Sports › Re: Super Eagles Of Nigeria Thread: 2017 AFCON Qualifiers. by ayusco: 10:08am On Oct 10, 2015
Hey guys great to be here to comment again after so long a time. First of shout out to the OP of this thread and other contributors like Aig17, goke, safarigirl et al special mention to supernerd for his insightful analysis full of wisdom beyond his years keep it up dude!

Now to the issues at hand first the oliseh/enyeama brouhaha supernerd has adequately addressed the issue which I agree with 100% but let me add a slight carveat as much as I blame oliseh for failing to handle the situation we should not be naïve or oblivious to the behaviour of these are senior national team players. Most of them cannot try 10% of what they do in the super eagles with their clubs cos they know that their clubs will call them out on any bullshit they display. While the few ones that do (osaze-westbrom, funny enough oliseh-Dortmund, emenike-fenerbarche etc) get the book thrown at them.

On the Drc match yes it was a dissapointment but analysing the game critically possession was a bit better fluidity too but a combination of lack of quality and execution in defence and wide positions cost us. Plus let's not be too dismissive of the drc's performance they are a talented team on their day. Remember they beat CIV at home in the afcon qualifiers last year and came 3rd in this years afcon. Going forward I havnt yet lost faith in oliseh but he should realise that time is running out

Like supernerd would write God bless Nigeria and the Super Eagles

I'm a huge fan of yekini but all these sensational headlines using cheap emotional blackmail can be annoying. When eusebio died pray tell wasn't it benfica that led tributes for him even though he was one of portugals greats. All these cheap headlines that aim to paint nigeria in a bad light just irritate me. God help us if Gascoigne, Socrates etc were Nigerians the level of BS would be mind boggling

Politics › Re: Professor Jega’s Statement On Election Postponement: Full Text by ayusco: 1:17pm On Feb 08, 2015
Bro I appreciate your pain and frustration but this is not the time for emotional outbursts rather cold calculations, smartness and wisdom is required. We are dealing with a desperate and selfish ruling class as such we shouldn't fall into their trap. Now to the decision to shift the elections I don't fault jega you ask why?

1. Boss let's be pragmatic the military is needed in this our current electoral process. I'm happy you mentioned the 2003, 2007 examples those elections were plagued by armed thuggery, rigging and ballot snatching that was so frequent it was a question of how many boxes would be taken not if or when. The 2011 election had military presence in strategic areas which helped provide a better election than previous.

2. Note that jega said as much as they are ready to conduct the election they don't control security. So if the military, police, para-military(at the prompting of the pdp led govt) claims to be unable to guarantee security on that particular day it would be irresponsible of jega to send young men and women into field without adequate cover knowing how desperate and blood thirsty our politicians are.
barcanista:
This election postponement is most embarrassing and a testament that Preofessor Attahiru Jega is an incompetent and clueless dude just like the President. This is the first time since we returned to democracy that the INEC Boss will openly take orders from the NSA, the Military and members of pro-PDP as regards election scheduling and rescheduling. Since when has the Military activities determines elections scheduling? The Electoral Act and the Constitution did not say NSA, Military and INEC should determine election date. Even if there is crises in a part of the country, Section 26(1) of the Electoral Act 2010 (amended) permit INEC to hold election in the peaceful area and reschedule for the trouble zone at a convenient date. Why can't Jega invoke this section and exclude Gombe, Borno, Adamawa and Yobe from Feb 14 and Feb 28 poll until March 28 and Aprill 11 respectively? Since when do we need the Military for election? What is the Statutory duties of the Police, the NSCDC, and by extension the DSS with respect to internal security? If personnels are not enough then why not bring in other paramilitary to assist? Must it be the Military? Was the Military used in 2003, 2007 and 2011 election? Militarisation started from Edo 2012,then Ondo(2012), Anambra(2011), Osun and Ekiti(2014) Gubernatorial contests. When did the Military become statutory responsible for internal security? The letter of the Chief of Defense State that was communicated to Jega through NSA Sambo Dasuki is treachery and unfortunate. Jega's announcement yesternight only confirmed that he doesn't know what he is doing. This is a shame, our democracy has been raped.

Politics › Re: Buhari Vs Jonathan: Beyond The Election By Charles Soludo by ayusco: 6:40pm On Jan 26, 2015
Great article by soludo. Those organising the presidential debates have a fantastic source material to base their questions on. I don't think soludo was praising the IBB or OBJ per say he was just commending their economic policies.

This article makes for sombre reading especially for the Jonathan govt. Even if he wins(which I strongly doubt) can he show the competence and political will to guide nigeria out of this economic quagmire? From his actions I don't think he can. GEJ as a person seems likeable but is overwhelmed by the job at hand. He atleast could bequeath a legacy of a better electoral process than his predecessors.

As for the GMB crew this is not time for any high fiving but deep understanding and sober reflection of the issues soludo raised. More of detailed facts and less sloganeering please apc.

Whoever wins nigerian should have no illusions that we are in for tougher times ahead but God willing we shall prosper.

Nairaland General › Re: 8 Types Of People You'll Meet At A Fighting Scene In Nigeria by ayusco: 7:15pm On Jan 03, 2015
Lol nice one op OK here's mine

THE PERVERTS: they come in form of separators but are actually the precursor of the tap current crew. They are usually males seeking out female combatants in order to grope them all in the name of 'I dey separate fight'

THE PSYCHIATRIST: similar to the judges but different in the sense that he/she only offers a listening ear. Fighter/fightee: I dey just dey mind my business na him e come fine my trouble psychiatrist: really? Tell me more

VOLTRON FORCE: usually they acts as defenders/supporters club of the combatants.

COMEDY CLUB CREW: these group of individuals find the whole scene hilarious as they just can't stop laughing

EMERGENCY SERVICE NUMBER: they usually call on people around to help end the fight. Ah e bami la won, e bami gbe, se BA yen e Ma Ma wo won (help me separate them, help me carry am, sey na sa u go they look them do nothing?)

THE SEXIST: usually women in conjunction with their male collaborators it doesn't matter if the woman fighter instigated or threw the first punch if the man retaliates he will be blamed ' ah ahn u no say u be man u wan kill am?'

THE GRIM REAPER: announces the death/collapse of a combatant 'moo gbe oti ku o, oti pa yan' (yee he/she don die, U don kii pesin)

SPRINKLER SYSTEM: after the grim reaper has made his announcement they will rush forward with buckets of water to sprinkle on the fallen combatant to revive him or her

THE FANS: they also come after the grim reaper they are not your supporters but people who will come with their bare Hands or various objects to FAN the victim
Politics › Re: The Trouble With The Buhari Manifesto BY ABIMBOLA ADELAKUN by ayusco: 2:59pm On Jan 01, 2015
@passingshot I think you are unfair to the author. She is a regular columnist on the backpage of the Punch on Thursdays. I'm a frequent reader of her opinion pieces and I can say with full confidence that she is an unbiased, nuetral political commentator. She has consistently criticised the Jonathan administration so I doubt she is a paid hack. Instead of shooting the messenger rather look at the message. Buhari should up his game and gain more insight on the workings of the nigerian economy. Only by doing this can we the citizens be convinced that we can entrust GMB with our mandate as a viable alternative to this poor pdp government
PassingShot:
Another paid bigoted writer.

In one sentence, he praises the manifesto and in another sentence he was asking for details of good agenda. Should he not know that programs will come during execution phase?

Talk of looking for dirt in distilled water!

Sports › Re: Keshi Has Lost It - Victor Ikpeba by ayusco: 9:06am On Oct 04, 2014
First of the sad reality is that we Don't have many top players and many a coach would struggle to win something with these set of players so on that score keshi has done wonders. But let's be honest with ourselves the team has not been great lately. One win in our last eleven games, uninspiring play coupled with wrong sometimes baffling player selection eg taking uchebo, ameobi, Reuben Gabriel to world cup inviting some unknown from china, Norway whose record are not even great for such mediocre leagues. I have no issues with dropping players like MBA, ik uche, martins but he should pick players who are better to replace them. You can't tell me with our wide scouting network these are the best he could come up with.

Like I said before Keshi has done very well but he is not indispensable. Great coaches who have lost the plot all over the world have been sacked so keshi won't be an exception. If the Nff decide not to offer him a new contract they should get someone else who will match or better his record that's the minimum standard Nigerians expect
Sports › Re: I Want Nigeria Back — Keshi by ayusco: 7:29pm On Aug 01, 2014
Guy God bless u keshi has equalled westerhof's best performances in lesser time and with lesser quality players (untop abuse n insults o) yet he is rubbish smh ingrates united
dabossman: Same of the same. Basic positions on the football pitch:

____________STC_______________

AML ________AMC____________AMR

ML__________ MC ____________ MR

WBL ________DM_____________WBR

DL_________ DC_______________DR

___________SW________________

__________GK_________________

Keshi's favourite formations are 4-3-3 and 4-2-3-1 with the likes of Moses, Musa, Babatunde and Osaze playing behind the lone striker, Emenike. You accuse Keshi of going to do business like you were the one managing the deals. So, tell me, how many of the players Keshi went to sell have changed clubs yet?

You need to stop watching the Super Eagles with emotions and sentiments and face reality. The best we can get with the coach and players we have is what we got. Yes, Keshi is not the best tactician in the world, but our players are also not among the best in the world, save maybe for Enyeama. So, what were you expecting? To win the World Cup?

I knew before we kicked a ball at the World Cup that the best we would get is 2nd round. Anything after that is a bonus. Which is why I'm not bitter with Keshi, nor the players. You can't give what you don't have. Nigeria is not a super power in World football at senior level period.

Until we can hire the best world-class coaches in the world and have players playing for the top teams in the big leagues and not Turkey, Ukraine and Russia, this is what we will get. Tone down your over-bloated expectations. Keshi has done well by African standards.
