Before we go into redlining of car engines, we need to know what a tachometer is. The image above is called Tachometer.

The tachometer shows the rotation speed of the engine crankshaft. It is measured in Revolution per Minute (RPM).

If the gauge reaches the Red Zone, it means that the engine is spinning at an abnormally high velocity which can cause complications to your vehicle.

Redlining the engine is not a safe practice for your car. it’s advised you don’t REDLINE your car.

Redlining your car can cause:

- Overheating of the engine
- Inadequate lubrication in the engine compartment
- Excessive wear on the engine
- Excess fuel consumption – the higher the RPM, the higher the fuel consumption.

All these mentioned above shortens the lifespan of a vehicle; it can easily cause an engine to fail. Don’t drive with the gauge pointing to the red zone if you don't want your car engine totaled.

It depends on the car. Have they changed or worked on the AC compressor before?

In most cases, this issue occurs when a compressor that uses sensor is changed to manual. Installing a bigger compressor and bad steamer vacuum can also cause it.

Engine vibration is quite uncomfortable and can be scary at some point. There are quite a number of things that cause the engine to vibrate. It can be mild or rigorous vibration.

There are a lot of things which can cause the engine to vibrate. it can be a simple thing like old spark plugs producing unstable power delivery.


Some of the causes of this vibration do not originate from the engine but from the axle.

Relax and read carefully to know why your car engine is vibrating.

1. Faulty/bad engine mount:
The function of this engine mount is to keep the engine attached to the chassis of your car. It dampens the vibration coming from a running engine. It is a part of the car that is hard to get damaged; reckless driving and our bad roads in Nigeria are the major causes of this.

2. Bad Crankshaft Damper:
The function of the crankshaft damper is to reduce/decrease vibration. If by chance that it is defected or has stopped working, the engine will keep shaking even harder.

3. Bad spark plugs:
This is one of the most common causes of engine vibration. Worn out or bad spark plug will cause the engine to misfire.
The work of the spark plug is to ignite the fuel and air mixture in the combustion chamber

4. Axle problem:
In reality, engine vibration isn’t only rooted in the engine itself. Sometimes, it’s the axle that needs to be taken care of. Damaged axle can lead to the vibration of the engine. Even when there is no apparent sign of damage, axle can be the cause of the vibration. So you may need to check the axle especially if you are driving a car that has been involved in an accident in the past.

5. Faulty or Poorly Adjusted Fuel Intake System:
When the fuel intake system is faulty, the required amount of fuel needed by the car does not go to the engine, hence, the engine is starved. This can cause the engine to vibrate.

It was a frightening scene today at the Berger bus stop park. A task force made up of hundreds of police officers, raided the Berger Okada park.

Amidst sporadic gun shots, they confiscated hundreds of commercial motorcycles popularly called "Okada".

According to some of the victims of the raid, , they are unaware of any notice for them to relocate from that park. So, the police task force coming to confiscate their source of personal income is coming to them as a huge surprise.

All the shops in and around the Berger bus stop commercial axis were unopened due to fear of the harassment by the police officers and concerns about possible stray bullets.

Throwback Thursday: 

The Cathedral Church of Christ, 29 Marina, CMS, Lagos is one of the oldest church cathedrals in Nigeria.

This Anglican Cathedral was conceived on 29 March 1867 and the cathedral was established in 1869.

The foundation of this current building was commissioned by the King Edward VIII in 1925 when he was still the Prince of Wales. It was completed in 1946.

Ever since, this cathedral has remained a very essential landmark in Lagos, Nigeria.

The relics of Bishop Samuel Ajayi Crowther lays at a cenotaph in the church.

Not German, it's Korean but one that means business.

Kia Motors has revealed the all-new K9 in a series of exterior and interior images. The Kia K9 has been created in Kia’s global design headquarters in Namyang, Korea and the brand’s U.S. design studio in Irvine, California. The new model will make its world debut at the New York International Auto Show later on March 28.

The car comes with rich, sophisticated design and balanced proportions that ensures a strong on-road presence for the K9. Analog clock developed exclusively by Swiss watch brand Maurice Lacroix. Minimalist interior with advanced in-car technologies, new Human Machine Interface (HMI) and co-developed Pantone customizable mood ambient lighting.
 
The K9’s 12.3-inch HMI screen is integrated in such a way as to enhance a sense of calm and serenity. The HMI features a new intelligent lighting control with proximity sensors, only illuminating the dashboard when it detects the driver’s hand reaching for a switch. Drivers can also adapt the cabin of the new K9 to personal preferences with a new mood lighting system.

The all-new Kia K9 will be manufactured in Korea and will go on sale across selected global markets from the second quarter of 2018.

Engine oil performs vital functions which aids in maintaining optimum engine performance, maximizing engine life as well as cooling the engine.

When this engine oil isn’t pure as it should be, it can bring up a problem to the car. This problem can be called Engine Sludge.


Engine sludge is in its simplest term Accumulated mass of impure carbon particles due to incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons. It is a dirty, sticky, grease-like substance formed due to oxidation/contamination of engine oil.


There are several things that can cause a car engine to be filled with sludge. Some of them are:

1. Delayed service/maintenance:
When the engine oil is used longer than prescribed by the manufacturer, it is prone to form sludge.
When service is delayed, there is a high chance that sludge will be formed. This will make the oil not to flow freely in the engine compartment.

2. Making use of inferior oil:
You’re likely to fall into this trap if you don’t make use of your car manual. It is wise to use the engine oil recommended by your car manufacturer.
German car owners should take note. They are mostly affected.

3. Bad fuel:
Bad fuel leads to carbon build up which is engine sludge formation. This gradually suffocates the engine and cause problem to the fuel system.

4. Excessive car idling:
The term idling simply refers to as the engine running but the car is stationary and not moving. A lot of people do this to warm up their car first thing in the morning. Excessive idling can reduce the accuracy of when your car is due for servicing. And when not serviced when due, sludge can start building up.


How can one know their car is affected with this sludge?

Check for oil spatters where it should not be:
Any signs of oil or engine sludge on the outside of the vehicle or engine is a sure sign that you have an engine sludge problem inside.

Check the oil pan:
Remove the oil cap from your oil pan. Check the cap and peer inside. You may need a flashlight to be able to see clearly. The contents of your oil pan should appear clean. Although the walls and parts will be covered in oil, they should still appear metallic silver underneath. Any sign of engine sludge in the oil pan is an indicator of high levels of engine sludge in your motor.

It is important you follow the service interval as recommended by the manufacturer of your car brand. To ignore or extend the engine oil service interval exposes your engine to this risk.


Sludge can cause much damage to your engine and may require the engine to be replaced.

One of the major causes of road accident is human error. Maybe the driver failed to apply the brakes when it was supposed to be applied or did the wrong calculation before overtaking a car in front.

4. Comparison of Job Performance Level: Having different auto mechanics affords the chance to compare different performance levels and make a decision on the first person to go to the next time.

The best option is usually the dealership workshops but most of them are beyond the financial reach of average Nigerians. Even if you have the funds to patronize them, their services can be abysmal at times.
