my take on this is that even though most of the things said about Nigeria are true, My question is "are they the only things that happen in Nigeria?", Surely Not!!! They should also say the good things that abound in nigeria to invest in for example. there is no complete good or bad country in the world, so they should balance the equation, Nigeria does not represent everything bad for God's sake. At least if its so bad we would not be seeing all sorts of ppl from chinese, arabians, indians, etc here, they have come to get something good. Our Govt too has to do the neccesarry like provide electricity, good roads, security etc to make us avoid these embarrasments.

@larez

u are bragging about an airport an akwa ibomite built, shame on you, your very shallow brain has forgotten already the area boys of calabar, that were harrassing people in the past. Akwa Ibom is already buiding an Airport,it will soon be commisioned. Attah has no bussiness in this matter, the most important thing is that the Airport is being built, then we will know whomis using the calabar airport you are bragging about.Sorry i see you areliving in utopia
PoliticsRe: South Korea's Abandoned Airports: A Warning To Nigerian State Governors by BabaTony: 2:47pm On May 23, 2009
That an idiotic take on what this argument has been about, if I may say so! There is difference between building airports and building schools, hospitals and the lot. If you do not understand why you cannot put all those together in this, then may I suggest we end this with you accepting that I will never see it the way you probably NEED it to be seen at all cost.
No ooooooo shocked shocked shocked, there is not, it is waste of public funds, we had unical, why build uniuyo, we also has metropolitan hotel why build le meridien,we had crbc, why build akbc huh huh huh, let me tell you, akwa ibom having these infrastructure has boosted the number of people having access to professional experience on the jobs over the years, the airport is not an exception,by thetime planes are being repaired there, the number of people that will have acces to the technology will increase. The proposed seaport will be a very big boost.i know you dont like any developmentin Akwa ibom ,the rest of us like it. thanks cheesy cheesy cheesy
PoliticsRe: South Korea's Abandoned Airports: A Warning To Nigerian State Governors by BabaTony: 2:26pm On May 23, 2009
Going by all your aguements, i dont think akwa ibom would have built anything, univerities, hospitals, and tv stations, etc because b4 now we had all these within reach from other states.that wont work!!!!!i will say it again its for economic and skills developments.period!!!!
PoliticsRe: South Korea's Abandoned Airports: A Warning To Nigerian State Governors by BabaTony: 2:00pm On May 23, 2009
u cannot compare where u stayed with akwaibom, akwa ibom needs an airport period!!!!! Strictly for economic reasons.it is already built anyway,so please next time u come dont use it wink wink wink

Seaports and Airports have a history of sparking off economic development ,go and find out!!!!
PoliticsRe: South Korea's Abandoned Airports: A Warning To Nigerian State Governors by BabaTony: 1:44pm On May 23, 2009
There is something very serene and beautiful about Calabar. And there is a very big contrast once you cross that bridge into Akwa Ibom which seems to be like a den of rogues. Unlike Calabar, people in Akwa Ibom seem less polite and very aggressive. One has to immediately dominate in Akwa Ibom or else they will attempt to step all over you.
Why r u comparing Cross river created in 1976 with Akwa ibom created in 1987,its just like comparing port harcourt with yenogoa, very unfair, calabar you are praising today is what it is today because of the infrastructure built long ago by akwa ibomites, from the governors down to the civil sertvants, back then they were labelled rogues by people like you that never see anything good in akwa ibom people (remember clement isong, uj esuene). just wait for the akwaibom airport to be complete, then u will know what the akwa ibom communmity is contributing to the calabar economy, rome was not built in a day ,so will uyo or akwa ibom not be like calabar immediately, but meanwhile apart from calabar ,can u boast of any other town in cross river.Absolutely none!!!!!!. In akwa ibom u have eket, ikot ekpene, oron, abak etc, it just needs time and these cities will integrate into a large economic block. you said akwa ibom people are less polite, and aggressive, we need these two to drive away marginalisation from any quarters and a strong spirit to develop our state.if you dont like it stay in calabar!!!!! wink

i would like to ask all of you to compare the distance between eket or ikot abasi to calabar and the distance between these places and akwa ibom airport, be reminded akwa ibom is NOT a one city state, other cies have comsiderable population. you will appreciate why akwa ibom needs an airport, these are the economic hubs of the state because of ALSCON and Exxonmobil. we will not be intimidated by anybody not to develop if we can. i can remember vividly when attah tried to build the 5 star hotel at nwaniba, a lot of ignorant people were crying foul, today, the whole of that axis has become the choice location for estate develpers, jobs are created, that i say is the power of critical infrastructure.take it or leave it, i know most of you on this forum have lodge there. you might call it elistist but i tell you the development will trikkle down to everybody either directlt or indirectly.Akwa Ibom will there!!!! cheesy cheesy cheesy
PoliticsRe: South Korea's Abandoned Airports: A Warning To Nigerian State Governors by BabaTony: 4:58pm On May 22, 2009
@ kobojunkie

u see Akwa ibom has a lot of potentials and the state needs critical infrastructure, key infrastructure that encourages investors to invest in the state. the economy of the state is being operated in port harcout and calabar leaving the state at the mercy of the crumbs that trickle in, so the truth is  that those things have to be built. Thank God the present government in the state is really serious in the provision of roads in the state. people are talking of obudu cattle ranch and all that , the reason is because , govt provided the infrasturcture long time ago, at obudu, we have the bebi airstrip and a good hotel without these odu would not be what it is today, so please i would like people to leave akwa ibom state alone, it is a very peculiar state, we the people were with cross river state they developed the facilities there, so now it time to build their own where they can acces it at will and use it to propell the economy of the place, today it is the highest producer of oil, and they  cannot even boast of an airport. That distance to calabar is far for an investor who needs to get his goods or raw material or business trips done on time. Akwa Ibom has to move forward, i am sorry we cant wait.
PoliticsRe: South Korea's Abandoned Airports: A Warning To Nigerian State Governors by BabaTony: 4:18pm On May 22, 2009
i can see most of these people writing things dont even know  or gone to these places they are criticizing, i cannot speak for others but the Akwa Ibom International Airport, it is the best thing that can happen to the state, i read someone misinforming this forum that the distance btween uyo and calabar airport is the same as from uyo to the ibom airport, big lie, get the facts stright now Uyo to calabar airport is not less that 80 km by road, uyo to the ibom airport is only 26 km.(compare the difference) people should not be saying what they do not know. Secondly most of the paeesgers using the calabar airport are akwa ibom people, the stress of travelling from calabar to uyo is stress  not less that 1hr 30 mins using a very good car (i use it a lot that is why i know), an airport in akwa ibom will help the state to get things to the state quicker. One thing that is very peculiar about this Airport is that it comes complete with a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) Facility, the first in west africa , the other two in Africa is at South Africa and ethiopia, most people don't know this, that is what is delaying the project up till now, all the facilities have to be imported and we know it takes time.

Another project is worth commending is the Akwa Ibom Seaport at Ibaka, u see that calabr port will continue to remain in its state because the water level is not deep, where the port is situated is where where sand is being deposited from upstream, that is the reason it needs dredging all the time. This is very sad but it is the truth, so if the ibaka seaport is constructed, this will revive the business activities in the southern tip of nigeria  once again. it will serve so many states like Akwa ibom, Cross river, abia, imo , anambre and others. Ibaka is a very natural seaport with the deepest water level in nigeria, it needs NO dredging. that was what informed the siting of the Nigeria Maritime Academy in Oron quite close by.

The People of Akwa Ibom and Nigeria by extension cannot wait to have these projects completed and put to use

Some projects in Nigeria unfortunately are sited majorly especially at the federal level due to politics, but certainly not these two i have listed above.

PoliticsRe: Lagos Plans New Independent Power Project by BabaTony: 8:45am On Mar 12, 2009
Fashola's IPP is not really a novel idea, some states in the past have started something like this , what we want to see is power generation, i know of Akwa Ibom, the IPP there is complete and ready to be fired up this month. The delay which is always the problem  in Nigeria is the supply of gas from NGC, dont forget about the Niger Delta crisis and most importantly our very corrupt govt officials at NNPC who dont want to see anything good from this country. Secondly, is the problem with our God forsaken and corrupt  NEPA (abi na PHCN) who cannot gaurantee distribution to the state generating the power since everything is being directed into the National grid.

i pray Fashola succeeds in building the plant first, then we try how to solve other teething problem facing us in this our "center controls all" Nigeria.

PoliticsRe: Commercial Oil Discovery In Lagos: Matters Arising by BabaTony: 4:03pm On Feb 26, 2009
This does not call for any jubilation at all, this is not the first oil dicovery in Nigeria, neither will it be the last. Having said that, the only matter that will arise is what we are facing in the niger Delta which is as follows:
1. Environmental Degradation cry cry cry
2. NNPC will not be able to account for oil produced, as it is happening now wink wink wink.
3. Continuous bunkuring of that oil by the politicians("big boys"wink around. wink wink wink
4. Community agitation to be stakeholders in the production of oil. angry angry angry
5. Some Communuity chiefs will be settled appropraitely, which in turn will empower some youths(potential MEND) to maintain peace in the community
6. The youths become disatified with the peanuts from the chiefs, then partake in the bunkuring by themselves and graduate to the full fledge MEND huh huh huh
7. Total collapse of law and order. cry
8. Niger Delta is replicated in Lagos state, maybe the oil companies will then relocate to Abuja. cheesy cheesy cheesy

What goes around , comes around. cheesy cheesy cheesy

We have to make judicious use of what we have and diversify and not jubilate that we have dicovered another deposit of oil, which is the only source of revenue for the country. sad sad sad
EducationRe: Look Who Is Going To School In Nigeria: The Statistics May Surprise You by BabaTony: 12:11pm On Feb 25, 2009
i have gone thru this thread, and i seems to have some questions to ask:

1. Are the statistics reeled out here based on the states of origin of the candidates or states where the students where registered?
2. Should the statistics be based on number of candidates or the percentage of the total population of that state or tribe?
3. Will this arguement move us in  Nigeria forwad or backward?
CareerRe: What Next After A 3rd Class From University? by BabaTony: 4:53pm On Feb 23, 2009
i have this to say, not all third class srudents are going to fail, some , especially those who were victims of our shameful educational system and are sharp will surely make it.They can go for a post graduate diploma, equip yourself with other skills , e.g IT, and other business skills as mentioned here by some people, know the right people, that is move with people that can help you get one thing or the other done, Almighty God who is in heaven will surely open dorrs of success, success is not about degrees neither grades, but about preparation + Opportunity, after all we have all seen people who have never cross the university gates make millions on a daily basis. A univeristy Degree is not equal to money , if not there wouldnt be so many jobless youths in nigeria today, because there are a lot of masters,PGD,1st, and 2nd class graduates around. so my my conclusion is that THIRD CLASS GRADUATES CAN MAKE IT IN LIFE OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!!!!!!! PERIOD.

Jokes EtcObama Vs Intelligent Girl by BabaTony(op): 11:26am On Feb 17, 2009
Barack Obama was seated next to a little girl on an airplane trip back to Washington. He turned to her and said, “Let’s talk. I’ve heard that flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger.”
The little girl, who had just opened her book, closed it slowly and said to Obama, “What would you like to talk about?”
“Oh, I don’t know,” said Obama. “How about What Changes I Should Make To America?” and he smiles.
“OK,” she says. “That could be an interesting topic. But let me ask you a question first. A horse, a cow, and a deer all eat the same stuff - grass. Yet a deer excretes little pellets, while a cow turns out a flat patty, and a horse produces clumps of dried grass. Why do you suppose that is?”
Obama, visibly surprised by the little girl’s intelligence, thinks about it for a second and finally says, “Hmmm, I have no idea.”
To which the little girl replies, “Do you really feel qualified to change America when you don’t know shit?”

PoliticsRe: Akwa Ibom Carol Night That Broke The Guiness World Book Of Record by BabaTony: 10:17am On Jan 23, 2009
Akwa ibom and nigeria in general is on the guiness book of records again, i have seen many dumb things nationals of the so called "developed" nations have done to enter the book of records, and those things have nothing to do with their country's national development, Akwa ibom assembled 9300 people in one place to the glory of God and the enjoyment of people who came to listen, i think we should give credit to what people come up with ideas like this in nigeria and not condemn anything we try to do, however, it was not a govt idea, govt only supported a private initiative and it worked. Lastly, Akwa Ibom will soon become a tourist destination like its sister state cross river. Nigeria is changing though at a snail place but i believe that one day , WE CAN, all you people who think WE CAN"T, stay abroad and never come back but don't interfer with our country because you don't belong here.

I LOVE MY COUNTRY cheesy

TravelRe: Decongesting Lagos: Any Suggestions? by BabaTony(op): 12:44pm On Oct 20, 2008
Improving the transportation system (land and water) is one way of reducing traffic but , i think it is a short term solution to the problem, even if the transpotation system is perfect, and the rest of the country is not developed we will be wasting our time because in the long run (10-20 years to come) the 140 million people will move into lagos eventually to look for the greener pastures or should i say better life wink wink wink, we all know the consequences, it is this same problem that is taking our brothers out of the country to europe and America, and believe you me, if not for visas, those places would surely be congested with Nigerians or Africans in general (who no like better?). so what we have to do is make sure our leaders (Federal , State and local govts and the private sector) provide those infrastructure that are taking people to lagos in the different states. lagos will still be the commercial (or show biz) capital of Nigeria. take america for example, different cities are known for diferent things, New york-Commerce, Michigan -Automobile,Texas -oil and gas, nevada-Gambling, Florida- fun at the beaches etc, the list is inehaustible, You don't have to live in Washington to survive in the US, visiting washington maybe for tourism reasons(a money spinner on its own), the same with other cities, i think we should wake up and put this country right, and Lagos, Jos, Owerri, Kano, Port harcourt, Uyo, ibadan, ,Enugu, calabar, Warri, maidugri etc will be places where jobs can be created. This will relieve lagos of this congestion for ever because people will have choices!!!

Secondly,I thought the introduction of Information Technology (IT) will help us in this country, but it seems people are not maximising it's use. most of the offices we have in lagos dont have any bussiness being in lagos, e.g. take the oil and gas companies, not even a single oil well is situated in lagos so they don't NEED to be here, but all the multinationals have their headquarters in lagos (even before the advent of the millitants in the Niger delta), they all come with the servicing companies, what they should have are just liason offices, with few staffs, i think that could have helped us, the same goes for other sectors of the ecomomy, ibadan should be the cocoa processing capital of nigeria, etc. i won't be suprised if we start seeing "Alimajiri's" on the streets of lagos tommorowDid i hear somebody say they are already arriving?. i really thank God for giving General Muritala Mohammed the wisdom to move the political capital of Nigeria to Abuja, lagos would have been a big mess!! What we have today would have been just a child's play. wink wink wink wink wink
