https://i65.tinypic.com/delogh.jpg Popularly known as Ijapa (Tortoise) here in Nigeria, the Volkswagen Beetle was one of the most desired vehicle in its time. How much do you really know about this vehicle, that made villagers envy and worship anyone who could afford it those days ? Let’s find out some facts. 1. Adolf Hitler(yes, the same Hitler), played a role in the birth of the VW Beetle .He wanted a “people’s car” that German families could afford. 2. Hitler enlisted the services of Ferdinand Porsche (yup, the same Porsche you are thinking about ), to make this legendary machine. 3. The production of the VW Beetle spanned from 1938-2018 and a total of 21,529,464 were already built as at 2003 !! Making it the longest produced vehicle in history!. 4. Just like Nigeria calls it “Ijapa” (Tortoise) almost every country has a nick name for it. In France they call it “Coccinelle” which means ladybug. Italy calls it Beetle but in their own language it’s “Maggiolino”. Bolivia calls it the “Peta”, which means turtle, and Indonesia uses “Kodak” (frog). 5. The VW Beetle was designed in 1925 by a 18 year old Hungarian student, Bela Barenyi. She is recognized for designing the basic foundations of this car. 6. The VW Beetle was originally called “Volkswagen Type 1” 7. According to Wikipedia, Volkswagen Beetle had just two assembly plants in Africa, one in South Africa(Uitenhage) and the other in Nigeria(Lagos) 8. The blue whale’s heart is about the size of a VW beetle. 9. In 1949 VW Beetle convertible was produced, in 1950 Beetle became the best-selling car of the decade with a market share of 40%. 10. The millionth Beetle was built in 1955. Hope you added something to your library of facts. Thanks for reading .And don’t forget to share. The Lagos State Government says plans have been put in place to stop the issuance of road worthiness certificate without examination of the vehicle. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode made this known at the inauguration of eight computerized vehicle inspection centers spread across the state recently. The governor stated that with the centers in place, the issuance of road worthiness certificates would be hinged on the inspection of vehicles at any of the testing centres. He also said before the end of the year, 10 more centers would be opened. He said the state government would partner the Federal Roads Safety Corps in ensuring that only roadworthy vehicles were allowed to ply all roads in the state. The governor also urged the FRSC to continue to collaborate with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the Vehicle Inspection Service in ensuring that vehicles posing threats to safety on the roads were impounded and taken off the road. “The plan is to replicate the centres in all the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas of the state. We have taken this route to ensure we do not repeat what happened between 2013 and 2016, when over 416 lives were lost and 2,498 were injured due to road crashes on our roads as a result of human errors which research has proved to be responsible for 90 per cent of accidents, while mechanical and environmental factors account for only 10 per cent. Since the inauguration of the two centres at Ojodu and Ikorodu, 93,768 vehicles have been taken there between April 2017 and December 2017. Of these, 53,970 vehicles passed, 39,798 failed and 29, 977 of those that failed had a retest and passed. It is noteworthy that over 60 per cent of the vehicles that failed did so as a result of faulty brakes while others failed due to issues relating to lighting, suspensions, tyres and so on” he said. https://autojosh.com/lagos-state-to-stop-road-worthiness-certificate-issuance-without-vehicle-inspection/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove Marpol Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy Seun

https://i63.tinypic.com/2428v91.jpg Herbert Macaulay Road is a prime road in Yaba, Lagos. It has a length of about 5.13 kilometers. The road is gradually earning the status of Nigeria’s version of Silicon Valley. This is so because it is home to a growing number of tech companies. Note that Herbert Macaulay Road, Yaba, was Facebook’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, first port of call during his visit to Nigeria in August 2016. Now that entire aside, Herbert Macaulay Road also has some very interesting landmarks. For instance, the stretch of Herbert Macaulay road, starting from Adekunle Bus-stop to Jibowu, lies 8 very conspicuous pedestrian bridges. Arguably, this is the highest number of pedestrian bridges on a single road in Nigeria. Interestingly, the 8 pedestrian bridges are relevant on that road only as landmarks. No one seem to be interested in putting them to the use that they were designed for. Well, aside from the fact that Lagosians are legends for being in meaningless haste, the relatively narrow Herbert Macaulay roads, together with the light traffic on the road doesn’t exactly help matters. Perhaps, the authorities should consider an alternative such as speed bumps, zebra crossing and mini-staircases over the elevated medians on the road. Hopefully, if these are done, “Yabarians” would put them to use. https://i68.tinypic.com/fp7z41.jpg Adekunle Pedestrian Bridge https://i67.tinypic.com/1zbf2vr.jpg Adekunle Pedestrian Bridge https://i64.tinypic.com/rlanbp.jpg Casino Pedestrian Bridge, Herbert Macaulay Road, Yaba https://i68.tinypic.com/fji4ap.jpg Casino Pedestrian Bridge, Herbert Macaulay Road, Yaba https://i66.tinypic.com/aokqqa.jpg Domino-Spencer Pedestrian Bridge, Herbert Macaulay Road, Yaba https://i66.tinypic.com/33dh95d.jpg Domino-Spencer Pedestrian Bridge, Herbert Macaulay Road, Yaba https://i67.tinypic.com/2mdf9li.jpg Domino-Spencer Pedestrian Bridge, Herbert Macaulay Road, Yaba https://i64.tinypic.com/30i8ikm.jpg Library Pedestrian Bridge, Herbert Macaulay Road, Yaba https://i68.tinypic.com/1z516co.jpg Saabo Pedestrian Bridge, Herbert Macaulay Road, Yaba https://i65.tinypic.com/21oa2h4.jpg Saabo Pedestrian Bridge, Herbert Macaulay Road, Yaba https://i68.tinypic.com/34pao87.jpg Saabo Pedestrian Bridge, Herbert Macaulay Road, Yaba https://i65.tinypic.com/an24jo.jpg Barrack Pedestrian Bridge, Herbert Macaulay Road, Yaba https://i68.tinypic.com/xn679j.jpg Barrack Pedestrian Bridge, Herbert Macaulay Road, Yaba https://i65.tinypic.com/104ngc1.jpg WAEC Pedestrian Bridge, Herbert Macaulay Road, Yaba https://i67.tinypic.com/2meo4dl.jpg Yabatech Pedestrian Bridge, Herbert Macaulay Road, Yaba https://i64.tinypic.com/2nqb28x.jpg Yabatech Pedestrian Bridge, Herbert Macaulay Road, Yaba https://autojosh.com/see-the-road-with-the-highest-number-of-pedestrian-bridges-in-nigeria-that-nobody-uses-photos/ |

I see super cars a lot in Lekki and VI, sometimes Ikeja, and I wonder why people who can afford up to five super cars in their garages with hefty price tags and mind-blowing import duties, have no single electric car in their fleet. Then I asked myself the question, “why” . Some Electric Vehicles (EVs) are cheaper than some of this super cars, cheaper not just in terms of initial cost of purchase, but also cost of maintenance . Let’s take a look at some reasons and excuses Nigerians have given for not buying EVs . Ignorance Whether we choose to believe it or not, in this digital age, some people still don’t know there are cars that can run without fuel. Remember the driverless car video that went viral in Naija here some weeks ago ?, some people taught their village people were driving the car. Emancipate yourselves from ignorance, electric cars do exist. Funny enough, cars that “technically” run on water also exist, just that they are still undergoing a lot of tests and research. But electric cars really do exist and it’s no longer a scarce commodity. No Power The enlightened Nigerians, have a default answer they give anytime you mention electric cars “where the light wey I wan take charge am ? ” . The truth is, technology has improved so much that most of these cars charge considerably fast and some of them can last for a range as much as 300km, some of them are hitting the 400km mark already. Just for scale, the approximate distance between Lagos and Benin is 300km.I doubt if an average Nigerian drives such distance every single day, that means a single charge would last you about 2-3 days if not more ! . An average electric car charges from 0-100% in approximately 5 hours. With the epileptic supply in most places in Naija, some areas get uninterrupted supply, and if yours is so poor you would get at least 2 -5 hours per day !. No Parts Seriously ? , have you seen a Lambo’s or Ferrari’s or Porcshe’s or even Rolls Royce parts in Ladipo market ? (I may be wrong, but I doubt it),but we see people drive these cars, so why giving the same excuses for electric cars that need almost no maintenance . Don’t get me wrong, all machines need to be maintained, but because electric cars don’t have combustion engines, and have considerably less moving parts compared to regular fuel cars, they hardly break down and have faults. Abeg, stop giving this excuse. No Trained Mechanics Just like the point made above you would most likely not need frequent fixes, so visiting the mechanic all the time is ruled out. Cost Nigerians have a default “incantation” these days, “no money, no money” “we are in Buhari season”.But if you stand at a bus stop in a developed area for 30 minutes you would see at least 5 cars that cost 10 Million Naira or more, that’s excluding the cost of fuel everyday and periodic maintenance .The Ford Focus electric 2018 costs approximately 10.5 Million Naira without fuelling everyday. Dear reader, why haven’t you bought an electric car if you can afford it ? I personally think electric cars are the way forward in this country, it would cripple the cost of fuel (law of demand and supply), it would have a massive ripple effect on the economy. What are your thoughts ? We would like to hear from you . By Donald3d https://autojosh.com/why-are-nigerians-not-buying-electric-cars/

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Wednesday commissioned eight new computerized vehicle inspection centers in addition to the 10 available centers across the state. The opening of the centers was aimed at ensuring that vehicles plying Lagos roads meet international standard as well as ensure drastic reduction in road carnage, he said. The exercise, which would be rounded up today would put an end to human-error prone testing in checking the health status of vehicles on the roads. The eight new centers are spread across locations in Oko-Oba, Ayobo – Iyana-Ipaja, Oko-Afo, Badagry, PWD, Gbagada, Agric-Isawo and Epe. This newly commissioned centers joined the Ojodu and Odogunyan-Ikorodu centers earlier commissioned in April 2017. With the centers in place, the government plans to completely eradicate physical inspection of vehicles while the issuance of road worthiness certificate would be hinged on the inspection of vehicles at any of the testing center. Gov. Ambode who was represented by the commissioner for transportation, Mr Ladi Lawanson said 10 more centers would be commissioned before the end of the year. This is part of the state government’s plan to replicate the centers in all 20 local government and 37 council development areas in the state. “We’ve taken this route to ensure that unlike what happened between 2013 and 2016, when over 416 lives were lost to road crashes and 2,498 injured. Research has however proved that the road crashes on our roads are as a result of human errors which has proved to be responsible for 90% of accidents while mechanical and environmental factors account for only 10%. Today we are proud to say that since the inauguration of the two centers at Ojodu and Ikorodu, 93,768 vehicles have been taken there between April 2017 and December 2017. To this effect, 53,970 vehicles passed, 39,798 failed and 29,977 of those that failed had a retest and passed. It is noteworthy that over 60% of the vehicles that failed was as a result of faulty brakes while others failed due to issues relating to lighting, suspensions, tyres and so on.” The Managing Director of the Lagos State Computerized Vehicle Inspection Service (LACVIS), Prince Segun Obayendo said each of the centers has capacity to inspect 80 vehicles per day. He commended the governor for putting in place the safety infrastructure which he described as a project to save lives. “This is about doing the right thing to get the right result by checking the health status of our vehicles. Unfortunately, we have not been doing this in the country, we have compromised on this,” he said. https://autojosh.com/lagos-commissions-eight-new-computerised-vehicle-inspection-centres/

These are very shocking statistics. The National Bureau of Statistics recently release data which showed that 1,292 Nigerians have been killed in road accidents in the last three months across the nation. According to the report, 1,292 Nigerians got killed in the road traffic crashes recorded in the first quarter of 2018, saying that 1,186 of the 1,292 Nigerians who got killed, representing 92% of the figure, were adults while the remaining 106 Nigerians, representing 8% of the figure, were children. The report added that 1,008 male Nigerians, representing 78%, got killed in road crashes in the first quarter while 284 female Nigerians, representing 22% got killed. “The first quarter of 2018 road transport data reflected that 2,482 road crashes occurred. Speed violation is reported as the major cause of road crashes in the first quarter and it accounted for 50.81% of the total road crashes reported. https://i65.tinypic.com/14xctae.jpg Indeed, when it rains very hard, flooding is bound to occur on roads and streets. However, the intensity of the flooding can be determined by the quality of drainage system put in place to channel the floodwater away from the roads and street. Lagos state is one place that is not exactly famous for clean and dirt-free drainage systems. In Lagos, drainage systems are typically considered by many of its residents as an alternative to refuse dumps. This disgraceful culture is particularly not helped by the fact that the state government sees absolutely nothing crude about building uncovered drainages in a major city like Lagos in the 21st Century. So, when next there is a less than torrential rainfall in Lagos, and it floods, no one ought to be surprised – the reasons are out there for us to see. https://i65.tinypic.com/23t4gax.jpg https://i64.tinypic.com/2mhj0n7.jpg https://i67.tinypic.com/bhkqyo.jpg https://i63.tinypic.com/24pay4h.jpg https://i66.tinypic.com/rjmc5u.jpg https://i66.tinypic.com/33cu3qv.jpg https://i67.tinypic.com/2gw4ym8.jpg https://i64.tinypic.com/1t8rvo.jpg https://i66.tinypic.com/2mxj1q0.jpg https://i68.tinypic.com/ip72i9.jpg https://i64.tinypic.com/3356o05.jpg https://i66.tinypic.com/11hebld.jpg Source: https://autojosh.com/see-why-lagos-roads-will-always-be-flooded-when-it-rains-photo/ |

These are Yutong lines of Luxury buses. In terms of size, lenght and seating capacities, Yutong buses come in different categories. These Nigeria-made luxury buses are far more affordable than other brand of imported luxury buses. Yutong bus project is a Chinese automotive franchise.
