibilities includes licensing private institutions and governments to build jetties, ferries and boats. They are also vested with the power to license private individuals and institutions to use ferries on the waterways. It is also part of their responsibility to ensure security and safety on the waterways. Of late, the Lagos state government have been locked in legal battles with NIWA to claim authority over inland waterways. The process has been stalled by different court decisions. That notwithstanding, Governor Ambode is currently involved in creating and implementing standards and regulations that will be executed by the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LSWA). Some of these regulatory activities will include licensing, registration and enforcement of vessels plying the State’s waterways with a strict adherence to compliance. The Ambode-led government has concluded a Master Plan which has identified 30 routes across the State which according to her, have been earmarked for channelization, dredging, lighting and demarcation specifically for water transportation. Only time will tell how serious the Ambode administration is to develop the water transport sector. https://autojosh.com/water-transport-in-lagos-the-great-potential/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove Marpol Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy Seun

On Friday last week, Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, made an unscheduled visit to the Apapa, Lagos. He arrived at Apapa in a chopper. The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, and senior naval and police officers accompanied him on the visit. The purpose of the visit was to attend to what has become a national embarrassment. It was the issue of the traffic gridlock at the Expressways leading to Apapa caused by stationary trailers. The VP was there to assess the situation. The parked trailers had made movements in and around the axis difficult for many road users in recent days. While he was there, the VP ordered a 72-hour joint operation to clear the gridlock around the Apapa axis caused by stationary trailers. In order to achieve this objective, he directed relevant government agencies to immediately embark on the decongestion of the popular road, leading to the Apapa seaport. As at today, Thursday 26 – over 120 hours after the directive was issued by the Vice President – a long trail of parked trailers are still seen on some expressways, notably the Western Avenue/Ojuelegba axis and the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway. Not long after his election as the governor of Lagos state, Gov. Ambode approved the installation of Wire-mesh fencing on medians of major expressways around Lagos state. Installing Wire-mesh fences became necessary in order to ensure safety and orderliness on the roads. With these Wire-mesh fences, hawkers no longer have a field day on Lagos highways, just as pedestrians do not cross the highway indiscriminately like before. Instead, pedestrians are left with no choice than to use the pedestrian bridges, walkways or other designated places. Also, with the fences, pickpockets, robbers and other criminals who emerge from nowhere and snatch valuables from unsuspecting pedestrians before disappearing into their hideouts have also being prevented from operating easily. Indeed, these fences have been proving to be useful for the purposes that they were designed to achieved. However, the enemies of progress are at it. Vandals have begun a gradual destruction of the fences. The activities of these environmental offenders can be noticed at locations such as Ojota to Ketu, from Berger on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to Ojodu Abiodun. Oshodi, Alapere and some other busy areas, which have these fences. Sadly, there does not seem like there is any attempt by the authorities to replace the vandalized sections of the fences. Hopefully, these wire-mesh fences will not go the same way of other public facilities in our society that ultimately suffer from lack of maintenance. https://autojosh.com/ambodes-wire-mesh-fence-on-expressways-are-being-vandalized-see-photos/

Posterity will remember Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode as one state governor that invested massively in the development and resuscitation of road and mass transit infrastructure in Lago state. He has built roads, flyovers, pedestrians’ bridges, slip roads, laybys, bus stops, bus terminals, etc. He is also aggressively working to commence the operation of the very long overdue Lagos metroline. Indeed, the man – Ambode – has revamped almost every area of road transport and has made mass transit less cumbersome. Almost every resident of the state have benefitted – one way or the other – from the road reform project of the Ambode administration. However, a group of Lagos residents are set to further benefit from the Ambode road reform project. They are residents of the Magodo 2-CBD-Alausa-Secretariat axis of the state. For years, residents of that axis had yearned for a pedestrian bridge to enable pedestrians navigate both sides of the ever busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway section of the area. In the past, many people have lost their lives there in an attempt to cross the road. In response to their yearnings, the indefatigable Governor Ambode graciously approved the construction of a pedestrian Bridge at that location. The pedestrian bridge is designed to link the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, with Magodo Phase 2 gate on CMD Road along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Work on the bridge is currently at the concluding stage. The Pedestrian Bridge is being constructed by the the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC). The redesigned and refreshed 2019 Honda Pilot is finally here. It brings with it a long list of upgrades to Honda’s award-winning 8-seat SUV. The numerous changes include more aggressive exterior styling, an available new hands-free power tailgate, substantial powertrain refinements, major upgrades to available connected-car technology, an available new Display Audio touchscreen system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, and a volume knob. The 2019 Pilot also adopts the Honda Sensing suite of advanced driver-assistive and safety technology as standard in all trims. EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR DESIGN The 2019 Honda Pilot’s updated exterior reflects its off-road capabilities without losing what makes Pilot a perennial favorite in the midsize SUV segment. The front sports an aggressive new front fascia with standard LED low-beam headlights, while the rear features new taillights, a new bumper, and chrome accents. The new front bumper incorporates larger fog light housings, fully integrated into the bumper, giving the 2019 Pilot a more aggressive look. A redesigned grille features a bold interpretation of the Honda “flying wing” grille design, with its chrome band extending above the headlights. Further emphasizing the off-road aggressiveness is a new “skid” garnish on the lower portion of the front bumper. A hands-free power tailgate is available for the first time on Pilot on Touring and Elite grades. With the remote key fob in their pocket or handbag, the driver simply kicks their foot under a designated area of the rear bumper. The tailgate then opens without the owner needing to use their hands–very useful for occasions when their hands are full. The 2019 Honda Pilot has a starting price of N11.4million. https://autojosh.com/the-all-new-2019-honda-pilot-is-finally-here-photos/

When taking a ride in a danfo, the last thing you should expect is comfort. It would be delusional to expect to be comfortable in a typically overloaded bus with dusty wooden (pako) seats, cantankerous co-passengers, the ever-present body odour of the discourteous driver and conductor, the noisy engine, etc. However, the very least you expect is a legroom – or a space for your feet. But it is sometimes never the case. Instead, the spot that was designed for you to place your feet on has an obstruction. It is the presence of the danfo’s spare-tyre. Now, you are left with no choice than to suspend your feet awkwardly on the danfo’s spare tyre. Doesn’t this annoy you? https://autojosh.com/when-you-board-a-danfo-does-this-annoy-you-photo/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove Marpol Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy Seun
