The stripped bolts issue was a manufacturing defect that affected some early production 1AZ and 2AZ engines. It has nothing to do with the kind of coolant used

Secondly , water can be used in a vehicle cooling system , but it has to be distilled water and the climate must not be temperate. This is because the cooling system is pressurized. So the engine operating temperature and water correlation does not hold water (pun intended) . there are a lot of design considerations and parameters involved ( coolant flow rate , thermal conductivity of engine block/ cylinder head, rate of heat dissipation due to forced convection etc)

The coolant we use( recommended by the vehicle manufacturer BTW) is simply chemicals and compounds added to distilled water that helps in improving the specific heat capacity and permit a much wider range of operating temperatures ( winter starting to prevent the coolant from freezing and expanding in the engine block that can cause catastrophic damage, for example. )

Exactly... Considering the radiator cap raises the pressure of the water, the water in a properly functioning cooling system will never boil as is boiling point would have been raised due to the pressure build up.
OP kindly start with the simplest things
1. Find a tech that knows his stuff.
2. Pressurize the system. Check for leaks or a drop in pressure.
3. Inspect radiator cap.
4. Inspect hoses while vehicle idles at operating temperature.
5. Check your gear oil and engine oil to be sure water is not leaking into the engine ir transmission.


Atleast start with these first

WE had the mechanics look at the threads and they were OK. The gasket was changed again and the issues still persisted.

Any other ideas will be greatly appreciated

before going through all this stress did you atleast perform a cooling system pressure test?

I opened the hood of my corolla 2010 car today and found out that the radiator coolant in the reservoir is empty. What brand of coolant should I use and do I just top up the coolant of do I need to totally flush and replace it.

before refill pls confirm you dont have a leak in your cooling system. i am suspecting you probably have a leak. your coolant isn't supposed to just dry like that. do a pressure test and see...

I always give him my car to go work on. I don't understand this very one. Is it possible a gearbox will get bad without prior signs? No noise, no gear changing problems, no burning smell, no sign at all. This is the first time I'm having this gearbox issue, but I've seen people tell their tales na. Somebody please tell me my kazeem is lying. I checked this gearbox oil on Saturday before I started the car to warm it and i parked it back, there was oil. Today when he came to go and change my spark plugs, My Car won't move when u put it on gear, both drive and reverse. There's no oil underneath my car either. He said my gearbox failed and I need a new one. I thought the gearbox will show signs before going bad. I'm so confused here. My car is Avalon 02.

Sorry to say but we can't tell you your mechanic is lying. You were not there, we were not there. All we have now is your own side of the story. It wld have been great if you were there. I perceive you trusted the mechanic to go work on your car. Bt now this unfortunate situation.
Regardless As it stands you need to find a solution.
1. Get another mechanic who is competent. Refill the gear with appropriate oil. You might be lucky the gear is still good. He probably just wanted to rip U off with a quick one, or he might be saying the truth. We dnt know.
2. Even if the trans failed, there should still be oil in it. Seeing there is no oil and no trace of any leakage, then there is something very fishy.
3. If you are sure there was oil, lock him up for a few days until he pays for that transmission. he needs to learn a lesson Many mechanics out there live in lying. They dont fix shit. However if u're not sure, you need to consider your options.

I would advice U atleast just do a pressure test on your cooling system. Atleast find out if its an internal or external leak.

First thing I’d advise you to look at is your plug and nozzles... do you have shooting sounds when revving the engine... then also check the vacuum hose routing and airflow..the valves is a last resort and changing it or grinding it would mean dropping your top cylinder.... was any work done on the car before that would involved them messing with the timing... they may have not tensioned the timing belt or chain and it skipped bending your valves

I appreciate the line of your thoughts. Faulty Plugs & injectors and also vacuum leaks can cause misfires and affect engine performance. However we need to be careful with thekind if direction we give so he wont waste money throwing parts at the vehicle. He need to diagnose this issue. Esp the cause of the white smoke. A jumped timing can also have such symptoms... So that is where scanning also comes into play

I can see your Check engine light on. That shoul give us a direction on what the ECU has seen and therefore turned off the Traction Control.
Be rest assred this is not a difficult issue. So dont stat throwing parts at the car.

From the symptoms you have mentioned, white smoke is caused by either coolant leak into d combustion chamber or excess fuel being sprayed into.
Do you have any coolant leak issues?
Do you smell fuel from the exhaust?
Also kindly provide details of previous repairs carried out especially recently.
Also scan lets see what codes are stored in the ECU.

Initially the mechanic thought it was the fuel pump so I changed the pump still no solution!

I have a challenge, my brother’s car (Toyota Camry 2007) has an engine problem and the mechanics have been unable to fix it. Water always disappears from the radiator without us knowing where the water goes. Two weeks ago, water droplets were noticed on the engine oil dipstick. The mechanics that looked at it claimed it was the head gasket and my brother paid for the gasket to be changed but unfortunately the problem became worse because not only was there still water on the engine oil dipstick, engine oil was also found to be floating in the radiator.

I decided to bring this issue to the gurus in the house for possible diagnosis and solution. Any suggestion(s) would be welcomed.

i am in support of Gazzuzz and Radautoworks.
in addition to fixing the head gasket PROPERLY pls check the rest of your cooling system. considering all the issues that has happened, some parts in the cooling system might need to be changed.

please, i am having similar issue with my corolla 2006, bought it earlier this year (9ja use). it vibrates (left front tire side) at times after been driving for awhile especially when in traffic. And also it seems there is something draining my battery when the car is packed for more than 2days without warming the engine.
what i normally do is to remove one of the battery head at night. It gives a little spark each time i connect it back, my electrician says it could be the car security alarm that's draining the battery.

As adviced,
1. get a competent tech to help you check that battery drain issue.
2. return your cooling fan to factory set up.
3. let the tech find the cause of the vibration.

I need your advice. I have a corolla 2005 I bought last year(Nigerian Used), I put it up for Uber when I first bought it and had to take it back after 2months after seeing the deplorable state the guy had put the car in. Lately I decided to put it back on the road for Uber again and did some fixes and changes to make it Uber standard.
I did a full suspension change, changed the whole AC unit( compressor, condenser,evaporator) then had the mounts changed cause it has been vibrating, but even after the four mounts have been changed the car still vibrates. The plugs were recently changed(I cannot ascertain this coz my brother took the car out, it developed some problems and his mechanic claimed to have changed the plugs and a coil).
The car is now in shape but the Uber driver says the vibration still persists. What could be the cause if this annoying vibration? PLEASE HELP!!!

kindly clarify what kind of vibration. is it at every RPM? or just at certain RPM? is it only when the vehicle changes gears? is it at a certain speed?
wen you rev the engine does it still vibrate?

if your desire is to use that vehicle for the long term, changing that engine for a good clean tokunbo would definitely be your best option. your current engine is weak, rigning it might work but just for short term.
get the cost of ringing and also the cost of getting toks... comapare and make your decision.
