Her name was Mercury. I named her so because, to me, she was most valuable. I loved her. Our relationship was quite the envy of many, a reference point, if you will.

Being a lover of excitement and a free spirit, I would take her out on the street and we would play 'volleyball' with a large, branded balloon. People always watched with that "are they alright?" kinda look. In time, most girlfriends began to accuse the boyfriends of not loving them enough to showcase it in public like Mike and Mercury.

Funny enough, some of those ladies who rejected my love advances before, began to tell me they wanted me. They didn't care if they became side chicks. You know, I actually wondered why women behaved that way. But I will discuss it another time.

Mercury was a very bright student. She led her class. Yet she was always with me if she wasn't in school. Although she had her flat, she hardly ever lived there. We were that close.

There was, however, a sore spot. Whenever she went to her flat, she came back with stories of her block mates hating on me. According to her, they always told her I was a player. Some of them hated me with such passion, they almost had her dancing to their tune.

I endured as much of the complaints as I could, but one day, I cracked. I told Mercury that I needed to see a friend nearby, but I went to her own flat instead. I sent someone to call a particular friend of hers, one who professed the most hate for me. She met me outside and dragged me to a dark corner of the compound. I expected her to slap me, being that she hated me so much.

"Wow Mike. It's an honour to have you ask for me, am I safe?"

She sounded almost happy that I came. I knew that my mission was going to be easy. She was still holding onto my hand, four minutes after the handshake. I told her I would like to take her out the next day. I had issues to discuss with her. She accepted.

NEXT DAY
We went to Ogohi Hotel, by then, the best hangout in town. Smirnoff Ice or Gordon Sparks was the vogue then. She drank up four bottles in a jiffy. She also had pepper soup, Bush meat, I think. Then we headed home. Mercury was in her own flat today. Lots of assignments, she said.

As soon as we got to my room, this lady, Mercury's friend who 'hated' me so much, grabbed me and started kissing like a nun determined not to return to Heaven a Virgin. She was very aggressive. I calmed her down. Took it slow. Removed her clothes. Kissed every part of her. Every part, including the part you are thinking of right now. Yes. I did.

When suddenly I got up and told her I was going to be right back, she must have thought I was going to get a condom. She was very wet and ready for the main act.

I drove fast to Mercury's flat and demanded she followed me home, I had a surprise for her. She was so excited, she must have been expecting a ring or chocolates. Nothing gets a woman high like those two things. But today, it was going to be neither.

Moments later, in front of my gate, Mercury jumped out of the car with very happy, sprightly steps, and headed towards the house. I told her to go ahead, I needed to get something from the car.

I counted the seconds. 25 seconds. That's when it happened. First a loud, piercing scream. Then "O my God!".
I smiled as I walked into the house. I stood just outside the bedroom door. I heard the shock in my woman's voice.
"What are you doing here? I thought you said he was not good enough for me?"

Then I heard the most ridiculous reply in human history, ever.

Actually, the problem with most of us is that we do not learn different stream of income to augment what we have.

In the current world one needs more than one source of income to sustain himself.

Aside that job, what other sources do you have that fetch you money? What other skills are available to you?

I have never worked for anyone since leaving NYSC and I am grateful to God for what I can do. It's all about what can bring you money added to what you have.

Right now, I have an office set up already where I shall be running some other skill based consulting training, along side selling for physical products.

Like HungerBad said, if you keep the same type of friends you currently have, you will keep having same problem of financial instability. U need to move with guys who talk about money making, business etc. Anything for the hustle.

Before you consider taking this bold route of death, I would like you to consider one more option at surviving;

The Benevolence/Help Unit of Churches
This is a Unit in Church that gives out food stuffs to people who need it and would come forward for it.

There has been a lot of subtle campaign going on against what is good and right and The Church has not been left out.
Dearest, the Church is not as bad as it's been made out to be. Yes, we hear stories, see happenings and know one or two very good examples of what a Church should not be but there are very VERY many good Churches all over Nigeria.

If you have not eaten and have got no hope of getting food or money, stroll into a good Church and ask to see a "A Pastor",

(By good Church, I mean atleast the POPULAR ones we know. Daystar Christian Centre, House On The Rock, etc etc
Also, there are so many non denominational gatherings whose speciality is to rally round you until you can stand again. I can't remember names but hopefully someone will mention one.
If any of the Churches around you do not have the Unit, the Pastors know what to do.
Let the Pastor know that you are hungry and need to eat!

If you able to go on a Sunday, then that would be really cool because most Help/Benevolence unit work on Sundays before or after Services.

Speak to one of the workers of the unit there in confidence if you're too shy or "ashamed". They will understand because that's what they do.

Most of this Unit will ask for your Cell leaders because there is a checkmate to ensure that real members of the Church who are in real need do not get left out of available resources.

Here, I can tell you if you are open and sincere and persistent, you will be attended to.

Alternatively, join the Home Cell Unit of your Church or a good Church in your area.
The Cell Leaders, even if they do not have "something" in the house at the moment, will pull every string to ensure you're okay.
