Just last week, The Wall Street Journal reported that Uber did not make profit in the first quarter of 2017. Confirming this, Uber has announced that they actually made a loss of a whooping $708million in the first 3 months of the year despite posting revenue of $3.4 billion.

The company’s spokesperson said, “these results demonstrate that our business remains healthy and resilient as we focus on improving our culture, management and relationship with drivers and Uber is on a good trajectory towards profitability”. Uber also said it’s looking for a chief financial officer who has worked at a public company or has experience in taking a company public.

The Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has granted permission to the Lagos State Government to embark upon a total reconstruction of the International Airport Road from Oshodi.

In a Press Statement signed on Wednesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Tunji Bello, the State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode who made the disclosure, commended the Acting President for his statesman like approach to issues and for fast tracking the process.

“We are very appreciative of the good gesture of His Excellency, the Acting President for acceding to our request which is not only very timely but a very heartwarming one. Posterity will never forget this genuine developmental action”, Governor Ambode said.

He also described the approval as a 50th birthday to the people of Lagos State, describing it a further demonstration of the determination of the present administration to ensure the effectiveness of the Executive Order on improving the Ease of Doing Business recently signed by the Acting President.

Governor Ambode also gave kudos to President Muhammadu Buhari for providing the enabling environment to attract Foreign Direct Investment into the nation, adding that with the upgrading of the International Airport Road which is the gateway to the nation’s commercial nerve centre, the country will attract new investments.

The Governor had in early March this year, raised an alarm about the present state of the Muritala Muhammed International Airport Road, describing it as a national disgrace that required immediate attention to salvage the nation’s image.

He stated then that the State presently has a design for the reconstruction of the road as well as the funds to embark on the project but was yet to get the go ahead from the Federal Government.

In his words: “The road linking Oshodi to the International Airport, you would all agree with me is a national embarrassment. In the spirit of the regeneration and urbanisation that this administration has set out to achieve, we believe strongly that the image that is exhumed by the decadence of that road must be repaired and we took it upon ourselves to appropriate the 2017 budget that the House of Assembly should approve the total reconstruction of the Airport Road from Oshodi to the International Airport.

“The State currently has a design of 10 lanes to come from Oshodi to the International Airport with interchange and flyover that would drop you towards the Local Airport. The contractor is already set to go and everything as I said has been completed and we already have the cash, but alas we are having challenges with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing. This is a Federal and not a State road. The Federal Ministry of Works believes that they should do the road, but they have not been able to do it all these years past.”

Governor Ambode had said if given the approval, his administration was ready to hit the ground running and begin construction of the Airport Road within two weeks and finish same within a period of six months.

Besides, the Governor also implored the Federal Government to avail the State of the N2billion appropriated for the Airport Road in the 2017 National Budget to carry out the project.

“I just want to appeal to the Federal Ministry of Works, to let go or reimburse us with whatever it is that they are owing us and even if they are not willing to pay us now, we have the money to do it. It is a national disgrace and we would not be part of it. We would like to do it as part of the celebration of Lagos at 50,” Governor Ambode had said then.

It would be recalled that the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing in its reaction said the delay in granting the request the of Lagos State was because the Memorandum conveying the request of Lagos State which was already before the Federal Executive Council has not reached completion stage.

“The Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing Ministry has presented the Memorandum conveying the request of the Lagos State Government to the Federal Executive Council as was done with a similar request by the Kaduna State Government in 2016”.

“Due to the fact that TWO of the roads also connect Ogun State, the Federal Executive Council could not reach an immediate decision on them because it requested the input of the other State Government affected”, the federal ministry explained.

Director General of National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Mr. Jelani Aliyu, MFR, has challenged auto technicians and mechanics in Nigeria to show keen interests in emerging technologies in the automotive industry so that they would be in tune with the newer systems.

On his part, he gave a commitment that NADDC would continue to support and collaborate with the national associations of the auto technicians with a view to ensuring that cars on Nigerian roads were safe and working at efficient levels.
Mr. Jelani Aliyu Aliyu was speaking in Abuja today Wednesday May 31, 2017 while receiving a delegation of Motor Mechanics and Technicians Association of Nigeria (MOMTAN) led by its National President, Engr. Chief S.A. Oseni.
The NADDC boss was particularly delighted that MOMTAN had a very good history of working relationship with the Council over the years, stressing that auto technicians had very important roles to play in the development of the auto industry sector.

In his remarks, MOMTAN President congratulated Mr. Jelani Aliyu on his well deserved appointment and pledged the total support of the association to the various programmes and activities of NADDC.
Engr. Oseni was full of appreciation for the tremendous support MOMTAN had received from the Federal Government through NADDC especially in the areas of training and retraining of its members in auto mechatronics engineering, donation of auto diagnostic scanners and tools as well as membership of Sector Skills Council for the auto industry.

He stated that MOMTAN was the umbrella body of motor mechanics and auto technicians in Nigeria.

Interior Features

The Fiat Tipo 4-door basic model exudes style with its painstakingly simple designs inside and out. The interior comes with fabric upholstery, chrome and gloss black detailing. The instrumental panel possesses a clear and uncluttered design offering all the information needed on a thin film transistor screen. These features are also found in the five-door model and station wagon. On the inside, this five-seater sedan offers 520 liters space in the luggage compartment and 1150 liters when the rear seats are folded back. Safety

Equipped with some of the most advanced safety systems, the Fiat Tipo offers simplicity and peace of mind to its passengers. Some key safety features include six airbags and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) with Hill Holder, anti-lock brakes (ABS) complete with electronic brake force distribution (EBD), fog light with cornering function and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). The Lexus LFA may be remembered as one of the last great naturally aspirated supercars. Unfortunately Toyota doesn't make them anymore, but they still pop up now and again on the used car market.

Most of them we've seen came in colors like orange, yellow, or white. But those are just a few of the 28 colors that were available as standard on the LFA.

Of the 500 that were made, only one is said to have left the factory at Motomachi in brown pearl – an especially odd choice considering the orange interior... and that it wasn't made in the 1970s. Colors aside, it packs the same free-revving 4.8-liter V10 as any other LFA, kicking out 552 horsepower to the rear wheels through a six-speed, single-clutch sequential transmission.

With 1,074 miles on the clock, this 2012 model is currently listed for sale in Sharjah, the third largest city in the United Arab Emirates. Hyper Voitures FZC is asking $645,000 – which, in case you're wondering, is nearly twice the $375,000 sticker price it wore when new.

That's a handsome premium considering some of the others we've seen, but it's less than a tenth of what still others have had the chutzpah to charge. Maybe in time the rarity will prove worth the premium, but we wouldn't be surprised 50 years down the line to find it had been repainted another color, only to be returned to its original hue later in life.

This new BMW 8 Series is arguably the most luxurious BMW. It is also expected to be the most expensive. This concept will go on sale next year.

It was unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este in Italy and it looks amazing.

The government of Israel has announced that they would be tapping into the opportunities of wireless charging roads. They intend to work with a local start-up company which would be creating bus routes in Tel Aviv using wireless charging road.

A successful test has been carried out by Qualcomm on a 100 meter long stretch and ElectRoad also showcased a test at Caesarea. Furthermore, a grant of $120,000 has been given to ElectRoad by Israel’s Ministry of Transport and Road Safety.

If the wireless charging road proves successful, Israel’s government plans to deploy the technology more widely with an 11-mile route between the Ramon Interational Airport and the city of Eilat being the first major stretch.

According to the chief scientist at Israel’s Ministry of Transport and Road Safety said “Tel Aviv is the biggest city [in Israel], like New York on a small scale. If it will work in Tel Aviv, it will work anywhere. I think in 10 years you’ll see a lot of solutions like ElectRoad in our transportation.”

After taking over Volvo, Geely is still expanding its portfolio. They recently announced they are buying majority shares in Lotus which is a British sports car manufacturer. Geely will also acquire nearly half of Malaysian automaker Proton.

At the same time, Geely is in the process of launching the new Lynk & Co brand which would be the most connected car with free Wi-Fi and integrated car sharing services.

This arrangement will put Lotus under new ownership for the 5th time in about 3 decades.
