Your car tyres remain a very vital part of your car that is supposed to be in good condition at all times. Your tyre is meant to provide a safe grip with the ground in all situations to ensure good driveability of your car. Anything that makes your tyre deviate from giving your car safe grip to the ground should be avoided.

Below are the warning signs that indicate it’s time to change your tyres.

1. Bulges:

Bulges on any part of your trye are another clear indication that your tyre needs to be replaced. The bulges sprout out when the rigid internal frame of your tyre get damaged.

These bulges can be caused by driving your car with low tyre pressure, hitting potholes or kerbs.

When there is bulge(s), it is highly advised you change the tyre even if it looks fine.

2. Age:

Pay attention to the age of your tyre. It is not very hard to check the age of your tyre. There are a 10-11 digits Tyre Identification Number (TIN) written on the sidewall of every tyre. The TIN tells you a lot of information about your tyre including the weak and year it was manufactured. Expired tyres need to be changed.

3. Cracks:

Car tyres are almost at all times exposed to varying weather conditions. Some of these exposures can cause UV rays to break down the chemicals and oils used by the tyre manufacturers. When this occurs, the strength and flexibility of your tyres might get compromised leading to brittle-like texture of the tyre.

This will often look like little cracks or holes in the tyre itself.

These cracks on your tyres could be a sign of a future blowout. So it is definitely something you need to get checked soon.

4. Vibrations:

It is normal for your car to vibrate especially when plying bumpy roads. There are several causes of car vibration; one of them is bad tyres. An internal damage to the tyre can cause irregular spinning of the tyre, hence vibrations.

If you start noticing some vibrations even when on smooth road, it can be an indicator something could be wrong with your tyre. Inspect your tyre to find out what the problem is.


5. Wear on one side:

You would probably need new tyres if they have severely worn out.

Tread wear on the center strip of the tyre is a sign of over inflation, while wear on the edges is as a result of under inflation.

Tinubu Square is an open space landmark located in Broad Street, Lagos Island, Lagos State, Nigeria.

It is the epicenter of one of the key transport nodes of Lagos state. It interconnects many parts of Lagos state – Island and mainland.

Originally, it was named “Ita Tinubu” in memory of Madam Efunroye Tinubu, a prominent slave trader and businesswoman.

Later, during the First Republic, it was renamed “Independence Square”, and then later Tinubu Square.

The square was last remodeled in 2017 by the Lagos state government.

The paint job done on a car is one of the very first things the eyes sees when gazed upon a car. We are all privileged to see the exterior of these cars without seeking for permission. How and what the interior look like is a different ball game.

Whenever you look at any car, you’ll either be delighted with the colour or be pissed off why the owner have such paint jobs on them.

Whatever paint job a car owner decides to go for is solely their business but some people are destined not to have a good taste when it comes to colour combination. There are various car makers in the world. Each and every one of these car makers always want to stand out amongst the rest in one way or the other, hence the competition.

These car makers introduce new features as the years passes by in a bid to make their car better and to suit the demands and tastes of their customers. Most of the times, the make sense, other times, they just overdo. In a bid to make some features top notch, they end up complicating things. A lot have been added to the modern cars to make them appear or serve better of which make the cars more luxurious and more interesting to use.

One thing is sure; you can’t just have it all in one car. One thing must be traded for the other.

Today, we want to talk about some of the things we consider to be the worst trends in these newer cars produced recently.

We ask again, are these the worst trends in modern cars?

1. Replacing everything on the dashboard with touch screen console:

If you’re observant enough and follow up the newer cars being produced, you must have notices that touchscreen is replacing the conventional buttons and knobs we use to have in cars.

Come to think of it, this seems like operating a mobile phone when you’re driving. All your attention is needed just to adjust the volume of the stereo or AC (forget about gesture control).

The touchscreen is okay when you are not in motion or when you are driving very slowly in a less busy road.

Driving distractions should be reduced, and not the other way round.

2. Fake exhaust pipes:

Automakers can go extra miles for aesthetics. Making fake exhaust pipes is one the creepy things they do to achieve that.

The original exhaust pipes are faced down under the car where you can’t see them, and then they install the fake exhaust pipes you can see.

Mercedes and Audi are very fond of doing this. Other car brands practice it as well.

3. Fake engine noise:

Everything is just becoming faked these days. There are some cars what are very quiet in the inside that the manufacturers have to introduce fake engine noise using the infotainment system.

When they realize it’s not loud enough as they want, they synthesize the various engine noises they want and then load it into the car infotainment. BMW M5 is a victim of this faking.

4. Replacing side mirrors with cameras:

It appears side mirrors add a very distinctive beauty to cars. Taking them off and replacing it with cameras will make it look weird.

When you compare the old and this 2019 Murano, you’ll see the 2019 Murano’s exterior add a more pronounced front V-motion grille, redesigned LED headlights and taillights, new LED fog lights, new 18-inch and 20-inch aluminum-alloy wheel designs and three fresh new exterior colors – Sunset Drift Chromaflair, Mocha Almond Pearl and Deep Blue Pearl.

Interior:

Added to the exterior new look, the interior looks luxurious. It has these new semi-aniline leather-appointed seats with diamond-quilted inserts and contrasting micro-piping trim for the seats, door armrests and center console lid for the Murano Platinum grade.

Some notable changes in the interior include three new interior trim finishers: Dark Wood-Tone (Platinum), Light Wood-Tone (S, SV, SL) and Metallic (S, SV, SL). In addition, all 2019 Murano models feature Nissan’s innovative Rear Door Alert and Intelligent Driver Alertness.

Safety features and technologies:

The 2019 Nissan Murano comes with a revised Safety, security and driver assistance technologies. There is the availability of Nissan Safety Shield 360, a suite of six advanced active safety and driver-assist technologies designed to help provide 360 degrees of active driver assistance, crash avoidance and pedestrian detection.

Bearing safety in mind, Nissan added some mind blowing technology to the 2019 Nissan Murano. Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist and Rear Automatic Braking. All these are to ensure the safety of the driver, the car and that of other road users.

Safety Shield 360 is standard on Murano Platinum and as part of the SL Technology Package. The 2019 Murano also adds standard 2nd row supplemental side air bags and front passenger supplemental knee air bag. Nissan’s innovative Rear Door Alert (RDA) system is also standard on all 2019 Murano grades.

Also standard on all grade levels is NissanConnect® featuring Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™, with 8.0-inch color display with multi-touch control. Murano SL and above grades add standard NissanConnect with Navigation, which is revised for 2019 to include Door-to-Door navigation with 3D building graphics and satellite imagery, online POI search and premium traffic information.


Engine:

Every 2019 Murano comes equipped with a 260-horsepower 3.5-liter DOHC V6 connected to an advanced Xtronic transmission. Murano is available in front-wheel drive or Intelligent All-Wheel Drive.


Trim Levels:

The all new and refreshed 2019 Nissan Murano will come in four well-equipped premium grade levels: S, SV, SL and Platinum. The SV Premium Package featuring Power Panoramic Moonroof, Intelligent Around View® Monitor, Bose® Premium sound system with 11 high-performance speakers and more; and the SL Technology Package with Safety Shield 360 technology, Traffic Sign Recognition and Power Panoramic Moonroof.

General Motors recently announced the massive layoffs of her workers and will also be shutting down five North American facilities. One of the reasons for the shutdown is that North Americans want trucks, hatchbacks and SUVs, and not just sedans. Sedans please them no more and GM is responding to the changes in customer behaviour.

This customer behaviour is very evident in the sales record of these sedans; their sales are very poor. GM is therefore planning for a global re-organization of their business, hence the recent development.

The soon-to-be-closed facilities will end the production of these 6 sedans by the end of 2019.


1. Chevrolet Cruze:

Out of the 6 cars that GM plans to stop producing, this is the car that can be commonly seen in Nigeria when compared to the rest. The car has been in production since 2008. In the whole of North America, Mexico was the country to receive the car.

2. Cadillac CT6:

We all know that bike aka ‘okada’ has been a savior in one way or the other most especially for commuters in Lagos. The time you are meant to spend on some insane traffic in Lagos can be cut short just by boarding a bike. They are relatively costlier when compared to buses anyways.

There are a lot of things most commercial bike riders get wrong and it has in one way or the other cause more harm than good. In a bid to keep to time, make more runs and avoid traffic, some commercial bike riders pull insane stunts with their passenger’s life on the line.

These are the 8 things most commercial bike riders do wrongly in Lagos


1. Overloading:
Conventionally, a bike is meant to carry just the motorcyclist and one passenger but that’s not what it is here in Lagos. Some bikers do carry more than one. Some carry up to 3 adults without being deterred. Aside from carrying humans, some bikers overload their bikes with lots of things that are not meant for the bike.

Some go to the extent of carrying several bags of rice and several other things that can easily make them lose control of the bike.


2. Poor Riders Protection:
Driving with no protection is the order of the day for commercial bike riders in Lagos. No helmets, no reflective, no gloves and so on.

Out of 10 bike riders you see in Lagos, just 1 wears a helmet. Helmet is the main and most common protection to be worn by bikers. This is to reduce the impact of an accident to the head.

It is also improper to ride with slippers and with unfastened helmet.



3. Meandering:
Most bike riders fall victim of this. They are not patient enough with the traffic flow. They end up making it through spaces that are very dangerous for them and their passengers.



4. Improper overtaking:
This is among the major characteristics of a commercial bike rider in Lagos; overtaking cars improperly. You see a lot of bike riders overtaking from the right hand side which is abnormal. Some try to make it through the middle of two vehicles.

Do not overtake by the right hand side of any vehicle.



5. Carrying a passenger with out-sized object:

If possible, actuate your turn signal when you are 50-100 meters from the place you want to turn to. This will send the proper message to every other car coming behind you to give way.

3. Abruptly cutting-in after overtaking:

There is much to overtaking most especially on a highway when cars are on high speed. It’s not just moving past a car; a lot are to be considered. You have to be calculative enough to ensure that you can make the overtaking once you start. What does this mean? Check for cars coming in the opposite direction; is the distance enough to accommodate the time you overtake?

You should also ensure you know the condition of your car before overtaking. Some cars are not very responsive even when you slam the throttle to the mat. So you have to consider all those things.

One of the first major projects embarked upon by the Adams Oshiomhole administration was the rehabilitation of the Kings Square, Benin city, otherwise known as Ring Road.

Prior to that time, the Ring Road and adjoining streets were in terrible states. There were motor parks at every junction. This caused heavy traffic congestion. Refuse heaps littered the roads, and walking around the Ring Road was a thing of fear due to robbery attacks and activities of pickpockets.

To restore the beauty of the Ring Road, Oshiomhole sacked all motor-parks around the Ring Road, including the one owned by Chief Osamede Adun popularly known as Bob Izua.

Oshiomhole reconstructed all roads leading to the Ring Road to dual carriageways. These roads were fitted with walkways and streetlights.

A water fountain worth N200million was built at the Ring Road.

The Ring Road became a beauty to behold. The street lighting around the Ring Road restored people’s confidence to walk around the place without fears of being robbed.

Today, the Ring Road is speedily slipping back into its former sorry state.

The gardens created around the Ring Road are unattended to. Gardens created in front of institutions, such as the House of Assembly, Central Hospital, First Bank are unkempt.

Rails erected around many of the gardens have been destroyed. Many of the flower pots in adjoining streets are without flowers. Pavements in the adjoining streets now serve as refuse dumps.

The most affected is the epicenter of Ring Road. That spot houses the Benin National Museum. That location is where the water fountain constructed by the Oshiomhole administration is sited.

The Water Fountain that once attracted thousands of fun seekers to the Ring Road, Benin city, has completely decayed.

National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) is exhibiting samples of Made-in-Nigeria vehicles by various local assembly plants at the on-going Lagos International Trade Fair holding at Tafawa Balewa Square from November 2nd to 11th, 2018.

The exhibition is part of the intensified commitment of NADDC to promote the patronage of Made-in-Nigeria vehicles and locally produced automotive components and parts.

Among vehicles on display at the NADDC pavilion are assorted brands from Stallion Motors, Dana Motors, Peugeot Automobile Nigeria and Proforce Defense Industry.

Special attraction at the NADDC pavilion is the heavily fortified armoured personnel carrier (APC) being showcased by Proforce. The vehicle is armoured with high caliber ballistic materials that are equally used by internationally acclaimed armour companies in Germany, United States, Israel among others.
