AQ, many thanks, I really appreciate. . . |
@lalaboi MOST INFORMED POSTER BarmsyleAaww, thanks so much lalaboi, I'm elated. |
@iice If you see the way I'm laughing now, you'll think I'm going nuts . . . I'm having a blast too - watching old movies (from TCM) and listening to a lot of songs from my archives (gosh, didn't know I have so many songs on my laptop). |
@Muki Thank you. Reserve am till next year abeg. *U too funny haba* ![]() @iice I didn't know you noticed too o. The guy just continues to 'rap' off-beat Anyway, I've replied him (kindly check). The thread has even been moved to the "Rap Battles" Section. I searched long and hard in the (General) Music Section and had to google it when I didn't find it - only to see another amusing post. Hehehe, hope you're enjoying the season? |
@iice Please don't break my ribs. Tupac V. Nas - enough to cause World War III. . . *yeah right, I ain't killin' myself for this rap game*@Muki Hehehe. I nearly lose one tooth as I dey laff. I nor vess again na haba. If the guy like sef make hin wear sokoto join hin buba *e too dey quiet nowadays* |
iice, Ika & Muki *soul sistas* Just came in here to wish y'all a wonderful year ahead . . . |
Igwe, clean up this excerpts you copied from a website and post your own comments, then I'll reply you ![]() Going through your above post, this is the only part I suspect to be yours: mess character mofo, skillz counts more than whatever, pac ur minigod, admitted after bigie's death that he was pushed after him,and thats the point where he was slayed,ma hero don't have to elaborate cowardily to be accepted,he stresses out how it occured and the need to get the shit off the hood.wordAnd my reply is - who died first; Pac or Biggie? Wait. Don't give me no Conspiracy Theory on Pac's death here, I need a reasonable answer please. Also, don't refer to the track "God Bless The Dead". There are loads of theories surrounding that track, especially the intro where Pac said "Rest in peace to my mothaf***a Biggie Smalls". Word is - that track eulogises another Biggie Smallz, not the one you know so well. Aside that, I got nothing else to say for now. *Ol' boy, I don dey tire for you sef* ![]() |
*Just a quote* In times of danger don't freeze time to be a G - 2pac (Until The End of Time) |
superstan:Dude, I thought my use of the word 'heavily' before 'influenced' was supposed to connote something? Plus I don't think my post gives an express or implied impression that Alabai ain't good or is heading in the wrong direction. Poster asked what we feel about the guy and I simply put up ma analysis. |
I first heard Alabai on Blackface's track, "Hard Life" and what I immediately liked about his style is the clarity of his lines. You can hear him clearly. Also, I first heard this song a couple of months back and I must say it's good. I was like - Hmm . . . dude has really upgraded his style since his appearance on Blackface's track . . . However, it's undeniable that dude was heavily influenced by DMX. Definitely not X's voice. Definitely X's concept and delivery. X's tracks like "Angel" and "Ready To Meet Him" are pointers to this. DMX employed the God/Man Conversation Concept in both tracks (and infact a lot of his older tracks). Permit me to dig a bit deeper here - check out excerpts from "Ready To Meet Him" (I consider this one of hip hop's sickest lines): GOD: Thou shall not steal DMX: But what if he stole from me? GOD: Thou shall not kill DMX: But what if he's tryin' to kill me? Lastly, I ain't a Mode 9 fan. I've always said Mode could do a lot better. But comparing this dude with him is really shittin' on 9. For starters, let's wait for his album. Then maybe, just maybe we can start to compare. . . |
Tosin merry Xmas. . . |
@lalaboi Just deemed it fit to say good job. I think you've taken the first right step - in the right direction. |
Worst thing I've seen here - abuses/insults. I believe we can have intelligent discourses without resort to abuses. Some peops in here use the word 'idiot' like it's someone's name. However, I think one can throw subliminal disses/yabs here and there - that can be entertaining/amusing. Some peops in here are notorious for insults. Peops shouldn't be allowed to vent their frustrations on NL. Off-topic posts as earlier noted are only bad when they get too much. Outright derailment of topics are bad. But a lil' bit of off-topic posts here and there could be interesting/exciting. Otherwise things might get boring/monotonous. Good thing here - Humour (we've got loads of that in here). *B T W, I also can't help but wonder - lalaboi, moderator?* ![]() |
semid4lyfe:You've identified the exact area in which Mode needs to step up his game - Delivery (has something to do with flows, voice, rhythm and such other related elements). He's one of the best lyricists I've come across but his delivery needs to be worked on. One rapper I'll always recommend to any aspiring rapper is Biggie. Even if this dude yawns and whistles on a track, the delivery'll still be hot. The delivery of a message is as important as the message itself. |
This is my Xmas gift to y'all. Click on the following link to listen: http://rapidshare.com/files/176413273/O_Si_Ma_Dara.mp3.html Please endeavour to drop your reviews. Merry Xmas! |
Obie Trice is NOT wack Tosin. The Set Up feat. Nate Dogg is dope. So is 2pac's Hennessy remix feat. Obie Trice. His song in the 8 Mile Soundtrack was dope too. |
Muki, you're right on all except Bubba Sparxx o. The dude may not be all that but he's not wack either. You want to tell me Ugly and Deliverance are not ok tracks? ![]() |
![]() |
Yep. Simultaneously sung with those other lines as AQ stated. |
Just a quick reply: TI is NOT wack Camron is NOT wack Nelly IS wack I don't even listen to most of the others (Poetic) Lyrics ain't the only parameter for judging a rapper's skill. There are such elements as flow, wordplay, voice, etc. All rappers got their style. And, billions of thundering cyclones - whoever mentioned Nas and Busta Rhymes? You've got to be kidding me. . . |
True. I heard it ![]() |

@iice Hehehe. Glad to have you back. |
bgees:Yeah bro, that joint is it. Nas is incredible. |
DMX co-signed. Talib Kweli Black Thought Common Mos' Def |
alisigwe:Dawg, are you somewhere in the woods? You kept rating Nas based on character standards and I showed you that underneath all that "thug life", "f**k the world" and stuff, Pac was a real good brother. Then you start to claim that I'm attributing every quality you drop about Nas to Pac. What are you on? Me dissing Nas? Y'know'hat? Stop this bulls*it. How many times platinum has Pac's Don Killuminati: The 7-day Theory gone? Quit comparing Pac and Nas. Or Biggie and Nas. Nas doesn't even come close. Find sumn better to do. Maybe compare Barrack Obama and Sarah Palin (who's the better freestyler?). Not this bulls*it. Don't make me talk like I don't like/respect Nas. I do. But for you to place him above Biggie or Pac, especially using character parameters; that's drivel. B T W, when did a rapper's skill become measurable by his character? Did you say a university is studying "One Mic"? I'm impressed . Recently, the renowned Harvard University sponsored an academic symposium on 2pac and his works. Speakers included an English Professor from State University of New York, a Professor of Communications from Northeastern University, a Professor of Music from Northeastern University and a Professor of Humanities and African American Studies from University of Pennsylvania (who also wrote a book on 2pac). At the symposium, these professors all praised 2pac, employing words like "intellectual", "brilliant", and "insightful" to describe him and his works. Someone said his death has left a leadership void amongst hip-hop artists. Not long after his death, a course was introduced at the University of California on 2pac's poetry and history. If you need sources for all the above, ask me. There are loads more but let me stop here else we won't stop till the sun goes down. I hope you now know what time it is cos if your argument is all about legacy (be it academic, cultural, etc) or awards, 2pac got 'em in heaps. . . Maybe you never heard of this rule but it goes sumn like this: "When rooting for an artiste, be mindful that you do not place character over skill". Repeat it to yourself 120 times. Do sumn for me homie. Go check a dictionary. "Character" and "Skill" are 2 different words. |
