I get it. It's the insanity of repeated parts replacing and/or complete nigga-rig of cars that get me. I'm all for used parts and cheap labor but some things you hear mechanics tell people and they swallow it just...

And if they tell you 1 and it fails and they tell you 2 and it fails, do you really need to go to 8 before you decide it's too much?? All in the name of trying to save money when you could have spent a fraction of the cost at a reputable place to tell you what is wrong then take it elsewhere to get fixed.

I have a honda civic, the car stop anytime am on hold up or slow down, my mechanic check and find out that the EGR valve is always open and he suggest that we should shut the egr valve permanently. Pls am asking it is a good idea n what will be the effect on the engine?

A stuck open EGR valve can truly cause such problems since there would be unmetered exhaust gases within the cylinder. However how did he reach this conclusion?
If it is the EGR valve, rather than block it have you considered replacing it?
Though the EGR system is basically for emission purpose and in this partof the world we dont really care much about however kindly consider the best option before proceeding and ensure the job is done properly.
I would advice a replacement rather than blocking it sha. Bt thr choice is yours.

I have an Hyundai Elantra 2008. The acceleration is not proportional to its speed. When you accelerate, the car drags and never goes above 80km/h. At a point you'd hear a cranking sound from the engine.
Yes there's enough oil as it was serviced about 3weeks ago. Please what is the issue with it. Help a bro.

Many things could cause poor engine performance
1. Clogged/dirty air filter
2. Bad spark plugs
3. Faulty MAF
4. Weak fuel pump
5. Clogged/damaged catalytic converter
6. Weak engine (low cylinder compression)
7. Transmission problem...etc etc


Very very many things boss.
Its difficult to tell you exactly what is wrong. My suggestion would be for you to contact any technician here or around you to help diagnose the issue and fix it the right way...

You might not be getting anything wrong. However just to be sure kindly find a more high end scan tool and try scan the modules again... Normally this should be able to scan it tho bt personally i dnt trust thes scanners.

What kind of scan tool did you make use of?
Did you scan the transmission or was it every module you could not access?

Anyways most peeps dnt know how to fix that oil leak this is why its difficult suggesting a fix cuz if he meets a quack/cut neck Mechanic dey will just chop his head and build house on top ordinary steering rack. Reason i suggested replacement with a good toks unit

I doubt if this is a scan issue. Find a competent Mechanic to help you check that vehicle sir.
Is the said vehicle auto or manual transmission?

Sincere apologies sir but I do not know how they convert a PS system to manual.
However my advice is why not consider replacing the P/S rack with a good working one probably used considering cost?
because i have seen situations where mechanics will promise you heaven on earth. In the end sir na your money dey burn nob hin own. Also consult another mechanic pls...

Restricted fuel/air supply could cause this among many other things. However consider the following;
1. Scan the engine
2. Service injectors
3. Clean throttle body too.
4. Test fuel pump pressure
5. Clean MAF sensor...

Check for vacuum leak but engine didn't stall. After the engine is warm, it stalls. I get a low alarm and a click sound from passenger side of the engine after it stalls.

Ok... Sorry at this point i can only advice you find a technician to scan and diagnose the problem especially when the engine stalls.
Carrying out a full system scan and getting errors will sure help us be able to advice you better..

Shouldnt be a big problem.
There is a sensor attached to the intake manifold runner, that reports the position of the intake runner to the computer.
3 possible faults
1. Faulty electricals
2. Stuck runner
3. Faulty sensor
4. ECU fault (most unlikely)

Check the following parts to confirm their state

THANKS. BUT TO DIAGNOSE BETTER, I THINK I HAVE TO PULL OUT THE CANISTER.

Your decision. However take note the ECM complained about the circuit. It definitely saw something it didn't like and its possible the code was set during a previous job. As I stated earlier. It would be wise to inspect/diagnose the whole EVAP system rather than just "pull out the canister". You should also consider erasing the codes, do a test drive and den rescan system to see what comes back.

My Camry 99 model, the break binds just on one leg, and I[b] have fixed it[/b] more than four times the more I fix it the more it gets worst, then the sound of the leg also changes, now as I drive it's wobbling. And if I drive on high way and apply the break the while car will be vibrating.

Kindly elaborate on this.
During thr fix did you change the brake caliper or just the brake pads?
You might need to do an overhaul on that side of your suspension system.
Kindly consider changing the following parts if found faulty
1. complete hub,
2. brake caliper,
3. Brake pads
4. Stabilizer linkages
5. Bushings etc...


However my money is on the hub and caliper...

P0105 manifold absolute pressure/Barometric pressure suit

P0120 throttle/ pedal positioning sensor switch A circuit

P0446 Evaporative emission system vent circuit

P0446 Evaporative emission system vent control circuit*

What symptoms are you experiencing on this vehicle?
Any engine performance problems?

Before you go about buying throttle Position Sensor/MAP sensor, ensure you check the wiring circuit to this sensors and also the PCM.

Also check your EVAP system. It might be compromised as this might be the reason why the computer is reporting a MAP/TPS sensor fault as it is not sure what exactly the problem is.

So pls dont throw parts at the problem. Diagnose it...

I have issues with my Passat B6 2.0 FSI. It starts and idles but stalls. Then experience hard starting. After it starts, it idles and stalls either on brake depress or while still idling. I want to clean throttle body and injectors and further suggestions are welcomed. Yet to scan.

Kindly scan first before anything. Stop chasing ghosts.
There is a possibility your vehicle stalls due to vacuum leak especially if it stalls when you depress the brake pedal. To confirm disconnect the vacuum hose connected to the brake booster and then block it. Then confirm if the engine stil stalls.

Shortage usually could be either due to;
1. leakage
2. Oil burnt in combustion chamber

However by shortage, can u explain au much the oil is short?

I doubt that i might be wrong though. What i know is The anti freeze in the coolant is basically to prevent the coolant from freezing at lower temperatures.

After the gasket was changed, oil was found in the coolant while water was found on the engine oil dipstick Also, there were signs of water in the engine combustion chamber.

The radiator cap and hoses looked OK without any signs of leak.

You obviously have an internal leak

Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius at atmospheric pressure. If you increase the pressure, the boiling point increases. A car cooling system is pressurised. There is no way it can boil at 100 degrees in that pressurised state. It only boils when the pressure is relieved like when you open the radiator cover of a hot engine.
You can use water as a coolant in tropical Africa but only distilled or demineralised water. I use demineralised water in my car. We don't get to sub zero temperatures here. So, we don't need antifreeze that is added in coolants. The antifreeze simply stops the coolant from freezing at very cold temperatures thereby preserving the integrity of the cooling system at cold temperatures.
You are discouraged from using ordinary water because it contains minerals like calcium, magnesium etc that precipitate out at high temperatures and end up fouling, depositing and blocking pathways for water passage. The effect is the reduction in heat dissipation effect of the cooling system resulting in overheating and engine damage.

So if you are living in Nigeria and can lay your hands on Distilled water or demineralised water, use it as your coolant. Nothing will happen to your car because of that and your cooling system will work well as if you are using coolant.
But, if you can't lay your hands on either of the two, you must use a coolant. Never pour in ordinary potable water into your car cooling system.

� you are so on point... However let me add the additives in coolant also help lubricate the water pump and this is very important to help the pump last long...

Find a competent Transmission pro to help you fix this problem. You cant do this yourself.

Radu, If you go through my comments again as a rebuttal to the person i quoted, i only stated the the ability and possibility to use water in coolant systems without suffering the debilitating effects of engine overheating. And i also tried to clarify the nonsense that premixed Coolant has to be used because an engine is running at a temperature of 1500 deg.C ( This temperature is within the combustion chamber and remember the water flows round the external sides of the combustion cylinder like a cooling jacket and has no direct contact with the combustion chamber, and because the cooling system is pressurized, the boiling point of water is greatly reduced{think of the operating principles of a pressure cooker}, of course with the help of applying thermodynamic principles such as coolant flow-rate, forced convection etc.). Water can serve as a coolant but should only be used in a short term e.g when checking for/ repairing leaks.

The invaluable benefits of using premixed coolants( as per manufacturer's spec ) cannot be overemphasized.

I will take distilled water over all this plenty adulterated coolants everywhere. Many of them are just colored water... No anti-freeze whatever there
