Borno Attack: Zulum Was Warned Against Trip, He Ignored Intelligence – Ex-DSS Boss

A former Deputy Director of the Department of State Service (DSS), Dennis Amakiri has reacted to the recent attack on Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum.

Speaking during a special programme on Channels Television to mark Nigeria’s independence anniversary on Thursday, Amakiri said Governor Zulum was warned earlier against moving out.

“The Governor of Borno State was given the intelligence that this road is not safe, he felt he could go,” he said.

“And being the Chief Executive, he ventured out. He was attacked twice. I hope he will not go again because at least they continue telling him, managing him to make sure that he keeps himself safe.”

The ex-DSS boss explained that there are certain procedures to be carried out before Very Important Persons (VIPs) move.

He noted that if such processes are not meant, the public official is exposed to danger, with the masses berating security officials for not sharing intelligence to avert an impending tragedy.

On September 25, a convoy conveying officials of the Borno State Government was attacked near Monguno town killing at least 11 security operatives among others.

The officials were ambushed by Boko Haram terrorists on Friday while they were journeying to Baga, where Governor Babagana Zulum is expected to receive returning IDPs.

Two days later, the governor faced another attack by the insurgents on Baga-Monguno road in Borno.

Govt’s convoy attack, a growing concern
The attack on Friday is the second of its kind, stirring great concern.

Earlier in July, the convoy of the Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, narrowly escaped a terror attack in Baga town.

Governor Zulum had departed Maiduguri, the state capital for the northern part of the state in continuation of a food distribution programme, and a few kilometers to the town, gunmen opened fire on the governor and his entourage.

Distraught by the attack, Zulum confronted the army expressing his disappointment at the inability of the military to rid Baga and environs of insurgents.

“You have been here for over one year now, there are 1,181 soldiers here; if you cannot take over Baga which is less than 5 km from your base, then we should forget about Baga. I will inform the Chief of Army Staff to redeploy the men to other places that they can be useful,” Zulum said.

The governor insisted that there is sabotage in the system that will not allow the insurgency to end in the North East.

He claimed that some elements are trying to frustrate the effort of the government in ending the insurgency, stressing that “President Muhammadu Buhari needs to know the truth”.

The military in reply to Zulum’s claims said the governor’s theories are unfounded.

I have a pretty girl, we started dating 8 months ago, this girl is everything I need in a woman, she is neat, cooks well and humble, so perfect to my taste but she is epileptic.

I have been inviting her to my house for over 5months for her to sleep over in my apartment but she keeps refusing, telling me she has a problem then I later promised her whatever the problem is that I wouldn't abadon her.

She finally came on friday, we ate together and later in the night at 22:38 she started having epilepsy and after about 45mins she woke up and started crying, she told me she has been suffering from epilepsy since Feb 2019 but she hasn't been to the hospital due to financial issues.

So please can we find drug for nocturnal epilepsy, it happens to her only at night like 30 to 35mins in her sleep.

Which dear country? Has the country even been really peaceful? When army were not overthrowing themselves, politicians were looting and oppressing.

It's people who show a modicum of decency and loyalty to 9ja like Zulum they want to get rid of.

They should better carve out a country for Boko. After all Dan Fodio came 200 years ago with violence to overthrow Hausa kingdoms for not being good enough Muslims.

We are shying away from the reality on ground. Doing same thing and failing since 1960 is not loyalty or bravery. But insanity.

The elite long missed the chance to stabilize and develop the country. The masses will just suffer as we sleepwalk to implosion. Yes. it's unpalatable but we cannot pretend anymore. Sticky plaster won't work. Not only in Nigeria. See Ambazonia in Cameroon, Western Togoland in Ghana and others.

Told her that's a different case. That's understandable and moreover tla wise husband would look for a way to help her get a job or start a business. The sisters husband just opened this paga business for her.
She said no way. That I should see her as not doing anything. That her money is hers. How many times does a man buy a shoe in a year? That her own is to take care of such things for herself and I the man should take care of the family. That if she starts adding to the family it will make me become relaxed and lazy.
Moreover I am not asking her to pay major Bills. Just minor things she can contribute to the house on her own volition. I am not apportioning responsibilities to her.

We both work. But she is of the opinion that her money belongs to her and she might decide to help out or not.
