Phagyrhe: RwandAir Kenya Airways Air Namibia
These are small African countries with efficient airways providing jobs for the citizens and forex for their countries.
Let's even assume we want to look up the number of air travellers in and out of Nigeria, if you combine number of air travellers in these three countries, they won't still match the number of air travellers in Nigeria. Cheers! All the above airlines mentioned are all being subsidized by the government. They are providing jobs but at what cost to the country? |
Politics › Re: Former AMCON CEO's Tweet About $300m Nigeria Air Is Misleading And Mischievous by AZeD1(m): 3:11pm On Jul 22, 2018 |
Phagyrhe: Yes, it does. Permit me to explain this in brief.
The Nigerian Airways is a Nigerian offshoot company. Like every national carrier across the globe, the government is solely responsible for its set up. However, in order to stay efficient and free from government bottlenecks, willing investors who will manage its daily affairs like a private entity are needed. You don't expect a foreign company to set up a company that represent the Nigerian brand for us. This is a whole lot of rubbish. The government says its will own only 5% of the company, which means its basically a private airline. National carriers are either fully government owned or majorly government owned. |
Politics › Re: Former AMCON CEO's Tweet About $300m Nigeria Air Is Misleading And Mischievous by AZeD1(m): 2:18pm On Jul 22, 2018 |
PassingShot: The $300m is the required start-up - that is surely 100% of money required at start-up.
The 2nd fact is that government is investing maximum of 5% in the project. Does it make sense that the govt will pay 100% initial capital and pay 5% of subsequent running capital?
From all you have read, does $300m (which was clearly stated is the initial required capital) represent 5% of initial capital? If it does, then the initial capital will be $6bn. Does it make sense that the person who owns 5% of an airline is the one negotiating with aircraft manufacturers? |

Rossikki: But WHY?
I see no reason why the govt should crush competition. The more airlines we have the better. It will help to drive down prices, and lead to improved services brought about by competition. This is a country of 200 million people. We cannot just have one airline. You still don't understand, the government owns those Airlines, so which competition are they crushing? Arik already operates the New York route. Make Nigeria condusive for business and they will come. Nobody has complained about the railways the government is building because that makes economic sense, a National carrier, no. |
Politics › Re: Oby Ezekwesili Is A Sick, Demented Fool For Her Nigeria Air Remarks by AZeD1(m): 12:34am On Jul 20, 2018 |
Rossikki: Arik and Aero are private enterprises. What makes you think the govt can just wake up and order them to merge into a national airline? The way some of you reason is just weird. Are we Stalinist Russia or what? Arik and Aero are owned by the government via AMCON. As at today they are not private. If the government was serious about setting up an airline, they would have started from there. |
Politics › Re: Oby Ezekwesili Is A Sick, Demented Fool For Her Nigeria Air Remarks by AZeD1(m): 12:21am On Jul 20, 2018 |
Rossikki: I see nothing strange about the arrangement. Why should the government not invest funds in building up the airline? It shows serious intent, and it will attract investors. They are putting their money where their mouth is.
MOST IMPORTANTLY, WHY ARE YOU PRAYING FOR THE PROJECT TO FAIL? That is the question. You have NOT answered that question. I am not really here to discuss the modalities of the arrangement.
If you are praying for it to fail, then you are a MINUS for the country. Nobody is praying for it to fail, but we've been down this route before. Remember virgin Nigeria? Like I said earlier, the government already owns Aero and Arik, if they were serious about an airline, they would have merged the operations of the two and started business. $50M would take Arik and Aero very far. |
Politics › Re: Oby Ezekwesili Is A Sick, Demented Fool For Her Nigeria Air Remarks by AZeD1(m): 12:11am On Jul 20, 2018 |
Rossikki: Ethiopian Airlines was developed and nurtured AT THE VERY SAME TIME that country was enduring starvation, drought, war, terrorism, and underdevelopment. Look at Ethiopian Airlines today. They can stand side by side with any airline in the world, incliuding British Airways, Lufthansa, Swissair, Air France, Emirates, among others.
Why? They believed in themselves, despite all impediments.
Lesson: You never ever underestimate your capabilities, or curtail your ambitions as a nation and as a people, based on current or past circumstances. The Nigerian People already own Arik and Aero, if the government was serious, they would have merged the two into one airline. The government says its not going to own more than 5% of the airline yet it's negotiating with aircraft manufacturers. The government says it would own not more than 5% yet it is going to drop $300M for take off? The airline is supposed to start in December, nobody knows the other investors in July. If it looks like bs, sounds like bs, then ........ |

BlackMbakara1: Let them run their own thing while FG does it's own.
You want FG to carry their liability after their directors have bought houses with loaned money?
Besides FG has only 5% in the JV, so worry less... 1) FG is already carrying their liability via AMCON. 2) FG says it will only have 5% yet drop $300M? |

BlackMbakara1: FG can negotiate, it doesn't matter...
Aero and Arik, have they closed shops? Aero and Arik and currently owned by AMCON(FG) so if the FG was serious about a National Carrier and not a political stunt, they would have combined the two airlines, invited the so called investor with 95% to inject the funds, technical know how and boom you have an air line with planes already flying. |

Abbeybailey: You have a point but Arik is not a good airline because I flew with them from JFK to MMA and I can tell you that it's not a good airline. I agree Arik is terrible but there's the option of rebranding. This airline business looks more like a political decision rather than a business decision. |

Abbeybailey: It's doable unless if you think less of your country. You can chew and walk at the same time. Anyway, it's your opinion and I think it can help but you guys probably know more about Nigeria than i do. The government says they are going to only hold 5%(max) of the new airline, which means its basically 95% private led; There's Air peace, Arik (which already flies to New York and Gatwick) and there's Aero that goes or used to go to Ghana(West Africa), don't you think it would have been smarter for the government to see how they can help this airlines grow bigger rather than start from scratch? |
Travel › Re: Nigeria Air: National Airline Unveiled (Photos, Video) by AZeD1(m): 7:17pm On Jul 18, 2018 |
1) How is it that an entity that holds only 5% of a business is the one handling the negotiations of the Aircraft? 2) Who are the private investors? Do they already have the investors? 3) Won't it have been smarter to ensure the survival of Arik, Air peace and other indigenous airlines? |
Politics › Re: Nigeria Air: Federal Government Unveils New National Carrier In London by AZeD1(m): 7:03pm On Jul 18, 2018 |
Abbeybailey: I think your IQ is below par. Comparing US to Nigeria shows how shallow you are. Compare Nigeria to Ghana, Senegal , Cotedivoire and other similar countries in West Africa that have National Airlines that I see regularly in America and Europe. By the way, it's not my host country, it's my country of origin. Once again, you are a shallow minded Nigerian and I feel sorry for your kind. Ghana Airways and Senegal Airways have ceased operations. |

Abbeybailey: What's so painful to you about your country owning her own airline. You must be an enemy of progress. Get rid of your negativity. 1) Owning a National Airline is the least of our troubles. 2) What has the government done to ensure that our local airlines don't go under? 3) If the government is not owning the airline, won't it have been smarter to push already existing airlines like Air Peace, Aero and the likes to grow bigger? PS: The minister says the Government won't own more than 5% of the airline yet its negotiating with Aircraft Manufacturers? |

Okay i booked airbnb already for 2 weeks but i need to get accommodation before the end of the period(preferably a house because i have 3 super active kids), but i did not get any response to any house i showed interest in on Kijiji
1 How else can i go about this accommodation (just to book viewing sef)
2 Please can we start ottawa whatsapp group please (instant response to critical question can be pof saving)
3 I keep hearing no area is too far in ottawa , please how is living in the sub hurb and finding job within.
4 How do we do people socialize (side story : i contacted RCCG overcomers chapel on instagram, lets just say maybe they will respond when i get there) 1) What is your budget, type of accomodation you want and when do you plan to land? I can do the search for you on Kijiji and organize for you to view when you land. 3) This is sort of true and not true (It takes me about two hours by bus to get to work, but if I drive, its 28 mins). It also depends on your direction of work. If you work down town, you would most likely meet traffic is you drive and parking can be an issue sometimes. 4) I have tried to organize meet ups here but non responded. |

Orji Uzor Kalu, Ohakim, Nwobodo, etc. They are all products of the Nigerian system.
There is no telling how they could have performed, once the Abuja protection and connection are severed. Nobody in Abuja told them to steal, they did it because of greed. Blaming diversity for Nigeria's problem is like saying a guy steals his father because they leave diverse Street. Does that make sense to you? |
