1) Start with Data (Census) This is the first and a very important planning tool. How many people live where, how many of them own cars, how of them do 9-5 jobs etc. For example, if 500,000 people live in Ajah, and 70% of that population have day jobs, 50% of that figure work in Victoria Island.. then you would have an idea of how many people flow into VI from that axis.. and that would help plan and make commutes as smooth as possible. 2) Traffic Cameras/Drones Traffic Cameras will help catch traffic offenders and curb crime. They can be deployed to major locations first then other locations later. Cameras are static, they require little power and don’t need to be manned. Some can just capture what’s going on while some more expensive ones have features like facial recognition and license plate detection. Drones will also help in monitoring, surveying and reporting traffic issues as well as reducing response time. Drones can also be deployed in times of emergencies to give first responders a vantage point on what’s happening. 3) Planned & Managed Bus Stops Lagos State Government is currently doing an amazing job building several lay-bys and bus stops across the state. We hope to see more dedicated bus stops after roundabouts and major junctions.. as against disorganized buses parking on the road and taking up multiple lanes. 4) Civilian Engagement Embrace crowdsourcing of traffic updates. Build a traffic and navigation app which enables drivers to share real-time traffic and road information, saving other drivers time and fuel on their commute. LASTMA can also set up the road cameras and drones to give live feeds to premium subscribers. 5) Communication This is very critical.. imagine how many accidents were recorded during the recent re-surfacing of 3rd Mainland Bridge. Drivers were simply cruising at their regular speed oblivious of the road construction especially at night. This resulted in multiple accidents on weekly basis. Proper lighting and adequate road signs should have been used to communicate the impending danger. Also, prospective, on-going and completed road projects should be duly communicated. 6) Regular Maintenance Fix roads starting with the major roads, ensure proper drainage of water, repair pot holes etc. 7) Enforce Traffic Laws I guess there is excessive focus on this. Too many government agencies are focused on making cars road worthy.. maybe some of them should be redeployed to making all the roads in Lagos State car worthy. 8 ) Alternative Transport We need improved road, rail and water transport system. 1,000 people on a ferry will save a reasonable number of cars from plying the roads. We need buses, trains and ferries that are comfortable, safe, punctual, dependable and clean. Carpooling and biking should also be encouraged. 9) Role of Businesses Companies can contribute their quota by introducing staff buses as well as work from home initiative.. where staff are appraised by Key Performance Indicators instead of the number of hours spent in the office. Companies should also ensure their offices are strategically located. Not too far from the required inputs as well as output markets. 10) Business Locations Event centers, churches, fuel stations, banks and other commercial buildings which pull crowd.. should ensure they have adequate space to accommodate the vehicles of their visitors. Some event centres in the state have been shut by the government for causing excessive traffic. 11) Emergency Response & Protocol LASEMA Response Unit (LRU) is doing an incredible job. They respond promptly with first class equipment. It would be nice if other agencies could emulate this. 12) Tar Existing and Construct New Roads This is a major cause of traffic in the state. Limited alternative routes is a major disaster.. Victoria Island and Apapa can be linked with a short bridge but imagine the time you spend driving through Lagos Island and Ijora before you can get to Apapa. 4th Mainland Bridge will also be a life saver. It irks when you see roads remain untarred for more than 30 years in this day and age.. They probably have been tarred according to government records but not in reality. ….from Muhammad Oyereyi (UNILAG) https://autojosh.com/12-practical-steps-to-solving-traffic-issues-in-lagos-state/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove Marpol Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy Seun

Fuel smelling inside a car may be normal to some of us that have a jerrycan in the boot. However, i doubt if someone who drives a N40million Porsche Macan will indulge in such. The bad news is you may be getting that pungent fuel smell inside your Macan whether or not you just bought fuel for your gen. Therefore, Porsche has issued a voluntary recall of 51,497 Macan which includes the base, S, GTS and Turbo trims. The affected vehicles were built between March 4, 2014, and April 14, 2017. The issue is from the filter flange in the fuel pump which may crack after extensive use. This crack can make fuel smell seep into the cabin. According to Porsche, no incidents has been reported in the field. The effect is only limited to smell so you probably shouldn’t be scared of an explosion. https://autojosh.com/porsche-macan-recalled/

Because the airline has been struggling for years. Alitalia has been rescued a couple of times.. in 2008 when a consortium of Italian companies came to its rescue and in 2014 when Etihad Airways bought 49% stake. Acura is considering the CDX which will be smaller than the MDX and RDX. Although it is currently sold in China.. the automaker intends to expand its market to remain competitive. Major competitors are BMW X1, Audi Q3, Benz GLA etc. The Acura CDX rides on the same platform with the Honda HR-V and it’s expected to be powered by 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine.. same one in the Honda Civic. “It’s a model that interests a lot of our people, so we have our R& guys looking into the possibility,” Jon Ikeda, group vice president-Acura U.S., told WardsAuto. But bringing the CDX here isn’t as simple as just “shipping it over here,” Ikeda added. Across all media of transportation, Nigeria has made significant progress. We have even started manufacturing our own cars .But how much do you really know about how it all started, where it started .Do you know the facts ? Let us get enlightened ! 1. The first woman to buy a car in Nigeria was Madam Efunroye Tinubu. She was born in 1805 and died in 1887.She was one of the most powerful women in Nigerian history ,a business tycoon. She engaged in businesses such as slave trade, salt trade, palm oil trade etc.Its rumored she had about 360 personal slaves, but thats a story for another day.The famous Tinubu Square was named after her. 2. The first woman to drive a car in Nigeria is Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti . 3. Importation of cars into Nigeria started as early as 1919 according to BBC 4. Nigeria’s first car importer is William Akinola Dawodu he started as early as 1919.He was born in 1879 and he attended CMS grammar school. He was a sole agent for the Firestone Tyres, Dodge, Charlotte and Reo Motors . 5. Nigeria Railway Corporation was established in 1898 6. The first railway line was constructed from Lagos to Ibadan (193km) between 1898 and 1901 . 7. The road linking Ibadan and Oyo constructed in 1906 is recorded to be the first motorable road ever constructed in Nigeria 8. The first aircraft landed in Nigeria on November 1, 1925. It involved three De Havilland DH 9A aircraft belonging to the Royal Air Force, RAF. 9. In 2015 Nigeria recorded one of the most tragic number of road accidents. The Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, says a total of 12, 077 road crashes were recorded across the country in 2015.Sadly 5,400 people involved in the crashes lost their lives. 10. To round it up,I would be breaking the heart of some Innoson fans .The feat for the first car made in Nigeria wasn’t accomplished by Innoson. The first car was Izuogu Z-600 , built by Engineer Ezekiel Izuogu. The prototype was launched in 1997. The prototype was equipped with a self made 1.8L four cylinder engine that got 18mpg and allowed the car to achieve a top speed of 140 km/h (86 mph) . Due to political and financial constraints ,mass production couldn’t take place. What are your thoughts on this . Have something to add or say ? We would like to hear from you. Uber is one business that is worth investing in if you’d like to earn ₦140,000 monthly on a ₦2,000,000 investment. The 2 most important factors to succeed in the business are getting a practical car that is in good working condition.. as well as getting a good and trustworthy driver. Uber accepts 2005 and above four door cars. However, buying a 2007, 2008 or 2009 model is better so the car can repay itself on time whilst having a life span of 3 to 4 years on the Uber platform before they yank if off. When choosing the most practical car to use, you have to consider the following factors: Purchase cost, fuel economy, good air conditioner, reliability, maintenance cost, life span, resale value etc.. Despite how lucrative the business is, I noticed several cars have been pulling out of the Uber business due to accidents, reliability issues, fuel consumption especially vehicles with 6 cylinder engines etc. In order to prevent same mistakes, you may want to stick to the following cars.. Best Cars For Uber Business Toyota Corolla https://i66.tinypic.com/2k2b2o.jpg This is actually the most preferred.. no wonder most companies use them as official cars. The 1.8 litre 4 cylinder engine gives an average of 30 miles per gallon (mpg). The air conditioner is excellent, sound system is good enough and the car makes your passengers arrive like a boss. With the Corolla, you’ll get good reliability, reasonable space and excellent resale value. Estimated Price: Tokunbo – N2.8m.. Nigerian used – N1.8m (2009 model) Toyota Yaris (Sedan) https://i64.tinypic.com/15f3voz.jpg This car is small but mighty and arguably the best in the Uber line-up. Its 1.5 litre 4 cylinder engine gives you an amazing average fuel consumption of 32 mpg.. That’s about half the consumption of several 6 cylinder engines. Although, acceleration suffers but still good enough for city trips. It is also reliable and maintenance cost is moderate which all add up to increase your earning potentials. Don’t be deceived by the small exterior.. it is pretty spacious inside. Thanks to the small engine and short bonnet. The small bonnet and the low belt-line makes you feel like you are sitting up high. Estimated Price: Tokunbo – N2.5m.. Nigerian used – N1.5m (2008 model) Honda City https://i66.tinypic.com/fzan9w.jpg The Honda City is less popular but it goes head-to-head with the Yaris in terms of performance. It is reliable and the 1.5 litre 4 cylinder engine promises average fuel consumption of 32 mpg. There is also a 1.3 litre option if you want to settle for that. The 5th generation Honda City which was produced between 2008 and 2013 is more than enough to get the job done. The Tokunbo is pretty scarce so you’ll probably settle for a Nigerian used.. Estimated Price: Tokunbo – N2.65m.. Nigerian used – N1.35m (2009 model) Toyota Avensis https://i64.tinypic.com/2s954rk.jpg Avensis has various engine options: 1.8, 2.0 and camry’s 2.4 litre engine. But I bet you’re sticking with the 1.8 litre engine because transport business is more about the MPGs. You should be getting an average gas mileage of 27 mpg on your 1.8 litre Avensis which is good enough. It is undoubtedly strong and reliable.. It is also slightly bigger than the Corolla with more premium feel. Estimated Price: Tokunbo – N3.1m.. Nigerian used – N1.8m (2008 model) Yes, Camry didn’t make the list because the 2.4 litre engine will shortchange you on fuel.. You may also want to stay away from the Honda Civic due to window and AC and a few suspension issues.. For Hyundai and Kia, cost of maintenance parts is your number 1 justification for staying away. I wish you success in your existing or prospective transport business. Don’t forget to rate, like, and share. https://autojosh.com/best-cars-for-uber-business/ |
Number Of Vehicles On Nigerian Roads According to National Bureau of Statistics, vehicle population in Nigeria is 11.46 million with commercial vehicles accounting for the largest share. What do you think about 11.46 million vehicles as against 193 million Nigerians.. Good or Bad? Don’t forget to comment, rate and share. https://autojosh.com/vehicle-population-in-q1-2017/

Land Rover and humanitarian adventurer (Kingsley Holgate) has committed to a bold goal in the fight against malaria, one of the biggest killers in Africa. Between 2017 and 2019, the Kingsley Holgate Foundation, in conjunction with Land Rover, will provide effective measures to more than 1.5 million people who need to combat the malaria-carrying Anopheles mosquito. This includes distribution of anti-malaria nets for mothers and young children, as well as comprehensive Indoor Residual Spraying treatments for houses in malaria-prone regions. “It’s a tragedy that young children can so easily fall victim to a disease that can be combated with such simple measures,” said Lisa Mallett, Marketing Director of Jaguar Land Rover. “Kingsley and his foundation have an incredible passion for raising awareness about malaria and fighting the disease. We want to go above and beyond in enabling that work, to ensure that even those in the remotest areas can have a higher quality of life.” Since 2014, the Kingsley Holgate Foundation has provided malaria protection for nearly 500 000 people. Through humanitarian expeditions across Africa, the Foundation has helped spread malaria awareness and continued to save and improve lives in remote areas of the continent. Over the last three years, 49,153 anti-malaria nets have been handed out. These nets are treated with a human-friendly insecticide that lasts up to four years, and provide cover for up to three people. Over the same period Land Rover and the Kingsley Holgate Foundation, through the Goodbye Malaria project, have applied Indoor Residual Spraying to homes, protecting more than 325,000 people from the malaria-carrying Anopheles mosquito. Over the next three years, the Kingsley Holgate Foundation will triple its efforts to combat this disease that claims more than 400,000 lives each year. For 2017, 2018 and 2019 the Foundation will partner with Land Rover to reach 507,000 people per year – for a total of 1.52 million lives saved by the end of 2019. This will be achieved by handing out up to 19,000 mosquito nets and conducting Indoor Residual Spraying of homes to protect a further 450,000 people, each year. “The global theme for the 2017 World Malaria Day is ‘End Malaria For Good’, and we believe that our work with Land Rover, over the next three years, will contribute to that,” said Kingsley Holgate. “Malaria is a deadly disease, but it is also easily preventable. We want to bring hope and salvation to the people of sub-Sahara Africa and ensure that millions of young lives are saved.” Over the past three years Land Rover and the Kingsley Holgate Foundation have distributed anti-malaria nets to 11 countries in Africa, spreading information about malaria prevention practices and recording data in affected areas. Data gathered during the expeditions include community details; GPS coordinates; names of community leaders; the number of nets distributed; details of malaria risk; and locations of the closest clinics or hospitals, to ensure sustainability and assist with follow-ups. At the start of 2016 nearly half of the world’s population was at risk to malaria, with the population of sub-Sahara Africa most exposed – accounting for 90% of new cases and 92% of deaths. Africans account for nine out of ten malaria deaths, with children under five years being the highest risk. Since 2000 the incidence of malaria – a treatable and preventable disease – has fallen 37% globally, according to the World Health Organisation*. In Africa alone incidence rates have fallen 42% over the last 15 years, while malaria mortality has plummeted 66% in the region. Simple tools like treated mosquito nets; effective medicines and safe indoor spraying have been effective at saving lives. Cloth Vs Leather Car Seat At some point in your life, you’ll likely have to make the decision: Cloth or leather. What’s it going to be? On some lower-priced vehicles, such as the 2001 Toyota Corolla, you’re stuck with cloth, since leather is not available even as an option. Drivers of certain automobiles, such as the 2015 Audi S8, are not even offered cloth upholstery. Their only options are leather and upgraded leather. But for the majority of vehicles, you get to choose—actually, you have to choose—between cloth and leather. On most cars, cloth comes standard while leather is available in the premium trims. Some car buyers consider leather seats to be nothing more than a pricey perk. But so much more goes into it. This article includes 10 rounds of decisions— 10 factors you should consider when choosing between cloth and leather. They include everything from your cold cash to the hot sun. Round 1: Price Adding the leather seat option to your brand new car can cost you between N250k and N1million or even more. This trend is usually extended to Tokunbo and Nigerian used cars as well.. although with smaller margins. Several prospective buyers perceive leather seats to be more luxurious and prestigious.. This leads to increased demand and a possible price hike. Winner: Cloth is cheaper. Round 2: Status Whether it’s a fashionable bomber jacket, an executive office chair, or the upholstery in your car, leather gives off a “money” vibe. It makes others—or at least you—think you’re rich. It’s an assumed indication of wealth and status, Leather cushions make you feel good and the car look good. Conversely, cloth upholstery is nothing but plain and practical. Winner: It’s leather, in style. Round 3: Hot Weather Besides price, the biggest beef against leather is how hot it gets. It can literally fry your bum bum in this Nigerian hot weather. The seats can get hot enough to melt the elastic in your underwear. If you leave the windows up on a sunny afternoon, the temperature in the car can exceed 90 degrees celsius. Unlike cloth, leather—especially black leather—absorbs heat. Skin that touches a car-seat surface at 90 degrees can suffer severe burn. When it comes to hot weather, leather isn’t just the least preferred; it’s dangerous! Winner: Cloth is cool. Round 4: Stains Top-grain leather typically wipes clean, but the same can’t be said for cloth. Most cloth stains, such as mud and ketchup, wipe off pretty easily. But nasty liquids as ink, blood and engine oil may never fully disappear. Winner: Leather is the clean winner. Round 5: Smell Cloth is porous. So the urine, vomit, body sweat, spilled drinks and ice cream soaks all the way into the cushions. The smell hardly leaves your car. However, most people enjoy breathing in the smell of leather, just like they savor the “new car” smell. Winner: Leather has it Round 6: Maintenance Leather is not just high-class, it’s high-maintenance. While the material is better at preventing stains, it needs to be cleaned and conditioned with particular products every few months. If you don’t clean the leather, it eventually will show signs of wear due to the sweat, dust, and dirt that seep into its pores. Without conditioning, it will harden and perhaps crack. Cloth upholstery needs some maintenance, including periodic vacuuming and cleaning but leather owners will tell you their seats need a lot more TLC. Winner: Cloth wins. Round 7: Comfort Leather comfort depends much on quality. Cheap leather is hard and uncomfortable, while pricier leather can be pleasingly soft. However, with cloth, you never go wrong when it comes to comfort. You don’t slide around or stick to it on hot days. In fact, it feels as good on your skin as a soft cotton T-shirt. Winner: We feel good about cloth. Round 8: Resale You can recoupe some extra bucks with your leather seat as discussed in round 1. But other factors come into play. Most Tokunbo and Nigerian used car buyers simply want a reliable vehicle at a low price. Few are still willing to spend some extra Naira for your clean leather seat. With fabric, you’ll hardly make an additional penny. Winner: The money is on leather. Round 9: Allergies If you have pet dander, dust or other allergies, you might want to consider leather seats. These allergens can settle into the cloth fabric, while with leather you can fully vacuum the seats or wipe them clean. Of course, even cars with leather seats have carpeted floors, which also harbor allergens. So leather seats can only reduce allergens in the car, not prevent them. Winner: Leather. Round 10: Morality Finally, some Nigerians are against shedding the blood of animals especially the vegetarians. Leather is usually gotten from cattle hide… and it’s not just cattle that are sacrificed, either. Some automakers, such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz, use Nappa leather on some of their luxury vehicles. Soft and flexible, Nappa leather comes from the skins of sheep, lambs, and young goats. Thus, leather remains a moral issue. Winner: Cloth is the guilt-free choice. And the Winner Is? In our 10-round contest, cloth and leather have equal points. But of course, it will always come down to a personal—and financial—decision. Leather is beautiful and makes a statement, but, is paying the extra money to endure the hot temperature extremes really worth it? Let us hear your choice and opinion in the comment section. Don’t forget to like, rate and share. Reference: Consumer Guide https://autojosh.com/cloth-vs-leather-car-seat-which-do-you-prefer/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove Marpol Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy Seun
