Car TalkIf You Have Kids In Your Compound, Don’t Be In A Hurry To Drive Out (picture) by AutoJoshNG(op): 6:09pm On Jul 20, 2018
Saw this picture and it so much drew my attention.

This is a kid who perfectly fits in under the fender of this car. Anything can happen as it is.

Kids play a lot and would always move randomly wherever they find themselves. It is very important to drive with caution and be very careful when driving around kids. This should be adhered to whether you have kids or not.

Keeping in mind these their unpredictable nature is of the essence. Always pay much attention if you live around or in a compound where kids conjugates.

Always check around your car for kids before driving out of the compound.

Don’t drive off with speed out of the compound and be very watchful.

TravelMany Feared Dead As Train Crushes Danfo Bus In Agege, Lagos (photos) by AutoJoshNG(op):
Tragedy struck earlier today at Agege axis of Lagos state. It occured when a train crushed a commercial bus commonly referred to as “danfo”.

Eye witnesses reported that the train derailed from its track in order to avoid a collision with the commercial bus that parked on the railway track. The reason why the bus driver parked his bus on the railway track is yet to be determined.

On sighting the stationary danfo on the train track, the train driver started blaring his horn as a signal to the bus driver to drive the bus off the track.

However, and ostensibly due to panic, the driver could not drive his car out of the way. Instead, he reversed the bus, which led to the collision with the oncoming train.

Many are feared dead from the accident. Several people who hung on top of the train fell off and were injured as a result of the impact from the train’s collision with the danfo.

So, we dug into the archives, and guess what we found?

It’s an old picture of the popular Marina Street in Lagos Island, Lagos state.

The picture also features the legendary General Post Office, situated on Marina Street. The picture is believed to have been taken in 1973.

However, our attention was drawn to the radical transformation of the Marina street.

For instance, the distance between the Marina waterfront – then and now.

What other difference do you notice?

Travel7 Things You Can Do To Avoid Being Drowsy While Driving – Innoson by AutoJoshNG(op): 11:31am On Jul 19, 2018
Being drowsy or sleepy behind the wheel isn’t only unpleasant; it can be dangerous. Drowsy driving can make you feel more stressed and more impatient. It can also make you drive faster. Together with drunk driving and distracted driving, it’s one of the leading causes of serious accidents.

Avoiding drowsy driving can be a bigger challenge than avoiding drunk driving. While you can consciously choose not to drink before you drive, you cannot choose not to be drowsy. Sometimes drowsiness can creep on you on the road.

Still, there are many things you can do to avoid being drowsy while driving. Here are some of the most effective strategies you can use to drive safe.

1. Take a good night’s sleep before you drive
Sleeping at least seven or eight hours a night will give your body enough time to rest. Even if you have to drive later in the day, the cumulative effect of sleeping well for a few nights in a row will help you be more rested. By contrast, if you sleep only a few hours, you’re bound to feel drowsy later in the day regardless of the strategies you use.

2. Take a pre-drive nap
Even a quick nap will help prevent drowsiness at night. However, don’t expect to be able to drive all night. You’ll still need to stop and rest after a few hours of driving at most. Most night drivers rely on kola nuts to stay awake when driving at night but it is not an effective way of preventing drowsy driving.

The good news is that pulling over to a safe place to take a 20-minute nap in your car can keep you going for a few hours more. That said, give yourself at least 20 minutes to fully wake up after your second nap.

3. Avoid medication that can make you drowsy
If you’re undergoing a treatment that comes with side effects that include drowsiness, consider stopping it in time for a long drive. However, if the treatment is essential to your well-being, ask someone else to drive you instead, or choose another mode of transport. Take a plane if you have to.

4. Don’t drive between 00:00 – 02:00 am and 4:00 – 6:00
Crashes are highly like to occur during these hours, according to drowsydriving.org. These are hours when our bodies are used to feeling drowsy, so there’s not much you can do about it. When you have no choice but to drive between these hours, remember to take frequent breaks.

5. Don’t drink
Even a small quantity of alcohol – like half a glass of beer – can make you drowsy. Even if you don’t exceed the maximum blood alcohol concentration, your driving ability will still be impaired. Alcohol may appear to have a sobering effect, but the drowsiness that always follows is a stronger and longer-lasting effect.

6. Take in a good dose of caffeine
Caffeine improves alertness and concentration and can ward off drowsiness and sleep. Apart from coffee, you’ll find it in black tea, green tea, dark chocolate, and non-alcoholic energy drinks. That said, mind your doses. Too much caffeine can induce a state of irritation and raise your blood pressure.

Also, remember that the effects of caffeine tend to wear off after a few hours. It’s then that drowsiness can make a stronger return.

Finally, you can only avoid drowsiness while driving up to a certain point. If your body is tired or undergoing treatment, you have to listen to the cue it’s giving you and stop driving. Pull over to the side of the road, in a safe place, and give yourself the gift of sleep. It’s better to reach your destination late than not at all, don’t you agree?

TravelMan Drives Out A Burning SUV From A Fire Scene In Lagos (Photos) by AutoJoshNG(op): 2:44pm On Jul 18, 2018
In an act of sheer bravery, this young Nigerian got into a burning Toyota Prado SUV, in a fire scene, and drove it away from further damage.

This event occurred earlier today at a building on Engineering Close, off Idowu Taylor street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

The inferno was reported to have been caused by some individuals who resorted to refueling a power generator directly from a fuel tanker while the generator was still on.

Thankfully, there was no case of human casualty.

Indeed, this young hero deserves some accolades.

CareerIs Sweeping Of Roads The Riskiest Job In Lagos? (see PHOTOS) by AutoJoshNG(op): 1:53pm On Jul 18, 2018
This has to be one of the riskiest jobs in Lagos state. It is the job of cleaning roads and streets in the state.

The job involves sweeping up the ever-busy roads in Lagos, even right in the midst of very active vehicular movements.

Work, for these road managers, resumes at 6am – just at the time when motorists in Lagos are known to race to work at dizzying speed.

Even more worrisome is the fact that many of those recruited and exposed to such high-risk activity are people well over 50 years old. This is in a state with a reputation for high number of reckless and “one-way” drivers.

https://i65.tinypic.com/b806lx.jpg

Some of these road managers have been reportedly hit by motorists. Such occurrence has left them either severely injured or dead.

That notwithstanding, in a society with a terrific shortage of employment opportunities – choices are quite limited for these road managers.

By the way, this job is currently being carried out by individuals employed by the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI).

In 2017, the Lagos state government set up the Cleaner Lagos Initiative (CLI) as a comprehensive plan to privatize all aspects of waste management in the city.

https://i67.tinypic.com/23sveo4.jpg

Currently, Lagos state has the record of having the largest amount of domestic and industrial waste in the world. This is put at 13,000 tonnes per day. This is followed by New York’s 10,000 tonnes per day.

CLI has an ambitious goal to make Lagos the cleanest and greenest city in Africa by 2025. Currently, the former war-torn Kigali, capital city of Rwanda is ranked the cleanest city in Africa.

CLI recruited 27,000 community sanitation workers (CSW) or "road managers" across the state. The recruitment was publicized via various media channels.

PoliticsRe: See How Ambode Made Primero The Sole BRT Operator In Lagos by AutoJoshNG(op): 12:28pm On Jul 17, 2018
PoliticsSee How Ambode Made Primero The Sole BRT Operator In Lagos by AutoJoshNG(op):
17 March 2008 marked the beginning of a revolution in the mass transit sector in Lagos state.

That was the date that the first phase of the Lagos BRT was launched.

The introduction of the Lagos BRT significantly ushered the state away from the unenviable example of a classic urban disorder.

The BRT is a mass transit system that employs dedicated lanes, enabling buses to avoid traffic – and by extension, ensure shorter duration of journeys.

In its first year, the Lagos BRT transported an average of 200,000 passengers per day. In 2012, it carried 51 million passengers, averaging around 140,000 a day. This arrangement was very lucrative for the operator. However, in no time, the operator became overwhelmed by the patronage.

In 2012, the Lagos State Bus Asset Management Limited (LAGBUS), the company in charge of managing and operating the BRT service, began giving out franchises to private investors. Soon, 10 companies were licensed to acquire BRT buses and integrate them in the Lagos BRT scheme.

Note that LAGBUS is a management collaboration of the Lagos state government/LAMATA with the Lagos state NURTW.

As of 2016, the number of BRT franchisees had increased to about 37.

In 2016, the Ambode-led government of Lagos state abruptly banned the operation of the LAGBUS-supervised buses including those under its franchise scheme. The reason giving for the ban was constant breaches of the franchise agreement the operator signed in 2007.

Over 36 BRT franchisees, together with the original NURTW-owned BRT buses were affected. The ban prevented them from plying the very lucrative BRT corridors to load or drop passengers. They could only use the road like other private vehicles.

On November 7, 2016, the sudden banned sparked off a protest by the franchisees.

The ground for their protest was that they still had a running contract with LAGBUS – and by extension the Lagos state government/LAMATA.

Then curiously, a certain private company – Primero Transport Services Limited – became the sole BRT bus operator.

https://i68.tinypic.com/w7fxuu.jpg

Indeed, and just like the exclusivity accorded to companies like Visionscape and Alpha-Beta Consulting – buses owned by Primero Transport Services Limited were accorded the exclusive rights to operate on the BRT corridors in Lagos state.

Even more curious was that the details of the contract Primero Transport Services Limited signed with LAMATA remains shrouded in secrecy.

For instance, was there a terminal date for the contract?

What happens when the company fails in its responsibility of fulfilling its obligations to the public?

https://i65.tinypic.com/2ikclfs.jpg

On May 16, 2016, the Lagos State Government donated 50 brand new high-capacity Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicles to Primero Transport Services Limited. The reason given for the donation was to mitigate effects of new pump price of petrol on its residents.

Why should a state government donate buses to a private profit-making company?

Was the Lagos state government’s largess to Primero part of the mysterious contract they signed?

https://i64.tinypic.com/2je1zcm.jpg

Primero Transport Services Limited was established in 2014.

Its BRT bus service was launched on 12 November 2015 by His Excellency Mr. Akinwumi ‘Dapo Ambode. The company commenced its BRT operation with 434 Youtong high capacity buses. It currently operates the BRT buses service on the Ikorodu to CMS corridor.

The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Primero Transport Services Limited is Mr Fola Tinubu.

SportsN´Golo Kanté And The Mini Cooper S Car He Drives (PHOTO) by AutoJoshNG(op): 10:01am On Jul 17, 2018
The French World Cup-winning squad is an assemblage of multi-millionaires.

The total-net worth of all the players in the team amounts to the GDP of some countries.

Indeed, the members of the French national football squad are well rewarded for their sporting enterprise.

With their fat paychecks, they can all afford to live the luxurious life. For instance, most of them drive luxurious super-automobiles. Even the 19-year-old Kylian Mbappe owns a Ferarri, BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Range Rover and more.

Interestingly, one of these multimillionaires prefer to live a life that draws no attention. He is N´Golo Kanté.

https://i68.tinypic.com/c28i9.jpg

Kante plays for the English premiership club, Chelsea FC. He has a networth of about $13milion.

His weekly salary at Chelsea is about £120,000.per week. That translates to about a staggering half a million pounds a month.

However, despite his fat pay cheques, the midfielder, who was named best French player of 2017, he isn’t one to show off.

While most of his colleagues are driving round in luxury motors, Kanté is happy with a Mini Cooper S, which costs just about N9.6million.

https://i65.tinypic.com/o9kfnk.jpg

According to him, “I’ve never been a car lover, when I was young my ambition was never to have a car or anything like that”,

Kanté, bought the Mini Cooper S while he was playing for Leicester City FC.

In January 2018, he had a collision with a truck with his Mini Cooper S. The car suffered some dents.

Instead, of trading it off for another, he took it for bodywork.

In an interview, the 26 year old Kante admitted that when he moved to England, he had to be persuaded to buy a car -as acquiring a car was not part of his agenda.

According to him, his plan when he arrived England was to run to training everyday.

Travel5 Current Innovations In The Automotive Sector by AutoJoshNG(op): 5:22pm On Jul 16, 2018
They say the only constant thing in life is change. Indeed, every facet of our lives, changes occur. The automotive sector is no different.

All over the world, the automotive sector is witnessing a revolution of some sort in different areas.

The past few years, the world has experienced some innovations in the automotive sector. These innovations have introduced new ways we drive our cars, how cars operate and how we commute.

Autojosh.com highlights 5 specific areas where we have seen new approaches to how cars were produced or how they are used.

https://i64.tinypic.com/2cfps39.jpg
Car-sharing

Car-sharing is a type of car rental where people rent cars for short periods – often by hours.

This practice is attractive to people who only need to drive a car occasionally. This model is also attractive to people who love to have access to different types or models of cars.

Car-sharing is practiced in countries like Australia, US, Canada. In the UK, it is referred to as “Car clubs”.

The company renting out the cars may be a commercial business, or the users may be organized as a company, public agency, cooperative, or ad hoc grouping. Car-sharing is part of a larger trend of shared mobility.

Car-sharing services are available in over 1,000 cities in several countries.

As of December 2012, there were an estimated 1.7 million car-sharing members in 27 countries. This is according to the Transportation Sustainability Research Center at U.C. Berkeley.

https://i65.tinypic.com/258cemd.jpg
Autonomous cars

An autonomous car is a car that is capable of driving itself. They are also called “driverless cars” , “robotic cars” or “self-driving cars”.

Autonomous cars are capable of sensing its environment and navigating around without human control and input.

The cars use a technology that combines a variety of techniques to perceive their surroundings, including radar, laser light, GPS, odometry and computer vision.

The potential benefits of autonomous cars include reduced human presence and movement on the road, increased safety, increased customer satisfaction and reduced crime – and there will be reduced cases of cars colliding with other cars.

https://i68.tinypic.com/ic0ok5.jpg
Ride-sharing

This is a service where someone can request for a ride at very short notice. The car that responds to the request are drawn from a pool of vehicles in the ride share company.

This type of carpooling generally makes use of three recent technological advances:

GPS navigation devices to determine a driver’s route and arrange the shared ride
Smartphones for a traveler to request a ride from wherever they happen to be
Social networks to establish trust and accountability between drivers and passengers
Ride-sharing is also known as “real-time ridesharing”, “on-demand ridesharing”, “ad-hoc ridesharing , “instant ridesharing”, “dynamic ridesharing”, and “dynamic carpooling”.

Uber, Taxify, Oga Taxi, etc., are some examples of ride-sharing platforms.

https://i65.tinypic.com/67nqdx.jpg
Electric cars

An electric car – or “Electric Vehicle (EV)” – is a car that is powered by electricity. An electric car is propelled by one or more electric motors, using energy typically stored in rechargeable batteries.

Since 2008, a revolution in electric vehicle manufacturing occurred. This was principally due to advances in batteries, concerns about increasing oil prices, and the desire to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

So many nations and governments have established tax credits, subsidies, and other incentives to promote the introduction and now adoption in the mass market of new electric vehicles depending on battery size, their all-electric range and purchase price.

Charging an electric car can be done at a variety of charging stations. These charging stations can be installed in both houses and public areas.

As of June 2017, there are over 2 million electric cars in use around the world.

The Nissan Leaf is the best-selling highway-capable electric car ever, with over 300,000 units sold globally by January 2018. Ranking second is the Tesla Model S with almost 213,000 units sold worldwide through December 2017.

The two best-selling electric vehicles, the Nissan Leaf, and the Tesla Model S, have driving ranges reaching 243 km and,539 km respectively.

https://i64.tinypic.com/2up2uiv.jpg
Hybrid cars

A hybrid car is a car that can switch from two or more different types of power sources to power the car’s engines.

For instance, they can switch from using petrol to power the car’s engine to using electricity to power the same engine.

The basic principle with hybrid vehicles is that the different power sources work better at different speeds and then switching from one to the other at the proper time during the speed transform yields a win-win in terms of energy efficiency, as such that translates into greater fuel efficiency.

TravelUsing Keke NAPEP For Ambulance Or Police Vehicle: Is It Wrong? by AutoJoshNG(op): 2:17pm On Jul 13, 2018
Recently, some pictures of tricycles popularly referred to as “Keke NAPEP” went viral.

They went viral because they were being used as ambulances and Police patrol vehicles.

Popular opinion was that the tricycles were substandard for use as emergency vehicles, or as police patrol vehicles.

So, the question is: what makes Keke NAPEP inappropriate for use as an ambulance, or as a police patrol vehicle?

https://i68.tinypic.com/k1sxft.jpg

First, let us be reminded that an ambulance is a vehicle equipped for taking sick or injured people to and from hospital, especially in emergencies.

The interior of an ambulance should have room for one or more patients plus an emergency medical personnel. It should also contains a variety of supplies and equipment that are used to stabilize the patient’s condition while en route.

So if a Keke NAPEP can meet the requirements, so why the outrage?

Let us also know that what determines the most appropriate vehicle to use is the terrain to be traveled. For instance, helicopters, airplanes, boats, etc. are best suited for certain terrains.

So, in our own peculiar environment, especially terrains where the regular vans cannot access – it is wise to deploy smaller vehicles such as tricycles.

As for the police patrol tricycles, if the police can use motorcycles as patrol vehicles, what makes tricycles inappropriate for similar purpose?

Or what do you think?

Car TalkTata Nano: The World's Cheapest Car Has Been Killed by AutoJoshNG(op):
https://i65.tinypic.com/104en0i.jpg

Indian automaker "Tata" has reportedly killed the Nano. If you don't know the Tata Nano, it's a micro car that has always been credited as the cheapest brand new car since it was launched. The Tata Nano was introduced in 2009 with a price tag of N297,750 ($1,985) using 2009's dollar exchange rate of about N150/dollar. As at today, the cost of a brand new is $2,500.

The company is saying goodbye to the Nano because only one unit of the car was produced in the month of June as against 275 units produced in the same month last year.

The demise of the Nano is a clear case of cost-cutting gone wrong. The major thing that attracts buyers to this car is its cheap price, however, the lack of basic features is a turn off. It is powered by a 0.6-liter 2 cylinder petrol engine that whispers 37 hp and 38 lb-ft of torque. No airbags. No safety features. No air conditioner and power steering in base models. Some don't even come with a radio because it's an option.
