Hmmm where do I start? Nairaland has been so so helpful especially with regards to freelancing. After School I was curious as to how I could earn online since I've heard people talk about how possible it is to work online and be paid.

I got my first freelance opportunity here on Nairaland. I started reading online about sites that could pay when one works online, with the knowldege I was able to open an account on fiverr and started from there. I have also gotten a lot of freelance gig Right here on Nairaland. Thanks to nairaland and those who gave me an opportunity to work with them.
That's nice to know. I'm happy for you for being one of the many who have benefited from this forum.
And if you don't mind me asking, what is your niche in freelancing?
I'm just upcoming and I'm looking into copywriting and transcription or things that won't take much of my time because I need to shuffle them with school work. I think I might get some education from you.
However, after my research I have decided to go with Upwork. I find it more open than fiverr and there's a ton of information out there that can help me get started.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Thanks

I found out about NL just last month! I was reading the news about how an online forum called NL is a good litmus test for potentially shady job interviews. I googled and found NL, a faceless forum with a thread for almost any topic imaginable. You can actually have intelligent discussions which is a far cry from FB, Instagram and all those other social media platforms. Hubby is skeptical and says to watch out for perverts, but I havent met any yet...everyone has been very respectful towards me, so far. The forum is entertaining and enlightening and I wish I had found it sooner.
You are welcome
I hope you continue to enjoy the regards you've been given here.

This place has its bad eggs, they will surely come even when they weren't invited. But this place has a lot of good to offer than the other side of it

Nairaland GeneralHow Did You Learn About Nairaland For The First Time? by Babtunz(op): 2:17am On Jun 04, 2021
Here's a fun and an engaging question I'd like to ask all Nairalanders.

How did you learn about this platform the very first time?
Can you remember the very first time you visited this website?

Did you learn about it in an advert, a Facebook post, Twitter or someone referred you here?

I'm asking this because I can't forget how I learned about this platform.

To answer the question, I'd go first...

I came across this platform sometime between 2015 and 2016.
I was a secondary school finalist then, and the person I lived with happened to be an IT expert, he's always on his laptop and then I'd see him scrolling down a site with green text almost everyday. I was interested in knowing what's he's doing here and what really caught my eyes was the name of the site. NAIRALAND. What could this site be? I always wondered and I memorized the name from there. I think what helped is the name of the platform, what could he be doing on a site named NAIRALAND? I was particularly interested about the 'Naira' part because then I thought this platform teaches people how to make money (well, it does).

At that time I didn't have a phone of my own and I couldn't create an account, all I do was just borrow phones to view the site as a guest. I got my own phone after secondary school and since then, I've been an active member of this platform.

And jsyk, I am a silent reader of the Travel section (you probably know why, lol) it's one of my favorite parts of this place. Another favorite section of mine on this platform is the Programming section grin

The information and knowledge that I have gotten from this place is invaluable, and I'm grateful to the creator and management for their efforts.

From my observations, I think the management needs to work more on the marketing of this site, this platform isn't popular as it should be. This place should be the frontpage of most Nigerians ( is it Uraniums? grin) on the internet.

I hope to see this site become really popular as much as I hope it would.

Woah, that's a lot...
Can you share your own story with us? How did you get here? cheesy

ProgrammingRe: Why Are Females Not Interested In IT?( Esp In Nigeria) by Babtunz: 9:16am On Jun 03, 2021
I don't want to sound condescending but most of the females I know are just not ready for these things, they'd rather waste their time on things that add no value to the life. Some will tell you they have no data subscription yet you will find them on all social platforms wasting their precious time. I also know a few who are passionate about tech but they lack the resources.
I think the problem has to do with their mindset or culture like someone mentioned above, they think tech is for guys and honestly tech benefits the females the most. A lot of females that I know who are in this business are all making it big. I don't know how we're gonna do it to convince them to drop their nonchalant mindset and focus on their future.
Many think the men are supposed to be the cross bearer, see, if you don't struggle for yourself nowadays, the men of nowadays are ready to use you and dump you if you have nothing to offer. It is better late than never, you can start creating a future for yourself and tech is a very feasible option for you.

Something like this: <img src="animation.gif" alt= "I am an Animation"> huh
That would work in HTML only...

In React, or JSX, you would do something like:
Import MyImage from './images/my image.PNG'

And then use it like so:
<img src={MyImage} alt='my-alt-text'>

Good job there! I like the colors but the second picture looks too clumsy --- too much information is concentrated in that picture. You should try break things down and reduce the amount of info you put on every page. Save this, you did an awesome job with the pallette choice!

Short answer ----- No.
EducationRe: Which Handwork Is Best To Learn For An Undergraduate Student To Be Independent by Babtunz: 7:37am On Nov 30, 2020
Short Answer = Hairstyling.
TL;DR

I'm also a young hairstylist OP, though I started late (mid september).
I should have started earlier when ASUU began their strike but I thought it wouldn't last long.

Nonetheless I still feel lucky because it's never too late.

I'm just 2months+ gone and I can handle clippers pretty well.
I decide to do barbing because it's very lucrative --- people barb their hair a lot, fashion is the new order of the day and I need to make money when I get to schcool, legitimately.

I could have used my tech skills but my present circumstance doesn't allow it so I'm just trying to make ends meet.

Sorry for the long epistle guys but honestly hairstlying is very lucrative.

But OP, I can also advise you look into web designing but then, IT ISN'T A CHILD'S PLAY.
Web development is a rather broad profession, you have got to keep learning new technologies so you won't become outdated (This is what I find interesting and at the same time frustrating about web designing, but we keep pushing).

If you're ready for the great journey and frustrations in web dev. ( I know, you looking at me. Lol) then you're going be successful with hardwork and determination.

I wish you luck brother.

Wait, did he just call himself a human-right activist?

I guess he made a mistake, since he's teamed with the foolish animals in government to drag people fighting for their lives to court, he's no way different from them. They're all DEMENTED ANIMALS.
His case should be taken with a grain of salt!
