The flag off ceremony took place yesterday.

In attendance at the ceremony was were some high profile dignitaries such as the Emir of Kano State, Muhammad Sanusi ll and the Emir of Zaria, Alhaji Shehu Idris.

Ojuelegba is is one of the busiest places in Lagos. It is located in Surulere local government area of Lagos State.

That location has always been notorious for its crowded setting. This disorganized setup was depicted in Fela’s 1975 Confusion album,

Ojuelegba is one of the key transport nodes of Lagos state. It interconnects the city’s mainlands with Lagos Island and Victoria Island. It also serves as a connecting point for people who commute the three surrounding districts of Yaba, Mushin and Surulere.

In the 80s and 90s, Ojuelebga was known for its boisterous night life, connecting revelers to Fela Kuti’s Moshalashi Shrine on Agege Motor Road and to the redlight district starting in Ayilara street through to parts of Clegg Street

Sadly, today, Ojuelegba has become such an eyesore – a place of filth.

This sad incident has now become a regular occurrence in Lagos. Few hours ago, a container truck fell from the top of Ojuelegba Bridge and landed on a bus and people. 

There are claims that two dead bodies have been retrieved from the accident scene and many more people are still trapped under the container.

According to a 2016 survey by the World Economic Forum (WEF), Lagos is the fastest growing city in the world.

The report also states that 85 migrants from other states enter into Lagos state every hour.

In other words, the population growth of Lagos metropolis is much faster than that of London and New York with a rate of 9 and 10 persons per hour respectively.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in Nigeria, over 80 million Nigerians move around using public transportation.

In Lagos alone, even without standard facilities, at least 12 million persons use public transportation every day. This translates to 15% of Nigerians, who have no other option than to commute using public transportation.

Sadly, Lagos has a terrific deficit in mass transit infrastructure.

And then comes Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

In early 2017, the Ambode-led administration inaugurated the Bus Reform Initiative (BRI).

The idea behind the BRI is to seek to find a lasting solution to the legendary transport challenge that Lagos state is notorious for. The project also seeks to formalize the state’s transport sector. All these were intended to usher in a new era in the state’s integrated transport management system.

As part of the BRI project, at least 13 new bus terminals and transport interchanges were planned for Lagos state. They include the Ikeja Bus Terminal along with other major terminals that are currently under construction in Agege, Ojota, Berger, Oshodi and Yaba.

In addition to these, 300 new bus stops and three bus depots are currently being constructed.

And things get even more interesting.

There is a plan by Gov. Ambode to inject at least 5000 new BRT buses on different routes in Lagos before the end of 2018. This is part of the grand plan to phase out the regime of the infamous danfos from the streets of Lagos.

No doubt, all of these put together are fantastic ideas.

However, a pertinent question that begs for answer is this: will the new bus terminals, bus stops and the planned introduction of the 5000 new BRT buses ease Lagos of its legendary transport challenge?

Sadly, the realities on ground does not seem to agree with that plan.

A visit to most BRT bus stops, especially during rush hours, will prove that a reasonable solution is not in sight. At such times, a huge number of commuters are seen at these bus stops spending an inordinate length of time waiting for the arrival of BRT buses.

Note that the delay in the arrival of BRT buses is not due to the lack of the BRT buses. Instead, the delay in their arrival is because the buses are stuck in traffic somewhere.

In all of these, also note that, new roads have not been built in Lagos state. Instead, so many of the old, inadequate and extremely busy roads have been segmented in order to accommodate the dedicated BRT lanes, thus, further reducing the road available to other motorists.

Indeed, the construction of new bus terminals, bus stops and the planned introduction of 5000 new BRT buses are all brilliant ideas.

However, except there is an equally aggressive plan to diversify into other means of transportation – e.g. waterways, metro lines, etc. – Lagos state might just be going round in circles.

In a very bizarre incident, a Toyota Camry crashed it’s rear through a house fence at Lawanson in Surulere.

The crash which damaged the fence also affected an electric power pole stationed to close by.

The Lagos Response Unit (LRU) later came in to salvage the situation.

Aubrey Drake Graham better known by the stage-name “Drake” is a Canadian rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, and entrepreneur.

Drake initially gained recognition as an actor on the teen drama television series Degrassi: The Next Generation in the early 2000s.

Intent on pursuing a career as a rapper, he departed the series in 2007 following the release of his debut mixtape, Room for Improvement.

The 32-year old rapper is known to have a very close relationship with Dennis Graham, his father, although he’s admitted it hasn’t always been this way.

On Father’s day, the multiple-award winner, Drake, surprised his dad with a gift of a brand new Bentley.

According to report, Drake’s dad was at home on Sunday before he got a call about a gift being outside of his place. Initially, he reportedly thought it was some delivery package until he oped the door and saw a brand new Bentley sitting outside. The guy who delivered the car says Graham FaceTimed Drake immediately after receiving the gift.

The car itself is estimated to be worth N54million ($150K).

Drake’s father, Graham, shared a photo of the car on Instagram with a heartfelt caption to his son.

“I am the happiest Dad in America for Father’s Day my wonderful Son graced me with a beautiful Bentley for my day Thank You so much my baby boy @champagnepapi it just doesn’t get any better than this, I love it son and I Love you,” .

He was born on June 14, 1938 at Ilara-Mokin, a town in Ondo state, Nigeria.

This business magnate is also the founder of Elizade University in Ilara-Mokin Ondo state.

Michael Ade-Ojo –right from a young age – demonstrates industry. As a young boy, he became a street vendor. He sold charcoal, food, & firewood to help make ends meet.

Despite being from a very humble background, by dint of determination, he still successfully made it through high school and university.

He attended St. Michael’s Anglican School, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State, Nigeria. He later attended Imade College, Owo, Nigeria (1954-1958), where he obtained the West Africa School Certificate. He proceeded to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) in 1961, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Business Administration in 1965.

Upon graduation, he was employed by CFAO motors; a French distribution company. This same company paid the tuition for his last two years in the university.

In 1966, while working as a sales representative for CFAO motors, he successfully sold 20 trucks to the Electricity Corporation of Nigeria.


After his stint at CFAO motors, he moved on, and got a job at British Petroleum (BP).

At British Petroleum (BP), and within three months of his employment, he increased the sales of his local division by 25%.

He later left BP, and then acquired the license to import Toyota Cars, with the name, Toyota Nigeria Limited, and single handedly, made the car brand, the most sought-after automobile brand in Nigeria.

He later went on to acquire 100% of RT Briscoe in Nigeria, and subsequently acquired more shares, to make his total holdings in Toyota Nigeria Limited, sum up to 74%.

Today, his conglomerate consists of Toyota Nigeria Limited, RT Briscoe Nigeria, Elizade Auto Land, Classic Motors Limited, Crow Motors Nigeria Limited, Elizade University, Okin Travels Limited, and a host of other investments.

Michael Ade-Ojo is also on the board of of several Nigeria banks and other companies such as Ecobank, First City Monument Bank, and SMT Nigeria Limited (the official distributors of Mack trucks, Volvo trucks, & Volvo Construction Equipments).

It has become a regular sight. It is the long stretch of parked trailers. They all line up along the stretch of a massive 12.4km of expressway, from Onipanu to the ports in Apapa.

Several bridges along the way are not spared of their presence and enormous weights. The bridges include: Ojuelegba, Abati, Stadium, Ijora, Iganmu, Eko, Carter and Jibowu bridges.

These parked articulated vehicles are also the cause of the chaotic traffic flow on and around these bridges.

They typically cause journeys that ought to be in minutes to last for hours.

Even the government appears incredibly clueless about a solution the situation.

Only God knows how long Lagosians would have to put up with this nuisance.

Soon, there will be no sight of inter-state buses and cars plying most roads in Lagos state. Thanks to the ongoing aggressive drive of the Governor Akinwunmi Ambode administration to restructure the transport sector in Lagos state.

In other to achieve this, the Lagos state government is currently constructing an ultra-modern bus terminal at the Ojodu-Berger axis of the state.

The Berger bus terminal – together with another terminal in Ojota – is being designed to aggregate the operations of all inter-state buses and vehicles.

When completed, there will be a restriction of inter-state vehicles from coming into Ikorodu Road or going beyond Ojodu Berger and Ojota.

Inter-state vehicles will have to go to Ojota and Ojodu Berger where the two designated inter-state bus terminal will be located.

The new Berger bus terminal is located at Berger, a Lagos-Ogun state border point.

The Ojodu-Berger bus terminal is fast approaching completion.

As a motorist in Lagos state, it is important to know your rights when dealing with LASTMA officials.

For instance: Can a LASTMA official arrest you?

Just like other law enforcement agencies, LASTMA officials have the power to arrest, fine, prosecute and ensure that traffic offenders are sent to jail.

Those who can be arrested by LASTMA officials include owners of vehicles such as motorcycles (Okada), tricycles (Keke NAPEP) and bicycles. In some cases, passengers in an offending vehicle can be arrested.

A LASTMA official can arrest motorists who are suspected to have violated any of the Lagos traffic law or committed a road traffic offence.

However, the law does not empower LASTMA officials to detain a suspect.

So, if you are arrested by LASTMA personnel for a road traffic infraction, you can opt for any of the options below:

Accept liability and pay the summary fine, or
Contest the charge and ask for a trial by a court of competent jurisdiction.

If a LASTMA personnel arrests you, and you contest the charge, this is what the official is expected to do:

He or she must present you before a competent court immediately (presumably a Traffic Court or Special Offences court), or
Take you to a police station to be detained prior to being charged to court
Note also that LASTMA official also have the power to demand for a psychiatric evaluation of any person who drives against the normal flow of traffic or who fails to comply with any of the provisions of this law.

By law, this test is necessary to determine the person’s ability to operate a motor vehicle.

Finally, any powers of arrest exercised by a LASTMA official are subject to the Right to Personal Liberty guaranteed by Section 35 of the 1999 Constitution specifically as it concerns- right to a legal practitioner, and right to be brought before a court within a reasonable time.

The right to personal liberty should not be taken for granted, so if you believe that your right has been trampled upon, and you would like to take action, please contact a lawyer.

Before anything else, only 36 of this 1963 Ferrari GTO were produced. This 1963 Ferrari GTO just sold for $70 million (N25,200,000,000), the highest price ever paid for a car. whooping N25.2 billion!!!

The car was sold by a German collector to Marcel Massini, the world’s top collectible Ferrari expert, who’s the founder of WeatherTech, maker of car floor mats.

Previously the highest price for a car was $52 million, paid for another 1963 Ferrari GTO in 2013. Again, a 1962-63 GTO sold at auction in California in 2014 for $38 million.

The car is priced that high because it is rare, its power, beauty and success on the race track.

The $70 million GTO that was purchased by MacNeil won the 1964 famed Tour de France race and came in fourth at Le Mans, Massini said. It’s painted in silver and yellow and despite a winning record on the track was never crashed, unlike many other GTOs.

These are indeed great pictures of the late Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe in the year 1959.

Also fondly referred to as “Zik” or "Zik of Africa", this Nigerian statesman was the first President of Nigeria from 1963 to 1966.

He is popularly considered as the driving force behind Nigeria's independence and came to be known as the "father of Nigerian Nationalism".

Azikiwe could speak Yoruba, Hausa and his native language, Igbo.

Motivated to get a university education, he traveled to U.S. and attended various colleges including Storer College, Columbia University, the University of Pennsylvania and Howard.

He returned to Africa in 1934 to start work as a journalist in the Gold Coast (now Ghana). In British West Africa, Azikiwe was an important advocate of Nigerian and African nationalism, first as a journalist and later as political leader.

In one of the pictures shown below, the great nationalist is seen standing near his car. And in another, he is sitting in the same car.

Mercedes-Benz sold more vehicles around the world last month than ever before in a May: A total of 198,187 cars with the three-pointed star were handed over to customers (+2.3%). The premium brand thus achieved best-ever unit sales for the 63rd month in succession. In the first five months of this year, 985,063 units were sold, which is 5.4% more than in the prior-year period. Mercedes-Benz was the premium brand with the most new registrations in May in countries including Germany, France, Belgium, Portugal, Greece, USA, Canada, Brazil, South Korea, Japan and Australia.

“The 63rd record month in succession demonstrates our customers’ trust in first-class products from Mercedes-Benz. This enables us to further expand our strong position in the premium segment. There are very few people that are very sensitive when it comes to the wellbeing of their vehicle. Some can detect the slightest fault or symptom, whereas some need the car to be broken down totally before they can realize something is wrong.

A lot of car users pay less attention to the exhaust system; maybe because they are underneath the car.
