Okorocha And The 'Evil' Tales

Incumbent Imo State Governor, Rochas
Okorocha, who is also currently seeking
re-election has been in the news a lot
lately. He recently alleged that about
seven Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
governors were secretly working with
his party to ensure General
Muhammadu Buhari’s victory in the
forthcoming poll, although the PDP has
discredited any plan of its governor to
defect to the APC.
Journalist and Splendour magazine
columnist, Morakinyo Olugbiji, in this
piece, writes about the various
achievements of the governor.
Read below:
Imo state governor, Rochas Owelle Anayo
Okorocha in my opinion, has been one of
the most talked about governors in the
social media for a while now. I started
taking a keen interest in Okorocha from
the time he first came out to show an
interest in becoming Nigeria’s President.
Then, NTA network used to feature a
documentary about his impressive
achievements; how he has been funding
children with Down Syndrome, putting
them in a jet for excursion. I don’t know if
he owned the jet but he is believed to
have made his wealth in business, way
before entering politics.
So, the documentary showed how this
man had been sponsoring the education
of thousands of students, contributing to
different Imo communities, and what
have you! Just like myself, I’m sure millions
of viewers then couldn’t have helped but
liked this man. Infact, my total conclusion
of Okorocha at the time was that this man
must simply be God’s gift to mankind. But
no sooner had he become a governor
than I started hearing and reading all
manners of hate reports about him. How
did such an ‘angel’ come to be this ‘evil’ as
one Lagos-based, Imolite referred to him
in a tweet the other day? I wouldn’t know
if this imolite has stepped his feet on the
soil of his state in the last three years, or
just drawing his assertions from some of
the online reports out there as it’s the
case with many people like him.

Okorocha – Deacon
Is there even any politician that hasn’t
been tagged evil? Even governor Fashola
of Lagos State for hugely transforming
Lagos State won more enemies. But I
want to believe Okorocha’s case must be
different for there to be so many pull-him-
down reports against him in the media. I
just came back from Imo state, and like
my past trips, first-hand experience and
conversations with a cross sections of
Imolites; from my cab man to the market
women I met, to the youths, it dawned on
me why Okorocha has continued to be
tagged ‘evil’ and I can’t but agree with all
the online reports. ‘Evil’ is an
understatement, Okorocha is the ‘devil’
himself! Let me explain the ‘evils’ he has
meted out to the people of Imo state.
How can Okorocha just come from
nowhere and declare education free for
Imo indigenes up to the tertiary level?
Where in Nigeria is that done? Okorocha
said, “let education be free so that the
children of the poor can be educated and
know their rights”. Past administrations
in the state for instance fixed school fees
in Imo State University at 150,000(one
hundred and fifty thousand naira),
Okorocha came and reversed it and now
it’s totally free. Does he realise how much
some people are losing as a result of that
evil decision of his? So he thinks, he can
just become the Awolowo of the Igbos
overnight? In a state where past
administrations have commercialized
education at the detriment of the Igbo
child and consistently increased tuitions
arbitrarily, he thinks he can just come like
that and change the status quo? His over
305 precast schools built in all the wards
in Imo state, aren’t they too sophisticated
for the average Imo youths? Even GEJ
reportedly attested to it when he once
landed in one of the schools in a chopper
and asked, ‘is this Imo state university?’.
Every student is even entitled to free
uniforms, books, sandals, modern desks,
and is even paid a stipend for coming to
school. Dilapidating and collapsing public
infrastructures that have been abandoned
for years have also been given a new life,
while some have been bluntly replaced
with very monumental Roman-like
edifices; for instance the Freedom Square
and the Imo Hall of Fame.
Even the government house which should
serve as one of the glories of the state,
which past administrations ignored for
many years with dilapidated, uncompleted
structures , and no one lived there; now
looks like a small London! Does the
government house belong to Okorocha’s
father? Why can’t he just leave it the way
it was. After all, as the saying goes;
Government is like soldier go, soldier
come, the barrack remains. And have you
seen that breathtaking chapel he built for
worshipping God in the state house? Only
in Imo state! Now you know that
Okorocha is undeniably the devil
incarnate. Who asked Okorocha to dualise
Imo roads. Who send am? In Imo state,
over 600 kilometres of rural roads
network have been dualised. Imagine
creating the Akachi dualised road with a
bridge, where everybody thought
impossible, also 6.4km road from Douglas
road to Naze junction? Some of these
road networks, hitherto had become
death traps decorated with potholes,
gullies and ditches since built during the
Sam Mbakwe administration more than
33 years ago, and past administrations
pretended not to see all that even as
Imolites and visitors died in accidents on
these roads everytime.
Flood over-ran several areas in Imo state
due to lack of proper drainage system.
The gutters were full with debris and over
flowing, Imo state was fast becoming a
desert, but see what this evil Okorocha
has done to Imo state now? And Instead
of him, like most Nigerian governors to
concentrate on the state capital, Okorocha
is not focusing on Owerri alone, he still
extends his ‘evil’ projects to villages like
Orlu. Practically, every street in Orlu is now
dualised with street lights. Okorocha has
even dualised the road from Owerri to
Orlu, and even from Orlu down to the
boundary with Anambra state. This is
being done by Okorocha even though this
is a federal road. The past administrations
were smarter. They didn’t even touch the
roads within town, let alone touch a
federal road. Now tell me, why won’t
there be a massive misinformation and
pull-him-down campaigns against him? Is
he a learner? Doesn’t he know that the
phrase ‘politics is a dirty game’, takes its
deepest root in Nigeria?
READ ALSO: Open Letter To Governor
Rochas Okorocha
For crying out loud, who asked Okorocha
to help Imo state manage its revenue?
When this man got into office, he met
over 200 Imo state local government
accounts in existence and reduced it to
just one, now yielding over N17billion.
Okorocha why? Same with his heartless
cost-saving mechanisms which ensures
that Imo state saved N7billion after paying
over N34billion in salaries and pension.
The facts are everywhere! This ‘evil’ of a
governor fearlessly put a stop to
constructions of one kilometre of roads at
N120million Naira to around
N60-70million on even better road
projects. And you say that there shouldn’t
be elite conspiracy against him, when he
has refused to share with them the
resources of the state the way it was
previously being shared? Okorocha is not
a sharp guy at all, doesn’t he know that
this is naija! Why won’t he allow people
chop and clean mouth? It was obvious
from his first time in office that this man
was set to spoil things for others.
Okorocha always seem to feel that he
knows more than every other past
governors in Imo state. How can he say
that N18,000 national minimum wage
cannot sustain a worker, and decided to
increase workers minimum wage in Imo
state to N20,000 and even announced
free medical care for the workers. Arrant
nonsense!!! Are Imo workers his family
members? What’s his business if many
Imo workers have high blood pressure
and high blood sugar level? He won’t
mind his business. Now, see how corpers
are always jostling to get posted to Imo
state, because they know that this ‘evil’
governor pays the most attractive state
‘allawee’ in the whole of Nigeria.
Have you also seen the 27 general
hospitals Okorocha constructed in each
27 Local government areas of Imo state?
Why didn’t previous governors do that?
Just about four months ago, he
commissioned the Ochiedike Dialysis and
Diagnostic Centre in Owerri and declared
free tests for prostate and breast cancer.
For that gesture alone, all women
especially, should come together and
protest that Okorocha is ‘evil’!
Why must the majority of the projects
being carried out in Imo state be given to
indigenes and all the manpower coming
from indigenes, instead of expatriates?
Even a few foreign contractors getting the
jobs are mandated to use indigenous
labour! Why? Okorocha what have you
done? Must Imo youths get paid? Must
you employ the services of the artisans in
the state. What’s your problem? Why can’t
you just leave the youths to grumble like
they have been doing in the past. You
even set up the Imo Film academy so that
you can promote the talents of the youths.
What a waste!! What talents have Imo
youths got? Hmmn, tell me! This is not the
Imo they used to know, why don’t you
just leave the youths alone and let them
be as they were before you became a
governor. Let them continue to swoon in
abject poverty, want and deprivation. All
these youth empowerments will only
ensure that you remain an ‘evil’ governor;
you know how powerful and influential
these propagandists are.

It has been a popular say that Abia state is not good and some even call it a hell, painting our God's blessed state with all manner of bad names. And i tried to prove them wrong by showcasing the real pix of Abia state but the end result was curse from people that are not even from Abia saying that i was supporting TA Orji and his evil indeed in Abia state.

But the question still lies, who told them that TA Orji did not do anything in Abia?

The truth must be told, he did his best just like Orji Uzor Kalu but the problem is the neglect he meted on Aba being the largest city in the old eastern region after Portharcourt. But still tomorrow Aba still look wonderful to new visitors despite the present negligence. You can try it if you've not been to Aba before.

Conservation of your dialect is good, to me, it's a welcome idea but we should not use it to cause crisis or division in the larger society.

Ikwerre is more related to central igbo compare to Abiriba in Abia state, Nsukka in Enugu state, Ogwashi in Delta state and Ezza in Ebonyi state. So brother it's high time we drop the past and unite to fight our single enemies who put divisions among us so as to siphon our resources for the development of their place.

Why do Igbos always claim that other tribes cant do without them?

You know Igbos need others more than others need them, yet u still make claims that others will suffer if Igbos leave.

Obigbo and Omuma are Rivers and shall be that way..all Igbos want is control of oil and access to sea..greed is exactly what drives Igbos in all this.

And yes, Rivers state is firmly in the hands of the Ikwerreman, infact, it belongs to us.forget about the drama being acted out by Amaechi and Wike, its all 'arrangee'..pls do not come to spoil our groove with Igboness.

Daalu.
Oil my feet, this is what is deceiving you. Igbos are hustlers to look after oil, we don't believe in cheap things that can't last forever. God has given us the blessing and it is forever with us, we can turn stone into gold and turn dry land into fertile land.

Let's not deviate from the main argument, igbos are not claiming any land or any oil but what that rightfully belong to us. We are claiming some parts of rivers state not because of oil or access to sea but because of love of brotherhood.

Will you be happy to see Obi/akpor and Portharcourt saying that they are not Ikwerre tomorrow?

Igbo can not claim any part of Anang, Ibibio, Eket and Oron which are all in Akwa Ibom state and is the highest oil producing state in Nigeria. They share boundary with Abia state even share similar culture, market, streams, schools and even churches but have alot of differences in language.

But the case is quite different in the case of Opobo and Bonny which was established by Igbo slaves, Obigbo and Omuma which were carved out of old Imo state, the Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni, Ahoada and the controversial Ikwerres who denied their Igboness due to fear of ordinary Hausa people.

Before Biafra war there was a rare voice that Ikwerre is not Igbo and Ogbakor Ikwerre was one of the factors that persuaded Emeka Ojukwu to declare Biafra republic.

You might claim whatever you want but when the chips are down you must vacate the land for the rightful owners unless you are ready to fight the Igbos like the Palestinians are doing to the Jews. When Cameroun reclaimed Bakassi peninsula the acclaimed indigenes who said that they won't follow Cameroun vacated the land.

The world archive still have the old Igboland map and will not like to do injustice to that.

So bro, if you want continue hovering in the world of denial and ignorance, you and i know that Ikwerre belongs to southern Igbo group but decided to hide their identity just for political convenience.

Deep inside of you, you are not serious about this Identity crises.

Oga, this control of power issue in Rivers state i hope you should not forget so easily that it was an Ogba(an Igboid clan) man that handed over power to ikwerre. Apart from Omehia and Amaechi no Ikwerre man has ruled Rivers state.

Old Rivers state was solely on the hands of Ijaws, Igboid started ruling after the creation of Bayelsa state.

I'm a passer-by but is like i will branch and engage this HopeatHand for a short while.

Hmmmmm, every ant must point a finger at a giant Igbo, if ikwerres think that Rivers state belong to them let them ask Igbos to vacate Portharcourt and see what will happen to them, this is not 1970 and can't be. I'm sorry Igbo has dominated your place just like Yorubas dominated Egun and Awori's lagos state.

Ikwerre should ask Kano and Kaduna what happened to them when they pushed Igbos to wall. Even great yoruba with equal strength with Igbos has not asked Igbos to vacate Lagos talk more of small Ikwerre clan of just 4LGAs.

For their information, Obigbo and Umuma belong to Abia and have nothing to do with ikwerre and Abia must claim them at a due time. Obigbo and Omuma are Ndoki and Asa stock of Igbo and are more related to people of Ukwa in Abia state.

abeg let us stop this back and forth. i have conscience, i cant support people blindly without at least telling you the truth. ikpeazu tried his best as a deputizing officer but it does not remove the fact that aba is still very dirty when compared to other south east towns and cities and requires government marshal action to restore it in good condition. the roads are bad that asepa people do not even have access to most of the places. so aba needs serious budget and government will if not it will continue to get worse. the only reason i am supporting ikpeazu is because he told us last month in aba that he will make a special budget for aba, and that is what aba needs and not haphazard approach like ouk did. please let us all work for the enthronement of ikpeazu.
So you have agreed that OUk even gave haphazard approach, then what did TA Orji give.

my brother forget all these nonsense you are doing. it cannot help. when it comes to dirty environment and bad roads aba has no equals in the south east. i am from aba and i know that aba's situation he very bad. i will continue to say it ouk spoilt aba. i am very optimistic that ikpeazu being an aba boy will correct all those things. let us vote wisely by voting ikpeazu.
Oga voting wisely is to drop Ikpeazu if you are going by that. So you are trying to tell me that TA Orji govt who is receiving tens of Billion naira in a month is better than Orji Uzor Kalu who received just hundreds of million naira during his own time.

Hmmmm, Oga you must be unserious. I've been defending my state not Ochendo cos he's the worst and if PDP candidate goes with his name he will fail.

Most beautiful places in Umuahia who built them, the library/Akanu ibiam road popular known as bank road, all the roads in govt layout, Aguiyi Ironsi layout and so on?

Orji Uzor never played with workers' salary which Ochendo is doing today. Orji Uzor Kalu gave free education to primary and secondary schools and Absu and Abiapoly were paying fees less down N20,000 but now under Ochendo how much are they paying?

Kalu created many roads in Aba like the MCC, Umule, umuocham and many others but which one did Ochondo do?

He was the person that built his Igberre, item, alayi, Abiriba and Ohaofia but what did Ochendo do for Ohuhu, Ubakala, Olokoro, Ikwuano, Umuokpara and his Ibeku except the few markets he relocated and Missiohill and Bende rd he divided?

Everybody knows that kalu did very well in his 1st tenure and won best governor for two consecutive times. Before the inception of his govt both of us know that all the roads in Abia were in deplorable states even the ones built by Mbakwe and filgerows but he rehabilitated all of them and created new ones.

Tenant rd, milvaton rd, market rd, Kent rd, school rd infact almost all the roads in the Aba main town were untarred except the major roads, though Mbakwe constructed some of these roads gutter before they were obstructed by the military but kalu tarred all of them.

During kalu regime one can be proud to tell one that starting from CKC cathedral to brass junction is the Aba main town because then these places were neat and beautiful but in Ochondo regime, you hardly see anywhere in Aba they are giving any attention.

During Kalu regime Okigwe and Eziukwu roads were calculated as one of the finest roads but now what's the condition of the 2 roads.

Oga don't call OUK black trying to praise Ochendo cos in the history of Abia state apart from military regimes Ochendo is the worst considering what he's receiving as monthly allocations.

Ochendo did not do anything in Aba rather he frustrated Aba.

I was supporting Ikpeazu just because he's from Aba city not because of Ochendo or PDP.

And mind you, Otti is not from Arochukwu as we say, he's from Isiala Ngwa south and can pull our votes.

Thanks, and stop campaigning as Custonized13 told you.

If you are now telling people that Aba is dirty where your man was told to take care of that, why then are we campaigning for him? that means he has failed already cos he failed to handle his work well.

You don't know how to do campaign, you've been disgracing us here.

Oga, Aba is not dirty and that is the major reason why i was supporting Ikpeazu but you've fallen my hands.

Mind you Rochas is from Ogboko but go to Imo and see what he's doing to Owerri city despite the fact that Owerri is not his home town. So any man from Arochukwu, isukwuato or Ukwa can rebuild Aba if he wishes.

So Jigawa now receives peanut compare to Abia state?

You must be silly, so what is essence of cry of marginalization by Igbos, is like you don't check monthly allocations from the Office of the Accountant General of the federation. Keeping on claiming Abia because you want your state party to rule us.

I wish Otti well but bet me he must dump Apga if he wins tomorrow.

Beside, i don't care who wins. All the aspirants are Abians and i want God to give us someone that will work with utmost sincerity.

mind you abia state is not and never the dirtiest state in the southeast. If it is, what parameters did you use in adjudging? Agreed, aba stinks with dirt yet it dosent make abia state the 'dirtiest' state. Pls criticise constructively. My other bro b2mario should be ignored. Pls lets move forward n ignore him.
B2mario cannot be ignored on Nairaland, cos Nairaland can't do with my absence.

Bro TA Orji failed Aba but that does not mean that Aba is the worst and dirtiest city in SE, you nd I Know the dirtiest city.

I've shown the pics of Umuahia and Aba starting from ariaria to Aba/owerri road with customized13, Rarediamond and Abagworo to change peoples notion about Abia and Aba.

Aba might be neglected for now but it still retain its pride and glory.

I'm an old member on this nairaland though i am not always steady, believe me Anambrarains are the problem of Igboland and are envy of anything good happening in other parts of igboland.

I know that they are looking for a way to derail this beautiful thread.

If Aba and Umuahia managed to be in Anambra, they will receive much praise than what we are accorded today.

Umuahia has been the capital of Owerri province, Biafra and now Abia state while Aba is the most important city in igboland, the most industrious, populous and largest. It was built by all nigerians just like Lagos. All igbos and non igbos helped in the development of Aba especially Abia, Imo, Anambra and Akwa ibom.

Aba name has been spoilt on internet and i've seen it as something very paramount to correct, Aba is not dirty as people think and the city is well planned.

It was Politicians that destroyed Aba image with their sheer politics, look what Ikpeazu2015 is doing here while he should know that it was their Oga, TA Orji that brought shame to Aba.

I'm an old man on Nairaland and I've seen and read many things about Aba and Abia state. Pride apart, Abia region starting from the colonial era to today has contributed to the upliftment of igboland in terms of politics, social , commerce and industry. Abia, imo and Anambra are the pride of igboland and Abians are the 1st Igbos to participated actively in Nigeria politics so i don't know why some section of people are bringing us to dust just because of perceived pride.

I'm always truthful with whatever I'm doing in life and i say things the way they are, if I'm no longer needed on Nairaland i will leave because i have many things to border with not just Nairaland problem.

I have posted Aba pics here and if anyone doubt them let them come and get the 1st class information by themselves. Lets not think that some people are better than us just because they are Comfortable leaving in a worst environment.

Anambrarains who always like to criticize other igbo states, what is the conditions of their state. Big thanks to Obiano who's now giving the state a facelift.
