For example, am starting clinical practicum this fall, the department have posted us to some hospitals. I will network when I get there so by the time am done, the hospitals could retain me for OPT. That is the advantage of CPT

Nice.

You just created your Nairaland account today, thus your profile has no history or credibility. Your first two posts are about getting people to transfer large sums of money on your behalf. I hope you will understand that these your posts will be construed as that of a potential scammer. Sorry. No offense intended.

Thanks, Mr. Mysterious! cheesy
Yeah, he sure is. Salute!
I didn't get funding in TTU, so I plan on attending a semester there and possibly transfer to Michigan Tech, which is actually cheaper. Is this a wise idea?

Hello bro
Are you actually paying tuition for a PhD degree and not fully funded by the school?
That's very rare.
Most PhD and post doc researchers strongly advise against taking up non funded PhDs.
Did they make any promises regarding the coming years or just a flat out " we don't fund"? .

The issue isn't transferring to a cheaper school(still a financial burden) in my opinion, it's the fact that >95% of PhD students in the US are fully funded with stipends. Your school should at least explain why a PhD student isn't funded so you can start from there. Lack of. Funds? Second year funding kickoff? You know.

The whole idea of PhD is that you're actually working for the school to improve their research prowess. You're a researcher more than a student which is why it's expedient that the school pays you to do research that uplifts the name and pedigree of the school.

Perhaps you should draft a mail to your grad coordinator regarding this.
Hope this helps.

Visa approved @ the US Embassy, Abuja yesterday.

Got there around 6:30am packaged like a Jehova's witness with my documents' bag.

@7:30 am, we were checked in and did the biometric stuffs.
Fully composed waiting for my turn to reach, I was suddenly thrown off balance with the way people were denied espcially in window 8 (young white lady). Anyway, I decided to catch some fun with some funny stuffs going on there in order to regain my confidence.
(a woman pretended assumed to understand and speak only Igbo language, but when her visa was approved; she asked the attendant/usher why the VO seized her passport 'in pure English' grin ). .........
...It was certain that I would be interviewed by the 'window 8' lady, I tried using the 'toilet formula' but she was still very busy arguing about 'domestic violence' with one man there (for my mind.."oga no gree oh"wink.
The lady @ window 7 then called..

VO:.... (still smiling due to her conversation with the lady she just approved).
Me:....(confidence loading...99%)
VO: Good morning
Me: Good morning ( passed my documents)
VO: Have you been to US before?
Me: No
VO: Why this school?.
Me: It offers excellent research opportunities which tallies with my research interest.
VO: I can see you are going for masters in chemistry.
Me: Yes ma
VO: Why this program?
Me: I intend to be a lecturer upon the completion of this program,..( she starts nodding, still looking @ her computer...then continued typing).. so this program will equip me with the knowledge and research skills necessary for me to succeed as a lecturer.
VO: ...(glanced through my I-20 )..Wow! You got a very nice funding from the school.
Me: Yes ma
VO: May I ####
Me: Pardon.. (..didn't hear what she said)
VO:....(..comes closer to the mic now).. May I see your funding letter please.
Me: Ok....(passed the letter to her)
VO:.....(she perused it, then started nodding like agama lizard)
Me:...(hmm...Obago!!!)
VO: Your Visa has been approved...(she kept on talking but I didn't hear any other thing apart from when she was showing me the resumption date...)
Me: ..(now nodding like the real agama lizard cheesy , ... trying to make sure she doesn't mistakenly pass me my passport) Thank you!!

Very big thanks to Slimmy (de living saint), Seedord (Mr incredible), Profojah( Honorable Professor/Prophet), Bbdd(Mr 'who send you work' cheesy ) Bigfrancis (Chief chef), Walspring, Darklight, Kennyrony, Imperioux, MsNas, Zee..... abeg una plenty!! God bless you all.

Bbdd, Imperiouxx, OjaP, please, do you have information on Kaplan USMLE program and how to apply? If you have friends who are doing the program kindly let me know so I can contact them for guidance

I know a couple of friends who got in through usmle
Will ask them for concrete info.

However, off hand I know that usmle is divided into three parts.
Step 1, step 2, step 3
Step 1 is available in Ghana but the remaining steps must be written in the US. Step 1 is a clinical knowledge step which is called CK.
Step 2 is clinical skills which is called CS.

Step 2 is the most important as that is what you need to fulfil a requirement for ecf certification. (will confirm the full name)
IMGs or international medical graduates must have this certification before search and matching can be done. It's a long painstaking process this is just what I know.

Also the foreign medical school in which the person who wants to apply for residency is from, must be certified among ecf certified. Also it must have certain credits.

Well, this is the little I know. I'll confirm from my resident friend by weekend.

Sure brother! I dey ready o. But why all of una dey take the cold scare me? cheesy Was at the consulate today for my interview that lasted a minute or so. I doubt if this would be helpful to anyone, but make I sha drop am:

VO: Hello, how are you?

Me: I'm good, you?

"Fine thank you," he answered.

VO: So you are going to UW-Madison on a Fulbright program. That is great.

Me: Yeah.

VO: Been to the US before?
"No," I answered.

VO: Let me give you this, consult it in case you have any difficulty in the U.S - which I doubt because you are on a government sponsored program. Meanwhile, you should collect your visa at the Public Affairs Section on Monday. Have a good day.

Me: You too. Thank you.

NICE!
Congrats man
Fulbright is organized in conjunction with the US Consulate. Your visa was sure from day 1 grin
Congrats once again.

I'm prepping myself for the intense research and teaching assignments ahead.. PhD is not truly not a piece of cake. Gotta brace up.

Once again congrats.
Madison is so cold. Get ready oo.
Cheers bro.

PS. check thegradcafe for housing tips for PhD and other grad students under the city guide "Madison" section

If she had taken time to atleast get schools and write standardized test and apply to school for funding that would help. They all want schools without any standardized test. They will come here and cannot afford to pay the bills. A lot of nairalanders are on the run. It's US so all you need to is to stay away from crime and you won't have issues.

Lmaooo.
My brother anyone that doesn't want to write standardized tests. Na their concern o.
Gone are the days when I'll be advising someone to write GRE and TOEFL. When the time comes they'll know how far.

exactly, I've told her to forget about US.

Imagine.
People looking for easy way out.
If she doesn't have the financial capacity to school in the US is it by force to go to America? To the extent of going to the embassy with fake documents.

I can't pity such people in this life.
They're the ones causing problems for millions of innocent Nigerians who want to get visa and they get judged by the sins of the few.

Hello gurus in the house, pls a friend of mine did TOEFL exam, bt he's score was low, so he ask me that he want to change the score digit at oluwole, he said that the VO at the embassy will just check it, that no verification of it, so I told him, I will get bck to him later, so pls gurus in the house, can he do it? is name, test center, nd id will b there, just that, he want to change the digit of the score, tnks

He shouldn't even try it.
Or else he'll get 10 year ban or life ban.

Toefl is perhaps the easiest exam I've ever written. It's just a test of English. It can't be that bad.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE SHOULD HE GO WITH A FORGED DOCUMENT. IT'S NEVER WORTH IT
