toks81: I ate amala at home growing up and my mum is one person who never encouraged eating outside. The first time i had a foreign amala experience was in OAU ile-ife,at old buka.I was really scared at first because of the environment. Not to clean baby poop somewhere and then the women behinde large cauldrons dishing out the meal looked like overfed witches serving human parts.well i ordered quite little(to feel among say me sef fit chop outside). After i had a five minute crusade binding and casting the devils from my amala i finally settled down to eat.MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!It was experience like a virgin haveing an orgasm after GOOD sex.wat used to scare me were those very giant rats running up and down the buka, but it never discouraged people from coming to visit those 'Egins' as we used to call those 'overfed witches'. |
i recall stealing 25k(the single coin) from my mum's purse in pry 2 to buy Short cake. Short cake was so addictive. |
he might have had inspiration from Commando, Arnold Schwarzenegger performed a stunt similar to that. |
tpia@:ha ha ha ha, funny. that was then,no w i eat like a proper gentleman. |
we were raised to practice both styles, eating together brought closer bond and togetherness while eating with diff plates on the table taught me the table manners/etiquette and what have you, anyway i still remember that my siblings used to dread me when we share food, cos i always eat faster than them and i av got this natural fridge in my mouth that cools hot food, so while others are still blowing on their food, i would have already taken like three morsel/spoon. |
afanda: Lagos to sokoto with my Baby boy 2000 model V6. Left Gidi 0530 got to Sokoto around 2200hrs. Worst road. Lagos - Ibadan - Jebba - mokwa - Kontagora - yauri - koko - jega - shagari - sokoto. Drove all alone with my bottle of Red Label. I jst dey go my tin.i see u Afanda. (always good to go) |
even a white man that handed over most of these etiquette to you eat in the public. you see a hot dog stand here and there the city of new york and people stand and munch on their food. how can you tell me not to put my elbow on the table when eating, you eat the way most comfortable for you, asides eating noisily like a pig any other habit to me is not big deal. Who even created the rules of what is wrong or right. Why cant we live free in this world. |
Am a Yoruba person and very objective. the tribal inclined comments started when someone attributed the Man's Success to that of the Yorubas. A true Yoruba man does not even blow his trumpet, We are Nigerians, anybody successful should be a pride to all. |
Now when some people are suffering from 'some' very terrible experience(s), they would'nt know it is a curse placed on them by God for violating his word of ' touch not my anointed' inasmuch we have to condemn the Governor's wasteful attempt, we should never blaspheme on a man of God. |
If Baba obadare could still voice out, he would have told him to use the money to cater for the masses. Continue to rest with the lord one of the very few true men of God. |
normaljenny: He did the first rap verse, cool music videos in naija, b4 pretty and junior even thought of it. He reigned along side stars like shina peters, onyeka owenu, bright chimezie, oliver d coke, oirtz wiliki, charlie boy etcAlex O and Alex Zitto were the bomb in those days. |

Tolexander: See what webometric saw below with academic excellence that made them ranked OAU higher!http://www.google.com.ng/url?sa=i&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&docid=YuDnQHkZmO9lVM&tbnid=x7Yb4oiiZmoznM:&ved=0CAcQjB0wAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.axuedu.com%2Fud%2FObafemi-Awolowo-University%2F73%2Fshow.html&ei=9eUAUs66EZCYhQfzn4DIBg&psig=AFQjCNEdqKm0nHlw458f4WV50WN-og04NA&ust=1375876981358758 |
i used to be a dare devil wayback then with my elder brother and other neighbour kids, my dad used to keep a dane gun then, i used to threaten other young kids with it, forming 'FADEYI OLORO' for those who watched the popular yoruba episode ARELU back then in the west, atimes i will go to my father's closet to steal/sip some of his Scotch whiskey, d day i was caught, hmmm beating was so much, other very dangerous things like first to climb a three storey building; beating to pulp any goat that enters the compound; imitating superman by tying my mums wrapper around my neck and jumping from the high balcony wall; catching lizards and cutting the neck off. So so many horrible rough play that i would'nt want my child to engage in. Now being a parent, i really ponder on the kind of stress we must have caused our parents in those days. |
Nigerians listen to the truth, or if you like you do not, why do we allow other people mock us, people who are not even there yet, do we have as much South Africans in Nigeria as we have Nigerians in SA. am very sure, No. Please what are we doing in that country for Gods sake, a country that is still struggling to take care of it's own. They are not even there yet, why make the country so important. Our country is far more blessed than SA, if not for the the evil of poor leadership, we should all be dining with silver spoon, if things are right. My warning is: don't wait for these hateful people start burning you and your house before you wise up. Find a better country to live or better still come home. Half a word is enough for the wise |
bellong: My students refused to graduate....i think that came out from one Dean of Faculty, Geology i think when all other proud Deans were busy calling out their students for VC hand shake'during convocation, the old guy just simply shouted 'my students refused to graduate'. I will never forget my dept Mgt& Acct, the stress and late night reading. |
Ola Johnson: There is no issue. I just left the new Post Graduate College Complex donated by our fellow alumni, Jimoh Ibrahim. New structures have either been built or still being built. What about old buka and the Iya Egins, fufu, Lafon and all their menu. what about new buka, ala carte, one calabar joint wey i chop 'idin'(maggot) for dia food, for some time den if we want to eat in new buka we used to say we want to go and eat 'idin'. Are those places still there. Miss Ife lotssss. |
Tolexander: read thisHe is a great man. |
No Pocketing. |
Gunzilla: It was the Medical Doctors Induction in 1996.And there was no pandemonium or parents running out and all that..It was Tony Fash and dem Obesere and immediately VC Omole saw them,he got into the car and left...so also the other principal officers...And why are you proud of such and act ? Your colleagues have worked tirelessly for 6 plus X years and the day of their joy and jubilation, you decided to distrupt the whole thing ?!Not that am proud of the actions of Tony Fash then, i was just being proud that am part of such a school. Thanks for the true story,i was not a student as at then. I was aware of the era of Papa Sho ( Soetan) cos he used to come to my secondary School then Moremi High School OAU, Ife to shut down the school, the school used to be the battle ground between him and the mobile police. I can vividly recall the burning pain of tear gas in our young eyes and students running helter skelter way back then '90's, 91....... atimes the SUG guys then during protest visit the University Staff School and kidnap Professors children. OAU was a very radical school. |
who on the thread could recall or heard of a certain convocation that was disorganised by Tony Fash and his boys, should be for 1995 or 1996 Graduands. It was said that important dignitaries, traditional rulers, proud parents and the brilliantly dressed VC and other Professors all seated in Amphi Theatre upon sighting the Warlike Tony Fash and his boys scampered out of the Hall in various exits. Some parents lost shoes, money and other valuables in a bid to escape, i even heard some parents with tears in their eyes were casting spells and raining curses on him for spoiling their day. OAU with radicalism, so proud i was a product. |
Not the whole of the campus stood still that day rather the whole of Ile-Ife township wept, it was a gory incident, i used to come to school then from my parents house in Rd 7 Olonade, the whole city wept i say. George Iwilade ( Afrika), Eviano Ekelemu and others rest in peace. |
Examples of ancient Ekiti words and translations in both standard Yoruba and English : Ideregbe (Ewure or Goat), Okeregba (Aja or Dog), Amomo (Alangba or Lizard), Usa (Ikoko or Pot), Ukere (Ago or Calabash Cup), Ogolomosi (Ibepe or Pawpaw), Oyeye (Epa or Groundnut). |
Able to hold down an intellectual conversation; Character/personality; Sense of humor/confidence; and A good dress sense. Height is not a major issue; cos I'm already a tall lady....so if he's taller, my exact height or a bit shorter, it wouldn't make any difference.... Complexion is also not a major issue; he could be dark or light skinned.... I haven't got a preference |
i feel so bad when the igbo people always label the yorubas as cowards, fear fear, betrayal waheva stuff, it just shows that they are so insensitive and rather ungrateful. has anyone of them found out or read about the then Military Governor of the western region Late Adekunle Fajuyi a yoruba who was killed together with his Boss Late Johnson Thomas Umunakwe Aguiyi- Ironsi. Common people wat type of loyalty, bravador and honor do you want from a man than that shown from this great Yoruba officer. |
let Benjamin 'Red Scorpion' Adekunle's quote be their motto 'We shot at things moving and the things not moving' |
