Travel / The New Nigerian International Passport: The Truth And The Lies By AutoReportNG by AutoReportNG: 5:59pm On Jul 12, 2019
Ever since the new international passport was unveiled especially the data page which some group of people claimed to have some sect of people. AutoReportNG was able to get the new international from someone who got their from the passport office and we felt we need to set the record straight.

Base on the little we know about passport designs and implementations, we noticed that passport was designed from all the cultural and ethnic tribes of Nigeria. For example, the Benin people have the ebony artifacts, the Yorubas have the Oduduwa, the Hausas/Fulani have the herdsmen, the National Assembly, the Aso Rock in Abuja and lots more.

It will be unfair to just pick a page out of the 64-page of the international passport to make an issue out of it. The passport was designed using all the cultural traditions from the 3 ethic groups in Nigeria which are Hausa, Yoruba and Igbos.

Please see more for yourself and be the judge.

Politics / Lekki, Ikoyi Toll Gates To Go Electronic From October - Sanwo-Olu by AutoReportNG: 3:57pm On Jul 12, 2019
A cross-section of Lagos residents and motorists on Friday commended the State Government for proposing a “touch and go” electronic payment system that will allow motorists pass quickly at the toll plaza of Lekki-Ikoyi Link bridge.

The State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu had on Wednesday announced that the mode of toll collection at the bridge would completely go electronic by October this year, saying that the development was part of efforts to ensure free flow of traffic within the axis.

The Governor further declared the use of toll plazas at both Lekki-Epe Expressway and Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge free of charge on Thursday July 11 from 6:30am to 9:30 am, and in the evening from 4:30pm to 8pm, also in a bid to tackle the gridlock in the corridor.

Reacting, a resident of the axis, Mrs Bimbo Fatoki said the development was a well-appreciated one, saying the free access at the toll plazas hugely reduced travel time.

“This is a welcome development and everyone is happy; kids did not get to school late this because the road was free and I want to say that more of this development will be welcomed,” Fatoki said.

Another resident simply identified as Mr Alimi, said the development was an eloquent confirmation that the government of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu was responsible and listens to the people.

“This development is good and it shows that the government is responsible and listens to the complaints of the people. Although I welcome this, however, in my opinion, Thursday is not the best day for the survey due to the sanitation because not everyone will come out at the same time.

“I also think that the roundabout in this area should be taken out because it is also part of the problem,” he said.

On his part, Mr John Okechuwu said he was pleasantly surprised to see the toll gate free as it was usually jam packed, adding that the electronic system would make movement faster.

A truck driver, Mr Fatai Omotayo said the electronic system was the way to go, adding that he was already using an E-card; while another motorist, Mr Coker urged government to fix the bad roads and review the traffic light, especially in terms of allocating more time to green light to enhance movement.

“I have passed through several junction before getting to the toll gate and there was hold-up but I must say I am happy with the step taken by the government on the free access as well as the electronic system,” said another resident, Mr Christoper.

Other residents, who spoke, urged government to explore the possibility of an alternative route to be created, as well as ensure that all the booths at the toll plazas are functional.

Car Talk / Volkswagen Reopens Assembling Plant In Nigeria, After 20 Years by AutoReportNG: 2:25pm On Jul 12, 2019
Volkswagen Automobile Group has reopened its auto assembly factory on the Badagry Expressway, Lagos, after 20 years of suspending operations in the country.

According to the German automaker, the reopening was made possible through its partnership agreement with a private auto company, the Stallion Group for the assembly of the Volkswagen brand of vehicles in the country in line with the National Automotive Industrial Plan announced by the federal government in October 2013.

A statement by the Stallion Group, which quoted Ratz Wolfgang, leader, Volkswagen Group’s delegation from Germany, added that the plant has rolled out the first set of vehicles, which includes Passat, Jetta, CC and Amarok models from the rejuvenated plant.

“Today marks the revival of the assembly of Volkswagen vehicles in Nigeria. Volkswagen has returned to Nigeria to continue a long history that began in the 1970s,” Wolfgang said in the statement.

“We are certain that further growth is possible, which is why Volkswagen is constantly searching for new opportunities to increase its global market and sales potential, and we appreciate the fact that we are able to strengthen our business relationship with our professional partner, Stallion Group.”

Sunil Vaswani, chairman of Stallion Group, disclosed that the group acquired the moribund Volkswagen of Nigeria plant, resuscitated it and commenced the assembling of buses, trucks, pick-ups and passenger vehicles at the facility.

He said it was assembling Nissan, Hyundai, Ashok-Leyland and IVECO vehicle brands at the factory, while it had also developed a large team of skilled human resources following extensive training by specialists from the respective principals.

“This is a great moment for Stallion in partnering a world leading global brand like Volkswagen,” he said.

“We are immensely pleased to bring back the proud legacy of Nigeria’s automotive industry, the Volkswagen brand that once was indigenously produced at the same premises.

“Stallion is committed to investing and expanding its operations in the automotive value chain across multiple global brands and paving the way for Nigeria to establish itself as a regional leader in the automobile eco-system.”

He described the launch of Volkswagen vehicles as “another major catalyst for the revival of Nigeria’s automotive industry, which could lead to the development of multiple ancillary industries and component manufacturers, apart from fostering engineering skills and generating employment”.

This is what their office looks like before it went comatose

Travel / Free Lekki, Ikoyi Toll: Updates From Lekki And Ikoyi Toll Gates - Photos by AutoReportNG: 12:38pm On Jul 11, 2019
agosians received the news with mixed feelings yesterday when the governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu said that both the Lekki and Ikoyi toll gates will be free for Thursday only as from 6am to 9.30am. According to the governor who was at the Lekki toll gate on Wednesday, he said, Thursday, July 11th will be a toll-free day during the morning and evening peak hours for vehicles plying the Lekki and Admiralty toll plaza in Lekki and Ikoyi.

According to reports, the toll plaza would be left open between 6.30am -9.30am and 4.30pm -8.00pm, this is being done to study the traffic movement and also suggest ways to reduce traffic in these areas.

AutoReportNG was monitoring comments from road users base on these two gates that are Lekki and Ikoyi respectively. Like magic, base on comments so far, there seems to be no traffic. According to Ms. Chidima who posted on her twitter page, she said, I passed the Ikoyi-Lekki toll gate this morning... no traffic... no payment. Thank you Lagos State Government. You just made life easier for a mother rushing to get her child to school and making it early to work.

Also, a man named spotless has this to say, It really worked H.E. I think the toll gate also contributed to the traffic in Lekki Epe express road. cos I left the park around 7.35 and we are in Lekki toll gate @ 810 aside the traffic light hold up.

Lastly, Ms. Kehinde Adewusi has this to say, Lekki-Ikoyi link bridge is free as the government investigates the obvious. Of course, it's the damn toll gate that's causing traffic in that axis. Thanks, @jidesanwoolu, at least you have the answer to the experiment, no? @agbegidana

The question on the lips of road users is, will Lagos State Government stop the tolling on these roads? While we await the governor's decision on this, these are some of the image we managed to get across the various pages we monitored.

Politics / See The Final 3D Rendering Of All The Lagos-Ibadan Railway Terminals In 3 States by AutoReportNG: 10:11am On Jul 10, 2019
We may finally be counting down to the official commissioning of the much-awaited Lagos-Ibadan Railway. According to the latest design released by the CCECC Fuzhou Survey & Design Institute Co. Ltd which is the design arm of the CCECC responsible for designs and implementation of which AutoReportNG got an exclusive of, they did the final 3D renderings of all the 5 Railway Terminals, we are loving every bit of it. One thing that is worthy of mention is that the final renderings have some adjustments, fixings which we believed the people have complained about.

The railway project has been ongoing close to 2 years now, each day has been a giant stride with working ongoing at various sites across the 3 states. For the records, the railway will pass through 3 states which are Lagos, Ogun and Oyo State. Each state will have at least a mega rail terminal except Lagos, the terminals will be built in Ebute-Metta, Agege, Papalanto, Abeokuta and Ibadan.

According to the team, the station combines a variety of local elements: Lagos station is line side + line top type, with a total construction area of 11,000 square meters, and two 4 lines, inspired by the wings of the national bird black-crowned crane The posture of soaring echoes the deep forest of the ancient Osogbo forest. The lines and mottled patterns on the facade show the traditional textile charm of Nigeria. The Papalanto station is line-side flat with a total construction area of 1,180 square meters. Two 4 lines. With a patchwork line, it tells the daily life story with rich life, reflecting the vibrant urban form; Ibadan station is line-side flat, with a total construction area of 2,114 square meters, with two 4-line facades with beautiful and smooth lines. The combination of virtual and real design shows the modern and flowing architectural features of the traffic building, full of the fast-moving era.

In March, it was reported that 125km out of the 150km of this railway has been completed, we hope by now that all will be fixed with room for test run and adjustments.

These are the final renderings of the Lagos-Ibadan Railway terminals across the 3 states.

Car Talk / Is UNN The First Nigerian University To Produce An Electric Car? by AutoReportNG: 4:04pm On Jul 09, 2019
Earlier today, AutoReportNG published some exclusive photos of the UNN's electric car. The car which was applauded by the Director-General of National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) was quoted saying, “The council is happy that UNN is the first to prepare a paper design and produced electrical car that has been unveiled and test-run today in the university.

“We urge other universities and higher institutions in the country to emulate innovation and technology spirit of UNN.”

While this is commendable and we salute the excellent spirits in these students that have toiled day and night to make this a reality, however, we felt the DG of NADDC may not be totally correct that UNN is the first institution to produce an electric car with the following reasons and pictures to back up our claims.

1. Convenant University Electric Car/Automobile

According to the newsletter of Covenant University Dated Oct 6th, 2014, it was reported that CU Invents Electric Automobiles. In a post giving a detailed explanation on how this was made, the university explained that two saloon cars (with and without Air-condition) and a tri-cycle were some of the research products developed and exhibited by the University as part of events marking the Chancellor, Dr. David Oyedepo’s 60th birthday recently.

The research work sponsored by the University was supervised by the leader of the team who is also the Head of Department of Chemical Engineering, Professor James Omoleye.

The greatest advantage the CU IDEA has over any other electric car developed is the use of both electric and fuel power systems, which increases its distance coverage by 350%. “That is, if other cars can cover a distance of 50 kilometres before the batteries require charging, CU IDEA is able to cover three and a half (200 kilometres) before it will require charging”, Professor Omoleye explained.

The beauty of this invention, according to him, is that the cars can run on both systems simultaneously which gave them the name Dual Engine. Another advantage of the products is that they are able to eliminate atmospheric emission, which is a concern all over the world.

The research work, according to Professor Omoleye, started in 2009, when Covenant University received a research grant from the David Oyedepo Foundation. “Within one year, the researchers were able to design and assemble the dual engine and replace the fuel combustion engine from imported cars. We did the same thing for saloon cars and a tri-cycle, we also introduced Air-condition and it was a success”, he explained.

The dual-engine, according to Professor Omoleye, is flexible. It can adapt easily to any renewable energy. “The dual engine is not limited to battery and fuel alone. It uses battery and fuel for now because petroleum is still our business in Nigeria. But we know very soon, there is going to be a breakthrough in other renewable energy sources.

“So, the dual engine we have designed has the ability to replace the fuel proportion section with the fuel cell. In that case, it would be battery and fuel cell. It is also flexible that, if tomorrow the Solar Energy becomes efficient; our system can also incorporate battery and Solar Engine to do the same thing. In fact, any renewable energy system that comes up will be good enough for our system”, he disclosed.

AutoReportNG learnt that these cars are used as a shuttle car at Covenant University. The issue why CU works are not online we learnt is because mobile phones are banned on campus, the students can't do much to showcase most of their innovations reason we have limited pictures on this.

While some argue that Covenant Univerisity electric car is just a modification of a car and not built from the start, here are what the students of the University of Lagos did recently. According to the University of Lagos newsletter, a group of Mechanical Engineering students from the University of Lagos built an electric-powered car from scratch, using locally sourced materials.

The project, which began in 2014, was initiated by two engineering graduates (then undergrads), Olukoya Olusanya and Maduka Smart, who later enlisted the help of other mechanical engineering students. The result of the collaboration was a zero-emission electric-powered prototype vehicle called dubbed the DOVE P1.

Car Talk / Photos of The UNN's First Electric Car In Nigeria by AutoReportNG: 1:03pm On Jul 09, 2019
Earlier this week, the Director-General of National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) commended the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) for being the first institution to produce an electric car in the country, according to him, he said, “NADDC on Feb. 6, invited UNN, University of Lagos, Usman Dan Fodio University and Metrological Institute and urged them to prepare a paper design on how to produce an electric car in the country.

“The council is happy that UNN is the first to prepare a paper design and produced electrical car that has been unveiled and test-run today in the university.

“We urge other universities and higher institutions in the country to emulate innovation and technology spirit of UNN.”

Aliyu made the commendation in Nsukka on Monday during the unveiling of a five-seater Electric Car, named ‘Lion Ozumba 551′, produced by the Faculty of Engineering in the university.

While many applauded the gesture for this feat, many are asking, where are the pictures and how sure are we that they really produce any car of such magnitude.

AutoReportNG did a background check and we got some exclusives for you, while we are yet to have a total overview of this car, we applaud the students and the management for taking the right direction while we await on UNILAG and others for their own version.

slap1:
Six meter high is dangerously low. Whatever is worth doing is worth doing well.

Six meter I think is still high enough... Have you watched the video on how the wall was made?

Vainglory:
Op, please the Chinese started building the great wall 700 years before Jesus Christ was born. It was built for protection against invaders and not for tourism as you stated. Nice piece though.

Well said but it is now the centre of a tourist attraction now... You can't go to China without visiting that place though the first objective was protection but it has turned to a tourist attraction
