For more than a year now, the Hyundai Santa Cruz Concept has remained a concept, but recently, Hyundai Motor America’s vice president of corporate and product planning, Michael J. O’Brien, confirmed that the executives have given the thumbs up to start production of the Hyundai pickup truck.

Although he refused to disclose when the truck will be available or the prices, but one thing we are sure of is, it will be sported on Nigerian roads shortly after it is produced.

Possible competitors of the Santa Cruz are; Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon, Toyota Tacoma, and Nissan Frontier.

It first came as GLK in 2008 and was then re-launched in 2015 as GLC, which now comes in GLC Coupe.

Mercedes has been with SUVs since it started trending, from the GLA through to the large GLS. The millionth GLC was produced at a Bermen plant in Germany, but it sold out pretty fast. Other plants are in Valmet in Finland and in China which accounts for roughly half of the GLCs sales, even more than the sales record in the US and Germany.

The ‘Dawn in Fuxia’ is finished in a vibrant color matched to a flower that Mr. Fux found last year during his visit to Pebble Beach. Mr. Fux had just been presented with one of the first highly personalized Dawns in the world in his eponymous colour ‘Fux Blue.’ He then presented fuchsia petals from the Pebble Beach lawns to the Rolls-Royce Bespoke Design team with a challenge to them to create a second Bespoke Dawn. One year later he returns to Pebble Beach to see the end result in a familial ceremony presented by Rolls-Royce.

“When I commissioned my first Bespoke Rolls-Royce in 2005, I wanted something completely different than any of the other cars commissioned at the time. I knew the designers had a lot of creativity that I wanted to explore,” said Mr. Fux. “I love the heritage of the Rolls-Royce brand and I love these cars. I always challenge my fellow owners to push the Bespoke envelope.”

In total, Mr. Fux has commissioned ten other Rolls-Royce vehicles, each highly personalized to his exact specifications.

“Michael is a very special patron of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars,” stated Mr. Müller-Ötvös. “Rolls-Royce designers love working with him because he constantly challenges them to take their work to an even higher level, delivering a true work of art.”

In 2016, Mr. Fux took delivery of his first Dawn finished in ‘Fux Blue’ with a stunning Arctic White interior. Other colours he has commissioned remain in the Rolls-Royce Colour Collection reserved exclusively for Mr. Fux, which include:

The new BMW M5 takes BMW M GmbH into new territory, with M xDrive all-wheel drive featuring in the high-performance sedan for the first time. This change of tack sees the M5 exploring new dynamic dimensions and offering greater everyday practicality in all driving conditions.

The new M xDrive developed by BMW M GmbH is the most emotionally engaging all-wheel-drive system yet to grace the high-performance segment. It works with a central transfer case with multi-plate clutch and distributes drive fully variably between the front and rear axle, as required. Another ingredient in the car’s supreme traction in all road and weather conditions is the Active M Differential at the rear axle, which also works fully variably and has a locking effect between 0 and 100 per cent.

The character of M xDrive can be adjusted as desired. The driver has five different configurations to choose from based on combinations of the DSC modes (DSC on, MDM, DSC off) and M xDrive modes (4WD, 4WD Sport, 2WD). In the basic setting with DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) activated and 4WD, the system permits slight slip through the rear wheels when accelerating out of corners – and therefore plays its part in giving the new BMW M5 its sporting agility. In M Dynamic mode (MDM, 4WD Sport) M xDrive allows easily controlled drifts. The three M xDrive modes with DSC switched off have been conceived to sate the appetites of keen drivers and primarily for use on the track. Here, the driver can choose from three configurations up to and including pure rear-wheel drive (2WD). This mode allows the driver to pick their own drift angle and treats connoisseurs to driving dynamics in their purest form.

Providing ample power for the new BMW M5 is a 4.4-litre V8 bi-turbo engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology. The M engineers have carried out significant revisions to the outgoing model’s power unit. For example, newly developed turbochargers, ultra-efficient indirect charge air cooling and increased fuel injection pressure together help to raise output and, above all, torque. The engine develops 441 kW at 5,600 – 6,700 rpm, while a monumental 750 Nm of torque is placed at the driver’s disposal from as low down as 1,800 rpm and remains there until 5,600 rpm. A map-controlled, fully variable oil pump ensures oil is supplied as and when the new BMW M5 needs it, even on the track. The car’s impressive performance figures speak for themselves: 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, 0 to 200 km/h in 11.1 seconds. Top speed, meanwhile, is an electronically limited 250 km/h, but the optional M Driver’s Package can keep the fun coming to 305 km/h.

The new BMW M5 channels all that power through a specially tuned eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. In D mode it provides all the comfort and convenience of fully automatic gear changes, but can then also switch to sequential manual shifts. The driver can do this using either the compact selector lever on the centre console or the steering wheel-mounted paddles. Drivelogic allows the driver to adjust the transmission’s characteristics to their personal preferences. For track use, the eight-speed M Steptronic unit serves up lightning-fast shift times, helping to give the new BMW M5 its exceptional agility and dynamic flair.

The suspension of the new BMW M5 is likewise designed to deliver both maximum traction for everyday use and supreme dynamic performance on the track. Like the engine, transmission and M xDrive system, it has been tuned by experts and racing drivers at venues including the world’s most exacting test facility – the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit. Sophisticated stiffening elements in the front and rear structures ensure the body structure is extremely rigid and therefore that the car provides instantaneous feedback, in particular when the driver is pushing hard on the road or track.

The driver can also choose from Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus modes for the Variable Damper Control (VDC) system – which has M-specific tuning – and the M Servotronic steering. And the engine’s characteristics can also be configured to the driver’s tastes via the Efficient, Sport and Sport Plus modes. The two M1 and M2 buttons on the M leather steering wheel can be used to store two set-ups combining the driver’s preference of engine, transmission, suspension and M xDrive modes, the DSC mode and Head-Up-Display settings. The driver can then activate their preferred set-up by pressing the relevant button.

The new BMW M5 includes revisions to its bodywork over the regular BMW 5 Series to satisfy its challenging dynamic brief. The M engineers have redesigned the broader front side panels and front bumper trim to include larger apertures for the air feeding the cooling systems and brakes. Also new is the rear diffuser. The exhaust system’s quartet of tailpipes are a visual pointer to the power generated by the BMW M5 and also lay on a suitably sporting soundtrack for the job in hand, courtesy of their flap control system. The driver can use a button to adjust the engine sound as desired.

The bonnet, which also has an M-specific design, is made from aluminium and boasts eye-catching sculpture lines. These extend into the extremely lightweight carbon fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) roof – a standard feature of the new M5. The weight savings contributed by the CFRP roof and other components such as the exhaust system help to ensure the new BMW M5 with M xDrive all-wheel drive is lighter than its predecessor.

The new BMW M5 is fitted as standard with M compound brakes, which are lighter than conventional grey cast iron items and therefore also bring down the car’s weight. With blue-painted six-piston fixed callipers at the front and single-piston floating callipers at the rear, plus perforated, inner-vented brake discs all round, the M compound brakes have the speed-shedding power to befit the car’s dynamic potency. The optional M carbon ceramic brakes, which can be identified by callipers painted in a gold colour and shave another 23 kilograms off the M5’s weight, can withstand even greater punishment.

The new BMW M5 comes as standard with polished 19-inch light-alloy wheels (front: 9.5 x 19, rear: 10.5 x 19) in Orbit Grey and M-specific tyres (front: 275/40 R 19, rear: 285/40 R 19). 20-inch items can be specified as an option (front: 275/35 R 20 tyres on 9.5 x 20 rims, rear: 285/35 R 20 tyres on 10.5 x 20 rims). Standard specification for the new BMW M5 also features Merino leather and M seats with electric adjustment. The options list includes newly developed M multifunction seats, which stand out with their bucket-seat-style construction and even better lateral support.

The new BMW M5 can be ordered from September 2017, priced at €117,900, and deliveries will begin in spring 2018. In South Africa, the new BMW M5 will be available in the first quarter of 2018. Local pricing and specifications will be available before the end of 2017.

Scheduled for launch on the same sales start date as the standard M5 is the BMW M5 First Edition. This special-edition version – limited to a run of 400 examples worldwide – has BMW Individual Frozen Dark Red Metallic paintwork, is exclusively appointed and costs an extra €19,500 over the standard model. The BMW M5 First Editon will also be available in South Africa in very limited numbers.

The 2028 electric and autonomous Audi E-Tron Imperator Concept was rendered by artist Frederic Le Sciellour to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first Audi Type R (1927 – 29).

The E-Tron has a very huge cabin with four seats coupled with advanced technologies, like the large holographic display in the rear that projects a 3D image, a fully digital dashboard and door panels that have large touch screens that control multimedia functions and others.

When asked about car depreciation, this 2006 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG is a perfect example.

The first owner of the Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG bought it at N74m ($200,000), but after about ten years, he sold it at a funny price of N1.4m ($3,750).

The car has an impressively twin-turbo V12 engine which runs smoothly with 150,000 miles on it. The buyer will need to fix just a few electrical issues which includes faulty windows and a bad radio.

Importers of used vehicles will soon face the task of ensuring that such automobiles are accompanied by valid certificates of road-worthiness from the countries of origin, to indicate that they do not pose health and motoring hazards, before they can be allowed into the country.

The new Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council {NADDC}, Jelani Aliyu, stated this at a forum in Lagos where he met auto industry stakeholders for the first time since his appointment four months ago.

The former top designer with the General Motors in the United States of America said the council, which is charged with the responsibility of regulating activities in the automotive industry, is worried that most of the used vehicles coming into the country are in very bad shape and endanger public health and road safety.

Aliyu explained that some of the in-bound second-hand vehicles are dismantled before being shipped, only to be welded back and deployed to the roads, adding that in this process, safety standards are compromised.

To check the trend and ensure that only tokunbo vehicles that are still in good shape come into the country, the NADDC would work out an arrangement in conjunction with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria [SON] to make it mandatory for such vehicles to arrive the ports with road-worthiness certificates.

The document, according to him, would be proof that the vehicles were in good condition at the time they were leaving their countries of origin.

The Director General, however, stated that the council would not consider a total ban on the importation of the tokunbo vehicles pending the coming on stream, before the end of the year, of a finance scheme designed to ease the purchase of brand new cars by average Nigerians.

The vehicle purchase scheme which is being packaged in partnership with WesBank, a leading provider of motor vehicle and business finance in South Africa, is to ensure that Nigerians buy cars of their choice without having to pay the full value at once.

Guests at the forum were also informed that in line with the goals of the automotive policy, the council would encourage the domestic auto industry to produce vehicles that would be affordable in addition to meeting the needs of the local market.

The NADDC boss said that the production of vehicles that are relevant to the needs of the market would boost the campaign to encourage government ministries, departments and agencies to patronise made-in-Nigeria automobiles.

Commenting on the efforts made so far towards implementing the automotive policy, the NADDC Director in charge of Policy and Planning, Mr. Mamudu Luqman, said the council had procured hectares of land for the development of automotive supplier parks in Nnewi, Oshogbo and Kaduna.


One of the stakeholders, and Managing Director of ABC Transport, Frank Nneji, applauded the efforts so far made towards implementing the auto policy, but tasked the council on the imperative of boosting local content.

The transporter, who ventured into the assembly of heavy duty and light trucks, as well as mini buses in Enugu, said: “There is need for tyre industries to be developed; we should also be looking at battery, windscreen and other car accessories. The issue of input is one area that we want NADDC to focus on”.

A representative of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Ltd, Nnewi, Cornel Osigwe, lamented the frustrating hurdles usually encountered by genuine auto plants in renewing their manufacturer status.

Osigwe’s suggestion that the council should consider making a case with the relevant ministry, for the validity of the certificate to be extended to a longer period, was well received by the NADDC Director of Policy and Planning.

Mitsubishi revealed their all-new Mitsubishi Xpander at the Indonesia International Auto Show in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The exterior has prominent lines as well as a pair of sporty looking L-shaped LED taillights.

The seven-seater cabin is spacious. It has a three-spoke steering wheel, metallic accents, and an impressive number of storage compartments including 16 cup holders. In the tech aspect the Mitsubishi Xpander is equipped with digital multi-information display in the instrument cluster and an infotainment system with Bluetooth and Internet connectivity.

The sleek SUV is powered by a 1.5-liter petrol engine that produces a low 103hp. You have the liberty to choose either the five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic gearbox, regardless of your choice, all Mitsubishi Xpanders will be equipped with front-wheel drive.

Pricing starts from N5.2m ($14,152) excluding shipping and clearing, it’s presently only sold at Indonesia, but will be in other markets early 2018.

1. Buying in a haste

Buying a car is totally different from buying hot wheels cars from Shoprite's toy rack.. where kids spot the toy of their choice, point a finger and it's theirs in a minute. As we all know, the kid may damage the toy before the next day. Now, we are talking about buying a real car with your hard earned money. So don't rush. Take your time, compare prices and do all the necessary checks.



2. Thinking the cheapest car is the always the best deal

Awoof has purged many on several occasions. I always tell people "the cheapest car is not necessarily the best deal". It is a bad idea to save N500,000 only to buy a car that has just been rebuilt from a terrible accident.. with deployed airbags and damaged suspensions not properly repaired. The sad news is some people paid the ultimate price for this error with their lives. Some others ended up in jail for buying ridiculously cheap cars which happened to be stolen vehicles. This though is the major reason car dealers in Nigeria do all those shady things just to sell their cars.



3. Falling in love with the clean body of the car only

Many of us are guilty of this. We buy a car because it has a clean exterior. I fell victim to this when I bought my first car and the car started dealing with me after 6 months. Another guy bought a 2003 Toyota Highlander at Berger in Lagos, by the time he got to Port Harcourt with the car, he realised he had only bought a car body with no engine.. the engine of the highlander knocked within the first 3 months. To add pepper to the injury, Nigeria Customs seized the SUV immediately after he changed the engine at Owerri.



4. Showing desperation to the seller

If you show that you are desperately in love or in need of a car to a seller, then you may have just signed a one chance certificate. The next thing they will tell you is, someone else is coming to pay for the car this evening. So you won't have a choice but to pay now. You may end up paying more for the car and you may not have time to do proper checks.



5. Not doing proper checks

6. They want the most recent version

Some of us want the 2008 Toyota Corolla because it is the most recent model of that design but we still want to pay the price of the 2003 for it because they look similar. Apart from most 2008 costing more to purchase from USA or Canada, the custom duty at Lagos port is also definitely higher. So if you are particular about saving cost, you may be better off with the 2003 model instead of buying a refurbished 2008 model. The difference in both cars may not be commensurate to the difference in price and this applies to many other brands and models.



7. Buying a particular car because someone else is driving it

Don't try to keep up with the Joneses. I have seen people make the mistake of buying cars because they've seen a few people driving it or their neighbour has one. So they will just conclude that for that person to be able to maintain it, they can also maintain it. On the contrary, you don't know if that person you are admiring is suffering and smiling with that car.. You also don't know his/her financial capacity and source of income. So please always take your car research beyond the fact that someone else is able to maintain a car. Because you might just not know what he/she is actually going through



8. I want my car to be one in town

There is nothing as satisfying as driving a one in town car.. and your car is so unique that it turns heads wherever you go. But don't forget our common saying "one in town car, one in town problem". So you'd better tread with caution. You need to research a reliable repair centre and availability of parts. You also need a sure contact that can help you get the parts abroad when needed.. as well as a Bureau De Change guy that will be giving you good dollar exchange rate. But there is a way to play safe with using a unique car. What some people do is, they buy a usual car like a 2012 Toyota Camry or a 2012 Benz E-Class then they modify it (love-vendor) by changing some components like the lights, bumpers, grills etc. However, you have to do this with care so you don't overdo and end up messing the car up into an ugly.....



9. Using all your last Kobo to buy a car

This problem speaks for itself. Always remember, the car will need some care after purchase and you're going to be using money for that. I am sure you've seen people who buy a car and start to beg for money to fuel it after 2 weeks.. some even start depending on other people for food to eat.. and they declare bankruptcy when they get the first repair bill from their mechanic. Lol

Mobility has once again been refined with the introduction of vehicular control using voice commands. Mercedes-Benz has further enhanced the performance of the LINGUATRONIC voice control system for navigation use and entertainment. This is one of the many efforts aimed at perfecting mobility in the autonomous future.

The new E-class features a new Audio 200 entry-level radio that comes with a larger display, new infotainment software and the option of a widescreen cockpit. Major highlights include the new Mercedes-Benz SD map navigation, which turns the radio to a high-end navigation system, online access and car telephony with fast LTE technology, additional interior appointment options and ambient lighting with dynamic light scenarios.

The LINGUATRONIC Voice control is an evolutionary leap forward as it comes with a wide variety of control options and an additional eleven new languages. For example, when the vehicle is equipped accordingly, blower level, temperature and seat heating can be controlled conveniently by voice command, with no need for drivers to take their hands off the steering wheel or their eyes off the traffic. Other controlled functions include the rear window heater and various comfort and lighting functions. Another new feature enables the driver to call up a wide range of information – such as the date the next service is due, the current speed limit, the vehicle’s range or the current date.

LINGUATRONIC uses commands, which are incorporated in the software, and is thus not reliant on an internet connection. In order to cover the vast range of control options, up to 450 voice commands are available, depending on the language version and the vehicle’s equipment. The commands are designed to be as simple, intuitive and natural as possible to match likely instinctive commands of the driver such as: “Navigate to ABC” to reach a desired destination, “Take me home” for already home addresses, “Call XYZ” triggers a call to the desired number and “massage me” initiates the seat’s massage function.

Several hundred alternatives are stored in LINGUATRONIC for each command, resulting in a high likelihood that the user will hit on the right phrase at the first attempt. By way of additional support, a “teleprompter” presents possible commands on the display as soon as the driver presses the push-to-talk button. In regards to human response, a new function allows the user to interrupt the system’s voice output to halt the current dialogue and move on to the next dialogue step, for example. This makes voice control faster and more efficient.

Another new feature lends the voice control system from Mercedes-Benz an appealing human touch. The system avoids constantly reacting to a command with the same answer, instead varying its response between three or four synonymous sentences. This lends communications with the system a pleasant and almost human touch.

In addition to the standard-specification Audio 20 USB multimedia system and the high-end COMAND Online multimedia system, Mercedes-Benz will be offering a new variant of the Audio 20 system in the E with a larger 12.3-inch media display (basic variant 8.4-inch) and new infotainment software in the future.

The new E-class comes with a host of improved details such as audible feedback from the Touch Control buttons on the multifunction steering wheel for even more intuitive operation. Boot lid convenience closing feature with additional closing function by means of a gentle push on the lid, Enhanced ambient lighting with 64 colors and three color zones showcases the interior like a work of art. Ten color schemes emphasize the hi-tech setting and lend structure to the interior. A new dynamic mode features changing colors, including a colored “welcome effect” for the driver, for example. The dynamic ambient lighting also offers functional aspects. It confirms the wish for a higher temperature by briefly highlighting in red the area of the vehicle, currently being heated up. E.g. the two USB charging ports in the rear, two new open-pore wood finishes for the center console with matching trim, plus new nappa leather appointments in macchiato beige/yacht blue.

The E-class is available for immediate delivery at Weststar Associates, Authorized General Distributors of Mercedes-Benz in Nigeria and all authorized dealerships nationwide.

Majority of us don’t use seat belt when we board ride sharing taxi such as Uber and Taxify.. as well as when we are in the owner’s corner or in the back seat.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found out that 74 percent of passengers always use a safety belt in personal vehicles, only 57 percent of people report the same thing in a ride-share car or taxi.

We always think that the rear seat (back seat) are safer so there’s no need of applying seat belt. The gif above shows what could happen if we don’t use seat belt.

“For most adults, it’s still as safe to ride in the back seat as the front seat, but not if you aren’t buckled up,” Jessica Jermakian, an IIHS senior research engineer and a co-author of the study, said in a release. “That applies to riding in an Uber, Lyft or other hired vehicle, too.”

To be honest, it’s quite rare to find a Ferrari on our streets or even in an expensive hotel’s parking lot, mostly because of the low ground clearance that could cause regular visits to the mechanic and there is a huge price tag to contend with.

The Ferrari Sergio was first released as a concept, back in 2013, as a tribute to the late automobile designer, Sergio Pininfarina. A few years later, the Ferrari Sergio was released as a production vehicle, but only six were produced.

Sources say that three customers were from the US, while the other three were from United Arab Emirates, Japan and Switzerland.

We all pray not to involve in a road accident, but sometimes there are some safety tips we need to know peradventure we got involved in a road accident.

Lagos Response Unit (LRU) tells us the rightly steps to take when we are involved in a road accident.

1.

First check yourself for any injuries.

2.

Check other person(s) for injuries: Perform a quick assessment of the situation & see who needs the most help.

3.

Look for signs of breathing: check if the person is breathing and if he/she has a pulse.

4.

Call for help: Immediately dial 112 (Lagos State Emergency helpline) for an ambulance

5.

Check 4 obstructions in the person’s mouth and throat: If u do not hear any breath sounds, check for any obstructions & clear the airway.

6.

Put the patient in recovery position: If there is bleeding from the mouth or vomiting, turn the person to his side.

7.

Deal with open wounds: apply pressure to the area using a cloth with your palms.

8.

Always suspect spinal injuries: If the person’s neck is in an awkward position, do not move the patient. Get help immediately.

9.

Avoid feeding the person: Do not give the person any fluids or food through the mouth to avoid choking.
