Like the name implies, Travel Health Insurance is a policy that covers any eventuality that occurs when you travel out of Nigeria to another country; be it for pleasure or business.

When have you ever travelled and kept money for a possible urgent medical intervention?

Many of us are so medically fit, and some have not been to the hospital in the past 5 years, so we really do not think that we could fall ill or get involved in an accident abroad that may require medical treatment or repatriation back to Nigeria to get treatment. We all travel with only “flex & shopping” money.

Do you even know that Travel Health Insurance (also known as InsurVisa) is now required by some embassies before you are issued a visa to their country?

If you are travelling to a Schengen country, it is compulsory for you to have a Travel Health Insurance that has a cover of 30,000 Euro.

Below is how the need for Travel Health Insurance was clearly stated on Finland’s consular website:

“Before the visa can be issued, the applicant must present an insurance policy as described below:

must be issued by an accredited Schengen insurance policy company
has to be valid in all Schengen countries
has to cover expenses caused by illness, accident, medical care and possible repatriation up to the amount of 30,000 Euro
has to be valid for the whole duration of the journey
has to be presented only if the visa has been approved”
And on the site, the Insurance Companies accepted by Schengen countries were listed – Mutual Benefits Assurance (whom I represent) is one of the four listed accredited Insurance companies that are accepted in Nigeria.

Also, Travel Health Insurance can be required if you are visiting the United States of America and Canada. You should know the health systems in these countries are presently complicated, and their government do not want to be liable for the medical care or repatriation of tourists, hence the need to have insurance cover.

Aside from the fact that Travel Health Insurance is compulsory to gain entry into some countries, the need to have this cover when travelling worldwide cannot be overemphasised. Eventualities like accidental death, repatriation, emergency medical intervention occurs.

For example, do you remember the popular Nollywood actress, Moji Olaiya, who died of Cardiac Arrest in Canada? Her family had to raise funds from public figures like APC Chieftain Bola Tinubu and Ekiti State governor Ayo Fayose for a monetary contribution to have her body repatriated back to Nigeria for burial. If there was a Travel Health Insurance policy cover on her, her family would have been saved the hassle of seeking funds from these public figures. This is exactly why the policy is important for every Nigeria travelling out of the country.

Another importance of Travel Health Insurance that is always overlooked by people who intends to travel overseas is that this policy aides their visa acquisition process. Many embassies do not categorically state that Health Insurance policy is important to get into their countries, but it is a known fact among travel agents that this insurances policy can influence your visa acquisition positively. There is a chance your visa application would be rejected if you don't have a Travel Health Insurance Policy.

The benefits of travel health insurance are peace of mind and confidence that you get when you are covered and travel abroad. The covers have a limit of 30,000 Euro for any accident, medical care, and repatriation. If you need make a claim, you just walk into any designated partner of your insurance company in the Schengen countries, present your policy certificate, and get all the necessary assistance. Or simply contact your insurance company for assistance.

Hyundai Motors Nigeria Limited (HMNL) today announced a comprehensive 30-day discounted service campaign, beginning from 01 November 2017 for owners and fleet managers of Hyundai cars including Hyundai Commercial Vehicles.

The campaign which is tagged ‘Before service clinic’ is absolutely an initiative of HMNL aimed at helping customers rediscover the value of their Hyundai vehicles and appreciate the commitment of the dealership to the brand.

Announcing the scheme in Lagos, the Hyundai Motors Nigeria Limited head of after sales - Srinivas Jayaram said up to 50% discount on body parts and 15% discount on body repair and mechanical labour charges would be permitted on applicable services during the campaign.

He explained that the 25–point-checkup initiative in designed to reassure customers and offer additional values such as free diagnosis and inspection; free labour charge on oil and filter replacements, free air-conditioning checks and free quotation with flexible option to repair or replace parts only valid till December 31st.

Customers would in addition be granted special prices on upholstery cleaning, engine steam wash, wheel alignment and balancing as well as body wax, the HMNL head of after sales assured.

Also adding that the dealership understands the evolving needs and preferences of Hyundai, Mr. Jayaram said: “We have retrained our service technicians in multiple auto repair disciplines and acquaint them extensively in Hyundai cutting-edge and ever changing technology and we are proud to say, we have some of the best technicians that are trained to handle complex auto repair jobs.”

The 30-day ‘before service clinic’ is also intended to help customers’ tune-up their vehicles to avoid undue cessations that could result in unplanned cost implications before the yuletide.

Mr. Jayaram however said: “Our obligation at HMNL is to make ownership of Hyundai vehicles an enjoyable experience and we recognize the importance of excellence both in quality of our vehicles and in after sales service.”

Meanwhile, the wholly subsidiary of Stallion Motors has said the service campaign, which is, entirely applicable to 2014 and earlier Hyundai models are to be fixed at designated Hyundai Motors Nigeria Limited service centers at both Orile and Ijesha Lagos; Abuja and Port-Harcourt, as well as Hyundai Commercial Vehicle garage Isolo Lagos.

Imagine traveling from Lagos to Abuja in a Toyota Sienna minivan and the driver parks to pee at Benin bypass.. And the next thing, the vehicle starts to roll-away with the passengers inside.  

That the exact issue 2005-07 and 2009-10 models of Siennas are having. The problem is, the gear lever of some of the vehicle can shift out of park position without pressing the brakes.. and this can make the vehicle roll-away especially when the parking brake is not engaged. This is a family vehicle that doubles as school buses in Nigeria.. Therefore, it has a responsibility of keeping the kids safe.. which it has fallen short of.

In order to fix this, Toyota would replace the shift-lock solenoids and this process will commence from 1st of December. 

If your Sienna is beginning to show signs of this problem, make sure you get it checked pending when the recall gets to your side.

In a bid to prevent motorcycles from riding on major roads, Lagos State Task Force officials invaded one of the most notorious places you will find Okadas in Lagos. It's 2nd Rainbow bus-stop around Mile 2. Consequently, 163 motorcycles were impounded and 29 bike riders arrested. 

Rainbow bus-stop is notorious for bikes because of the impassable state of the road leading to Apapa through TINCAN.. These bikes have been a saving grace for people who ply that route as private vehicles and commercial buses would take forever to get to Apapa.

The Kia Sinaan does not look like something for this century. May be for the next. The design was conceived and modeled by Daniel Yixuan Song who is a talented futuristic artist. 

It looks like a fully-electric hypercar with autonomous features... and some would say it looks like a computer mouse. But it clearly displays what cars would look like in few years to come.

Facebook may become the largest car selling platform as they will start listing cars for sale. The networking giant wants to make buying and selling cars easier.. hence, they have teamed up with Kelley Blue Book, Edmunds, Cars.com and some other car dealers. 

You will be able to sort your search according to make, model, year, mileage, location etc.. and car valuation from Kelley Blue Book (KBB) will also be made available with just a click. 

You can ask questions about the car via Facebook Messenger and even schedule a test drive. 

According to Bowen Pan who is Facebook's product manager, “Autos are one of the most popular categories of Marketplace”.

It all happened around 3:30pm yesterday at Jabi Area of Abuja.. when an unnamed VIO officer started dragging the steering with a taxi driver who was trying to escape arrest. 

Consequently, the car with registration number ABJ 189 XD ploughed straight into the Mr Bigg's restaurant on Awolowo Way. The accident injured the lady sitting on the passenger's seat of the taxi as well as some staff of the restaurant which was badly damaged.

Japanese auto maker -Toyota ,has made it known that they would be phasing out Internal Combustion Engines (ICE).According to its Chief Safety Technology Officer -Kiyotaka Ise,production of ICE cars would end in 2040.This announcement was made at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.

This target doesn't mean Toyota would produce only all-electric cars ,they would also be making hybrids and hydrogen fuel cell powered cars .

Toyota has made a lot of progress with hydrogen fuel cell powered cars and they are currently testing it in trucks .

They are joining other brands like BMW,Ford,Tesla and even Nissan in making sure carbon emission reduce by 90% in 2050.

The attractive, exciting, extrovert new BMW X2 will celebrate its market premiere in March 2018. Its stance on the road recalls a finely-tuned athlete – and fuses the rugged profile typical of a BMW X model with the sporting grace of a coupe.

Three variants are available from launch; the BMW X2 sDrive20i petrol model with 192 hp, the X2 xDrive20d diesel variant with 190 hp and X2 xDrive25d diesel with 231 hp.

The first US legal McLaren F1 was converted by Ameritech, and was approved immediately with its centered driver’s seat.

Owned by a single person for almost 22 years, the McLaren still has about 9,600 miles on it. But the most interesting fact about the McLaren is that, for the past seven years, the prices of the US legal McLaren F1 have gone up radically, for instance in 2010 at Pebble Beach Auction, an F1 sold for about $3.575 million, in 2013, another F1 cost $8.47 million, in 2015, a one of two LM-spec McLaren F1 dispatched for N1.3 billion ($13.75 million), and now this F1 had a N5.8 billion ($15.62 Million) stamp on it!

After all the excessive media hype , the first 30 Tesla Model 3 cars got new owners on Friday.

Already having a queue of about 500,000 people who are hungry for this vehicle ,Tesla is struggling and would go through “manufacturing hell” to meet up with demand-according to Elon Musk.

He also said they are aiming at 20,000 units a month by December .

It would be nice to remind you that all these 500,000 people paid a refundable deposit of $1000 each ,that is about #400,000.

The price tag of $35,000(#14 Million) was really hyped ,a lot .Here are some shocking disappointments ,even though they are not not really surprising .

1. The base model comes with a range of 220 miles, you would have to pay an extra $9000(#3.6M) for a long-range battery if you want a range of 310 miles .

2. Any color apart from black costs an additional $1000(#400k)

3. If you want 19-inch sport wheels ,oga your money na extra $1,500 ( #600k)

4. Tesla’s semi-autonomous(not full one o) system comes with an additional $5000(#2M),if you want the complete autonomous you go pay $3000 which wont even work without the semi -autonomous system(its a pre-requisite).

5. If you want to join the queue and order now ,Oga Musk said you would have to wait till the end of 2018 before you get your moto.
Meaning ,if you want to spice things up , you would have to pay another #5-#10 Million depending on your preference .

If they can meet up this target of 500,000 cars per year ,they would outsell brands like BMW,Lexus and even Mercedes in the United States.

But I am sure they would sell like -maybe 1 1/2(one and half cars -not million o-count with your fingers na ) in Nigeria (Just kidding,am I ?).

But I believe Tesla has a bright future and prices would go down in few years as the prices of batteries come down .

Bosch and Daimler have teamed up to realise driverless parking (Automated Valet Parking) in the multi-storey car park at the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. Cars now proceed without a driver to their assigned parking space in response to a command issued by smartphone, without any need for the driver to supervise the manoeuvre. Automated valet parking marks an important milestone on the way to autonomous driving.

The pilot solution at the multi-storey car park of the Mercedes-Benz Museum represents the world’s first infrastructure-supported solution for an automated drive-up and parking service in real-life dual operating mode. From the beginning of 2018, visitors to the museum’s multi-storey car park will be able to experience the convenient service first-hand and avoid spending time parking their cars.

“We are approaching autonomous driving faster than many people suspect. The driverless parking solution at the Mercedes-BenzMuseum demonstrates in impressive fashion just how far the technology has come,” said Dr Michael Hafner, Head of Automated Driving and Active Safety at Mercedes-Benz Cars Development.

“Parking will be an automated process in the future. By applying an intelligent multi-storey car park infrastructure and networking it with vehicles, we have managed to realise driverless parking substantially earlier than planned,” said Gerhard Steiger, Director of the Chassis Systems Control unit at Bosch.

Anyone can reserve a car using a smartphone app. The vehicle rolls into the pick-up area autonomously to start the journey. The return procedure is equally convenient: the customer parks the vehicle in the car park’s drop-off area and hands it back by smartphone app. After being registered by the intelligent system installed at the multi-storey car park, the car is started and guided to an assigned parking space. Driverless parking is made possible by an intelligent multi-storey car park infrastructure from Bosch in conjunction with the vehicle technology from Mercedes-Benz.

Sensors installed in the car park monitor the driving corridor and its surroundings and steer the vehicle. The technology on board the car performs safe driving manoeuvres in response to the commands from the car park infrastructure and stops the vehicle in good time when necessary. The sensors for the multi-storey car park infrastructure and the communications technology come from Bosch. Daimler is providing the private museum car park and pilot vehicles, defining the interface between infrastructure and vehicle together with Bosch and adapting the sensor technology and software in the vehicles accordingly.

Let me enlighten you a bit.


Bajaj Auto is as old as time itself,I can bet my 30 Billion in the account that all of you reading this were not born when the company was founded.Yes i said it,Bajaj Auto was founded on November 29, 1945.

As at the end of 2016 they made about $3.5 billion dollars in revenue,and they boast of almost 10,000 workers.So they are not doing as bad as you think.

Now back to the main topic :

Most of us are aware of the fact that Volkswagen (VW) has been having a pretty rough time with their recent scandal.They have paid massive sums as fine ,running into billions.As a result they have had loses that has affected a lot,Ducati included.

In a bid to get back on their feet they want to sell off Ducati ,they have also laid off thousands of workers.

Before KTM-Bajaj(KTM is Bajaj’s partner) showed interest in acquiring Ducati, Harley-Davidson already did.

Here is what Rajiv Bajaj, MD of Bajaj Auto said,

“We are very close to finalising a very promising alliance, it’s not certain, that it will happen, but if it happens, it will open up enormous possibilities for the company. That is why we keep our money (cash on books) with us, so, once in a while, when an opportunity comes along, we are ready.”
