I told him this in the first article he wrote.

OP driverless cars can learn on their own and they would work in Nigeria.

zero import duty on Cement?

did I just see/read zero import duty on CEMENT in that list?

cement that as at 2014, we were approaching self sufficiency on.

then they ban 'bagged cement'?

where are those nitwits that were praising the ban on some essential pharmaceutical products?

can they please come & clear up this contradiction of their twisted logic?

or is it going to be the usual "four legs good, two legs bad... four legs good, two legs better" chant?
If you had read with an open mind, you'd have understood what was written.

It says ”For machineries and equipment used in sectors such as agriculture , cement, hospitality , power , iron and steel , solid minerals , textile and aviation , the government, according to the circular , approved a zero import duty"

Which translates to if you are importing machines that are used to make cement in Nigeria, you'd pay no import duty.

There are lots of pressing needs that should be addressed before the talk of building airports.

You guys are taking advantage of the increase in unemployment in the country to recruit people into slavery, The organization need to repent from their wicked act.
1) Nobody is forcing anybody to take the job.
2) The employer has stated how much he is willing to pay, its left for people to decide if its worth their time.
3) You have no idea if the company is making money but you have already castigated the company
4) There are peeps willing to work for free just to get experience

So why is it hard to get a prepaid meter in Nigeria? If the disco's were to gain from metering customers, why are they not in a rush to do that?

not true, the govt as represented by the power minister has the power to define policies and set regulations, it also has the power to mete out appropriate sanctions to bodies that violate its regulations.
That is the function of NERC.

Look, you can always make yourself useful, especially when you have so much clout as the freaking "MINISTER OF POWER".

It's simple, if he as useless as you say he is and he possesses even an ounce of integrity, then he should step down and save the nation some much needed income. Else, he should get to work, even if it is just as a lobbyist with that clout, he would get so much done.

My Dad was once in those circles and he was an excellent lobbyist to the point that he would get backlogs of issues that needed authorization from a different "department", sorted just by lobbying those with the direct authorization needed to solve his "departments" problems. He didn't just sit down, fold his arms and say there was nothing he could do.
I am of the opinion that the power ministry should be scrapped not because of Fashola, but because the ministry has outlived its usefulness. If you sit down to analyse the problems of the power sector, then you'll know that no matter who the minister is, until certain things are put in place, Nigeria would have power problems.

Those certain things i talked about are in the "chicken vs egg" category.

Regulation and problem solving, not siting down in the office doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, because his post requires ZERO amount of work according to you.

He might as well not even go the office na, abihuh

Regulate, revoke licenses, lobby for reformation laws in the power sector. Don't just sit there doing NOTHING, sigh undecided
Licences / regulation are in the hands of the regulatory agency NERC.

We used to need a minister of power because the FG held sway in the power sector from start to finish, but that is not the case any more.

Read more and educate your self. You can start by checking the NERC website.

Yes, from estimated billings, and you can refuse to pay, but you can't refuse to pay with prepaid metre in place.
The disco balance the non payment by overcharging people they know will pay... That's why they are not in a hurry to ensure all customers have meters.

ayobase:
Then not pronounced like others - More reasons people don't care.

What are the penalties?
The penalties are truly severe. It's just that no one enforces them.

Nope, they will gain badly if well monitored and maintained.

You buy what you will consume, and not paying for what consumed.

Pay as you use!
But right now, the discos can and make money if you don't use power so why will you having a meter favour them?

You are not getting the reason behind the rejection and you are therefore missing the point completely.
If the Gencos due to blown up pipelines cannot generate power, they won't be in a position to send any Invoice to the Discos for settlement.
If they are supply with enough power and they know their cost, they only simply add the margin and bill the consumers for what they consumed, therefore the more power they can wheeled to people's houses the better for them.

You need to know the value chain involve to understand the issues

Gas Producers ------> Electricity Generating Company ------> Transmission ------->Electricity Distribution Company ------>Household and Industrial consumers.

The Discos are more or less a collecting agent for the Gencos (for a fee)
If you get light for 3 hours or you get for 6 hours, your bill is most likely the same.
If I travel for 2 months, I'll still get a bill but if I had prepaid meter, if I travel for 2 months and everything is off, the disco makes no money from me.

Have you ever wondered why it's hard to get a prepaid meter? If it would help the discos don't you think they'll do everything to make sure every customer has one.

Not really, in fact, it will be better for them if people are properly metered. The more power they can deliver to metered households, the more efficient they get and more profitable they can get.
As of now, meters won't favour the companies.
Without meters, the discos can generate a certain amount of money via estimated billings but if houses are metered and a pipeline is blown in the Niger delta, then the income for the discos isn't guaranteed.

Also without billing, you pay for low current but with smart meters, your account doesn't read with low current.

What is the work and responsibility of the Ministry of Power?....abeg make una do your jobs and stop misleading people trying to garner sympathy....it's your job to ensure Power (which includes planning, production, supply, delivery and regulation).....

Stop masking incompetence with lies and propaganda of shifting blame....own up to your responsibilities and deliver a better standard of living for your citizenry!.
Actually the power companies have been sold, so production and delivery are not in the hands of the power minister anymore, he's work is more of regulation. You should keep up to date with things happening in the country.

You can regulate, but you can't force, if you decide to force, they can decide to take down a line for maintenance that would last for months, what then would Fashola do? Tell them they can't do maintenance?

The power problem in this country is multifaceted. It needs iron hand. Fashola seems inundated and too soft with these discos.

Mynd44, OAM4J, Lalasticlala please come and see this interesting report. Discos are turning down power supply despite that people are eagerly and prayerfully waiting to receive such electricity.

Something is definitely wrong somewhere with the power administration and management in this country.
They are rejecting it because the can't afford to pay for it.
As of now, the Minister of Power is a more or less a ceremonial post because there's really nothing the power minister can do to the gencos and discos since they are private entities.
