My friend and I stood on the side of the road opposite the Ikeja Airport Hotel, Ikeja. An Okada rider stopped a few feet from where we stood. He had a passenger, a middle-aged man. The man had with him a midsize luggage. The Okada rider - an "aboki" - and the passenger were engaged in an animated disagreement. Repeatedly, and perhaps to prove a point, the Okada rider points in the direction of Airport Hotel. This, for some weird reason, always seem to infuriate the passenger. Then the passenger turned to my friend and I, and then asked, "please, where is the airport?" Instantly, it dawned on us what thedisagrement was all about. Calmly, we explained to him that the airport isn't anywhere close by. The airport is about 2.5km away. And at that time of the day, pockets of heavy traffic hold-ups should be anticipated along the way. We then explained to the passenger how he would get there. However, the "aboki" was unrelenting. He was still determined to impress his point. Again, pointing in the direction of Ikeja Airport Hotel, he muttered to his passenger, "Na him be dis". The passenger was livid. With a note of hysteria in his voice, he lamented to us how he had chartered the Okada at Ojota. The agreement was for the Okada rider to get him to the airport as speedily as possible. He had a flight to catch. At this point, the passenger had become evidently distressed. Not minding the Okada rider, he frantically alighted from the Okada. The new plan was to secure the service of another Okada. And, hopefully, it would be one with a rider that could tell the difference between the airport and a hotel. At that point we asked him, "When is your flight?" "6pm", he replied. Simultaneously, my friend and I looked at our wrist-watches. It was 5: 51pm. https://autojosh.com/aboki-the-okada-rider/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove Marpol Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy Seun

Unknown to some of us, there are some bad driving habits that we often exhibit with our cars. These bad driving habits can place your car under unnecessary strain. Some of these bad driving habits might even lead to problems that will require you to waste money on needless repairs. The interesting thing is that you might not even be aware that you are doing some of them. Autojosh has put together 5 common bad driving habits that can damage your vehicle. https://i68.tinypic.com/2nizvd.jpg Carrying Too Much Load Carrying very heavy load is an excellent way to damage a car suspension system. This is because the heavier a car is, the more pressure that is put on the car suspension system. So, ensure to keep your car as light as possible always. Only carry necessary items in your car. https://i64.tinypic.com/xbabdh.jpg Revving Your Car’s Engine Before It Is Warm It is not advisable to rev your car engine immediately after you turn on the ignition. Allow your car to warm itself for some minutes before you step on the throttle. Doing this will allow oil to circulate throughout the engine. It will also allow the oil and blocks to work at the right temperature. Revving the engine will not hasten up these processes. https://i67.tinypic.com/r6ycuf.jpg Allowing Your Fuel Tank To Dry up One of the best car maintenance habit is to always top up the fuel in your tank in order for it not to go so low. Filling up your tank can help to prevent damage to your fuel system. Dirt and particles from fuel settle at the bottom of every fuel tank. When you allow the level of the fuel in your tank go so low, you make your car to suck up the dirt particles. This process over a period can have a damaging effect on the car engine. https://i66.tinypic.com/91dyyc.jpg Not Using Your Parking Break Contrary to what most people think, the parking brake or hand brake is not only designed to be applied when the surface is not level or slant. Your parking brake should be used at all times. Not using the parking brake puts the whole weight of your car on a very little piece of metal in the transmission called the parking pawl. The parking pawl is a very small object. It is just about the size of your finger. So with too much pressure on it, the parking pawl can eventually break from too much weight on it. This can be avoided when the parking brake is always applied, this way the load on the car is evenly distributed. https://i68.tinypic.com/fz22aa.jpg Ignoring Warning Signs There are warning signs that your car gives you that informs you that something is wrong . Do not ignore such warnings. Ignoring them might mean letting the problem degenerate to the point where it damages the car. When your car start making unusual sounds, or giving you some warning signs, ensure to immediately inspect the car to find out the cause of the warnings. Indeed, this is not the cleanest of times of our dear Lagos state. No matter the location – highbrow, lowbrow - one thing has become common to all – heaps of garbage on the street. No doubt, the only legally approved organization for clearing up refuse in Lagos,Visionscape, is clearly overwhelmed. As much as one is not aware of the contractual details of the clean-up arrangement for Lagos state, however it is very apparent that the sudden disengagement of the services of the PSP operators wasn’t exactly a well thought out one. But whatever the case, Visionscape urgently needs to up their game. These sights are not exactly what any serious city that strives to attain the status of a mega city should project. https://i64.tinypic.com/68bg2p.jpg Marina, Lagos https://i67.tinypic.com/16lb3na.jpg Tinubu Square, Lagos Island https://i66.tinypic.com/2h33dvt.jpg Ojuelegba, Bus stop https://i65.tinypic.com/29qir5t.jpg Adeniran Ogunsanya, Surulere https://i65.tinypic.com/2s15e02.jpg Agege-Oshodi Expressway https://i67.tinypic.com/34nirfa.jpg Bolade Oshodi bus stop https://i68.tinypic.com/35asjmb.jpg Obalende https://i67.tinypic.com/2d2d53q.jpg Western Avenue, Surulere https://i68.tinypic.com/iylxxy.jpg Mushin-Olosa https://i66.tinypic.com/2eeiyyu.jpg Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja https://i65.tinypic.com/29kwh2f.jpg Masha, Surulere https://i65.tinypic.com/6i9yqp.jpg Ejigbo https://i64.tinypic.com/jac13k.jpg Ikeja-Under bridge https://i68.tinypic.com/rtoty1.jpg https://i65.tinypic.com/nyfojs.jpg Source: https://autojosh.com/mountains-of-garbage-a-common-feature-of-every-part-of-lagos-today/ |
https://i68.tinypic.com/2q8poiv.jpg A lot of people do hear of head gasket blowing but don’t have the basic knowledge of how it works and what will lead to this blowing. This post is here to address the issue. At the end of this post, you will know the work of the head gasket, what might cause it to blow and how to possibly prevent it from blowing. Before we proceed, let’s know what the head gasket does in cars. Head gasket is a gasket that sits between the engine block and cylinder heads in an internal combustion engine. Its purpose is to seal the cylinders to ensure maximum compression and avoid leakage of coolant or engine oil into the cylinders. The head gasket also acts as a passageway for motor oil and coolant, and keeps the chambers separated so there is no mixing of the two liquids. These liquids should stay separated at all times because they serve completely different purpose. Let’s now move to what will cause your head gasket to blow. Engine overheat/Extreme engine temperature. This has been the most common cause of blown head gasket. When the engine starts running hotter than it was designed to, a lot of things might go wrong. When an overheating engine is not properly handled, it might result to blown head gasket. Prolonged engine usage at high RPM is also a cause of engine overheat What will be the effect of driving a car with blown head gasket? Operating your car with a bad or blown head gasket will certainly lead to engine damage. The moment your head gasket got ruined, a time bomb for your engine destruction will just be activated. If the fault is detected on time and properly handled, it may save you the cost of replacing the entire engine and other parts that could get damaged as a result of the blown head gasket. What symptoms will tell me I have a blown head gasket? 1. Abnormally high engine temperature: https://i65.tinypic.com/2moe91s.jpg This is the most obvious of all the symptoms. This is a cause of blown head gasket as well as a symptom. Once the head gasket is damaged, the engine temperature will sky rocket. 2. Low coolant level: This is because a blown head gasket will always leak coolants. 3. Sluggish car performance: Your vehicle will stop running smoothly as it used to. You’ll notice your engine stall, jolt slutter. Your engine will lose power. 4. Engine oil discolouration: https://i68.tinypic.com/o0v0hu.jpg This is as a result of coolant mixing with the engine oil. This will appear lighter than normal, and will take almost a milk-chocolate-like colour. You’ll notice this when you use your dipstick to check your car oil level. 5. Light-colored smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe: https://i68.tinypic.com/rc4nc0.jpg The smoke could be gray or white in colour. This is because the damaged head gasket allowed coolant to leak into the combustion chamber. This will alter the right combustion of air and fuel. When you notice these symptoms, have your car checked ASAP to avoid things getting out of hand. https://autojosh.com/explanation-head-gasket-blown/ |

Can you identify which famous street in Lagos that is in the picture? Well, you will be easily forgiven if you can’t identify the street. Indeed, that is the very popular Broad street on Lagos Island, Lagos. Or more appropriately, that was how Broad street looked like in the ’40s. Now, talk about how time changes things. Perhaps, if the families that own those lands in the picture had resolutely resisted every temptation to sell those lands, today, they would probably rank as billionaires today. Have you traveled by the Oworonshoki end of the Third Mainland Bridge lately? Ever wondered about what is going on at the Oworoshoki waterfront? Indeed, anyone that has passed through that part of Lagos would have noticed an enormous “sand filling” – or land reclamation work – going on there. Once-upon-a-time, not-too-long-ago, that spot used to be a beehive of illegal dredging activities in Lagos. So, after sand-filling the waterfront, whats next? Well, here is whats next. The Lagos State Government is working to transform the Oworonshoki Waterfront into one of the biggest transportation, tourism and entertainment hubs in Nigeria. Yes. An elegant Mega Ferry and Bus terminus is about to be built at that once blighted location. And that’s not all. The Mega Jetty and Bus terminal will have other entertainment and Tourism facilities like multiple Boutique, hotels, museums/art galleries, sport and recreational facilities as well as a 1000 capacity car park, based on the design master plan of the area. Upon completion, Lagosians would be able to embark on travel from Oworonshoki either via water, using the Jetty Terminal or via Ultra-Modern Buses departing from the New Bus Terminal. This project is part of a grand design by the Lagos state government to reduce human and vehicular traffic gridlocks on the roads connecting the Island, Apapa and other parts of the Mainland. When a car has suspension problems, the symptom is easy to tell, but tracing the exact source of the problem is usually the challenge. The source of the symptom could be a faulty or worn out ball. However, to spot the exact problem with a suspension system would require the attention of an experienced mechanic in order to spot the problem. Unusual Sounds Vehicles with faulty suspension often exhibits some unusual sounds coming from the tyre areas. For instance, some peculiar sounds associated with suspension problems include; 1. Clanking Sound This sound is like metal hitting against metal. It typically is heard when the vehicle is riding over bumps or potholes. It may be a sign of failing control arms bushing or failing stabilizer end links. 2. Knocking Sound When you hear a knocking sound coming from your suspension area, especially when driving over potholes or bumps, this is usually a sign of bad struts or bad strut mounts. A bad ball joint can also cause this. 3. Rotational This sound constantly grows louder as the vehicle goes faster. This is usually as a result of a failing wheel bearing or of noisy tyres “Bouncing test” So, if your suspension system exhibits some of the above signs, there is a simple test that can determine if truly the suspension system is faulty or not. To carry out this test, follow the steps highlighted below. Step 1: With the car in “park,” press down on the front of the car with all your weight, “bounce” it a few times, then release. Step 2: Do it again on the rear of the vehicle. If the car continues to rock or bounce more than 2-3 times after you release it, the suspension is wearing out. A vehicle’s suspension system is the part that connects the vehicle’s body to its wheels. The function of the suspension is to provide control over the vehicle when it bounces during a rough ride due to bad roads, potholes or bumps. The suspension is the mechanism that makes driving in a car comfortable. It also causes the hard impact from a bouncing vehicle not to be felt by the passengers. It is also the job of the suspension to protect the vehicle from damage from the numerous impact it has with the ground during rough rides. A vehicle suspension system is made up of the shock absorber, springs, tyres, tyre air, and other components that connects your vehicle to its wheels. When a car has suspension problems, the symptom is easy to tell, but tracing the exact source of the problem is usually the challenge. The source of the symptom could be a faulty or worn out ball joints, springs, shock absorber, struts, etc. Knowing the exact source of the problem most time would require the attention of an experience mechanic in order to spot the problem. It is also important to ask your mechanic to routinely check your tyres and suspension whenever your vehicle is undergoing a regular oil change. So, how can we tell if our cars have suspension problems? To know if your suspension system is faulty, here are some of the signs. 1. When you hear strange clanking or knocking sounds when driving especially over bumps or at corners. 2. Constantly correcting the steering wheel to ensure that the vehicle goes straight. 3. If your car rides are no longer smooth, or when every bump causes the vehicle body to “bounce.” A rough ride is an obvious sign that your vehicle’s suspension needs work. 4. If your vehicle dips or noses further than anticipated when you apply the brakes, this is a symptom of a worn out shock absorber. 5. If your vehicles aligns to one side when driving. This could also be an indicator that the suspension and steering components have become worn out. Another reason for this could be because level of tread wear is different on your tires, or you are in need of a wheel alignment. 6. If your vehicle appears to be drifting or pulling away when you are making a turn at a corner. This is a sign that the suspension is no longer carrying out one of its function of keeping the vehicle stable. It is risky driving a vehicle that exhibits these signs. There is also the risk that your vehicle might roll over when in motion. When this is noticed, it is very important to get the vehicle checked by a mechanic as soon as possible. 7. If your vehicle bounces repeatedly when it drives into a pothole or a bump. The vehicle suspension is supposed to provide stability when it drives into a pothole. Continuous bouncing is a sign that the vehicle has a worn out or damaged shock absorber. 8. If your shock absorber looks oily or greasy. An oily-looking shock absorber is a sign that the shock is damaged. You can tell an oily shock absorber when you look under the vehicle to inspect the shocks. If the shock is stained with greasy fluid, chances are that it has been damaged. It’s important to replace them at that point. 9. If you begin to feel the impact when your vehicle drives into a bump or pothole. When the impact of running into a pothole is transferred to your body – or is really felt, your ride is no longer enjoyable or cozy, then its might just be the right time to have your suspension checked. https://autojosh.com/signs-that-your-car-has-a-suspension-system-problem/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove Marpol Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy Seun

The road networks in Lagos are very complicated. Navigating one’s way around the city is nothing short of an adventure. No matter how long you have resided in Lagos, you just keep discovery new traffic routes every other day. Even veterans in the taxicab business are sometimes clueless about some traffic routes in the metropolis. In Lagos, there are consequences for ignorance of some traffic routes. For instance – unwittingly driving in the opposite direction of traffic on a road designated as “One-Way” can have severe consequences. An offending motorist risk an arrest for this. Ignorance is never accepted as an excuse. In Lagos, the penalty for driving against traffic on a road designated as “One-Way” route is 1 to 3-year jail term. And the vehicle also gets forfeited to the state government. Alternatively, an offended can pay N25, 000. That is how dire the consequences are when one flaunts the “One-Way” traffic law in Lagos. However, it appears as though the government and the road authorities are fraudulently benefiting from the one-way traffic law in Lagos. This appears so because they seem to encourage motorists to contravene the laws by not making any effort to place conspicuous road-signs indicating “One-Way: traffic on these roads. For instance, in Lagos, some locations are enormously notoriously for having a huge number of booby traps disguised as “One-Way” roads. Some of these locations include Shomolu, Apapa, Yaba, Lagos Island, etc. Many of the routes in the aforementioned locations have absolutely no road signs to indicate that they are one way routes. Even if present, they are ingeniously hidden behind some obstruction – or far away from sight. Clearly, without any visible signs, these roads have been designed to be one-way ticket to jail. Indeed, the lack of road signs in some of these locations to indicate their one-way status is quite worrisome. Even more worrisome is that Lagos state is one place where it is quite common for a road that is a “two-way” road today to suddenly metamorphose into a one-way road the following day. And with no road-signs to indicate such a change – motorists can be arrested for violating the sudden law. Worse of all, the police, LASTMA, Council officials, etc typically use the one-way situation to feed fat off the ignorance of some motorists. So, in the absence of road signs to direct motorists, isn’t it fraudulent for the authorities, or the police, to arrest a motorist for taking “one-way”? Or what do you think? The individuals in the river (indicated by an arrow) are not your regular kind of fishermen. These kind-hearted and extremely brave travelers along the Lagos-Benin expressway risked their lives to fish out some travelers that were trapped in a submerged commercial bus that plummeted from a bridge into the river beneath. They took the risk without caring to know the ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, etc of the victims. If you asked me, I'd say these are True Nigerian heroes! Now, I think these sort of scenarios should be where national award honourees should be drawn from. Or what do you think? The Geneva Motor Show is not just a festival to showcase brand new cars. Automotive tuning companies are not left out of the auto-festival. One of the biggest car-tuning corporations - Brabus - makes a representation at this years’ edition. Three of Brabus’ tuned saloon cars exhibited at the motor show stood out as the meanest. First, is the Mercedes-AMG E63 S in Brabus 800 spec. This midsize premium saloon is pushing down 739 HP as well as 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of torque, for an electronically limited top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph) and a 3-seconds flat 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration time. Simply put, there are not many four-door cars that can keep up in to this performance like the Brabus Mercedes-AMG E63 S. Perhaps, this is why it cost about N111million ($309,700). However, Brabus also came with something better. Also on exhibition is the very same Brabus 800 kit, installed on the Mercedes-AMG S63 S. While you might think that this would not be as quick as the E63 S, and technically you would be right. The difference is, simply put, insignificant. The S-Class-based Brabus 800, with the same amount of power and torque as the E-Class we just talked about, will hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.1 seconds and max out at the same 300 km/h (186 mph) as its smaller sibling. The S-Class-based Brabus 800 is up for sale for N149million ($444,000). Lastly, there is the Brabus 900. This saloon car is based on the updated Mercedes-Maybach S650. This full-size limo is powered by a molded twin-turbo V12, massaged to deliver no less than 888 Hp. This is enough to get it from a stationary position to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.7 seconds, while the top speed is in excess of 349 km/h (217 mph). Now, talk about an automotive tuning company that keeps raising the bar. https://autojosh.com/brabus-800-900-baddest-saloon-cars-geneva-motor-show-photos/

This is not intended to be a sexist article. However, the reality is that - relative to men - far more women are clueless about how their cars work, and what they need to do to maintain and keep them running smoothly. Perhaps, this accounts for why women are mostly cheated - or overcharged - by mechanics and other car technicians. At Autojosh, we highlight some skills that every female driver– and indeed, a lot of menfolk – should possess, that would one day save them from unpleasant driving experiences. How to Change a Tyre Changing tyres are inevitable. No matter how much we dread it, a day will come when we would experience a deflated car tyre – and perhaps, at a location where help will not be anywhere in sight. This is the reason why every female car driver should be equipped with the skill needed to change a deflated car tyre. How to Check Your Oil Checking the oil level is a very easy task. To do this, first locate the dipstick. Pull it out, wipe the oil off, push it back in, and then remove it once again. Then check the small indication levels to see how far the oil runs up the dipstick. See. It is that simple. How to Check Fluid Levels Besides petrol and engine oil, there are other fluids that is required by cars to remain in proper working condition. For instance, radiators need coolant; the transmission and brake need oiling, windscreen sprayers need liquid, power steering needs oiling, etc. How to Jump-Start a Car Battery For a myriad of reasons, your car battery can suddenly drain out. At such times, you would need to jump-start your car with a charged battery. If you do not have the requisite skill to achieve this – it could render you stranded. This is why it is important to know how this is done. It also helps if you keep a pair of jumper cables in your car boot. How to Check Tyre Pressure Driving around with over-inflated or under-inflated tyres is dangerous. This is why it is advised that car owners should buy a tyre-pressure gauge. A knowledge of how it is used can help in avoiding some potentially hazardous driving experience. Also, driving on good pressure helps to minimize a car’s fuel consumption. So, you see, it is a win-win situation for you. Know the Meaning of the Warning Lights There are several warning indicator lights on our car dashboards. They are not all there to make your car look pretty. They are all there for good reasons –sometimes, life-saving reasons. Take them seriously. Understand the messages each light (indicator) was designed to pass across to you. For instance, the check-engine light means that there is a malfunction in your engine. There are also a low fuel light, a fasten seatbelt light, and a light to indicate that one of your car doors is open, etc. Keep A Maintenance Log Develop a habit of keeping a record of when last a maintenance job was done on your car. This is a very important routine. To do this, keep a logbook and record the dates that a mechanic performs maintenance service on your vehicle. Another way is to tape a piece of duct-tape somewhere in the engine or under your dashboard and write the date there. Learn How to Drive in an Inclement Weather Condition There will be conditions, or terrains, that you will find yourself that would make safe driving difficult. For instance, in very harsh weather conditions, like very heavy rainfall, storms, snow, etc., it is important to have the skill needed to navigate your car through such conditions. Learn How to Drive a Manual Transmission Car Indeed, there will always be that emergency where the only available car is a manual transmission car. Sadly - you only know how to drive an automatic transmission car. At such moments, you suddenly realize the folly in you not ever taken time to learn how to drive a manual transmission car. Keep an Emergency Roadside Kit Always have in your car an emergency roadside kit. Be conversant with every item in the kit. But essentially, know how to use them. You never can tell which and when you will need them. How to Turn On Your Hazard Light Actually, this ought to be the first item on this list. However, knowing how to turn on your hazard light – or as it is more popularly referred to in Nigeria, "Double Indicator", "Double Trafficator" - is very important. When on, this the hazard light draws attention to your car. It cautions other motorists that there is something wrong with your car and that it could be potentially hazardous to them. For instance, it is used when your car break down in the middle of the road, or when you are badly parked on the side of the road such that part of your car is sticking out into the road and constitute a hazard, etc. The hazard lights are usually activated by pressing a button on the dashboard that looks like a red triangle. https://autojosh.com/10-skills-women-who-drive-cars-should-have/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove Marpol Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy

The Benin-Ore expressway is one of Nigeria’s most traveled roads. Daily, hundreds of thousands of Nigerians ply this economically crucial highway. This highway primarily connects states of the South-West to states in the South-South, South-East and the Middle belt. For decades, this stretch of road - part of the Lagos-Benin Expressway - was notorious for its atrocious condition and the neglect by successive Governments. In 2007, on account of the disgraceful condition of this Federal road, a one-time Minister of Transportation famously wept during a visit to a failed section of the road. The Minister also apologized to Nigerians for what she then described as the “inhuman and unacceptable” state of the road. Thankfully, intervention eventually surfaced. In 2014, the reconstruction of the Benin-Ore section of the Lagos-Benin Expressway was completed. See below the before and after photos of the benin-ore Expressway below. https://autojosh.com/throwback-thursday-benin-ore-road/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove Marpol Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy Seun

The FRSC is to embark on an exercise it has tagged “Operation Show Your Driving License’’. This much was made known by Hyginus Omeje, the Lagos State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). Mr. Omeje disclosed this on Saturday during an interview where he also has disclosed that 56, 767 driving licenses were yet to be collected by their owners. He said that the exercise to get motorist to show their drivers license would be carried out across all units of the command. Also, according to him, this is necessary so that that motorists will come to their office to collect their driving’ licenses. “We have no backlog of new driving licenses in Lagos State. There are 56,767 licenses yet to be collected by their owners” he said. “We have sent SMS to their owners that their licenses are ready for collection but they ignored responding to our messages,’’ the FRSC the Sector Commander said. Omeje also expressed unhappiness at the attitude of some road users who drive vehicles without valid licenses. He said that valid driver’s licenses remained the only certification required by drivers to drive on the road. According to him, the fine for a driver driving without a valid license is N10, 000 and the vehicle of such offender would be impounded. It would be done with the assumption that the driver was not licensed to drive. According to Omeje, the FRSC corps was not interested in the fines or depriving anyone the comfort of his vehicle. Instead, he advised that motorists should endeavor to do the right thing and be conscious of their safety. The Lagos Sector Commander also disclosed that between Feb. 26 and March 2, no fewer than 4, 644 licenses were collected by the applicants. https://autojosh.com/frsc-carry-operation-show-driving-license-lagos/ Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove Marpol Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy Seun
