Car TalkCheckout The Evolution Of The Rolls-royce (see Photo) by autojosh(op): 2:22pm On May 16, 2018
https://i64.tinypic.com/v82ded.jpg

Charles Stewart Royce was into mechanical and electrical business, while Sir Frederick Henry Rolls was one of Britain’s pioneer car dealers.

These Britons met in Manchester in 1904. What brought them together was a car built by Royce. The car, Royce 10, was a two-cylinder car Royce made in 1904.

Though Rolls preferred three- and four-cylinder cars, however, he was impressed by the Royce-10. He then promised Royce that he would take as many Royce 10 that Royce could make.

An agreement was reached by the duo. The agreement stipulated that four models of Royce’s two-cylinder cars will be made, and all of them will bear the name, Rolls-Royce.

The agreement also gave the exclusive right for the sale of the cars to Rolls.

The first Rolls-Royce two-cylinder car was presented at the Paris Salon at the end of 1904.

In 1906, the two entrepreneurs formed Rolls-Royce Limited.

Between 1914 and 1973, The Company, Rolls-Royce, also ventured into the business of manufacturing aircraft engines.

Their first production factory was in Derby. The factory was designed by Royce. Production started in 1908.

Due to its success and the demand for their product, a second factory was established in n Springfield, Massachusetts, in the United State. However, the US factory was closed in 1931 as a result of the Great Depression

Ever since then, the British brand, Rolls-Royce, grew to become one of the world’s most famous luxury cars manufacturers.

In 1931, Rolls-Royce acquired Bentley. Bentley’s factory in Cricklewood was closed down and the production was moved to Rolls-Royce’s facilities in Derby. Vickers plc would later acquire Bentley from Rolls-Royce on August 1980.

Until the Second World War, Bentley was kind of a sporty version of Rolls-Royce. After the end of the Second World War until 2002, the standard Bentley and Rolls-Royce models were virtually identical.

In 1998, BMW Group bought the rights to produce Rolls-Royce motor cars. With the change came a brand new manufacturing facility: the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood, West Sussex, England, United Kingdom. It was here that an exciting new chapter would begin.

Since 2003, the Rolls-Royce cars are produced under the name, Rolls-Royce Motors Cars Limited.

Car TalkCheckout This Nigeria-made Mobile Mechanic Truck (photo) by autojosh(op): 9:18am On May 16, 2018
Seeing this huge assemblage of different gadgets on this truck can get one confused about what it really is.

The truck is a mobile mechanic workshop. Or more appropriately, it is a mobile mechanic truck.

The truck is built to integrate as many devices and equipment needed to effect mechanical, electrical and welding works on a distressed vehicle.

This mobile mechanic truck was one of the vehicles showcased during the recently concluded 13th Lagos International Motor Fair.

This particular truck is fitted with a power generator, a forklift, compressor, oil drain, welding machine, etc.

According to Chukwuemeka Okoro, the Sales Analyst, the truck can be custom-built to have as many gadgets and equipment fitted on it.

The truck is built in Nigeria by of Asia-Africa International FZE. Their assembly plant is situated at Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

CelebritiesCheckout Timaya’s Fleet Of Expensive Cars by autojosh(op): 1:41pm On May 15, 2018
Enitimi Alfred Odom, better known as Timaya, has got no chills when it comes to acquiring expensive cars.

Indeed, when he relocated from Port Harcourt to Lagos he probably never knew he would hit it this big.

Today, the “Egberi Papa 1 Of Bayelsa” is living the champagne lifestyle. Clearly, the game has been good to the multiple award-winning “Dem Mama” crooner. He has amassed for himself a considerable amount of fame and fortune.

The proofs are there for all to see: mansions, foreign travels, international collabos, awards – and of course, a fleet of choice automobiles.

Born on 15th August 1980, Timaya – a car lover – has over the years amassed for himself not a few choice cars.

Some cars that the award-winning musicians has acquired over the years include:

-Silver colored Bentley – said to be worth about N72million;
-2 Range Rovers – both estimated to cost about N17million – N19million;
-Mercedes Benz G55 AMG – estimated to cost about 55 million Naira;
-Lexus – conservatively estimated to cost about N13million;
-Mercedes Benz Gle – estimated to cost about N20million.

Surely, Timaya is enjoying the good life.

Autojosh presents some photos of Timaya and some of his expensive cars.

CelebritiesCheckout Anthony Joshua’s Car Collection by autojosh(op): 11:54am On May 15, 2018
Anthony Oluwafemi Olaseni Joshua is not like the regular boxing champion. He is one champion that loves the simple life.

The current unified world heavyweight champion has demonstrated that he is not the flamboyant or the exhibitionist type. His humility shines through.

This bricklayer turned boxer boasts of a dozen endorsement deals with major brands such as Armour, Jaguar, Beats, StubHub and Audemars Piguet. Still, he lives with his mum in a council flat that he bought for her.

In a world where champion boxers have a reputation for a showy and ultra-lavish lifestyle, Anthony Joseph prefers a rather moderate existence.

In 2017, Forbes ranked Anthony Joshua as one of the “World’s Highest-Paid Athletes”. That same year, he was ranked No. 1 in the “Highest Paid Boxers” category. Pundits are speculating that he has the prospect of being the first boxing billionaire.

Interestingly, for someone who is worth over £85million, all these are not exactly reflected in his garage.

Culture5 Nigerian Monarchs That Own A Rolls Royce (see Photos) by autojosh(op): 10:07am On May 15, 2018
Saheed Ademola Elegushi (Kusenla III) – the Oba of Ikateland.

Oba Saheed Elegushi had his coronation as the Elegushi of Ikate Kingdom, Kusenla II, on the 27th of April 2010. He was, at the time, the youngest monarch in Lagos state at 34 years.

The Master’s Degree-holder from the Manchester University, prior to his coronation, served in the Lagos state government as a Senior Special Assistant in-charge of Special duties.

The fun-loving traditional ruler, who is regarded as the closest friend to the Oni of Ife, rakes in millions daily as income from the popular Elegushi beach in Lagos.

The young monarch owns a custom made bulletproof Rolls Royce Gushi.

https://i65.tinypic.com/u1lxc.jpg

Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan – The Olugbo of Ugbo

The Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom in Ondo State is a financial enigma.

In March 2014 Forbes estimated his net worth as US$300 million. He was thus ranked by Forbes magazine as the second richest King in Africa and the richest in Nigeria. In the ranking, in Africa, he came second behind King Mohammed VI of Morocco.

The Oba of Olugbo also has a reputation as the first black person in the world to buy the 2014 model of Bentley automobile.

On January 14, 2014, in an interview with Daily Post, he said “I have a $1 million watch, I use the same type of car like the Queen of England”

Indeed, the Olugbo of Ugbo has a custom built 2012 Rolls Royce similar to one owned by Queen Elizabeth II.

The Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom is the Chairman of Obat Oil.

Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi – the Ooni of Ife

Since his coronation, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi , the Ooni of Ife, has demonstrated tirelessness in expanding the influence of the Yoruba culture and to unite it with other cultures and ethnicities.

Clearly, the Ooni has shown that he is not one who believes in sedentary rulerships. The highly revered Yoruba monarch, rather than merely issue royal instructions and proclamations, sometimes finds the need to travel to far-flung locations to get things accomplished.

The debonair Ife monarch, amongst several exotic cars, also owns an ultra-luxury 2011 model Rolls-Royce Phantom .

For a monarch whose style of dressing; comportments and choice of stylish paraphernalia all exude opulence and royalty the Rolls-Royce Phantom is indeed a befitting means of transportation.

Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II – the Emir of Kano

Owning Rolls Royces is almost an entrenched tradition of the Kano Emirate. Long before it became mainstream, the Kano Emirate have been acquiring Rolls Royces.

On February 27, 1956, when the freshly-crowned Queen Elizabeth visited Nigeria, she was chauffeured around in a Rolls Royce Wraith loaned and made available for the visiting English monarch by the Kano Emirate.

In September 2016, the maverick former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, in keeping with that tradition, bought for himself a few Rolls Royces. It includes a brand new 2016 Rolls Royce Phantom.

Upon purchase, the well-respected Emir shared the picture of the new car Rolls Royce on social media .

On his official instagram page, the Emir captioned the shared pictures thus: “Has just been added”.

The price of the 2016 Rolls-Royce Phantom is estimated at about N150 million ($417,825).

Oba Ewuare II Ogidigan, Oba of Benin Kingdom

The former Nigerian ambassador to Italy, Spain, Angola and Sweden is one monarch with demonstrable swag.

Prior to his ascension to the throne of one of Africa’s most celebrated Kingdoms, he excelled in private business, specifically in the oil sector.

The Edo monarch, who has earned an early reputation as a “disciplinarian Oba” with zero tolerance for land-grab in his kingdom, shortly before his coronation on the 20 October, 2016, acquired for himself a 2016 Rolls-Royce Phantom.

The luxury vehicle was launched at the thanksgiving ceremony, which held at Holy Arousa Cathedral, Akpakpava street, Benin City.

TravelWho Is The Real Nigerian King Of The Road? by autojosh(op): 9:16am On May 15, 2018
With a population estimated to be over 190 million, the need to move the Nigerian populace around has produced a vibrant transport sector.

The variety of vehicles dedicated to differing usages and routes has in turn produced segmented drivers, with each class of drivers being a master of his own particular game.

The road network might not be impressive, but the drivers of the various vehicles that daily ply our roads are definitely worth a second look.

Who commands the title of the Nigerian king of the road?

Here are the contenders..

The Trailer driver.

https://i68.tinypic.com/2l91p3r.jpg

Since the railway sector has witnessed diminishing utility by patrons due to the limited infrastructure and resources, the major means of bulk cargo movement has been the articulated truck/trailer.

https://i64.tinypic.com/ehnbcn.jpg

Their trucks are big and powerful. Their drivers are not strangers to bad roads and harsh environment.
Whether it is 33,000 litres of petrol or fully laden 40 foot containers, they’ll move it to your chosen destination.
The drivers are deceptively mild looking, but legend has it that they are one of the toughest drivers on the road.

Inter-city bus drivers

https://i63.tinypic.com/6yky06.jpg
We call them luxurious buses. They transport people, lots of people, every day. Their passengers might be lucky enough to obtain some of the promised luxuries. But these drivers are daily exposed to long distance driving, night driving is all in a day’s job to them. They are no strangers to bad roads, long hours and passengers’ idiosyncrasies.
At night, when passengers may be lolling their heads in sleep. It is doubly reassuring to know that capable hands are piloting the bus.

Intra-City Minibus Drivers.

https://i64.tinypic.com/2ll28h4.jpg
A trip between two cities by commercial bus will end at the motor park.
This is where the minibus driver takes over. He knows his route well, He needs to drive fast to achieve his daily target. He can shout and he can fight. He is familiar with the antics of law enforcement officers and touts. His bus is his office and his kingdom, He is always in a hurry and is quick to avail that fact to other road users. His brawn is legendary.

The Neighbourhood Taxi Driver

https://i66.tinypic.com/2md189g.jpg

He is very familiar with most destinations. What he lacks in finese, he makes up for in experience. If you are his customer he likely knows your home, your office, your wife’s office, your favorite food and your kid’s school. On bad days, you could owe him. He is perceived by some to be respectable and that he cares for you more than any other driver.

The Uber/Taxify driver

https://i63.tinypic.com/6eozte.jpg

The internet’s taxi. All you need to book a ride is a phone app, and in a comparatively short time, one of the numerous cars on the fleet will be dispatched to you.
The Uber rider is polite, drives a clean car and conveys you in relative comfort. The added benefit is that the app company has checked him out and are constantly monitoring the quality of his service delivery.
He utilizes GPS navigation and has most likely been to the place you are going to and other places you haven’t been to.

And the winner is…
Folks, Autojosh is not the judge or jury. You are. Let’s hear your opinions.

Road safety education will soon be introduced in public primary and secondary schools in Plateau state.
This is according to the Plateau Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC).

Mrs Pat Emeordi, the Sector Commander of FRSC in Plateau state, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Jos.

According the Sector Commander, the initiative is aimed at inculcating safety education in children with a view to increasing their level of awareness.

“The idea behind this initiative is to catch them young and to enable them understand the fundamentals and rudiments of safety education.

“We are already talking with the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and the state Ministry of Education to ensure the implementation of the initiative.

“So, by the special grace of God, we shall soon start the programme in Plateau,” he said.

Emeordi explained that the safety education would be infused into core subjects like English Language, Mathematics, Science and Technical Education, among others.

“Government doesn’t need to employ new teachers to teach safety education, but teachers of these core subjects will be the ones to do it.

“We shall train these teachers who will in turn teach the students in the schools,’’ she added.

The Sector Commander called on the state government to support the initiative and the commission in its bid to rid the road of accidents.

CelebritiesDavido’s Private Jet: See How Much It Costs To Own And Maintain A Challenger 605 by autojosh(op): 10:16am On May 10, 2018
Buying a private jet no be beans. Even the super-wealthy cringe at the idea.

Some super-wealthy individuals, who actually might be able to afford one, do not consider it a wise financial decision.

Sean “P Diddy” Combs, the Forbes-listed hip-hop mogul, not too long ago admitted that he could not afford owning a complete private plane. Well, he does actually own a wing of a private jet. He co-owns it with someone else.

It was recently rumoured that mega-star Celine Dion’s Bombardier BD 700 Global Express XRS was put up for sale, ostensibly, due to the high maintenance cost.

Now, back to the Davido’s jet acquisition claim.

Until we see the aircraft “kororo” at MMIA, together with the documentation bearing his name, it remains just a rumour.

However, here are a few things you should know about how much it costs to own and maintain a Challenger 605.

1. To buy a brand new Bombardier Challenger 605 be ready to part with approximately $27m.

2. If you cannot afford a brand new one, you could settle for a tokunbo (used) one. A used vintage 605 goes for $15m.

3. The cost of flying a private jet depends on the number of hours it flies and the nautical miles it travels. For instance, if it travels 175,000 nautical miles and 423 hours per year, owners should anticipate variable expenses of $1,515,813 annually.

4. The greatest chunk of the expenses on a 605 is spent on fueling it. Actually, about 65% of the cost of operating a 605 it is spent on fueling it.

5. The cost of fueling a 605 is estimated at $2,346 per hour out of a total variable cost of $3,583 per hour.

6. The 605 is estimated to use 329 gallons of fuel per hour.

7. So, in a singe year, the total cost of ownership of the Bombardier Challenger 605 is $3,481,595 including market depreciation of ($1,240,920) or $5,342,974 including book depreciation of $3,102,300. Both figures include fixed costs per year of $724,861.

8. Here is a summary of the cost involved in owning and maintaining a Challenger 605.
Crew Salaries – Captain $138,000
Crew Salaries – Co Pilot $95,000
Crew Salaries – Flight Attendant $75,000
Crew Salaries – Benefits $92,400
Hangar – Typical $59,900
Insurance – Hull $31,023
Insurance – Single Limit Liability $12,500
Recurrent Training $66,800
Aircraft Modernization $33,333
Navigation Chart Service $15,205
Refurbishing $94,500
Computer Maintenance Program $10,500
Weather Service $700
Total Fixed Cost per Year $724,861

Car Talk11 Mistakes Most Nigerian Car Owners Make by autojosh(op): 5:55pm On May 09, 2018
Let’s face and accept the truth, most Nigerians, or should I say a good number of Nigerian car owners, make too many mistakes. Some of them can cause minor damages, while others can be fatal.
Let’s find out some mistakes you are probably making and why you should stop them.

Not Reading The Car Manual
I can stake a Rolls Royce Phantom in a bet that, about 5 out of 10 or even more Nigerian car owners/drivers have never read their car manual or any car manual for that matter.
Read your car manual!, not all cars are the same !. Get to know your car.

Not Knowing Basic Car Maintenance And Repair
A very good number car owners, don’t know basic maintenance and repair of minor faults. What if your car breaks down where you have no access to a mechanic, and all you need is just 10 minutes of quick fixes to get you back on the road ?.Learn basic maintenance and repair, some of them are included in the manual !.Watch and learn from your mechanic, ask questions! .

Trying To Fix Things Beyond Your Experience
As much as its good to learn how to fix stuff yourself, there are some things that are way beyond your experience level. Leave it to the pros. Don’t do more damage to your car.

Not Having Basic Tools
This goes hand in hand with learning how to do simple maintenance and repair yourself .There are some set of tools you should always have, a jack is one of them, wheel spanners etc.As funny as it sounds , some people don’t have these. You can get all your tools and more in our auto shop.

Not Buckling Your Kids Up
This is rather sad and extremely dangerous. To compound the whole issue, I have seen parents allow their kids play in the front seat without being buckled up. Please make sure kids are buckled up properly.

Adults Need To Buckle Up Too
This has been repeated so much that people start feeling like they are being “forced” to wear seat belts. It’s for your safety. Kindly put them on always, and properly too.

Disobeying Speed Limits And Traffic Signs
Most Nigerian drivers turn a blind eye to speed limit signs, sometimes school/children crossing signs are ignored too!. They are there to protect you and other road users. Respecting them would take just few minutes of your time, disrespecting them might take your entire life away, or someone else’s life. Be safe .

Disobeying Traffic Lights
I had to separate this from the previous point. This is one of the most common violation/mistake, especially when the road is “free” and there is no traffic officer in sight. I was once knocked down by a Keke(Tricycle) in Mushin one evening, because I trusted the traffic light and the drivers, I didn’t see it coming. Thankfully, it was just a few bruises , it could have been worse. Kindly obey the traffic light always .

Using The Wrong Type Of Oil
Most manuals these days indicate the kind of oil you should use.Stop trusting Kamoru the mechanic’s suggestion on what oil to use.To most of them, “oil na oil “, they can’t even read the labels(I don’t mean to be condescending, but its true).Use the right oil for your car ! .

Using Wrong/Expired Tyres
A very good number of car owners still don’t know that tyres expire just like your milk or drugs .The fact that its shining and the threads are intact doesn’t mean it’s good to go. Some tyres aren’t even created for this climate, they are built for snow and cold environments. News flash!, its indicated on the body of the tyre. You need to start paying more attention to your safety folks!. Yes, Mr Segun, I am talking to you .

Not Checking Your Tyres Before Leaving The Mechanic’s Shop
Mechanics and vulcanizers can be really careless and nonchalant sometimes. Always double check all the tyres with a wheel spanner(not your bare hands) and make sure they are properly tightened before heading out. In fact, make this a routine check every day, even if you drove your car just last night and it has been parked in your compound all day.
I once caught a neighbour placing a nail under another neighbour’s tyre.
You have no idea what village people and wicked neighbours are capable of, I have said my own oo.

Hope you enjoyed this and learnt something valuable.
We would love to hear from you

Ok. The trending news is that Davido’s newest acquisition is a private jet.

The “If” crooner posted an Instagram video of what appears to be the receipt for the purchase.

He tagged the post, thus:

“Air OBO soon land. Youngest Nigga With a Jet”

From some details extracted from the photo of the receipt, we at did a bit of online search to confirm the authenticity of Davido’s claim.

With some details obtained on the receipt, together with the serial number of the PJ, we did an online investigation from a verified Bombardier information website about the Bombadiar Challenger 605. The response we got showed that the aircraft with that serial number was recently sold.

The newly renovated Ikeja Motor Park

PoliticsIs It The Responsibility Of Ambode To Build Or Reconstruct Motor Parks? by autojosh(op): 3:08pm On May 08, 2018
The Lagos state government is currently carrying out a massive reform of the transport sector. And as part of the reform process, the Ambode-led administration is reconstructing some existing Motor parks in Lagos state.

Note that the primary beneficiaries of these Motor parks are the Local Government Councils together with the road transport unions (NURTW, RTEAN, etc.)

However, there is some rather curious angle to all of these.

The construction of Motor parks is the constitutional responsibility of the Local Government council.

Then, why is the Lagos state government undertaking the constitutional responsibility of the Local Government Councils in Lagos – despite the huge allocation and the enormous revenues generated by the LGAs?

Please, clarification is needed here.

Car TalkMercedes Benz Sets New Record By Selling 192,000 Cars In April 2018 by autojosh(op): 1:01pm On May 07, 2018
- April sales by Mercedes-Benz reached a new high of more than 192,000 units (+6.6%).
- Record unit sales in April of more than 68,000 SUVs delivered (+14.0%)
- New record in Asia-Pacific: more than 80,000 cars sold and growth of 17.2%
- Demand for electric smart models in Europe higher than ever before

In the first three months of this year, Mercedes-Benz posted its strongest-selling quarter of all time and defended its top position in the premium segment. The company with the three-pointed star smoothly continued with this successful start to the year in April: 192,558 cars were delivered to customers around the world (+6.6%), more than ever before at the beginning of a second quarter. Unit sales in the first four months of the year increased to the new high of 786,862 vehicles sold with the three-pointed star (+6.2%). For 62 months in a row, Mercedes-Benz has now posted continuous growth. In several markets, Mercedes-Benz was the premium brand with the most new registrations in April, including Germany, Spain, Sweden, South Korea, Australia, USA, Mexico and Brazil.

“After our most successful quarter, we are keeping up the pace. More than 192,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles sold in April means not only a growth of 6.6%, but also a new sales record,” stated Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing & Sales. “At the trade fair in Beijing in April, we presented the long-wheelbase version of the A-Class Sedan, the sixth model in our family of compact cars. Since last weekend, the new A-Class Compact Sedan has been in the showrooms in Europe. These models are continuing the success story of the compact cars, of which six million have already been delivered to customers.”

Mercedes-Benz unit sales by model

In April, 68,129 Mercedes-Benz SUVs were sold, which is 14.0% more than in the prior-year month. The new record mainly reflects the strong demand for the GLC, which sales rose by 37.2% in April. Along with the GLC, the GLA is one of the bestselling models in the Mercedes-Benz SUV segment.

The S-Class Sedan recorded a 26.1% increase in unit sales at the beginning of the fourth quarter. 6,977 units of the Mercedes-Benz flagship were delivered in April. Sales of the Mercedes-Maybach rose to a new high last month. At “Auto China 2018” in Beijing, Mercedes-Benz presented the Vision Mercedes-Maybach Ultimate Luxury. The design of the crossover, based on an exclusive high-end saloon and an SUV, follows the philosophy of Sensual Purity.

The A-Class model change is now taking place. Nevertheless, more than 46,000 units of the compact models were delivered to customers worldwide in April. Since the beginning of the year, sales of more than 197,000 units of the A- and B-Class, the CLA, CLA Shooting Brake and GLA were actually above the prior-year level (+0.2%).
