My brother, you're a technician (with a workable knowledge around multiple car systems), so it's very easy for you to keep things in perspective.

If we had qualified mechanics who can at least diagnose a fault without trial and error then every Nigerian can drive a marquee and have peace of mind. If you live in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kaduna, Kano or Lagos you'll find competent mechanics with at least a C3/C4 clone.

Between Calabar/Uyo there are only three C3/c4 clones (2 in Calabar, 1 kn Uyo... they will charge you an arm and a leg for basic diagnostics and actuations/adaptations (not even programming sef).

This is a problem, you know how difficult and expensive treating a simple misfire on this new Benz engines could be (spark plugs, air hoses, ignition coils, wires, even fuel pump, clogged filters can all cause uncontrollable shaking in your cabin area). An M112's ignition coil is about 4/5k a piece, for the M272 engine we are talking about 7-9k. Fuel pumps (Autokaf and Tibao 19-25k), Fuel filters (24-28k), and once the VDO dies, you'll keep changing the above at least every year if you drive a considerable distance. Most persons use their Mercs for City Driving - mine does well over 800kms on a weekly basis.

All in all, you're right. I shouldn't have generalised that all used Mercs were ticking bombs. That statement was inconsiderate to owners of the 3 pointed star. Weyreypey kindly find a way in your heart to re-induct me into the Benz Hall of Fame

I beg to differ. He didnt say all rubbish. Read the bolded. Many ppl want to buy a Benz enjoy the luxury it offers but want to maintain it like a 1.4l yaris...

Truth is Benz parts dont come cheap. But they last. Talking specifically from point of view of new suspension parts compared to other cars.

Also in support of what you said, the C180 Kompressor offers good power and economy at the same time...

There's nothing fishy about my car. Full disclosure on everything I do, deep down you know this. I won't lie because of a couple quid on a car, I can easily upgrade on. Truth is nobody on a tight budget should have anything to do with a Benz or an Infiniti. (I have progressive experience with both, they are good cars when they work, and money pits when things break), you won't deny this.

If a person looks for recommendation on a potential car and the first yardstick he/she chooses is "cheap parts", followed by "proximity to technicians or ease of repair" and or "low fuel consumption" - I will not recommend a Benz.

However, If he isn't on a budget then we all know the route to take in reference to the phrase "The Benz or Nothing".

I don't hate Mercs, God willing I'll always own one till the day I die, just like my grand dad. Every once in a while, I drive my old boy's 07 S Class and I feel the connection he has with that car (he fixes it himself, that's pure dedication - something I'll never be able to do. He sees nothing wrong with huge repair bills because he handles the labor aspect easily and pays for parts alone, I do!

Sir, you are not referring to Mercs built over the past 15-20 years (apart from the S CLASS) by chance are you? There are only a handful vehicles in the same price range that can hold their own against an S Class, as for the other classes Mercedes no send at all, weyreypey knows this and if he's in a good mood - he'll confirm. The bottom-line is Benz owners rarely share their woes.

In the end tho. Every machine requires maintenance. If u maintain am wella, u go enjoy am.
Also, its important to have capable technicians/mechanics maintaining your car if not, person just turn him car to ticking time bomb

I own an E Class. And I'm advising you to stay clear, follow Heavenl.yBang's advise if you must persist in this quest of yours. A used Benz whether toks or naija used is a ticking bomb.

Though this statement might have been as a result of your personal experience however I disagree.
As a technician, i have seen many many toks and used Benz being used for years without issues. Infact they are very reliable if well maintained.
A badly used benz maybe but to say a benz is a ticking time bomb? Haba manah

Well... You will need to get your vehicle diagnosed to pin point the cause of this excessively high fuel consumption.
Focus on the O2 sensor inputs, ECT input, check for vacuum leaks, etc...

I bought a tokubo Toyota Camry 2003 about 4 months ago, but I notice that the fuel consumptions seems to be on the high side.
I use about 13liters over 60km drive daily. Mixed of city and highway driving.
Attach is the history of my fuel usage. Found this application online and use it to monitor my fuel usage.
Please is this normal.
The consumption is measured in Kilometer/ litre.
From what I checked online (28mpg- 35mpg) the consumption shouldnt be DAT high.
Please what could b the problem

What i'll advice is this.
1. Write down your odometer just before refill.
2. Refill your tank to full tank.
3. drive the vehicle normally till that low fuel light comes on.
4. Note your odometer
5. Refill again
6. Drive till light comes on.
7. Note your odometer reading.



So atleast we'll have 2 test results to work with.
That way we can get an idea of your mpg. Though not actual but close to it.

There is also anoda method i came across. Lemme see if i'll see it

Chief.... The fuel filter wouldn't cause higher fuel consumption. Rather it will cause a restriction to fuel supply.
Your issue resides somewhere else.
Leaky exhaust, bad O2 sensors, faulty injectors, non-recommended fuel pump (pumping at higher pressure than required), faulty fuel regulator if there is one, vacuum leak, faulty MAF/MAP sensor etc. So many things can cause this high fuel consumption. Pls get in touch with a competent tech to help diagnose this issue sir...

Good morning. My VSC, Brake, trac off, ABS light came on during the weekend and the tyre pressure light keeps on flashing. I explained to my mech that my brake gets very hot and he said its the caliper, yesterday he fixed it and the lights disappeared except for vsc and trac off. This morning, the lights came back on. Also he removed my radiator to fix a leak and removed battery to clean the terminal, now check engine light is on. Although the check rngine light wasn't on previously. What could be the cause please?

Morning sir. Pls kindly confirm if the brakes dont get hot any longer.
Also for the ABS, TRAC AND VSC, IF THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN FIXED, YOU MIGHT HAVE TO ERASE USING A SCAN TOOL. THING IS, ALL THIS SYSTEMS WORK TOGETHER.IF THERE IS A FAULT IN ONE, IT WILL TRIGGER THE OTHER LIGHTS. FOR EXAMPLE A FAULTY WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WILL CAUSE ALL THOSE LIGHTS TO COME ON EVEN EVAP LEAK will trigger those lights.
So a simple scan will let you know if there is a fault code stored, or if the issue has been fixed. In that case you'll just clear the code.
For the check engine light, scan the engine management system. The fault code stored will tell you what you need to fix.

Goodevening Guru's and enthusiasts...so I just bought a c300 2015 benz some 3-4 weeks ago...serviced it with Mobil 1 and only a couple of days back "check oil at next refuel" pops up after about 10-20minutes drive...I click ok and it disappears only to reappear on the next drive.

Chief like Billiebaba talk. Abeg scan that car. Nob 5hose cheap. Scanners o. Find a competent tech that can help you scan all the systems on that vehicle.
Also there shld be a way to check the oil level. Confirm the oil is properly guaged.

my Honda DC gear stick flickers on the dashboard when i try changing gears, the transmission is perfect, gears change normally when in motion but when i try putting the gear in park, it doesnt enter park until i tap the gear stick several times. When i put into drive, it enters into drive but the 'D' light wouldn't turn on until i tap the stick. i think it has to do with something under the gear stick. Honda experts, pls what do i need to do?

Check your shift stick, the park neutral switch, and connectors to the gear system. Something is failing. I have a feeling its a switch or its wiring.

OP I just stumble to this page and very happy to discover your great insight and help you render in this forum. Kudos to you. My Mazda 626 (2000) is having this issue of not steaming normal when you start the car.
Immediately you start the car and remove your leg from the throttle, it will just go off.
What may be the cause?

Morning boss. Very sorry for late reply.
Kindly check your Temperature sensor. Sometimes they fail and the ecu is unable to determine d state of d Engine if its cold or hot. Also check its wiring too.
Also check your idle air control system. It might be stuck.
If possible pls scan the vehicle. Certain sensors might have failed which might be causing this poor engine performance at cold start up.

Bro sorry about this unfortunate event. First point of call is physical inspection. Do you see anything out of place?
When accelerating do the tyres roll freely or does it feel like the parking brake is holding the tyres down?
Also the check engine light is a good indication that there is a stored fault in your engine computer. This might reveal the cause for your faulty engine performance.
Pls do find a competent automotive technician to scan all the systems in the vehicle. This will help with identifying the problem....

As regards, pls be careful how you go through flood. If its possible to avoid it by taking a longer route pls do. internal combustion engines do not like flood. If water gets into areas its not supposed to get to, it wil cause a huge damage and cost of fixing will be high. Esp parts that are located in the lower part of the vehicle like starter motor, compressor, PS pump (in some vehicles), excess water or dirt can reduce the performance of your radiator, condenser and the fans.

Faulty suspension parts
Bad wheel or tyre...
Weak fuel pump, clogged fuel filter or restricted fuel supply line.... Alot of things can cause this jerking sir.
Pls Kindly provide more precise info on this jerk to give better response.

Tho cancel out misfire. Does your check engine flash during this jerking?

Update, I drove the car today but didn't throttle hard and no white smoke uphill. I easied off the throttle going uphill and the gears changed easily without any smoke but didn't get the required acceleration.

Ok... There are so many things that can cause this. However this feels to me like a case of low power deliver from the engine. My suggestion is this.
Start with the easiest things. If u haven't done this before;
1. Clean your air filter. Change if badly clogged.
2. Clean your fuel injectors. Change them if tested and found to be failing.
3. Spark plugs. Clean them if dirty. Change them if badly worn. But pls take note of their physical appearance. It will point to what is happening in the cylinder.

If this is done and symptoms still persist... Them you need to consult your doctor

White smoke that occurs at any Engine speed is indication engine oil seeping into combustion chamber , go for further diagnosis (leak down or compression test) to get nail the root of the issue .

This is an issue of white smoke at low RPM. And customer says it only occurs when he climbs a hill. Not white smoke at any RPM.

Hello, have white smoke from exhaust when climbing a hill but disappears immediately the car is on flat surface. Every tech spoken to had concluded top cylinder but I have not oil in water or water in oil. Coolant is not drained nor oil short. What else can trigger white smoke. Noticed it happens when am a lower gears.

If we'll focus on white smoke alone, the 2 causes of white smoke is coolant leak into the cylinder and secondly excess fuel flooding the cylinder.
Personally i think this might be an issue of your engine running rich during that short period. For confirmation, pls get in touch with a competent technician to diagnose the issue while performing a test drive. Let him look at the following PIDs:
MAP, MAF, STFT, LTFT, TPS AND both O2 sensor readings.
You need to replicate that scenario and watch what information the engine computer is receiving that makes it flood the engine during that period.
Pls kindly check your air filter. Ensure its not clogged or dirty
and starving the engine from receiving enough air. Also check your MAF or MAP to be sure they are working properly. If i find any more relevant info i would share...

Any error codes stored in memory?
If its electrical there shld be a code stored. A faulty crank position sensor could cause d absence of spark in your plugs

Kindly check your steering system. Something my not be working properly.
Could also be those plastics trims not fitted properly. Since i dont know what kind of sound. I can't say what it is. So pls find a competent auto tech to trace dt noise.

Good evening all, I changed the complete shaft of my Honda DC. During test driving I noticed it was jerking while changing gears and it will jerk before getting into drive or reverse. 
I kept on changing gears while static and little by little the issue disappeared. 
Was the transmission system trying to calibrate itself with d new shaft? Is it normal for it to do that after changing a complete drive shaft?

Good thing is issue has disappeared. However we cant say if its just for now. Pls pay special attention to how your car drives whenever you use it.
In my little experience, thats not normal. There shouldn't be any form of jerking for whatever reason. Except if the drive shaft wasn't fixed correctly before and luckily during driving it has corrected itself.
Also while U carried out this repair, did U remove the battery terminals, or connect a scan tool?
It is very possible your gear was performing a relearn during that process. But nit having full info makes it difficult to point out what exactly was happening.
