Currently, the in-thing is stylish and futuristically designed autonomous cars. All those Jetsons and Minority Report cars are now coming to reality.

This is evidenced by the Level 5 Autonomous car that was recently unveiled by Nevs at CES Asia. It is called NEVS InMotion Concept.

It is a futuristic electric vehicle with large glass doors and enclosed wheels. The exterior is captivating and the interior is spacious and highly flexible.

The car has three different seating configurations including private, social, and meeting… Amazing.. Isn’t it? Another pretty thing is, you can control the car with an app which allows you to adjust the seats, change the ambient lighting, and tweak the climate control system.

According to the Vice President Sales and Marketing of NEVS, (Jonas Hernqvist), “This design is starting from an interior perspective, with the intention of showing how people can add quality to their lives by filling the time of traveling with value, and not wasting it by being stuck behind the wheel, sometimes for hours just to get across the downtown areas.”

1. INVESTMENT IN THE NIGERIAN AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY INVESTMENT PLAN (NAIDP)
a) Requirements For Automotive (CKD/SKD) Assembly Operation In Nigeria
i. Acquisition of a suitable assembling space either owned or long lease with proof;
ii. A duly endorsed technical agreement for assembling with a clearly defined local content clause or provision with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) (direct investment by OEM as lead partner is preferred);

ii. Download form from NADDC website (www.naddc.gov.ng);
iii. Preparation of feasibility study for loan by the promoter;
iv. Submission of the form with 10 copies of feasibility studies with the attachments;
v. Visitation to the company to ascertain the status;
vi. Evaluation of the loan proposal to determine the viability or otherwise of the project i.e. the evaluation of Financial, Technical and Economic viability of the project;
vii. Recommendation of the evaluation to the Bank of Industry;
viii. Bank of Industry’s independent appraisal of the project;
ix. Bank of Industry’s recommendations to the Council;
x. NADDC concurrence to the Bank of Industry’s recommendation;
xi. Bank of Industry’s disbursement of the loan.

b) Timeline:
Processing to Bank of Industry (BOI) will be completed in two weeks after compliance with requirements.

A truck conveying noodles fell into a drainage system (gutter) due to brake failure.

Due to a new safety campaign that could include their rides, Toyota announced that approximately 32,000 units, from the 2016-2017 model Tacoma, which are powered by a V6 engine have been recalled.

According to Toyota, the engine crankshaft timing rotor in some of these pickup trucks could have been produced with excessive anti-corrosion coating, and as a result, the crank position sensor may malfunction.

If this happens, then the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Light) will light up and the vehicles might misfire, or even stall, in some cases, thus increasing the risk of a crash. In light of this, Toyota’s technicians seek to replace the crank position sensors with new ones, of an improved design.

It’s been only 3 Years since Lamborghini commenced building of its Huracan and has just manufactured its 8000th model.

The Huracan that made this feat is a Spyder finished in Grigio Lynx and bound for the United Kingdom. Lamborghini records a consistently improving sales where in 2016,a total of of 3,457 vehicles were sold.

Obviously, the Huracan is performing better than the Gallardo as it took Lamborghini 10 years to sell 14,022 Gallardos. At this rate, Lamborghini could sell over 25,000 Huracans before it’s successor arrives, an unprecedented figure in its 54 year history.

When it comes to automobile design, our french friends don’t carry last. To confirm this, Renault’s all-electric Trezor concept has just been crowned the “Most Beautiful Concept Car of the Year award“. The award was presented at Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy.

This is not the first time the Trezor is getting an award. It also won the “Concept Car of the Year” at the International Automobile Festival in Paris, and at the Geneva Car Design Awards.

“This award testifies to the fine judgment of great car collectors, who consider automobiles to be works of art. It recognizes the work of our designers who were part of this fantastic project,” said Renault Concept Design boss, Stephane Janin.

In order to claim this latest accolade, the Trezor had to meet a set of steep criteria, as both a working concept as well as a car with original styling. The Trezor is powered by a Formula E-derived electric motor, putting down 350 HP (260 kW) and 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) of torque.

As the largest model in the history of the brand, the new MINI Countryman offers enthralling spaciousness and driving properties combined with maximum flexibility. Aftermath of the visit of the Director General of The Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria, DICON, Major General B O Ogunkale to the Corporate Head Office of IVM Innoson Group at Emene Enugu State on the 17th May 2017, Chief Dr Innocent Chukwuma OFR on the invitation by the DICON GD, made a facility visit to the Headquarter of Defence Information Company of Nigeria DICON in Kaduna to inspect their facilities with the aim of determining areas of possible collaboration.

During the tour of the facilities, Dr. Chukwuma was amazed at the various types of production machinery and equipment installed at DICON and promised to give his best advisory contributions that will enable the factory to increase its production capacity. He assured the DG that with the collaboration of Innoson Group, DICON would meet the material requirement of the Nigerian Armed Forces as well as other security agencies through improved production.

In praising Dr. Chukwuma for his visit, Major General Ogunkale thanked Dr. Chukwuma for his giant strides and the visionary role he is playing towards our National development. He equally assured him that DICON would provide every necessary logistics to make their collaboration come to fruition.

Also on May 30th, 2017, Dr. Innocent Chukwuma OFR was inaugurated as one of the committee members of the Nigerian Industrial Policy and Competitiveness Advisory Council by the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osibanjo GCON at State House Abuja. The Council is expected to advise the Government on how to develop an industrial policy that would help the growth and development of industries in Nigeria.

It may be keeping its cards close to its chest but it is inevitable that Ferrari is developing a hardcore 488 GTB in the vein of the 458 Speciale. While we don’t know what it will be called, what it will look like or how fast it’ll be, it certainly won’t turn heads and shock onlookers quite like Misha Design’s new bodykit for the 488.

The tuning company is no stranger to wild and absurd bodykits for Ferraris and its latest creation is no different. However, whereas many of Misha’s previous designs have been more ‘yuck’ than ‘yay’, this new kit is actually pretty awesome, as long as you don’t think modifying a Ferrari is sacrilegious.

The overhaul starts at the front and incorporates a custom bumper that’s been fitted with a highly-impractical but highly-aggressive carbon fiber front splitter. The front end also includes an interesting, bulging design element on the hood.

Moving to the sides and you’ll immediately notice a set of custom side skirts inspired by those of the Ferrari 458 Speciale with small aerodynamic flics on each side. The rear then takes things to an entirely new level.

The bodykit includes a split ducktail spoiler, totally new grilles, a carbon diffuser, twin exhaust pipes and two body-colored elements running vertically down the middle of the rear. When combined with the matte grey finish and black wheels of this display car, you have one of the craziest 488’s we’ve ever laid eyes on.

When Ferrari releases the track-focused version of the mid-engine supercar, it will inevitably be more refined and functional than Misha’s creation. However, it almost certainly won’t be as in-your-face.

Zero pressure is just as bad as an expired extinguisher.. although it's not yet expired. You need to replace or recharge it.

There was a rescue operation along National Theatre inwards Costain by LRU. The victims were immediately treated by Paramedics and the damaged car was towed off the road.

You have probably seen a sign telling you switch of your phone in a filling station.

The real question is , does a phone or its signal really cause a fire or explosions.

Over the years loads of researchers and engineers have taken this up.The answer always comes to this –NO.

The signals coming out of your phone have very little possibility of igniting petrol.

However its possible a spark from your phone battery can cause a fire.You and I know the possibility of your battery sparking is also very low.

So what is the real cause of these fires ?,two words STATIC ELECTRICITY.

Static electricity gets generated by almost everything you do,especially when two bodies meet.According to experts these fires are primarily caused by static electricity.

So how can we prevent explosions ?.Lets find out :

1.Stay In Your Car
As far as I know Nigeria does not have a self service gas station(I stand to be corrected,I haven’t seen one).So you don’t need to come out of your car .Static can be generated as you come out of your car and your foot robs against the foot mat.

If you have to come out at all stay outside until the refueling is complete,and tap the top of your car to get rid of static.

If for some reasons you have to do the refueling yourself ,make sure one hand is placed on top of the car to get rid of static,you should infact get rid of static electricity before touching the pump.I am sure you would have noticed some fuel attendants doing this, sadly not all of them do it.

2.Turn Off Your Engine
This needs no explanation,turn off your engine ! .

3.Place The Keg On The Ground
Kegs can also generate static .So when you are filling a keg don’t place it in your boot or on your car.Place it on the ground so the earth would absorb any voltage present.

4.In The Worse Case Scenario
If in the worse case scenario a fire breaks out while filling up, DONT pull the nozzle out !.Leave it in the car.And move far far away.

NOTE:

You should still switch off your phone ,when refueling,just in case .

I have not been to other parts of the world .But I am sure of one thing ,Nigeria and its roads are very peculiar and sometimes weird.
What applies in other countries or other places might not be so here in Naija .
So what are those extra things you need to do to ensure your safety as a driver in Nigeria ?.I am not trying to paint our dear country black,but to help protect people.

Lets find out .

1.Check And Check Again After Mechanic Fixes
A considerably large percentage of Nigerian mechanics are trained “locally”,not professionally.
Yes ,nobody is above mistakes ,but these guys can be very careless at times.So after a fix ,check and check again yourself ,make sure bolts and nuts are properly tightened ,especially the tires.

2.Don’t Depend on Road Signs
Few days ago,a man drove into a ditch ,created by construction workers.There was no warning sign.
In Naija assume every road is dangerous ,anticipate anything.Be ready always.

3.Sometimes Don’t Trust Traffic Lights
I am not saying you should disobey traffic lights .But sometimes they just malfunction.An example I once saw is the traffic light just after Ransome Kuti Memorial School en route Ojuelegba/Mushin ,it just gets stuck on one color for a very very long time(I hope it has been fixed).
And of course our danfo and keke drivers don’t respect it too.Be safe !

4.Don’t Argue With The Men In Black
When you get stopped by them,don’t try to argue(except you are totally sure you know what you are doing).Don’t also try to be fast and furious,some peoples lives have ended this way.Sometimes this police men are drunk,so be safe.

5.Don’t Drive At Night
I always over emphasize this for very good reasons.Nigerians are not really nocturnal except perpetrators of evil.So try as much as possible to avoid traveling at night.

6.Slow Down When Driving Through Internal Roads
This is not exactly for your safety ,but the safety of children.
When driving through streets and internal roads ,please slow down,kids play on these roads and sometimes cross the road without looking.

Just after Porsche recalled about 52,000 Macans, Audi is recalling 240,487 Q5 and Q7 SUVs. This is due to the same fuel leak issue that affected the Macan which is built on the same platform with the Q5.

The models affected are 2013-2017 Q5 and 2015 Q7. The problem is from a fuel pump flange which may crack and allow fuel to leak. This is potentially dangerous as it may turn the vehicle into a rolling explosive. According to some owners.

According to the recall, the vehicles with cracks will have the affected parts replaced while those without leaks will have a protective film applied to keep them from leaking in the future.

In the past, Audi recalled 143,214 units of this same vehicle models. That recall affected the 2009-2012 models of the Q5 and 2007-2012 models of the Q7.

The further improved high-revving engine outperforms its predecessor in terms of power output and torque. The enhancements implemented by the engineers include higher injection pressure, new turbochargers, more powerful lubrication and cooling systems, plus a modified, lighter exhaust system, which generates an even clearer rendition of the unmistakable M soundtrack. Thus equipped, the V8 propels the sedan to still greater feats of dynamic performance. However, it is the combination of engine, M xDrive and eight-speed M Steptronic, even more than the upgrading of engine’s technical specifications, that really sharpens the high-performance character of the new BMW M5; it takes the dynamic driving experience to a far higher level than the relatively moderate increase in power alone would allow.

Hardware and software with an M-specific set-up.

The principal hardware components of M xDrive are based on those of the BMW xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system and the Active M Differential, while the M-specific driving dynamics control software ensures innovative deployment. The drivetrain has been reinforced for greater rigidity and strength to factor in the high torque, rear-biased configuration and 2WD option. While the transfer case splits a portion of the engine’s drive between the front and rear wheels in a smoothly adjustable ratio (depending on requirements), the Active M Differential is responsible for then distributing the drive between the rear wheels. This active control element is part of the M xDrive system’s functionality and its locking effect can be varied between zero and 100 per cent, as the situation demands. This ensures enhanced traction, agility and handling stability when the car is being driven in a very sporty manner or on roads with differing levels of grip – i.e. exactly when it is needed. Since M xDrive includes M-specific dynamics control capability, stabilising interventions from the DSC system are only required in extreme situations. And so the engine’s huge power can be converted into propulsive force with virtually zero losses. The upshot of all this is that the new BMW M5 can be guided with even greater precision and directional accuracy, responds sensitively and directly to the driver’s inputs and thus requires few steering corrections when driving at the limit.

À la carte handling dynamics: 4WD, 4WD Sport or 2WD.

Every time the engine is started, the BMW M5 defaults to 4WD mode with DSC on. Even in this basic configuration, which initially allows a certain amount of slip at the rear wheels to produce the agility for which M models are renowned, M xDrive offers tangible benefits in situations such as accelerating out of bends. The sedan completes the 0 to 100 km/h or 200 km/h sprints in the sort of times that leave its predecessor trailing in its wake and will make fans of sporty driving everywhere instantly prick up their ears.

Drivers with an even greater thirst for sporty action can tap into the car’s full performance potential by engaging a second configuration: M Dynamic Mode (MDM) with the M xDrive system’s 4WD Sport mode has been configured for ultra-sporty and dynamic handling. As a result, the new BMW M5 becomes far more agile than in the standard configuration and channels even more drive to the rear wheels. At the same time, MDM permits far greater wheel slip, allowing the enthusiastic driver to send the sedan into a controlled drift and experience the remarkable agility of the new BMW M5 – a familiar trait of M models – to the full. The onset of oversteer is telegraphed in good time while the linear increase of sideslip angle makes it easily controllable, particularly as MDM aids stability at the limits of performance.

With DSC deactivated, there is a choice of three modes (4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD). In 4WD mode, M xDrive has a neutral set-up that lends itself to optimum controllability and outstanding traction. This is of particular benefit on roads that are in mediocre or poor condition. At the same time, 4WD mode also lets the driver explore the dynamic performance capabilities of the new BMW M5 with the DSC control system deactivated.

Engaging 4WD Sport mode alters the M xDrive configuration for even greater agility and sportiness. The blend of absolute precision, delightful handling and phenomenal traction it reveals is a sure-fire route to supreme driving pleasure. 4WD Sport mode’s set-up has been fine-tuned with the assistance of highly experienced specialists and is geared towards track use in dry conditions.

With 2WD mode activated, the new BMW M5 offers the keen driver the experience of driving a high-performance sedan with rear-wheel drive only, delivering a pure form of driving enjoyment that captivates in its own unique way. The combination of incredibly agile handling, terrific feel and exceptional controllability can be attributed to the Active M Differential.

The display and control concept.

The driver-focused cockpit of the new BMW M5 now has an even clearer layout courtesy of the lowered instrument panel with freestanding Control Display. The M-style instrument cluster featuring two classical circular dials and red needles also accommodates an additional digital speedometer on the left-hand side, while the rev counter on the right includes a variable rpm pre-warning field and sporty shift lights when the Head-Up Display is switched on. In the centre of the instrument cluster, the driver will find the readouts for the gear selection, Drivelogic shift program, M xDrive mode and M1/M2 set-up, plus the drive and suspension settings currently engaged. When the Head-Up Display is activated, key information can be projected onto the windscreen so it appears in the driver’s immediate field of view. The graphics of the M view option developed for dynamic driving have been completely revised and M view now also allows navigation information to be displayed, if desired. The projection area of the Head-Up Display in the new BMW M5 has increased in size by around 70 per cent.

On top of the redesigned gear selector can be found the three-position rocker switch for selecting the Drivelogic shift programs. The P button below it for the parking lock is also within easy reach. In typical M fashion, the gears of the new eight-speed M Steptronic transmission can be changed using both the selector lever and the shift paddles on the steering wheel, while drivers can also opt for the automated D mode. In the manual S mode, meanwhile, the M Steptronic allows multiple downshifts, resulting in a significant reduction in shift times when performing sporty driving manoeuvres, such as braking hard into corners.

As on the outgoing model, the M sports steering wheel includes two individually configurable M Drive buttons (M1, M2) that allow the driver to retrieve a previously stored set-up. The buttons have been completely redesigned and are prominently located. This ensures they are even easier to reach and, in customary M style, offer excellent speed of use. As well as the M xDrive mode and the Drivelogic shift program, the engine and damper mapping, Servotronic steering characteristics and readouts in the Head-Up Display can also be memorised. The desired settings can be stored via the iDrive menu. An icon in the instrument cluster indicates to the driver when a stored M1/M2 set-up is activated.

A short press of the DSC button in the centre console activates M Dynamic Mode (MDM) and a long press engages DSC off mode. When DSC off mode is activated, the M xDrive settings menu appears in the Control Display at the same time. Plus, it is now possible to select 4WD, 4WD Sport or 2WD mode using either the iDrive Controller or the touchscreen function. Well, Toyota is now tired of their brand being associated with bland and boring.. and the CEO, Akio Toyoda is set to change all that perception.. The Japanese automaker is now on a mission to win back enthusiasts with exciting cars like the Celicas and Supras we used to love. "Until now, there were times when Toyota’s cars were called 'boring' or were said to be lacking in character," he told USA Today.

This announcement came after Toyota experienced a drop in net income due to high currency rates.. they also lost their position as the world's biggest automaker to Volkswagen last year. I guess they are now out to turn all this around.

This is why Toyota has started to make a paradigm shift.. designing exciting cars like the 2018 Camry, 86 sports car and FT-1 concept which the next Supra would be modeled after.

Mercedes Benz has unveiled the public transport of the future.. It is the Mercedes Benz self driving bus which will operate itself without a driver.

It interacts with its surroundings using the Daimler City Pilot Technology which includes 10 cameras and radar systems. This technology will enable the bus communicate with the traffic light network and apply its automatic brakes when necessary.

The bus is divided into three zones: a service zone at the front, an express zone in the middle for passengers traveling short distance and a lounge zone at the back for those traveling long distance.
The bus was tested in Amsterdam, Netherlands where it performed well.

For the inauguration of President Emmanuel Macron, PSA created this special DS 7 Crossback – based on the flagship model in the French automaker's premium lineup, but upgraded for the purpose.

The Presidential DS 7 is done up in a special ink-blue paint, with a black leather interior, official state insignia and flags, and gold details on the wheels and in the cabin. Most unique about this particular DS 7, though, is the roof: the state limousine has a convertible top to transform the crossover into a parade car so that the gathered masses on the Champs-Elysées can catch a glimpse of their new head of state – even in the rain.

It took Porsche 54 years to produce one million iconic 911 models.. and Porsche says over 70% of all the 911s they have made are still "ready to drive today".

This priceless one millionth unit special edition comes with 194mph in Irish Green.. and it looks gorgeous. If you are loving and thinking of buying this particular 911, it's probably not for sale as Porsche says they will take it on a world tour from Europe to America and Asia amongst others.

After the tour, the 911 will be taking to its resting place which is the Porsche Museum.

Back in the days, there was nothing like speed limits.. therefore, no speed tickets. However, getting a speed ticket today in some countries is as common as having lunch.

The question is, which vehicle was the first to get a speed ticket? When? Where? and at what speed? It is the Arnold Benz Motor Carriage which police caught in 1896 doing 8mph (13km/h). Another interesting thing is the police officer was even riding on a bicycle.

Walter Arnold who owns the carriage was arrested for driving at 4 times the speed limit on Paddock Green in Kent. Someone please help me calculate the speed limit at that time

At that time, the speed limit was 2mph (3km/h) and all cars had to be led by a man on foot who was meant to be waving a red flag at all times. See suffer. However, the laws were abolished in same 1896 when the speed limit was increased to 14mph (23km/h).

Just thinking, is it possible that today's speed limits can someday be increased to 1,000mph (1,609km/h)?
