queenestty:When I had my baby, the nurses took theplancenta away to dispose off. That is thepractise there. How it is been disposed, I don't know and didn't even care cos I was overwhelmed with the joy of seeing my baby. She was the only thing I was seeing at that moment. But I remembered that I was asked prior to delivery if I wanted to donate it to a cord bank and I said No |
Hello all, my baby is 8weeks old. I wanna ask if I can use shea butter on her skin. I hope it won't make her dark. Motherd who use shea butter on ur babies skin, pls hope it doesn't darken them. |
Beryl15:Did you book an appointment with the embassy or you justwalked in? Pls how did yougo about the process |
DFJ12:I didn't stay in Virginia. Stayed in Maryland but the hospital is at alexandria Virginia which is just about 20mins drive awayy from my location in maryland |
Hi all Had my baby girl 3weeks ago at Inova alexandria. Sorry my post comin late. My hands been full. So for anyone considering the Maryland, Virginia axis, this is a place to try. They give 50percent discount for self pay for 2day VD and3day stay CS. My doctors fee was 2500. Excellent service from the doctor. Hospital service was great too. I will adivice whoever wants to use this hospital to get their own peadritrician though cos it's not included in the bill and hospital peadritican is far more expensive. I'm willing to answer questions from the Maryland or Virginia mum's to be. |
@Shawbabe, you've made the most point in this argument... pls it's not a norm to travel at 36 weeks, let's do the right thing and leave the rest to God. Pregnancy is a physiology changing process, the long flight hours, the change in body clock as in time difference and jet lag... new environment for first time( and even tenth time travellers)... pls don't tempt God my people. @drafrican, enough is said already... Nigerians, all of us, our attitude to work/duty is wrong. It's a pity but it's just a Nigerian thing! The laxity is too much...Doctors, bankers, nurses, business men & women, receptionist etc... I also lost a 16 wks pregnancy in the nos 1 govt hosp in Nigeria after many years of waiting(so ask me about the pain of loosing a pregnancy after years of marriage)... You are right about our attitude to work thing. It applies to all professions and I think it's not a Nigerian syndrome alone, it's peculiar to the whole Black race. I have a hospital close to the house I stay here in Maryland which I would have considered for childbirth, but my sister whom I'm staying with said it's filled with blacks and theamount of attention I would recieve there would differ from awhite community hospital. And she was very right. She had her child in thehospital and her other child in awhite community hospital anthe d gap between the two was too. Wide. I think the black race generally don't pay attention to details, very lacadiscal towards so many things. Even in Maryland here, sometimes when u see dway some blacks behave as against the whites, you can almost spit |

For Virginia, try Inova alexandria hospital. Doctor: dr ansera |
Hello house, pls who has the delta office phone line that one can call for this cheap tickets. |
kingsdaughter:Lol. I've been observing things. Baby has not landed o. Presently in Maryland chilling till when baby comes. Thanks so much for checking. |
uchetobi:Pls which bloodwork are you referring to? Is it the ones you do before delivery or will one have to run another bloodwork during delivery or after. I'm sorry if my question sounds somehow. I just want to understand if I will have to run another bloodwork when I get to the hospital on the day of delivery or after delivery |
kairi:Yeah. Thanks so much for your advice. I've been in Maryland for awhile now and done extensive research. It's pretty expensive here and they hardly give discounts. The hospital I settled for is in Virginia. It's 28mins drive frm where I stay in Maryland which is even closer than some hospitals within Maryland where u can drive close to 1hr. The hospital I'm choose gives a 46percent discount for those who don't have insurance or who are self paying patients. The total hospital bill for virginal is 4358 after deducting the 46percent. It covers for two days stay at the hospital. It doesn't cover for anaestlogist, or doctors fee o. They seem to be the only one that is straight forward with their bill. |
Thanks @ Aye88 for your useful and vital information. I have been a silent follower of this forum for a long time now. I would not ming having my baby in Maryland as well beacause that is where l have a relative. So it would be I have replied ur mail |
bbaby84:I have replied you |
lalavita:Lol. Funny enough I was the one who shared the spreadsheet. I didn't decidde on any of the hospitals on the spreadsheet cos I felt they were still abit on the high side but I shared it cos I felt someone could still find it useful. So when I got to Maryland I decided to doanother research before settling. I'm settling for the Inova alexandria. Had the doctors appointment today and all that was on my mind was that God shld punish our leaders for not giving us a good healthcare. Lool. The doctor was so patient and detailed |
Sorry I meant 70percent discount gift card off your lab test. That's for the waldof women's care |
Hello all, Pls I've caterrah and it's really making me uncomfortable. Cants breath, can't sleep at night and I can use just any drugs. Pls experience mum's, what can I use that will work fast fast. Pls help me ooo. Now I breath tru my mouth |
zeezahbee:I don't see anywhere this poster jumped into any conclusion |
Babatwi:Well I have a different view to this just like @shelly23 said. As long as she had a valid visa when she entered the us and the date stamped on her passport to leave the US has not expired, then she's good. The UK system and that of Us is quite different. In the UK, ur visa allows you entry and stay in the UK. While in d us, ur visa allows u entry at the point of entry alone but the boarder officers determines your period of stay in the us. This has been well argued in the past on this thread and if I remember correctly b4 the tsunami I think someone even had a similar issue where her visa expired before the date stamped on her passport at poe expired |
MamaTobenna:It depends on what you want. If you want a shorter flight time go for BA. If you want a fantastic flight experience and service, regardless of the flight time,go for Emirates. Emirates is setting the pace when it comes to onboard service |
Hello people. Landed san fracisco 12pm US time. My story is long but I will start from somewhere. I'm actually going to Maryland for childbirth but hubby has a conference in San Francisco so we decided to go together. Flew Emirates and it was wonderful. We booked economy but Hubby and I used our Skyward Miles to upgrade to business class so we flew Business class at no extra cost and the experience is better imagined. If I start narrating the experience today, I won't finish. Hubby also got an emirate coupon to be cheffuur driven from dubai to an hotel for the layover so we were able to sleep and take our baths, also had breakfast. They also picked us back frm the hotel to the airport. Landed at SF and our flight was the only one that arrived at the airport. Hubby was only asked why he was in the us, he mentioned the conference and that was all. Nobody even ask me anytin. They took our fingerprints and stamped us in. shikena.. I was shocked. We got to the custom, they took our custom card and the man asked about my job. I told him and he said welcome to san Francisco.we were also cheffuer driven from the airport to our hotel we booked coutesy of emirates. Chilling in SF now till after the conference then straight to MD. All glory to God. because I prayed and prayed for Favour and he answered. My heart was beating when we got to the airport but God had already prepared the way for us. |
Ezemistic:What do you want to do with travel insurance Madam. Biko don't waste your money |
Hello everyone, for those intending to birth in Maryland or baltimore or washington. Came across this spreadsheet and thought I should share it. It contains hospitals in those areas and their cost for delivery including contacts and phone nos of the financial department |
Hello all, thanks to all those who answered my question. My friend has sent her passport no to the abuja embassy and waiting for their response. Meanwhile she also sent the same mail to lagos embassy and they replied with the usual response of no legal obligation to inform them bla bla bla. Thanks everyone |
Phema:Not at all. She want even married then neither was she pregnant. |
Hello all, so I told a friend who is travelling this month to have her baby to write a letter to the embassy. She has a b1/b2 visa which she used early this year to travel. Told her to write a letter as advised by this tread that she intends to use the visa for childbirth. According to her, she said she sent a mail to the Abuja email address stating " I have a valid b1/b2 us visa which I used earlier this year. I'm newly married now and intend to have my baby in the us. Do I apply for anothe r visa or can I used the same one for childbirth purpose". She told me she sent that and they replied that she should send her passport no. Now she is scared ooooo. I told her to wait while I find out from the gurus here. Note she wasn't even married or pregnant when she got the visa |
Petme, it is well. You prevailed at the end.....thats all that matters. God favoured you and will compensate u. Generally, I don't think there's any cause to fear sha. Lots of ppl hv also had great POE experiences at the same houston. Fear can make us make some irrational decisions that will cost us more eventually. Please be at peace and God will give us wisdom and guide us appropriately. I remember when I went for my visa interview, the lady who was bouncing everybody was the same woman that granted our visas without checking a single document. My husband asked me to pray that our number won't be called at her Window and I just said it doesn't matter who it is, so Very true |
@petme 13, thank God u scaled tru at last. For those who haven't bought their tickets, I think it's best to just avoid poe with direct flights from Nigeria. It's been repeated severally on this thread by some old mama's. There are some poe without massive inflow of Nigerians like the case with houston or atlanta. I think it's best to just avoid all troubles weather you declared ur intention at the embassy or not or weather u've been a frequent traveller to the us or not. Above all, let's remember to pray for God's favour. His favour can make u bypass that poe wihtout any troubles. We've had mama's here who passed tru houston and they didn't even spend more than a minute. |
@vickilabfla. Pls help send the mommy book too. Peackersay@yahoo.com |
wumicipm:@wumicipm. Do you have an idea of the cost. I've Googled the hospital and called the numbers I saw on their site but no response. Pls if you have an idea on the cost and a doctor to use, pls share |
@joyeka and @bazaa01, pls I sent you guys PM. Pls respond. I have some questions to ask regarding PG hospital. Thanks |
