nuelzy:Garden egg Smoked fish Tomato Pepper Onion Veg oil Spices/flavours of choice. Simple steps: cook your garden egg along with the yam, remove them when they are soft and tender, you don't have to cook it with the yam to the end, Peel the skin off thethen mash it in a bowl and keep aside. Make your sauce, I first heat my oil, I use little personally, pour your not too blended ingredients, I love to hear that frying sound ' shriiiiin', allow cook, add your salt, flavours, spices, I like curry and ginger/ garlic, allow cook, add your smoked fish and after a lil while add your mashed garden egg, stir it and let the sauce mix in properly. N.B: The palatability of this will depend on your stew sauce, before you add the garden egg, make sure your sauce is tasty enough. |

Ilaje44:your ekiti is cool, but I will say ' omo a'ba kan ni kete ra' the 'kan' intonation is in the low tone unlike the normal Yoruba which will be in high tone. I have read some of your old topics on Ilajr, especially the one that talked on Ilaje being a Yoruba group and their relationship with the Urhobo. I have visited Ilaje, I went to Igbokoda, Aiyetoro, Araromi, Ugbo and I passed through Mahin. I love your place. It shows how diverse the Yoruba tribe is, I understand the dialect easily, due to the fact that I am from Ekiti, the intonation and speech and some words are close to ours, but unfortunately someone coming from Oshogbo or ogbomosho might be lost and think he is somewhere outside Yoruba land. I will love it if you can do a new write up on the Ilaje people, I want to read about the Ikale and Akoko people too and their association with the binis. |
new menu added Oat meal cookies, they loved it.

I read about the Abeokuta part some years back, it is now corrupted to 'bekuta'. It was a settlement established by Enslaved Yoruba of Egba descent who were brought to Jamaica, after their freedom and obviously as they couldn't come back home, they decide to start a community like the one they left. Professor Wole Soyinka having heard of the story was too excited and decided to visit the place, himself an Egba man, he stated in his account how he saw the last surving woman who knew the history of the community. The woman told him of how she missed how people used to live communally, but most of them have passed away, how the people lived in the traditional ways, religion, food etc, the woman mentioned that all the Yoruba foods known were eaten in Bekuta. Unhappily it was said the woman talked about how things have changed, the younger generations have abandoned the older people's ways and most of them have moved away to the big city. I was deeply intrigued with the story. |
Where is Professor Laz Ekwueme a very seasoned music director, who has written and conducted a lot of orchestra songs, he acts the role of Igwe and Chief mostly in movies. Where is Professor Akinwunmi Ishola who formerly lectures in OAU and later UI, he acts the role of Babalawo mostly. |

cococandy:hahahahahaha, welcome to the meeting!!! |
cococandy:hahahahaha, sorry, you just have to improvise. |
I believe this tradition is restricted to Ondo and Ekiti States, I have never heard of a regency practise amongst the Oyos, Ifes, Egbas and other Yoruba group west of Ondo and Ekiti at least in the recent time. I strongly believe these two states have an earlier aboriginal tradition that existed prior to the time the major Yoruba influx and migration came, the influx came with a superior culture which swallowed the existing one on ground, albeit a whole lot of traces can still be found in terms of this regency thing, even in our dialects, our mode of music, dance steps and drumming. |
Amis:thank you. |
cococandy:I know how it is out there in the land of Tacos and Burritos, what we take for granted here is luxurious there. |
