BusinessRe: South Africa: The Real Giant Of Africa? by Banderas(m): 12:53pm On Jul 23, 2007
Thabo, where in wiki are you getting this from? In your initial post, you said the SA economy was bigger than the economies of all other african countries combined (Actually, you said North, East, West and Central).

This is simply not true.

According to wikipedia, the GDP figures for 2006 are as follows:
South African GDP = 255,155

Egypt = 107,375
Nigeria = 115,350
Algeria = 114,322

That's a total of 337,047 between the three of them.

Do be aware that I'm not saying SA doesn't have a bigger economy, we all know it does. However, it's simply not true that SA has a bigger economy than the rest of Africa combined.

Denex I think you knew what he meant though,

You're kidding right? Your economy is bigger than the rest of Africa combined?? Algeria, Egypt and Nigeria alone more than double South Africa's "giant" economy. Where do you get your stats from?

Jack, let it also be known that if those awards had existed back in those days, Pele too would have won Player of the year multiple times. Pele won the world cup at the even more tender age of 17.
SportsRe: Who Is The Most Overrated Footballer? by Banderas(m): 12:30pm On Jul 20, 2007
Naah, that point is moot. Beckham didn't win the premiership, United won the premiership. Beckham played for united. I insist that Gerrard's performance for liverpool over the last 2-3 years are far beyond Beckhams contributions for man U at his peak. He is the top scorer in the world cup, I accept that,

Ronaldinho is yet to score as many goals as some footballers (Pele, Maradinho). He is a great striker, but far from the best. Before that is was Muller (we all know him I think), followed by Some guy called Fontaine who scored 13 goals in 1958. Pele scored 12, but Pele won MORE world cups than your fav striker did.

Oga, we're not buying this one o.

Jack, on a personal level, beckham has only won the PFA young footballer of the year,
while Gerrard has won an MBE, UEFA most valueable player, PFA player of the year, as well as PFA young footballer of the year.
In this category he has far outperformed Beckham. Can you tell me again why Becks has been better than Stevie G?
SportsRe: Who Is The Most Overrated Footballer? by Banderas(m): 12:02pm On Jul 20, 2007
Jack, I'll also like to know why Ronaldo is the best striker ever in football. If his records speak, they definitely don't speak english because I can't hear them. Please be so kind as to name some of his acheivements, so that we can compare and contrast, and possibly be enlightened, as you already are.
SportsRe: Who Is The Most Overrated Footballer? by Banderas(m): 11:44am On Jul 20, 2007
Well, you see, personally I beleive that Stevie G has been England's best player for some time now, so I can't argue with that last statement,

Quick question Jack,
how is Ronaldo the best player to have played the leather game? What makes him so? I'm afriad I disagree.
SportsRe: Who Is The Most Overrated Footballer? by Banderas(m): 11:28am On Jul 20, 2007
Dayo, dayo, dayo, you've impressed me so far, please don't stop now. Becks dominated in SEVERAL foorball matches for england - a game against germany, and another against greece are good examples. he was also runner up for the FIFA footballer of the year award TWICE.

Regarding the footballer of the year award, this was only started in 1991, and since then only players from 7 or 8 countries have won it - Italy (Quite controversially last year), Brazil, France, Netherlands, Germany, Portugal and Liberia. The lack of an English player there doesn't quite make them such a bad team (Liberia has never even played in the world cup finals)

But I do agree that the Engish media is quite frantic about football, and hence tend to affect the ratings of their national players.

Oh Jackal, Jackal, where is thy maths?

Ole Gunnar:
Premiership -1996-97, 1998-99, 1999-00, 2000-01, 2002-03, 2006-07 (6)
FA cup 1999, 2004 (2)
Carling cup 2006
Champions league 1998
Intercontinental cup 1999
Community Shield 1996, 1997, 2003 (3)
Total: 14

Thierry:
World cup 1998
Uefa nations 2000
Ligue 1 1996
Super cup 1997
Premiership: 2001-02, 2003-04 (2)
FA cup: 2002, 2003, 2005 (3)
Community shield: 2002, 2004 (2)
Total: 11

And no, I didn't say he deserved no mention because he was no longer good, stop misinterpreting my posts. What I said was that He is no longer good enough to dominate the presss as he does.

And why, why why and why would you curse Aderogba (Drogba) by marrying him off to Paris Hilton?

If the numbers don't count, then Blackburn Rovers (1 Premiership title) can be rated with Chelsea, afterall, they have both won the premiership?

Absolute rubbish mate, numbers DO matter.

If Mikel had joined Manchester, he would have started EVERY game last season, unless he got injured. As a result, he would possibly be rated on the level of Gerrard, Essien, Fabregas and Gerrard, and not as a backup player. The lad is far better than the pittance he's getting at Chelski.

I'm still waiting for Roman to get bored of Chelski, just like Al-Fayez got bored of Fulham, then we'll see where true football actually lies.
SportsRe: Who Is The Most Overrated Footballer? by Banderas(m): 10:55am On Jul 20, 2007
Dayo, Becks was an exceptional footballer. Exceptional. In his prime he would have played for ANY soccer team in the world. The world's greats however is an exclusive club, populated by the likes of Zidane, Pele, Maradona, and maybe Ronaldinho (when he's playing well), some dutch players (I don't know which ones), George Best, and maybe Eusebio. As English greats, I actually rate Gazza, Lineker and possibly Shearer a bit higher than Becks, but I have NO doubts that he will definitely make the English all time greats if that list were made today.

Jeje - thanks mate.

SportsRe: Who Is The Most Overrated Footballer? by Banderas(m): 10:44am On Jul 20, 2007
Dear Jackal,
take away your sentiments, and focus on reality, it helps.

Fat Ronaldo was consistently benched, both for brazil and for Real Madrid last year. Why? Because he is NO LONGER a great football player. Beckham is still a good footballer, but he's no longer great, yet he still enjoys far more press time than any other English footballer.

Nobody is saying that David Beckham was never a good footballer, we are simply saying that he's no longer good enough to dominate the news as a footballer.

And Oh yes, Stevie has also saved the English team several times as well.

By the way, if titles are the correct measure of a footballer's abbility, then Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with 14 titles is a better footballer than Thierry Henry with a mere 11. Your logic, my dear friend is sadly flawed.
SportsRe: Who Is The Most Overrated Footballer? by Banderas(m): 10:09am On Jul 20, 2007
David Beckham has not been highly rated as a footballer for a while, he has however always been rated as a celebrity and a cash cow.

Frank Lampard is highly rated, and highly disappointing as a footballer. And who on earth would compare Steven Gerrard and Becks? That is a rather unfair comparism Gerrard is class and quality, Becks is past his prime.

Regarding the press - it all depends on what newspaper you read. Yakubu had two wonderful seasons at portsmouth (he has been a bit of a disappointment at 'Boro however, ) but the british media is all about potential english players (think Theo Walcott), so why are you surprised that Crouchie gets more coverage than the Yak?
SportsRe: FA Premier League or the Spanish 'La Liga'? by Banderas(m): 10:02am On Jul 20, 2007
Actually, the EPL is currently the most watched sporting activity. Manchester United is only threatened by Real Madrid in terms of earnings, no US sporting teams even come close - possibly because football is the most watched sport in the world.

And the EPL is far better funded than any national sporting event in the world - If I'm not mistaken, the top four teams from this season will make as much for being in the premiership as they will make if they get to the semi-finals of the champions league.
Christianity EtcRe: Can You Attend A Church Led By A Woman? by Banderas(m): 8:44am On Jul 20, 2007
be careful, be careful when you interprete the bible - a lot of scripture is in parables see. And there's NO scripture that says Abraham had only one daughters, the bible, like most jewish literature of those times was written to serve a male dominated society, and as such has little inference to women. The only reason why Dinah is mentioned is because of certain circumstances that befell her.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan thread: Forever Reds by Banderas(m): 9:17am On Jul 19, 2007
Actually this has nothing to do with United whatsoever. The fact is that if United buys Tevez and West Ham doesn't get the money, then the premise under which West Ham escaped relegation last season becomes void, and Sheffield United will sue. As a result, West Ham must ensure that all the requirements set by the FA are met, in order to ensure their remaining in the premiership.
Music/RadioRe: Rock Music Is Satanic? by Banderas(m): 5:22pm On Jul 18, 2007
R&B singers have tattoos as well. You do realise that traditionally, many african tribes also have tattoos. There is nothing demonic about rock music. However, if your subconscious has informed you that a certain kind of dressing is demonic, you're bound to go along. I mean, who here has ever seen a demon? How do you know what devils look like??

I think R&B is far more abusive and is quite detrimental to moral values.

CareerRe: How Good Is The University Of Portsmouth by Banderas(m): 4:33pm On Jul 18, 2007
Hello Tonex,
I have two friends three friends who attended Portsmouth. None of them have been able to get top-flight jobs, but they all do work. Electrical Engineering is generally a good course, and depending on the state of the UK job market, you should be able to get work, but I can assure you - portsmouth is not one of the Unis from which you are assured of getting work here in the UK, so if you're hoping to get work and remain in the UK, portsmouth may not be your best bet.
