PoliticsRe: The Truth About Fashola's Success by babapupa: 12:53am On Dec 22, 2012
wirinet: I had been saying this for the past couple of years, but every body was caught in the fad. Fashola is 90% propaganda and 10% actual work. He has a formidable propaganda machine. So the masses are easily bought over with all the noise of performance.

It is a joke for people to call Fashola a brilliant administrator. What were his administrative antecedents before he became a governor? He was simply a chief of staff for a few years. Prior to becoming a governor, Fashola never held an administrative position in his life. So there must be something else Tinubu saw in Fashola to impose him as governor of lagos.

We fashola's antagonists only ask for one simple thing of protagonists, show us one new project initiated, funded and completed by governor Fashola in his six odd years as governor and you would have shamed us.

Then we should now compare the performance of Fashola to past Governors of lagos state and see if he can be said to rate among the best. Ie Tinubu, Marwa, Rasaki, Otedola, Jakande. I want to know which governor touched more lives.
....but we have shamed you with pictures so what more do you want us to shame you with?

The only reason why you losers are always losing sleep over Fashola is because his work is putting your lazy and do nothing village leaders to shame, he's calling them dullards and you are also upset that Lagos is leaving you behind.

Now, apart from painting roundabouts, can you please show us what your village leaders have initiated and completed and even GEJ sef if you get any to show us..

thelastPope: Big question for these ACN trolls on NL

If Fashola is such a big success in Lagos like their media want us to believe, why did ACN loose several LGAs in the last LGA election to PDP and ACN had to rig it?

SMH at the level of propaganda from these peeps!

If you want to be sincere, then you have to talk in specifics, not this generalised successes you lot talk about.

What has he achieved in:

Roads: Its about six years now and Fashola cannot point to one major new road built in Lagos. I am still wondering where Lagos allocations go. It is funny that every time some credit is giving to Lagos in terms of facility and infrastructure, some of these ACN peeps quickly shout "Fashola is working" as if the facilities are built by Fashola. Lagos has become a business city powered fully by the private sector. All the infrastructures we enjoy in Lagos are built by the private sector, not Fashola. From the cinemas to shoprite to the various entertainment centers et al. I dont understand how that is Fashola working. Propaganda of course. After adding extra lanes to Lekki, he introduced toll gates to a residential area. I mean, that is a first again in Nigeria. Toll gates in a residential area? Some people go from Lekki area to main VI like 5 times daily and back and they have to pay toll fees each time they pass the road. And when the residents protest peacefully, the response, just like the LASU one, is a bruttal assault by his thugs in alliance with the police. He attacked hapless old men on a peaceful protest, yet some pumpkin heads here want us to believe he is a sane and civil guy. If it was GEJ that bruttalized people like that, these same political and tribal jingoist would not let us hear word on NL! Ridiculous to say the least!

Water ways: This is just a funny one. Promises and more promises right from Tinubu's time. Nothing has even left the ground. Total failure here. Nothing to talk about

Transportation: This to me should have been his biggest achievement, but the ban of Okada has rubbushed it. How? The ban of okada has shown that the BRT project is a failure. Totally inadequate. Doesnt even come close to solving half the problem of Lagos transportation. Now, people are trekking like real villagers that Fashola has turned them into and they are swearing for him while they trek. Lagos is now total chaos. The traffic has escalated like times 4. What Okada ban was supposed to achieve, has turn into a total disaster. 3 to 5 hours now to go from Ikeja to VI or back, gauranteed! The traffic is alraming now! No transport on the road. People wait at the busstop for 2,3 hours trying to get a bus or keke. That is the legacy of a failed administrator who knows nothing of how to manage a metropolitan city. He thinks you can just wave a magic wand and scare everyone into submission. And some propaganda crew here wants us to believe he can manage Nigeria. He tops it up with the enactment of the Lagos traffic law 2012. A draconian law that looks like it was written by arrogant baby lawyers. I have read and re-read the law and it makes for a fine comic relief. many of the laws there will not stand a challenge in court. They are as draconian as it gets and many parts of that law contradicts the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria. The late Gani would have made a piece meal of it!

Lagos to get 60 ferries as Fashola inspects prototype in Australia

History was made in Brisbane, Queensland in Australia on Thursday as Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) pushed ahead with another electoral promise of accelerating inter-modal transportation through the extensive use of the state’s water-ways when he witnessed the signing of the Ferry Manufacturing Agreement for the state between Aluminium Boats Company of Brisbane, Australia and a consortium of water transportation practitioners, Eko Water Buses Limited.

The agreement signing event, which was preceded by an inspection and a ride on one of the prototype ferries, being manufactured for the state, by Governor Fashola and his entourage, was for the initial batch of 60 ferries each with a 200-passenger ca-pacity to be deployed on various routes.

According to sources, the ferries are like the water buses because of their passenger-carrying capacity.

The inspection and agreement-signing followed a recent Memorandum of Understanding between the Lagos State Government rep-resented by the Private Public Partnerships Office and the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) and the consortium, Eko Water Buses Limited, which aims to deploy one ferry for a pi-lot scheme by July this year. According to the agreement and production schedule, five more of the purpose -built and fully-fitted high capacity ferries will be deployed by December this year making a total of six.

However in the near term and as part of the positive spin offs from the agreement, about 50 Nigerians will benefit from a comprehensive train-ing programme in Marine Operations, Boat Services and Repairs in the expansive boat building facility of Alumini-um Boats Company in Bris-bane, Queensland, Australia as a prelude to the full com-mencement of the ferry ser-vices operations in December.

Governor Fashola and his entourage were received in Brisbane, Queensland by a representative of the Premier of Queensland, the Treasurer and Minister for Trade, Mr Tim Nicholls, the top management of Alu-minium Boats Company of Australia including its Chief Executive Officer, Mr Stuart Pascoe and General Manager, Mr Tommy Ericson as well as representatives of the consortium, Eko Wa-ter Buses Limited led by its Chief Operating Officer, Mr Muyiwa Omololu and their technical partners including Mr John Waterhouse and Captain Elgin Mckilop.

Health Care: This one is just humorous. Fashola and ACN in 13 years havent built one new hospital for Lagos. Still the old LUTH and general hospital. No change. Instead, they are praising him for renovating small 30 by 30 maternity centers. centers that where even renovated by MTN foundation, with their sign post conspiciously displayed. His only achievement here was to sack 788 doctors in one day. That is one of the worst administrative blunders in the history of Nigeria. I laughed when I read a previous post that he is a great administrator! Great administrator? Someone whose solution to doctors strike was to sack the whole doctors in the state? Ha! Is that how he will rule Nigeria? The presidential guard will pursue him back to Lagos! lol! If he cannot manage such crisis in one state of Nigeria, how will he manage Nigeria? Those who call GEJ clueless forget that he has continued to manage crisis after crisis and
continues to pull everyone along. Love him or hate him, he has continued to hold everything together from North to south.

Lagos To Become Leading Heart Transplant Centre -Fashola

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Monday declared that Lagos would become the leading referral centre for kidney, heart transplant and all kidney related diseases early next year.

Governor Fashola who spoke when he received participants in the Kidney Rejoice Health Walk at the open fields of Lagos House, Alausa Ikeja said this would be possible from the end of the first quarter of next year when work is completed on the Specialist Hospital being constructed in Gbagada, adding that the staff and consultants that would manage the facility are being recruited.

The Governor explained that there is a lot of work going on there at the moment adding that the future lies there for all medical students, and doctors and nurses in the State.

“We know that you have the capacity. We also want to bring back as many of our expert doctors, nurses who have left the country as a result of frustration.

“We are spending a considerable amount of money sponsoring people abroad to United States, United Kingdom and India for kidney transplant and replacement.

“We have also noticed that they are going to environments where their families are not immediately around them. They are also taking food after surgery that is not what they may have wanted to eat which contributes substantially to the healing process.

“We also see that it is our economy that is losing and that is why our government has decided that it will locate the kidney and heart transplant facility in Lagos and that is exactly what is going on now at Gbagada”, the Governor said.

Governor Fashola reiterated that it is the belief of the administration that such a first class facility is the best asset that it can give to its nurses and doctors because they have the skills but only need an opportunity to practice the skills.

While commending Nollywood artistes who also participated in the Health Walk, for spreading positive messages in millions of homes through their films, Governor Fashola urged them to see it as an opportunity to work with the Ministry of Health to see the content of the kidney, hypertension and diabetes screening programme which the Government has committed to in the last three years.

He said the programme has screened thousands of patients across the State giving treatment where necessary but using advocacy as the most powerful tool that can help prevent the two main diseases or make it manageable when contracted.

“There is no reason why a diabetes patient should not live a useful, active and normal life if the right management therapy is put in place. Some of the things that we consider as being status significance are in fact things that hurt us, Governor Fashola said.

He called on the Nollywood artistes to consider producing what he called a docu-drama that would help in strengthening the advocacy on the need to exercise regularly, moderation in the kind of food people eat, saying such a production in English, Yoruba, Hausa and Pidgin would go a long way in sensitizing the people.

He promised that the state would provide some assistance to support the production of the docu-drama, adding that this represents one of the ways they can help to spread the message about why people should change some of the life choices they make.

The Governor also advised against the use of bleaching creams saying the black skin has been particularly adapted to suit where Africans are located., “We should not try to be anybody else”, he advised.

Governor Fashola said in recognition of these health problems which are fast becoming a global problem, his administration is building parks and sports centres to allow the people live an active life.
He also cautioned against the conversion of pedestrian walkways into markets, stressing that Lagos is definitive about building new roads that have walkways as it would engender the culture of people taking a walk in their neighbourhoods.

A Platinum Humanity Award was presented to Governor Fashola by the coordinator of the Kidney Rejoice programme through the President of the Campaign for Democracy, Dr (Mrs.)Joe Okei Odumakin.

Speaking on the award Dr Okei- Odumakin said Governor Fashola was the first Governor in Nigeria that she would be presenting an award to.

She described Governor Fashola as action Governor as this is evident from what anyone who takes a trip round Lagos would observe as “action speaks louder than words”.

Education: Lagos schools are worse of today than they were 10 years ago. Dilapidated structures everywhere with not enough teachers and it isnt even free because the students still pay all sorts of fees. In Lagos, it is only the very poor who cant afford private schools that send their children to government schools. In Benin city, which is ironically another ACN state and in which the governor has done less time than Fashola, It is the other way around. People are widthdrawing their children from private schools and sending them to public schools because the public schools are great. Fashola is the only governor in Nigeria and in the history of Nigeria as far as I can recall, that has increased schools fees by over 1000%. He increased LASU school fees from 25k to 250k and as much as 300k for some courses. This is not even imaginable. It is as diabolical it gets. Then when the students protests, he sends in bruttal policemen to chase them away. Many have had to drop out from school because they cant afford it. This is the same guy who said the FG was too high handed by sending the army to Ojota

Fashola at Methodist Church Confab

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Thursday declared open the 43rd/8th Bi-ennial Conference of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, declaring that the unity of the nation and state will continue to be forged on tolerance, peaceful co-existence, mutuality of respect for faith and ethnic belief. Governor Fashola who spoke at the Hoare's Memorial Methodist Cathedral Yaba, where Christian leaders from the Methodist Church and other Christian faithful gathered said these conditions represent the sense in which the nation can harness the diversity that really exist in the nation. "If God wanted all of us to be the same, or wanted all of us to speak the same language, or have the same colour, he could have done so, but if he chose to make us different from that difference, then we can find fraternity and brotherhood and build a great nation", the Governor said.

Fashola, Wife Fete Children At End of Year Party, Charges Them To Be Studious

Dec 18, 2012 - Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and his wife, Dame Emmanuella Abimbola Fashola on Tuesday hosted children at the 2012 End of Year Party with Governor Fashola enjoining the children to continue to study hard and be obedient students.

The Governor who spoke at the open grounds of Lagos House, Ikeja before a large gathering of very happy and enthusiastic children who were having fun also thanked the children for abiding by his advice to them last year that they should be up and doing in their studies.

He also commended teachers in the State for imparting knowledge to the students, adding that the results are already becoming evident in results being turned out at the school certificate examinations

He added that from the 2011 results when only 19percent of the students who sat for the exams passed with five credits including Mathematics and English, it has moved to 39.8 percent in 2012.

He stated that the improvement is only indicative of the fact that the administration is moving in the right direction just as the government is also improving the quality of schools, training of teachers as well as an improvement of hospitals and healthcare.

The Governor also charged all the mothers at the ceremony to become the Ambassador of the State by helping to look after the children and ensuring that for those who have not been immunized against the child killer diseases, they are taken for immunization.

He also acknowledged the contributions of public servants who assist the government in serving the citizenry, the Policemen who look after the people and make everyone safe, the firemen who keep Lagos safe and all the street sweepers who keep Lagos clean.

Governor Fashola appealed to all those who do not pay their taxes to do so in order to allow the children have more opportunities for recreation, to learn in the schools and more drugs in the public hospitals.

Speaking earlier, the First Lady, Dame Emmanuella Abimbola Fashola charged the children to continue to be obedient children and pray for their parents and the nation at large so that the country can continue to be peaceful.

She wished all the children and their parents a peaceful and wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year and hundreds of children drawn from across the state.

The end of year party was attended by the wife of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mrs Mayowa Ikuforiji, members of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials and hundreds of children from across the State.

State of Osun to send 50 graduates to Germany

Nigeria’s state of Osun has concluded plans to send no fewer than 50 members of the state’s Youth Empowerment Scheme (OYES), who are graduates, on a trip to Germany where they will be trained in mechanised farming for 18 months.

The Coordinator of the scheme in the state in Western Nigeria, Mr Eniibukun Oyewole, disclosed this on Thursday in Osogbo.

Oyewole said the gesture was aimed at giving adequate and qualitative training to the youths to enable them to practise mechanised farming.

“The beneficiaries will be able to train other youths when they return and put into practice farming skills that will boost food production in the state and the country at large,’’ he stated.

He further said that the overseas training was to motivate and encourage youths in the practice of agriculture that had become unpopular.

On the selection of the participants, Oyewole stated that only degree and HND holders in agriculture-related courses were selected for the training.

He said the state government in the last two years had sponsored some youths in batches to Cuba and India for overseas training in different vocations.

“The present administration in the state is working toward empowering every youth in all the nook and crannies of the state so that the society will be free of social vices associated with unemploymen,’’ he said.

Oyewole said preparations for the take off of the beneficiaries to Germany had been concluded while the training would commence in early 2013

Hopefully, every member of your family (including you worthless maggot) would perish in a vehicle accident. Perhaps then, your representatives in LASG would seriously consider the option of banning vehicles too.
So, just because people die in car accidents, we should not regulate okada, we should look the other way while they kill lagosians and turn our hospitals into okada hospitals, we should let them escape regulations that even cars and other modes of transportation abide by, we should let okada disobey our laws and dictate to us, we should let them go on a rampage and destroy public property, we should open up our doors to all the banned okada from every corner of Nigeria and outside Nigeria.?

See how dumb and ridiculous you sound? Do you even have a brain.

I just pray people like you are not put in charge of anything talk less human live.

BTW, why not just start your own okada business with your family and kill each other out of our way, crooked and dubious people like you shouldn't be part of any sane community.
PoliticsRe: Activists Arrested During Okada-Riders Protest by babapupa: 8:48pm On Dec 20, 2012
pro01: "Progress" as defined by whom? The minority? Such arrogance on the part of the privileged minority is the basis for some of the thoughtless anti-people policies governments introduce.

Is your definition of "progress" objective or subjective? In any case, how is it progress to merely ban something that provides value to millions of people, without providing better alternatives?

From Molue to BRT buses - that is progress (although the BRT buses have since degenerated to Molues, in typical Nigerian fashion)
From analogue cellular phones to GSM technology - that is progress.
From unreliable post-paid meters to pre-paid meters - that is progress.

BUT. . .from Okadas to trekking - is that progress? Has the government introduced sufficient and affordable shuttle buses/mini-cabs for inner city, short-haul transportation? Have the structures been put in place to encourage private operators to provide these services? If the government claims that it is working towards these ends, does it make sense to first ban an existing problem-solver and then run from pillar to post in search of alternative solutions thereafter? What does the government expect millions of poor Lagosians to do in the interim? Trek in the sun and rain?

The fact is that these Okada guys provide a service that millions of people require; they fulfil an important need. If there were better alternatives for fulfilling this need, then of course okadas would die a natural death. The challenge for a sensible government is to work towards finding such alternatives first, rather than settle for the lazy option of banning okadas.

The best way of evaluating this issue for a more balanced understanding is to assume that you do not own a car and cannot afford the exorbitant taxi fares charged by Lagos cabs. If you evaluate this issue from the perspective of someone that does not need okadas, you would never understand it.
Is death, injury and lawlessness part of the services people need from okada.? Come back with this nonsense essay after losing a member of your family to okada and talk to us about your precious okada services.

Tolexander: eediot! Chinua achebe won more awards than Wole Soyinka but couldn't win the nobel prize which is the highest? Let me Liberate u from ur ignorance using an olympic standard. If a country won 1gold medal and another country won 1million silver medals, the country with just 1 gold medal would be ranked higher than the country with 1million silver medals .
Thank me for that!
The universal concept of quality over quantity is foreign to them. Their logic is always upside down ....

delors: When you have a headache...is cutting off the head the solution? No! Be informed people...those saying the ban is a welcome development are being myopic...extremely myopic. Lagos is not London, not Toronto, not Tokyo, not Durban...every mega city is unique and different. in China, autorickshaw is being used as a inter-street transit, same in Japan. In Toronto, street cars (train on streets) are used as inter-street transit because of the population. Now, a project to build underground and overhead interstreet trains are nearly completed. in Venice, because of the water streets, boats are used as interstreet transits. Okadas are used in Lagos because of Lagos' peculiar transport system.

Banning okada in Lagos is a lazy way out of the transport system in Lagos. There are better ways to deal with the transport system. Tell me, has banning okada eased transport in Lagos? Traffic gridlock at Eko bridge, at Barracks en route Ojuelegba, at Iyana Iba enroute Okoko, at Obalende, at Ijaye? No! I think, contrary to pubic opinion, the Lagos state government took the easy way out of the problem creating more problems for the masses. Ina place where job is hard to come by, u forcfully snatched jobs from people in thousands...many okada riders are graduates conditioned by the situation of the country, many supply families with food and necessities with the okada business.

A responsive government would do a comprehensie cost benefit analysis of such a situation before embarking on such...Lagos is no man's land. If anything, the Benins (Edos) are the legitimate owners but it is now everybody's land...Fashola doesnt sound like a Lagos name (should be from Osun), so all those saying people should go back to theri villages should put on their thinking caps. If everybody went to their villages from Lagos, then Lagos would become an isolated geographical expression. smiley

In other countries, when there is a business where government makes revenue from, or it illegal but people tend to still do it, the government devise a means to legalise it and make more revenue from it. In Canada, bribing politicians or policy makers to influence policies is called 'lobbying', and in 2006, the government created the Department of Lobbying meant to ensure that lobbying activities are done within the scope of the law...and the government makes profit from it. Same with alcohol consumption, if u must drink, u must tender ur ID to show u r 18+...not banning the sale of alcohol, or the act of 'lobbying'...banning OKADA IN LAGS IS A WEAK, MYOPIC, UNINFORMED, ARCHAIC, UNFAIR, policy and should be protested. (Thanks to Dr. Fashina, aka Jingo, for leading the protest this time. e knows whassap)
This is definitely the dumbest, daftest and irresponsible gutter trash ever. It's insane and ridiculous how many of you money hungry and misguided people equate everything with money and revenue.

This is a matter of public safety and security, this is a needed approach to prevent needless deaths and injuries, this is the government saying we can do better than looking the other way while people die and lose limbs everyday because of irresponsible and lawless activities of OKADA.

Only irresponsible people and governments do cost analysis and bet on money instead of the people they campaigned to serve and protect, only myopic people like you allow and tolerate lawlessness and needless deaths because of money.

How much is your life worth?
