olamie: Hello everyone, thanks for the contribution. I thought I should share the outcome -
VO: How long did you stay the last time? Me: 176 Days VO: Why? Me: I started bleeding right after I got to the US. I had my baby taken out prematurely to save my life. The doctor said I could not fly back to Nigeria and a written note was given to me to that effect. VO: Can I see that? I handed over the report VO: How did you pay your bills? Me: I sourced for a private insurance following the incident and it got approved. I bought the Platinum Plan, which costs about $500 per month. VO: Did you pay the insurance premiums out of pocket? Me: Yes I did VO: Can I see the premium receipts and itemized bill? I handed that as well. VO: Has anyone filed for you? Me: Yes VO: Who did? Me: My Sister VO: Do you intend to have a baby this time? Me: No I don’t That was how he handed a white paper to me and told me to pick up my passport in 3 working days o.
Isn’t God just wonderful? That was how I packed my burden of proof back. Apparently, if you have a guarantor in the US, a Private insurance can be approved. To everyone who contributed, thank you and I wish you good luck in your endeavor. Kaiiiii. You see. God is not man. And man is not God. The bottom line is we are not VO's on this thread, we only talk base on experience. Where is that mister that said you should forget about US. Come and recieve your shame o |

jericho2006: As for documents, make sure you have: *all correspondence with the hospital and doctors *all the billing they gave you, including the breakdown of services and charges *copies of the flight tickets you purchased and the boarding passes for the airplane *receipts from the hotel you stayed in and if you rented a car *a notarized letter from your pastor saying that are a lady of honor and strong faith
Collect all these and organize them neatly in a binder. Then go to trash heap and throw them all away, because you are never going to get a visa ever again. What is this??. Its not a must to comment now |

justwise: I don't believe that the American embassy is targeting Nigerians regarding this birthing issue, we all know what the problem is here though some are playing a blinder.
How many people here have gone for an interview, declare child birth, present burden of proof, VO was convinced and issued a visa then you traveled , gave birth and paid exactly or above that amount you presented to VO during your interview and was unable to renew that visa?
I have lost count of how many times people come here to ask for cheap hospital or birthing centre after getting a visa, if you convinced the VO that you planned to spend $10-15K and got the visa but you decided to go for cheap and cheerful option then don't expect to get that visa renewed. I dont agree with this. A lot of people here secured medical visa using correspondence from hospitals like oakbend or even sone cheaper or slightly higher options all below 10k snd their visa were approved. Now they find it hard renewing those visas. Because we are nigerians doesnt mean everything has to be our fault |

I dont know how true this claim of getting discount back from govt is but i dont believe its applicable to all the hospitals. The eligibility officer in the hospitalr i had my baby said they pegged their self pay price at the rate it was for competitive purpose. This was just on one of our chats while i was there. Besides, if you cant afford their self pay pacakge, they give you the optuon to use medicaid or apply for some low income programmes the state has for low income earners. Infact you will need to show evidence of what you earn before you can qualify for this program. |
Travel › Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by aye88: 9:15pm On Mar 17, 2019 |
Omosholape80: They actually have a way of getting the discounted rate back from the government. My friend who works in the hospital confirmed this to me. Guess that's why they are more particular about the discount and the honest ones who won't probably have very high price even for self paid. Is this applicable to all hospitals? I hope we know this discount is not applicable to Nigerians but all self pay patients. I know of two white ladies, one british, the other chinese who had their baby in the US and they were billed the same amount i was billed because they are paying cash. |
Travel › Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by aye88: 8:46pm On Mar 15, 2019 |
peacenigeria: Discount is an excuse being used by the US Embassy. Discounts are not govt subsidized and are available to all non-insured self paying patient whether they are local or international. Thank you o. The bottom line is they are trying to clap back on birth tourism. Reduce it to the barerest minimum and would only grant to those who will pay heavily for it. |
Travel › Re: Give Birth In USA: Cost And Procedures Part 6 by aye88: 7:01pm On Mar 15, 2019 |
drafrican: What i can deduce is 1) have a fat bank account 2) take no discount or payment adjustment 3)make sure your bill is an average of what is quoted for an insured patient Hope dey know 10,000 dollar bill in 2014 was 1.55m and is now 3.6m
There is a new one i heard VO asked “madam do you consent to a pregnancy test” its officially “hot” Lets be on d lookout for those who get pregnant 2 days before the interview Lol. But to be fair, most of us dont even know theres a discount or adjustment till you see the itemized bill. You get and hospital and you ask them for price. They tell you they have an OB package for self pay patients. They give you the bill and you pay. Even give a zero balance letter. Is was until we started asking for itemized bill that we got to know there were adjustments. Rather than refuse visas, they should rather put a warning for people not to accept hospitals below a certain rate. |

rcspy: 1 month ago, we had our beautiful daughter in Toronto, Canada. We give all our thanks to God Almighty and to the wonderful people on this platform who shared and continue to share free information everyday. We followed most of your recommendations and everything went well.
VISA APPLICATION We had our first baby in the US but decided to try Canada this time. I applied for a tourist visa while I was already pregnant because I actually planned to go as a tourist. My husband insisted that it was necessary to use the visa for the actual purpose for which we applied for it which was tourism.
Our application was online — we provided the usual documents and under 3 weeks, I was called to drop-off my passport.
For the purpose of tourism, I did go for 1 week in September 2018. Because I was pregnant, they thought I was coming for childbirth, I had to clarify that I had come for tourism only.
I went again in November 2018, this time, it was for the purpose of childbirth.
POINT OF ENTRY As soon as I mentioned to the officer that I was coming for the purpose of childbirth, they asked me to move to another room. I queued briefly before being interviewed. The interviewer was mean, and unkind, despite my efforts to be as honest as possible. When I told her I was coming for childbirth, she said: “This is exactly what Donald Trump is trying to stop in America and when we have elections next year, our new government will also stop this”. I showed her evidence of my payment for my accommodation and hospital. Her main problem is that I applied as a tourist and did not disclose I was pregnant. I replied that I had already come as a tourist in September.
She asked me about my ties to Nigeria and I mentioned that my husband and my employment are in Nigeria.
After about an hour’s wait, she asked me to come forward and said “i’m letting you in on the condition that you leave on the EXACT DATE on your return ticket and also on the condition that this is the first and last baby you have in Canada.” She stapled a slip into my passport.
ACCOMMODATION/TRANSPORTATION My sister-in-law lives in Toronto and was happy to take me around. Unfortunately, her place was too small so when my mum came, we moved into an Airbnb. My experience with Airbnb is that it is expensive and while some hosts are good, many of them are not really honest. If you have good family/friends with enough room, please stay with them, its better.
I bought a SIM card from Chatr Mobile. You can see their data and voice plans here: https://www.chatrwireless.com/web/chatr.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=PlanBrowse It is advisable you get one when you arrive because you will need to make calls for appointments and probably call Uber etc. Their plans are very expensive, unlike Nigeria where we pay N1000 for 1GB; To get 1GB for 1 month, you have to pay about N10,000 but it comes with unlimited calls within Canada. Please click the link for further details. Best to walk into a store because the website does not accept Non-Canadian cards.
DELIVERY Thanks to this platform, we found Humber River Hospital in Toronto. They charge CAD2680 for mummy + CAD825 for baby for 24 hours/1 night. This fee applies for both vaginal and C-section. Once you check in, you can check out in the night of the next day. I checked in January 10 around 11am and checked out January 11, around 8pm.
There is only wifi on the ground floor so having a SIM card and data on your phone comes in handy at this point
We paid cash a month before baby came. You can also pay with your card but we preferred cash. We also paid CAD800 for the anaesthesia because I had a c-section. He had originally charged CAD1200 but I negotiated with him. I also paid cash and he mailed me a receipt. His name is Dr. Quint, and he is very good. Unfortunately, you can’t choose your own anaesthesist; it just depends on who’s on call on that day.
Same for pediatrician, it also depends on who is on call that day. We had Dr. Sally Kenway, who I paid cash to (CAD100) on the day after baby was born.
Now for the Dr., we found Dr. Ted Kosalka via this platform and chose him for 2 reasons: 1. He did not ask for a referral like all the other Drs. He simply asked that we bring my medical history/antenatal history from Nigeria. Which I got from the hospital I was doing my antenatal 2. His price was affordable —CAD2000 for both C-Section and Vaginal. But this is without appointments. I paid CAD120 for my appointment and CAD60 for every other appointment. Kindly note that Dr. Ted does not accept card payments. He will ONLY accept cash. So take enough cash from Nigeria. He will also accept USD if you can get a reliable conversion rate to show him. I went at 28 weeks but saw Dr. Ted for the first time at 31 weeks. He said a lot of Nigerians call him.
5 days after baby, we went to see a pediatrician for her first wellness check. His name is Dr. Joseph Porepa. We paid $100. We were informed that subsequent checks are not really necessary if baby is healthy and well, but its your prerogative. We will commence her vaccinations in Nigeria because she has to take BCG first.
BIRTH CERTIFICATE & PASSPORT APPLICATION On the day we checked out from the hospital, they provided all the information we need for the birth certificate application. The best place to do it is online and then they ship it to you once its ready. One common mistake people make and we also made is to forget to register the birth. Once you apply for the birth certificate, the confirmation page will prompt you to register the birth immediately. Please do both. It didn’t take take long (about 2 weeks tops). You can also phone this number if you need help: +14163258305
It costs CAD25.
Passport Application: The fastest way to do this is in the nearest Passport Canada Office. It’s faster and they tell you if you made any mistakes. Simply print the form and fill it. This is the link to download the form: https://www.canada.ca/content/dam/ircc/migration/ircc/english/passport/forms/pdf/pptc155.pdf
One important thing you will need is a guarantor — this person must have a Canadian passport. Click the link and see pages 3-8 (sections A-L) for ALL the information that you need including prices (CAD57 for child and additional CAD20 if you want to pick up at their office). Processing time is standard 10 business days — it is guaranteed if you do everything right.
If the father of the child is not present in Canada, do not sign his part of the form, inform them at the Passport Canada Office and they will need the father to go to the Canadian Embassy in Nigeria to give his consent.
Nigerian Passport & Visa on Arrival
We decided to do Visa on arrival this time instead of Nigerian Passport. We got someone in immigration headquarters to help with the approval for Visa on Arrival which cost 30k. its this approval you will take to the airport for the baby. If you need help with this, please send an email to rcspy14@gmail.com.
Summary of Fees Paid. Mummy CAD2680 — cash or card (we used GTB Naira Card) Baby CAD825 — cash or card (we used GTB Naira Card) Anaethesist (for C-section or those who opt for epidural) CAD800-CAD1200 (depending on who is on call) — cash only Pediatrician CAD100 (also depending on who is on call) — cash only Dr Ted Kosalka CAD2000 — cash only Dr’s appointments CAD120 for1st appointment; CAD60 for all other appointments — cash only
For more information please read this entire thread from the first day, because that’s what helped us. Thank you all so much and God bless you. Congratulations. Thanks you for a detailed feedback. Please what was the hospital experience like and Dr ted too?. |

drafrican: Good morning, My question is simple Why dont we have ratings for primary schools in Nigeria based on performance. I am searching for a school for my kids and i noticed anytime i ask people always just list the most expensive as the best.
Pls i need a school in yaba/surulere with core academic values and other things can follow am not keen on ballet and co to me they are secondary.
The names ve heard of are blooming greens, pampers, oakwood, womens association university of lagos ,redeemers, mbari mbayo
Pls dont say st saviors i cannot afford it.
I really want to know which one is really academically and morally sound
I wish loyola jesuit would tell us the schools in lagos and hiw their kids perform @ their enterance exam.
Bottom line help me pick a school. I live in surulere. I would recommend oakwood. They put so much attention to thr quality of education there. My daughter use to attend oakwood, though we later moved her to corona for no particular reason except for hubby being a corona fan. I still prefer an oakwood to corona |

Capricon2019: Good day,
Please i am new here and I will appreciate your opinion about this.I apply for trv using paper application and the purpose is conference that is sponsored by my employer . I submitted all the document from : Statement of my account funded by my employer in the narration, employment letter, payslip, tax clearance, travelling insurance, marriage certificate,my children birth certificate, they all have passport and the number was qoute in the application, invitation letter from conference team to my employer and embassy separate and all submitted. I have travelled to UK and Ethiopia as part of travelling history.my travelling itinery was included. I have also applied for trv in 2015 for visit without invitation but was denied due to insufficient documents and was advised to reapply.
My challenges is this ,the date of the conference has passed and my application is still showing being processed.it is more than 45day now,is their any chance of getting this visa?
Please what is your opinion about this because the conference is 4days and the company paid part of the conference fees before invitation was issue and company book hotel accommodation all this was included. You can still get the visa. Paper application seem to be taking longer than before this days. Since the date of thw conference has passed. You can cancel the hotel booking and the company can ask fkr a refund of the fees paid. Notwithstanding, they may still give you the visa |

Temi231: Thznk you omobendel. On my status page, it actually shows Refused not banned.
But on appeal, how do I go about that? The VO asked me an innocent questions which I feel that US didn't refuse me because I am scheduled for another interview which he asked for the date.
So I wonder where that was coming from? I don't think the misrepresentation referred to in the letter is about the 221g interview. In my own opinion, technically, you havent been refused yet until you attend the interview. That you van argue out with them |
Travel › Re: Giving Birth In Canada by aye88: 6:54pm On Mar 12, 2019 |
[quote author=Temi231 post=76593780]Hello all, I finally went for the interview today and the VO asked why I didn't state I am going for childbirth in my application that there is actually a space to write it. I told him that is the reason why I pick others for reasons. He said I am not being truthful and they noticed I was recently denied US visa. I told him, NO, but I have a rescheduling 221g appointment with them soon. He also asked my purpose of visiting Canada. I told him about tourism and giving birth. He also raised a red flag for the accommodation the agent booked for me which is a hotel suite.
Anyways, he didn't collect the passport for me, He said he would need to discuss with his superior as he felt I am not being truthful. I got to my office and I received their mail.
See below: Does this mean I can't re-apply again. I am thinking I should re-apply with my husband making him as the main applicant this time around.
Thank you for your interest in visiting Canada. After careful review of your temporary resident visa application and supporting documentation, I have determined that your application does not meet the requirements of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) and Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (IRPR). I am refusing your application on the following grounds: • I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end
So sorry about this. You should have stated childbirth or medicals ubder the subsection for others. Or simply mention it in your letter of explanation. Its just unfortunate. With the high rejection associated with mentioning childbirth, one would be tempted to just simply keep quiet. I see that canada os becoming very tough now |

Nersh: I have been a silent reader of this thread and it has been extremely helpful in guiding me as i prepare for my baby’s birth in the US. I decided to share my interview with the VO: VO: good afternoon, passport please. Why r u going to the US? Me: afternoon. To have my baby. Hands over passport VO: where else have you travelled to? Me: UK, SA, dubai, Mauritius etc VO: for holiday? Me: Not only. School, work. VO: ok. So where will you be staying in the US and do you have your doctor’s documents? ME: will be staying with an uncle in Chicago. Hands over doctor’s correspondence and budget sheet over. I had a budget of about $12k for medicals. VO: ok. Reviews docs. Looks at a list on her wall seems to be a list of procing for medicals across cities. So what do you do and how much do you earn per month. Me: tells her. VO: thank you. You have been approved for a visa and you can pick up in 3 days at VI. Also please beware of discounts when you go as this might affect your duture chances of renewing your visa.
I thank her, say i have seen that in some of my research and will do well to heed her warning.
She wishes me well with the baby and i leave. This was over in 5 minutes.
It seems this discount issue is a big deal. And intwreatingly, all the hospitals i have contacted have. Discount for self pay patients. The only one who didnt was quoting $50k.
Not sure what to do but will wait till 2 years time to worry.
Now waiting for my POE Better worry now. Stay away from discount. With that quote of 12k, you will get good hospitals in maryland without disckunts or at most 1 or 2 percent discounts. |
