The 2017 Volkswagen Phideon is set to take on the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series, Benz E-Class and Volvo S90.. with a price tag ranging from N19m - N36m ($51,000 - $97,000).

The Phideon is positioned between the Volkswagen Passat and the Volkswagen Phaeton.. and it is available with two engines: a 2.0 TSI with 224hp and 258 ft lb and a 3.0 TSI V6 with 299hp and 325 ft lb both mated to a 7-speed DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission). A plug-in hybrid is also planned for the future.

Some features are: Head-up display, night vision camera, aerial view camera, four wide-angle cameras, ambient lighting, headlight assist, apple car play, air suspension etc. The car is also equipped with latest generation five individually selectable driving modes. Another new feature is the electric soft-closing doors.

The sedan is also equipped with ACC (adaptive cruise control), Front Assist, Park Assist with automatic steering and braking, Lane Assist with lane-departure warning, Side Assist, and a proactive occupant protection system that tensions the safety belts and closes the windows or the sunroof before impact and many more.

As the reasons still remain unknown, Honda has confirmed their plans of letting go of the Accord Coupe . They say it will be replaced with the trending 2018 Honda Accord.

Apparently other brands have also stopped coupe cars production and are concentrating more on sporty sedans. Toyota did so and Nissan has also reportedly dropped the Altima coupe.

The sudden development was due to the low profit from the coupes compared to other model types in the auto-mobile market.

This is sad news for lovers of the Accord Coupe..

The BMW brand achieved its best-ever first half-year, topping the million mark for the first time ever by this point in the year. Global BMW sales totalled 1,038,030 units, an increase of 5.2% on the same period last year. Sales of BMW brand vehicles in June totalled 192,873, up 2.0% compared with the same month last year. A wide range of models throughout the range contributed to this growth. Sales of the BMW X1 increased 45.2% (136,748) in the first half-year while deliveries of the BMW X5 increased by 10.6% (89,958). BMW 1 Series sales grew by 6.5% (91,802) in the first half-year, while deliveries of the flagship BMW 7 Series increased during the same period by 26.9% (32,290).

June saw the arrival of the MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 in the dealerships, the ninth electrified vehicle from the BMW Group which is available to purchase today. The popularity of the BMW Group’s innovative premium electrified vehicles continues to grow at a rapid rate: in the first six months of the year, a total of 42,573 BMW i, BMW iPerformance and MINI Electric vehicles were delivered to customers, an increase of 79.8% on the same period last year. First-half-year production of electrified vehicles totalled 51,725. The BMW Group is well on track to achieve its target of selling 100,000 electrified vehicles in 2017.

Sales of MINI brand vehicles achieved a new record for June with 39,443 units delivered to customers around the world, an increase of 3.0% compared with the same month last year. June rounded off the brand’s record first half year, with sales totalling 181,214 (+3.6%). “MINI continues to achieve sustainable growth in sales around the world,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the BMW AG Board of Management responsible for MINI, Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad. “Sales of the new MINI Countryman are particularly pleasing and I’m delighted that with the launch in June of the MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4, electric mobility is now available on a large scale from the MINI brand. Customer interest in this car has been extremely high and I’m confident we will see continued growth across the brand in the second half of the year,” he added.

In the first half of 2017, the Goodwood-based Rolls-Royce brand delivered 1,575 (-6.5%) motor cars to customers. The same period in 2016 was particularly strong due to the popularity of the newly introduced Rolls-Royce Dawn. This base effect, and the absence from the market of the Phantom pending the introduction of the new Phantom later this year, account for the decrease in sales year-on-year. Despite considerable ongoing headwinds in the luxury sector in several regions, Rolls-Royce continues to strive for long-term sustainable growth.

BMW Motorrad achieved its best-ever June with a total of 17,260 motorcycles and maxi-scooters delivered to customers, an increase of 15.1% on the same month last year. Those figures helped BMW Motorrad achieve a record first half-year with sales totalling 88,389 in the first six months of the year, up 9.5% on the same period last year.

The Zarooq SandRacer 500GT concept was initially released in 2015 and has just begun production in United Arab Emirates. Although it’s not certain if it would be available in other markets, but its estimated price tag in UAE is N166 million ($450,00).

Uday Hussein was Saddam’s oldest son. Around the time of the first Gulf War he obtained a Ferrari F40, which he kept as part of a massive collection of luxury cars until he was killed by US Special Forces in 2003. When Iraq was invaded that year, the F40 was reportedly at a garage in northern Iraq having some work done. Boasting with over 545 hp, The Ford F-150 Raptor Pick-up is a very powerful off-roader.

Apart from the new carbon fibre wheel arches, roof-mounted light bar, distinctive silver, black and red wrap, custom wheels and impressive front grille, the main attraction is the engine power which was given a little tweak by adding a whip inter-cooler and a number of engine enhancements to the twin-turbo 3.5-litre EcoBoost V6 engine that boosted it to 545hp.

The EAA (Equivalent Annual Annuity) vice president of marketing and business development Dave Chaimson said: “Ford’s support of EAA and AirVenture has allowed thousands of young people to discover, enjoy, and pursue aviation. Toyota takes the Tundra pickup to new places in luxury and length with its Tundrasine concept.

It started out as a Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition 4×4 CrewMax 5.7L V8 pickup. Toyota then transformed that full-size Tundra into a larger-than-life-size limousine—hence the Tundrasine’s portmanteau name.

The Tundrasine is over 26 feet in length and has a wheelbase of 235.9 inches. The exterior is painted Midnight Black Metallic, and its eight doors open to reveal a custom and functional brown leather interior, inspired by the cockpits and passenger compartments of luxury private jets.

“People have seen plenty of limousines before, but never one quite like the Tundrasine,” said Appelbaum.

The Tundra that serves as the basis for this chauffeur-driven showstopper was—like all Toyota Tundras—assembled at the company’s facility in San Antonio. “They say everything’s bigger in Texas,” Appelbaum said, “and the Tundrasine really drives that point home—or anywhere you want to go.”

So you have finally decided to come to Lagos , the New York of Nigeria .

Whether you believe it or not there are new-comers being off-loaded into Lagos every single day.

You don’t have a car ?, who needs one when there are affordable yet inconvenient Danfo buses ? .

Here are some traffic and transport related tips you should know if you are a Lagos JJC(new-comer)

1.Too Many Places With The Same Name
Just so you don’t get lost, there are so many places with the same name , e.g “CELE”,”Cement”.And even more confusing ,generic names that have been adapted over time without a prefix or suffix like “round-about”,”under-bridge”.Make sure you find out and be sure which you are going to.

2.Similar Names
If you come from a city with unique names ,get ready to be more confused .Its one thing to have the same name in different places.Its another thing to have the same area or close proximities with similar names or bus stops .For example Alagbado,Agbado Ijaye,Agbado Crossing .

3.Don’t Even Think About Driving
So you were forming Fast and Furious 1-7 in Abuja or Ondo state for over 10 years and you want to try part 8 in Lagos .I am sorry to disappoint you ,driving in Lagos is more like Death Race.Get trained in Lagos and watch other Lagos-Experienced drivers for some months before you start driving here.

4.Don’t Travel During Rush Hour
Except you know how to rush into semi-speeding buses and maneuver between about 50 people hustling for one bus ,don’t travel during rush hours.Wait till 1pm when everybody is at work,till you learn the art of “bus hustling”,else you would be stranded at bus stops for hours.

5.Every Bus Conductor And Driver Has A Natural Anger
Except you are lucky ,every little thing upsets Lagos bus conductors and drivers ,so be safe and calm with them , at the same time don’t be too calm or else you would be taken for granted-confusing right ?,thats Lagos for you.

6.Don’t Cross Any Road That Has A Pedestrian Bridge
This issue has subsided , but its still very much effective in some areas .If you cross a road where a pedestrian bridge is present you could get arrested and placed in a mobile prison till you bail yourself or even worse end up singing Asa’s hit song for some time.

7.Don’t Trust Traffic Lights And Traffic Signs
Roughly 60 percent of motorists don’t respect traffic lights in Lagos .In the eyes of Lagos drivers there is nothing like Zebra Crossing as far as you are human being and not a Z…. any way you know what I mean .

In the first six months of 2017, Mercedes-Benz was more successful than ever before in a half-year. 209,309 cars were delivered to customers in June (+11.1%) and 1,144,274 in the first six months of the year (+13.7%). The Stuttgart-based company with the three-pointed star thus set new sales records, significantly surpassing its prior-year unit sales both in June and in the first six months of the year. In addition, the second quarter was the best-ever quarter with 583,649 vehicles delivered worldwide (+11.6%).

“We have posted the strongest half-year in the history of Mercedes-Benz with sales of significantly more than a million cars,” stated Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing & Sales. “Not only the popularity of our E-Class family contributed to this success; demand for our SUVs is also as high as ever in all regions.”

More than 210,000 units of the C-Class Saloon and Estate were sold in the first six months of the year, making the C-Class the bestseller in the Mercedes-Benz portfolio once again. The biggest sales market was China, where double-digit growth and a new sales record were achieved thanks to ongoing strong demand for the long version of the C-Class Saloon.

Demand for the world’s most intelligent business saloon and estate continues at a high level: In the first half of the year, sales of these two E-Class models increased to 181,940 units (+68.4%). As of now, it is also possible to order the new E-Class Cabriolet, which strengthens this successful Mercedes-Benz model series. With the Saloon, Estate, Cabriolet, Coupé and All-Terrain, Mercedes-Benz offers with the E-Class the broadest model range amongst the premium manufacturers in the upper range.

From January to June, the Stuttgart-based company with the three-pointed star delivered 385,044 SUVs to its customers, which is an increase of 13.4%. From the GLA to the G-Class, these vehicles are extremely popular all over the world.

BMW i continues to drive sustainable innovation with its futureproof technology and integrated approach. And now the high-voltage battery developed for the i3 is not only powering emissions-free mobility on the road, but on the water too. The BMW Group is supplying lithium-ion batteries from its Dingolfing plant to German company Torqeedo.

The marine drive system manufacturer is using them for energy storage in its high-performance Deep Blue electric drive systems. Torqeedo was founded in 2005 in Starnberg, Germany and is leading on a global basis as a provider of electric and hybrid propulsion systems for motorboats from 1 to 160 HP for sailing yachts and commercial marine applications, such as ferries and water taxis.

High-voltage batteries from BMW i will form an integral part of an environment- friendly, cost-effective, silent alternative to conventional boat propulsion systems. “We see the decision by Torqeedo to use BMW i high-voltage batteries for their Deep Blue propulsion system as further evidence that we can build the drive systems of the future without any need for compromise on performance, innovation and sustainability,” explains Dr Alexander Kotouc, Head of Product Management BMW i. “This successful transfer of the latest automotive technology to the water is testament to the value of the integrated approach that underpins BMW i.”

The BMW Group develops and assembles high-voltage batteries for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in-house. The lithium-ion battery created for the BMW i3 comprises eight modules, each containing 12 cells. The connectors, cables, monitoring sensors and heating and cooling system have also been developed specifically for BMW i.

The BMW Group’s development and manufacturing expertise provides the basis for its continuous advancements in the field of battery technology. The latest example of this is the high-voltage battery in the current BMW i3. Although its size and weight remained unchanged from the earlier version, its capacity was increased by over 50% to 94 Ah/33 kWh.

Thanks to the plug-and-play capability that the designers have built into BMW i3 batteries from the outset, the technology offers broad scope for applications beyond the automotive sector. Marine propulsion system manufacturer Torqeedo combines lithium-ion batteries from BMW i with its most powerful range of motors for inboard and outboard units and hybrid systems with up to 160 hp. “The BMW i high-voltage batteries are a model of extraordinary reliability and performance for electric mobility,” explains Christoph Ballin, Co-founder and CEO of Torqeedo. “They allow us to deliver state-of-the-art electric propulsion technology and integrated energy management for leisure craft and commercial marine applications.”

This innovative use of BMW i high-voltage batteries to provide electric propulsion on the water is just one example of the wide variety of applications that can be served by this integrated sustainability concept. Another area is stationary energy storage, where the batteries are also used to increase the energy efficiency of residential and commercial buildings by providing intermediate storage for renewable energy generated by solar and wind installations.

What is more, the BMW i high-voltage batteries can also be reused for this purpose after they have completed their useful life in a vehicle. In terms of sustainability, reusing the batteries makes much more sense than recycling them prematurely. This led the BMW Group to develop scenarios envisaging a “second life” for the batteries after long service in a car, even before the BMW i3 was launched onto the market. This type of reuse has a key role to play in the transition to green energy – and the ever-increasing demand for intermediate storage of renewable power that comes as a result.
