To me, this doesn’t look so good or appealing to the eyes. The Arab guys are not even smiling. They can do and undo. I believe the person that did this did it for fun. Next time, he should at least make it a double cab. https://autojosh.com/have-you-seen-pickup-range-rover/

Sometime in 2016, the new Obalende Bus terminal was commissioned. It was seen opening a new vista in the transport sub-sector. It’s commissioning was greeted with so much fanfare. However, a few years down the line, its impressive and clean outlook is fast diminishing. The Obalende Bus Terminal now wears an untidy look. It brings us back to the issue of our poor maintenance culture. With new and resplendent bus terminals springing up in Lagos state, would our maintenance culture be able to keep them in the current impressive state? https://i68.tinypic.com/347jjmp.jpg https://i65.tinypic.com/3149gyf.jpg https://i66.tinypic.com/2heers5.jpg https://i65.tinypic.com/160e9l3.jpg https://i68.tinypic.com/20kugk2.jpg https://i67.tinypic.com/27xi5iw.jpg https://i63.tinypic.com/eb6lux.jpg https://i63.tinypic.com/dlhpja.jpg Source: https://autojosh.com/see-the-current-state-of-the-obalende-bus-terminal/ |
To some of them, it was magic. To some other, it was spiritual. Some even felt it was being remotely controlled. Someone was heard in the video, saying "Na spirit dey inside". These were the various impressions some Nigerians entertained when they saw a self-driving car for the first time. Some of them couldn't help peeping through the car window to check if someone was indeed driving the car. Indeed, driverless cars are now a reality in Nigeria. Anyway, kindly watch the video below and see the amazement as expressed by these Nigerians. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0JH3fN_eXE Source: https://autojosh.com/see-the-moment-some-nigerians-saw-a-self-driving-car-for-the-first-time-video/

Wedding days are typically designed to be very memorable. The couple involved put in so much efforts to make the event one to linger for long in the memories of all. To achieve this, different tactics and antics are orchestrated to make the wedding eventful, especially with interesting high points, all designed to make the event the most talked about event for as long as possible. However, there are some rather daring couples who succeeded in making their wedding a very memorable event. They succeeded not necessarily due to the grandiose nature of the event. Neither did they achieve it due to the presence of some celebrity performer that performed at the event. Or the grand wedding venue. Rather they used usual wedding vehicles to make give their events a unique touch and to be the talk of the town, or well, in this era of the Internet and the World Wide Web, the talk of the world. Anyway, Autojosh presents some very usual and I dare say very daring couples with the most usual wedding vehicles. https://i67.tinypic.com/oidm45.jpg https://i67.tinypic.com/viiayu.jpg https://i64.tinypic.com/339hmaa.jpg https://i67.tinypic.com/aliudd.jpg https://i68.tinypic.com/rhsdxi.jpg https://i64.tinypic.com/6r4x9h.jpg https://i66.tinypic.com/rsaiau.jpg https://i67.tinypic.com/149tszm.jpg https://i67.tinypic.com/ibm3w8.jpg https://i63.tinypic.com/28wkqyp.jpg https://i63.tinypic.com/20jigev.jpg https://i68.tinypic.com/k2k41y.jpg https://i63.tinypic.com/2i796dj.jpg https://i67.tinypic.com/rhtp1z.jpg https://i64.tinypic.com/202vxs.jpg https://i67.tinypic.com/2ajrynl.jpg https://i67.tinypic.com/2yuztk0.jpg https://i63.tinypic.com/rsej5j.jpg https://i68.tinypic.com/f0ya0n.jpg https://i65.tinypic.com/257hl4z.jpg https://i63.tinypic.com/2dbv1jt.jpg https://i65.tinypic.com/2jb8bic.jpg https://i67.tinypic.com/15511qr.jpg https://i63.tinypic.com/jq0rip.jpg https://i64.tinypic.com/vr3i0w.jpg https://i65.tinypic.com/1zh1vgh.jpg Source: https://autojosh.com/are-you-bold-enough-to-do-your-wedding-in-any-of-these-cars/ |
https://i65.tinypic.com/nl8t3s.jpg The Niger Bridge more popularly referred to as the Onitsha Bridge is of Nigeria’s most economically crucial bridges. It was constructed between 1964 and 1965, and it was commissioned in December 1965. The Bridge links the South-Western and the South-Southern region of the country to the South-East. The Bridge has its two ends both in Asaba, Delta State and Onitsha, Anambra state. Apart from being host to one of the largest marketplaces in all of West Africa, Onitsha also happens to be the gateway to the densely populated eastern region. So, prior to the construction of the famous Onitsha Bridge in 1966, how were people traveling to the East? Well, in the early 1960s, travels across the river Niger to the eastern part of Nigeria was achieved with the means of river ferries of various sizes. Below are photographs of showing travelers at the jetties and landing points at Asaba end of the river in 1961. https://i63.tinypic.com/iljfqd.jpg Asaba Ferry Landing (March 1961) https://i65.tinypic.com/1692gkp.jpg A private enterprise river ferry stopped at the main Asaba passenger-landing dock in 1966. New record-breaking figure for the Four Rings: Audi concluded its best first quarter in the company’s history. Between January and March the company sold around 463,800 automobiles worldwide, 9.8 percent more than in the same quarter last year. In particular, the high demand in China (+41.9%) and North America (+10.2%) drove growth in the first three months. In Europe, however, sales since January came in below the record-breaking level from 2017, down 4.7 percent. In March, the company delivered around 183,750 premium automobiles (+6.0%) worldwide. “The record-breaking start to the year provides us with important momentum. With the Audi A7, A6, A1 and Q3 models, we will be renewing around a quarter of our sales in Europe alone throughout the year,” says Bram Schot, Board Member for Sales and Marketing at AUDI AG. In China, Audi also closed the first quarter successfully. Here the company delivered 154,270 cars since January, an increase of 41.9 percent. In the past month, demand increased by 30.6 percent; the Ingolstadt-based automaker sold more automobiles in China than ever before in the month of March, delivering 54,031 units. The Audi A4 proved an important growth engine. The number of deliveries of the midsize model increased by 86.4 percent year-on-year to more than 13,800 cars. Since the start of the year more than 37,350 Chinese customers received their keys for an Audi A4 (+99.2%). With sales down 5.8 percent in March, Europe is indicative of the complex ramp-up and discontinuation situation of the current model initiative. In Germany and the UK, Audi’s two largest European markets, deliveries were down on the very strong sales figures from 2017. In the domestic market, the premium brand delivered 28,247 automobiles (-9.0%) in March, which had less selling day than last year. In the UK, sales fell 2.9 percent year-on-year in the past month. In the first quarter, UK sales were on a par with the prior-year level, up 0.1 percent, and performed far more resiliently than the declining overall market. Demand in Spain (+11.3%) and Italy (+2.8%) also remained positive in the past month. In both markets, customer interest in the Audi Q5 held up since the start of the year. 1,618 Spanish customers (+51.5%) and 2,106 Italian buyers (+131.9%) opted for the SUV in the first quarter. Another positive result: In Austria Audi accomplished premium market leadership regarding car registrations between January and March. On the North American continent, Audi also continued to grow in March, increasing sales by 8.3 percent to around 24,550 cars. With around 61,400 deliveries, the company posted growth of 10.2 percent year-on-year in the region since January. In Canada alone, Audi sold 3,404 units in March, continuing its double-digit sales growth of the past few months (+14.0%). Since January, around one in three Canadian Audi customers chose an Audi Q5. Audi of America achieved another record-breaking month, with sales up 7.4 percent to 20,090 units. The Q family once again contributed largely to this success. The SUV share in the United States is currently 52 percent, i.e. one out of every two Audi models sold in this market is a Q model. The Audi Q7 is proving popular. In the past month, one out of every three Audi Q7 models delivered went to an American customer. Across all models, cumulative sales are up 9.7 percent in the United States. https://autojosh.com/audi-sets-new-record-sold-more-463000-vehicles/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove Marpol Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy Seun

It is against the law to drink and drive. Yet, In Nigeria, alcoholic drinks are allowed to be sold at bus stops, motor-parks, etc. https://i68.tinypic.com/1199i0j.jpg Just like most countries in the world, Nigeria has an existing law banning driving while under the influence of alcohol. However, it appears that Nigeria only pays lip service to the enforcement of this law. This is particular evident by the indiscriminate manner in which alcoholic beverages are sold at places where there is an abundance of motorists – especially the commercial types. https://i67.tinypic.com/34pcff9.jpg Indeed, the easiest and fastest place to access alcoholic drinks in Nigeria is at bus stops, motor parks, etc. At motor parks, many commercial drivers typically drink all manner of harsh gins and alcoholic concoctions before they commence a trip. Okada and Keke Marwa operators are not left out of this tradition. A drunk driver behind the wheels of mobile vehicle is capable of taking the most daredevil risk. It could also make them lose concentration or even sleep off. A drunk driver can cause harm to yourself and others. They are disasters waiting to occur. 90 per cent of road accidents in Nigeria is as a result of the indulgence in alcoholic drinks, hard drugs, etc. This is according to The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC). However, this statistics appears rather curious. Especially coming from a safety institution that is not popular for stopping reckless motorist in order to subject them to the DUI test. https://i68.tinypic.com/nqwrc7.jpg How often the FRSC does used breathalyzer to estimate the blood alcohol content (BAC) from a breath of reckless drivers? Even sadder, the FRSC penalty for drink driving in Nigeria is a huge joke. A paltry N5000 fine. In most countries of the world, driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence. Of which the consequences of violating the drunk driving law can attract long-term jail term. In the UK, it can be up to 14 years in jail. These are countries where government value the safety and protection of its people. https://i63.tinypic.com/md2kh3.jpg A society that outlaws drink driving, yet allows the indiscriminate sale of all manner of alcoholic beverages at bus stops, motor parks and garages, etc., can’t be said to be serious about eliminating drink driving – especially amount commercial motorists. For the campaign against drink driving to be taken seriously, the fight needs to start at bus stops, motor parks, garages, etc. https://i66.tinypic.com/mj21yd.jpg Source: https://autojosh.com/why-are-alcoholic-drinks-allowed-to-be-sold-at-motor-parks-bus-stops-etc/ |

When the BRT service was launched into the Lagos transport system, Lagosians received it with a huge sigh of relief. Indeed, it came with a prospect of a very decent means of commuting in the ever-bustling Lagos state. Essentially, the BRT bus service was intended to provide an honorable alternative to the notorious Danfos and Molues. This mode of commuting was especially welcomed by members of the lower middle class. It presented to them a dignified mode of commuting to and from work. https://i63.tinypic.com/29bdp9z.jpg Tragically, the BRT buses, today, are gasping for breath. They tell a sad tale of neglect. These days, riding in BRT buses bears no difference from riding in a Molue. Many of the BRT buses plying the roads are in the scrappiest condition. They represent a total contrast from their once luxurious state. Just like Molues, BRT buses – during trips – are typically overcrowded with passengers. They breakdown during trips. Many of them have no brake or rear lights. They have chassis that are badly in need of bodywork and spray job. https://i66.tinypic.com/2vmd08w.jpg The interior are also no better. For instance, the internal walls are grimy and coated in dark colours that are in fact accumulated dirt that has caked over time. It is very doubtful if these buses are ever washed. The interior also feature tattered upholsteries, dirty handgrips, littered floors, etc. https://i64.tinypic.com/21mvl7o.jpg Even BRT bus conductors have become very discourteous and combative. And unlike before, the conductors now scream out for passengers. Today, the only advantage that BRT buses have over Molues is the absence of itinerant preachers, hawkers, mobile pharmacists, etc. So, where did the system, operators of the service or the government get it wrong? https://i63.tinypic.com/2gtr9cw.jpg https://i64.tinypic.com/11vpg5v.jpg https://i64.tinypic.com/rvdf9h.jpg https://i67.tinypic.com/o7u9g6.jpg https://i68.tinypic.com/no9gxv.jpg https://i64.tinypic.com/4vigyx.jpg https://i63.tinypic.com/2duau7o.jpg https://i66.tinypic.com/9pt5xu.jpg https://i64.tinypic.com/21mvl7o.jpg https://i64.tinypic.com/4vigyx.jpg Source: https://autojosh.com/brt-buses-are-now-the-new-molues-see-photos/ |

Sometimes, the solution to an age-long problem could be the application of common sense. Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode – the Governor of Lagos state – is demonstrating that theory with the large scale integration of slip-roads and lay-bys on Lagos roads. It goes without say – Lagos state is supremely notorious for traffic gridlocks. Unending traffic bottlenecks is one problem that has plagued the state for as long as majority of its residents can remember. With the exploding population in Lagos, it never looked like that the traffic gridlock challenge would be one that can be surmounted. However, the recent integration of slip-roads and lay-bys at some notorious bus stops by the Ambode administration is demonstrating that a solution has always been with us. https://i66.tinypic.com/fv8x87.jpg Some locations that were hitherto notorious for traffic gridlocks are today now experiencing free flow of traffic due to the application of strategic thinking by the current administration in Lagos state. For instance, the recently constructed lay-bys and slip roads at Berger Bus stop, Iyana-Iworo Bus stop, Ketu-Alapere Bus stop, Ogudu Bus stop, etc now ensure a free flow of traffic in those once infamous locations. https://i66.tinypic.com/2q0krhk.jpg Interestingly, these solutions have always been starring at us all the while. Indeed, with common sense – the current administration in Lagos state is bringing sighs of relief to Lagosians. Clearly, Ambode is not joking at these once notorious bus stops. #AmbodeIsNotJoking https://i63.tinypic.com/egtnpt.jpg https://i65.tinypic.com/2621gzl.jpg https://i68.tinypic.com/6rlmd2.jpg https://i68.tinypic.com/m9lshh.jpg https://i65.tinypic.com/rc0bc0.jpg https://i65.tinypic.com/2621gzl.jpg https://i68.tinypic.com/nmnt69.jpg https://i64.tinypic.com/2qb680m.jpg https://i63.tinypic.com/epg29g.jpg https://i67.tinypic.com/2uzaus2.jpg https://i66.tinypic.com/3134mt4.jpg https://autojosh.com/ambode-using-common-sense-to-solve-lagos-traffic-gridlocks/ |
Automaker, Toyota, showcased a new standard-size Toyota Camry in Melbourne, Australia. What is unique about this particular Camry is that it was manufactured using over 500, 000 Lego bricks. Lego is a construction toy consisting of interlocking plastic building blocks. To assemble this Camry, over 900 hours in the course of 8 weeks was spent. This duration is about 40 times the time it takes Toyota to assemble only one example car. That is from welding to painting to final inspection. This Lego-made Camry weighs approximately 2 tons. That is about 0.4 tons more than the actual car. The car also has some cool gadgets such as functional indicator and brake lights, headlights, Toyota logos on its alloy wheels, etc. This Lego bricks-made Camry was designed by Ryan ‘The Brickman’ McNaught, a Lego certified professional, the only one in the southern hemisphere and one of 14 worldwide. The Lego-made Camry is being showcased at the ongoing Melbourne Museum Plaza, at the Brickman Awesome exhibition, Melbourne, Australia. The raining season is about to commence. So, what are we to expect? According to the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Nigeria will experience the heaviest rainfall in our national history in 2018. NiMet specifically predicted that there would be 60% chances of more rains in 2018. So, Nigerians are expected to brace up for a lot of downpours and its attendant inconveniences. For the motorists, Autojosh has highlighted 10 important tips on how to cope with the rains and to avoid dangers caused by rainfalls and floods. https://i65.tinypic.com/eiqns.jpg 1. Turn on your headlights Turning on your headlights in the rain helps with visibility. It makes it easier for you to see things ahead of you. It also makes other motorists to see you. This way, accidents can be avoided. So, no matter what time, whether it daytime or night time, always have your headlight on when you are driving in the rain. https://i67.tinypic.com/2i1lhtx.jpg 2. Be careful, brakes can be affected by water Under rainy or very wet conditions, your brake might not function as effectively as it used to. In addition, water can reduce the friction between the ground and your tyres. In other words, brakes are not too reliable under these conditions. https://i66.tinypic.com/2hs6vc8.jpg 3. Reduce your speed Drive at or below the speed limit. Drive at a speed that does not endanger you and other motorists. Make your speed be just enough for you to see far in front of you and to enable you make a quick driving decision. https://i65.tinypic.com/2uze6g0.jpg 4. Always keep your two hands on the steering wheel While you are driving in the rains, ensure to keep your hands on the steering wheels at all times. Avoid distractions coming from your audio system, phone calls, etc. Focus on the road ahead of you. Use your mirrors (Back View Mirror, Right Hand side & Left Hand side). This is necessary to check out for unusual sources of danger such as falling electric poles, trees, etc. https://i64.tinypic.com/mbk85e.jpg 5. Avoid flooded roads Never drive through heavily flowing or stagnant pool of water on the road. Find a way to gauge the depth of the pool of water. For instance, you can determine the depth of the water by watching other drivers who are more familiar with the terrain to drive through it first. Then you can follow. Still, be careful because flooding the engine of your car can cause the engine to stall, and deep water can actually float your car and take it off the road. https://i63.tinypic.com/24vvhgi.jpg 6. Be careful, hydroplaning may occur Hydroplaning is that situation where a car drives into water and at some point experience little or no contact with the ground. In order to get out of a hydroplaning situation let off the gas and steer straight or slightly in the direction you must go. Do not make sudden motions and remain calm. https://i63.tinypic.com/10zwimw.jpg 7. Avoid pools of water Look out for pools of water. Some of them might be potholes filled with floodwater. So slow down when you encounter one, then careful drive into it if it cannot be avoided. https://i65.tinypic.com/2ekm59g.jpg 8. Use Your hazard lights If the water somehow affects your car, and there seem to be a driving problem, turn on your hazard light - or as we call them in Nigeria, double indicator. This will hint other motorists to be cautious. https://i67.tinypic.com/b7j7ra.jpg 9. Turn on the defroster if the windscreen begins to fog A car’s windscreen generally forms fog on its surface if the air in the car is warmer than the windscreen. When the warm air hits the cold windshield, the water vapor starts to turn to liquid, leaving a wet fog on your windshield. When this happens, turn on the defroster in your car. Defrosters in your vehicle blow warm dry air to clear the fog formed on your windscreen. https://i66.tinypic.com/2vkz1qv.jpg 1o. Maintain a Safe Distance Between your car and the Car ahead of you Under rainy conditions, the roads becomes slippery. Brakes may not effectively function in grinding a car to a sudden halt. Therefore, when the car ahead of you instantly halts, applying your break in order to avoid a collison with the car might not provide the anticipated result. It is therefore wise to keep a good distance between you and the car ahead of you. Anyone that plies most of the important bridges in Lagos would by now be familiar with the sights of parked trailers on them. Some of these bridges include Ojuelegba, Abati, Stadium, Ijora, Iganmu, Eko, Carter and Jibowu bridges. The trailers are parked on these bridges due to the overstretched Apapa port and the absence of loading bays for these trucks. These parked articulated vehicles are also the cause of the chaotic traffic flow on and around these bridges. Besides the traffic gridlocks that these parked trailers cause, there is also an issue that deserves urgent attention. These bridges are currently suffering enormous strain from the weight of these heavy-duty vehicles. https://i68.tinypic.com/2j2vjn5.jpg Note that some of these bridges were built in the early 1970s. By their design, they were constructed to carry moving loads within seconds. They were not built to retain loads for a prolong period. Sometimes, some of these trucks stay parked on the bridges for days and even weeks. Daily, hundreds of these parked articulated vehicles of various sizes can be counted on these bridges. It is also important to note that an empty 20-feet container weighs 2,000kg. A 40-feet container weighs twice that amount. With an average truck weighing about 14,000kg, the total weight of 25 stationary trucks on the Ojuelegba Bridge could be around 450,000kg. Mind you, this does not include the weight of other vehicles that travel on these bridges. What this means is that the 4 bridges on Western Avenue -– Ijora, Stadium, Ojuelegba and Abati Barracks – pack a massive 1.53 million kg on an average day. Does anyone need to inform us that there is a disaster waiting to occur here? https://i67.tinypic.com/o9qtrn.jpg https://i64.tinypic.com/3127j11.jpg https://i66.tinypic.com/av0vba.jpg https://i68.tinypic.com/29n9sw3.jpg https://i63.tinypic.com/jshzqw.jpg https://i68.tinypic.com/oqf8tg.jpg Source: https://autojosh.com/see-how-parked-trailers-are-causing-damage-lagos-bridges-photos/

They don’t build roads. They don’t repair roads. They don’t clean roads. They do not buy vehicles for commercial vehicle operators. They do not stand as guarantors for drivers and riders when they need loans from lenders to purchase their vehicles. Yet, the Agberos in Lagos - under the guise of the NURTW, MOALS, etc. - generate mind-boggling income for themselves from the illegal levies they extort from commercial vehicle operators. What is more unfortunate is that they carry out their illegal activities on roads and infrastructure built and maintained by the state government. Indeed, the agberos are a second government in Lagos. They act with impunity and most times get away with their atrocities. They parade their goons at every bus stops and forcefully collect bizarre levies from helpless commercial bus drivers, tricycles and motorcycles riders, etc. Refusal by drivers and riders to pay these illegal levies can lead to the dismantling of some essential parts of their vehicles such as the wipers, side mirrors, fuel tank covers, engine covers, the rubber window seals, etc. They even beat up drivers and riders, many of whom are hardworking family men toiling to fend for their families in a very economically hostile society. Some of them even die from the assault on them by the agberos. Yet, this method of operations go unquestioned and unregulated. This simply shows the depth of authority exercised by an illegitimate set of hoodlums in a supposed developed Lagos. https://i63.tinypic.com/2zs68g5.jpg Every day, this fantastic mix of transport union and street gang extort from each commercial vehicle operators overwhelming amounts. On some routes, agberos collect as much as N4, 500 in several trances from a single bus driver. Mind you, this is in a state that boasts of tens of thousands of commercial vehicle operators. They charge all sort of levies: "owo booking (booking fee), owo chairman (chairman’s money), owo ero (passengers fee), owo olopa (police fee), owo Lastma (Lastma fee)", ‘owo weekend” ‘owo task force, ‘owo organizing,’ ‘owo traffic,’ ‘owo environmental’, the list is endless. All these also clearly demonstrate the complicity of the different authorities in this illegal enterprise. Perhaps, this explains why the drivers and riders never protest against this oppressive regime. They understand quite well that every authority – the police, LASTMA, state and Local Government – are all in on this. They also understand that there are underlying connivance of politicians in this grand extortionist cartel. Interestingly, a school of thought believes that Agberos in Lagos generate more monies than the monthly IGR of some states. So, where does all these monies go? Exactly how much of the monies that they collect contributes to the internally generated revenue of the Lagos state? https://i64.tinypic.com/2illkc6.jpg Why has successive governments in Lagos state ignored a system that generates jaw-dropping fortune on the roads that they did not build and that they do not maintain? Granted, this menace is not limited to Lagos state alone. However, Lagos state provides a disgraceful model for this practice. What is even more unfortunate is that Lagos state is striving hard for the status of a mega city. Which serious city in the world showcases such an aberration on its streets? https://i64.tinypic.com/1zyykbd.jpg On record, the only period that Lagosians enjoyed some respite from the menace of the Agberos was during the regime of Col. Buba Marwa. His “Operation Sweep” - a joint police and military intervention - ensured that Lagos state enjoyed temporal salvation from the terror unleashed by these hoodlums. Tragically, the return of democracy in 1999 resurrected and gave impetus to this regime of terror activity. Successive administrations appeared to defend their interests. In fairness, the administration of ex-Governor Fashola made a feeble attempt to confront this illegality. On August 3, 2012, the Fashola administration enacted the Lagos road traffic laws. This law outrightly banned the activities of the Agberos both at motor parks and at bus stops. Curiously, the enforcement of that law by the chest-beating administration only lasted for 3 days. Interestingly, that law still exists. Yet, there has been no political will to enforce it. Also worthy of note is that, 50% of the violent activities in Lagos is because of the activities of the agberos. Their frequent clashes with rival groups constitute about 50% of the spate of insecurities experience in the state. So, is the covenant politicians have with the agberos more important to them than the social welfare of the provision of welfare and security for the citizens? In conclusion, it is quite curious that Lagos state - a state that is so desperate to further increase its IGR - has not looked in the direction of taking over the duty of “taxing” commercial vehicle operators from the agberos. Perhaps, if they look in that direction and introduce a more civilize method of collecting levies from drivers and riders; it will come with not a few benefits. For instance, there will be less traffic gridlocks, less arbitrary hike in fares, sanity at bus stops, saner driving by commercial drivers, and of course, more IGR for the state. Hate ‘em, love ‘em – boarding a danfo is akin to taking a ride on the wild side. Boarding a danfo is always an opportunity to witness some bizarre stuff. It also gives you an opportunity to experience some unusual behaviours from the driver, conductor or co-passengers. Anyway, here are some awkward things you are sure to notice while taking a danfo ride. https://i63.tinypic.com/2h3slk4.jpg 1.Wires serves as ignition keys They rarely have ignition key. Instead, to start the danfo, the drivers would have to rub together a number of wires located around the ignition point. 2. The seat-belt is slack, doesn’t grip or has no place to plug it to The seat-belt is there just to fulfill all righteousness. Most of the seat belts lack the ability to carry out the function that they were designed for. This is because a lot of them have lost their elasticity, they have nowhere to plug or buckle them to, etc. In order to evade arrest by traffic law enforcers, the driver and the front-seat passengers would simply have it hanging loosely over their shoulders. 3. An attached “Ijoko” (wooden stool) or plastic seat make up the front seats Danfos typically have a space in-between the driver and the front seat passenger’s seat. In a bid to maximize every available space in the danfo, a kitchen stool or a white plastic chair is fitted into that space. This way, an extra passenger can be accommodated. And of course, the driver and his conductor make a little extra buck. It is the least comfortable seat in the bus; however, comfort is the least consideration for commuters in Lagos. 4. Someone always get to smell the conductor’s armpit A passenger in the bus is always afforded the opportunity to sniff the conductor’s armpit. That happens if you are unfortunate to seat right where the conductor reserve for himself to stand – that is, by the door area. As the conductor bends over to collect fares from the passengers sitting behind you, he effectively puts you in a vantage position to catch a whiff of the smell emerging from his armpit. 5. No matter the threat by the conductor, someone always presents a large bill as fare Before the trip starts, it is typical for the conductor to demand that only commuters with exact fares should board his danfo. Such demands are accompanied by all manner of threats. Still, this condition is hardly adhered to. There is always at least one passenger that will present a large bill (N500 or N1000) for payment for a fare of about N50 or N100. 6. There is always a whiff of alcohol originating from the driver’s breathe While sitting on the front row next to the driver, you always get a whiff of alcohol being discharged from the driver’s breathe. You begin to wonder if alcohol consumption is prerequisite for driving a danfo in Lagos. 7. It is a taboo for the conductor to sit For whatever reason, conductors appear to detest sitting down. Standing, or squatting, inside the bus, or simply hanging outside the bus is the preferred position for danfo conductors. https://i68.tinypic.com/2hwoide.jpg 8. There is a physics lab at the back of the driver’s seat That is where the vehicle battery, solvents and some electrical wirings are connected together in series or in parallel. The slightest contact by the passenger siting around that area can effectively bring a danfo in motion to a halt. 9. Rudeness is the default character of the conductors Perhaps, the consistency of dealing with unruly passengers have configured them to be so. Conductors exhibit absolutely no sense of courtesy in them. 10. There are always instruction for passengers to shift There is always a passenger that instructs other passengers in a row to shift when it is obvious that there is nowhere to shift to. 11. No item on the dashboard works Not even the fuel gauge works on the dashboard. If at all anything on the dashboard works, it is the audio system which typically blast songs by popular fuji artistes. 12. Comfort is the least consideration in a danfo The seats are made up of planks. Some seats do not have backrests. A row sits 5 instead of 4, all manner of body odour persist, etc. Yet, no one complains. 13. The window-side of the front seat is hot cake Passengers are so eager to sit at the window side of the front seat. A passenger sitting there would typically come down from the danfo to allow another to embark so as for him or her to retain that position. Remember the very imposing Sunburn Yacht Hotel that moored for about 4 years at the Marina Waterfront at Marina, Lagos? Throughout that period, it was the cynosure of all eyes. Whatever happened to it? https://i67.tinypic.com/not5ch.jpg Recall that, in November 2008, the Lagos State government through the then commissioner of tourism and Inter-governmental Relations, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi, amidst pomp and pageantry, took delivery of the luxurious ship. It is on record that Senator Afikuyomi told Lagosians that the floating hotel was the first of its kind in Africa and the Middle East. He also said that it would put the State and Nigeria in the league of the first five major cities of the world with similar hospitable facilities and tourism earnings capabilities. Afikuyomi also added that the yacht came to Lagos to turn around the state’s fortune in tourism and hospitality services. The Sunburn Yacht Hotel is a custom-built yacht. It features 102 elegant suites. It was brought to Lagos state from England. The yacht hotel was expected to serve as a four-star hotel and a revenue earner for the state. It was said to be worth about 5 Billion Naira. But today, there is no trace of it anywhere. So, again, we ask – where is the Sunburn Yacht Hotel? https://i68.tinypic.com/5yi9tu.jpg https://autojosh.com/where-is-the-sunburn-yacht-hotel/ |
